    Gryffindor: Dumbledore
    Hufflepuff: Dumblepuffe
    Ravenclaw: Dumbleclawe
    Slytherin: Dumblerine
    Makes sense...

    With Hermione in Ravenclaw, Harry would've died at his first quidditch match - that would make the books a whole lot shorter....

      I personally believe she is definitely a Gryffindor. Yes she highly values knowledge and intelligence but I feel that her actions tend to be more brave than wise at times. She takes risks rather than the 'smart' decision for the sake of good.

    While JK Rowling is a brilliant author one flaw I found was that she basically put all the "good" characters in gryffindor regardless of their character traits which always bugged me

      I assume that she put Hermione (Ravenclaw), Ron (Hufflepuff), Harry (Slytherin, but I truly believe he’s from griffindor) to represent the houses and if they weren’t all together, I don’t really know if they would be great friends or fight through things together. ( I cant really explain it, so apologies for my terrible explanation ) but yeah.

      @erikalulea3608 5 лет назад +14

      Not only Ravenclaws can be talented and wise, as not all brave are in Gryffindor. There are reasons why for example Hermione was placed in Gryffindor and the same with Dumbledore. Sorry but why do people want to have gryffindor characters when they have own like Ravenclaw has Luna and Slytherin has Snape. Do not get that.

    • @lahlybird895
      @lahlybird895 5 лет назад +5

      yeah and we really need something to boost our credit right now we have maybe three characters going for us one Luna to flitwick and the biggest one we've got is three ollivander come on we need Dumbledore

    • @ratticustheemperor
      @ratticustheemperor 5 лет назад +3

      But you're forgetting what makes a Ravenclaw a Ravenclaw. Or *at least I think.* Ravenclaws like *us* are outside-the-box thinkers, it's what makes Ravenclaws smart. Please. *This is just my opinion.*

    • @erikalulea3608
      @erikalulea3608 5 лет назад

      Well he was not put there, He obviously had more Gryffindor in him because he was placed there. As same as Snape was put in Slytherin even if he was brave but that was not his main trait. I have some Ravenclaw traits but I would choose bravery in the end like Hermione was chosen bravery over books in the end. So the houses are not black and white (if you get my point)

    Housism needs to stop. Hufflepuffs aren't weak or stupid, Slytherins aren't evil, Ravenclaws are way underrated, and Gryffindors aren't the best house. Okay but Dumbledore would be a great Ravenclaw. By the way, I am in no way saying that there is a "best house". They all have good and bad attributes and that's okay.

    • @hopetoombs8886

      Ally housism does need to stop, but also, we need to stop this entire "Gryffindors think they are the best and are all jocks and A*sholes. because while you say that we think that, then the rest of the houses turn around and bash us. Gryffindors are also human, and we aren't all bad.

    remember that Dumbledore was over the age of 100 when he died. With years of experience, he is likely to be wise at that age. However he was 11 when he was first sorted in to griffindor. With over 90 years after that, it's likely that he would've changed. He may have suited griffindor when he was sorted.

      Gwen von Blottnitz actually it does make sense. Merlin’s birth was in 982 and Hogwarts was founded and opened in 993. Which would make Merlin 11 years of age when Hogwarts opened. He was sorted into Slytherin by Salazar himself and was one of the very first Slytherins. Yet he’s wasn’t like the stereotypical Slytherin due to his hatred for the mistreatment of muggles and or muggle born magical peoples.

    "And you wonder why I don't like Draco"
    I mean, the only reason he's a bad person is because he was raised to believe these things. Lucius and Narcissa are terrible people and they influenced him. Draco didn't want to be a death eater, he was forced into wanting to. And he didn't want to kill Dumbledore. In the end he didn't but still. Im actually proud to say that Draco is my favorite character.
    This has nothing to do with my biased opinion because I am in fact a Slytherin.

    Choices matter...except when they don't. Neville asked to be put in Hufflepuff because he didn't think could handle being in Gryffindoor. Hat ignored him.
    And generally agree that there's a lot of characters who probably shouldn't have been in Gryffindoor but were because they needed more scenes with Harry or some sort of connection to him.
    I think Dumbledore is a Ravenclaw. Loyalty isn't a strong suite for a guy who raises and mentors a kid just so he can die at the proper moment. His most defining characteristic is his cleverness and foresight. Loyalty not so much.

    • @tamayako8129
      @tamayako8129 7 лет назад +10

      Maybe the Sorting Hat could sense Neville's true traits. People can believe they're less than what they really are after all! And it was proven that Neville was much braver than he believed. It just needed to be coaxed out of him. So maybe the Hat just decided to put Neville into Gryffindor based on that since Neville's request was based on anxiety and self-criticism and not what he REALLY wanted.

    • @tamayako8129
      @tamayako8129 7 лет назад +5

      Probably because Neville wanted to go into another house because he thought he wasn't worthy of the one he really wanted when that obviously wasn't true, and Harry wanted to avoid Slytherin because he didn't want to be associated with its students and didn't want to be looked at as someone who was doomed to be evil. It's actually pretty fun to think about stuff like this!

    • @Snakie747
      @Snakie747 7 лет назад +1

      Surely if he was able to see all of that in Neville he'd have been able to see that Peter Pettigrew was literally the antithesis of a Gryffindoor and ignored his choice too.
      Sorting hat isn't all that consistent. Which is fine. Nowhere in the lore does it suggest that the sorting hat is infallible, so it's not really a problem for the story.

    • @tamayako8129
      @tamayako8129 7 лет назад +2

      Well, the Sorting Hat DOES call Harry "difficult to place" so maybe that implies that it does make mistakes in who it places where.

    • @Snakie747
      @Snakie747 7 лет назад +1

      Pettigrew was an undeniable mistake. Others are debatable, but that one's not. Placing a character who's defining feature was cowardice and opportunism in the bravery house.

      How did he sacrifice himself ? He was already dying. He was already doomed, it's not like he accepted death at his prime time in order to save the world.
      Dumbledore wasn't the bravest person, at several times he ran from battle if he could (mostly showed in his youth, with his family, sister, Grindelwald...). Even if he did have to face them in the end, he still always tried to run at first.
      As a Gryffindor though, I think he fits the whole "daring and nerve" part as he went to the end of things, he didn't pretend nor changed his opinions. If he believed in something, he went with it until the end.
      But Ravenclaw fits him so much more. Creativity, wisdom, intelligence, wit, originality, individuality, acceptance... ? Come on, they all *perfectly* fits Dumbledore !
      And most of his advices or the things that he valued could be put in either Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, not Gryffindor. He does value courage, but that's one thing. Friends, family, love, loyalty, being who you are, not being afraid of who you are, finding yourself, using your brains, being witty... they're not the values of Gryffindor.

      @@Jackylification Prideful is more of a Griffendore trait. I think he should have been Slytherin, he did everything to achieve his goal, to kill Voldemort, he in a way used Snape's love for Lilly and regret for her death for a spy. Observed everyone to know near exactly what they would do to achieve and or fit into his plan, achieve his goal, and even as a young man with his and Grindelwald's phrase "for the greater good" and many more I don't feel like typing (I'm lazy, deal) Don't get me wrong I love Dumbledore but I believe he makes a perfect Slytherin and would have given them a much better wrap. I dont know about most people but if I was a teacher who saw how tom riddle Jr was treated id at least try to help. And Snape and Harrys abuse was worse. Dumbledore could have prevented everything just by helping a kid who was mistreated. Thats why Albus Dumbledore is my least favorite character from Harry Potter.

    Yes, Dumbledore is smart, but he is also ambitious, cunning, manipulative and he can be cruel. He is a Slytherin in my book! He wanted to prove he is better than his muggle killing father rotting in Azkaban. When he couldn't go on his adventures with his best friend after graduating, he befriended Grindelwald and started looking for the Deathly Hallows. He even sacrificed his sister for it. Not to mention that despite the tragedy he achieve several top jobs in the Medical community, and owns the Elder Wand sfter defeeting Grindelwald. The only reason he never became the minister is becouse he wanted to stay at Hogwarts, to manipulate Harry later on. He also took advantage of Snap as well, using him to further his own cause to defeat Voldemort. Yes, he is smart, but so is Tom Riddle. Dumbledore orchestrated a child's death since he was over a year old.
    "So the boy… the boy must die?" asked Snape quite calmly.
    "And Voldemort himself must do it, Severus. That is essential."
    Another long silence. Then Snape said, "I thought… all these years… that we were protecting him for her. For Lily."
    "We have protected him because it has been essential to teach him, to raise him, to let him try his strength," said Dumbledore, his eyes still tight shut. "Meanwhile, the connection between them grows ever stronger, a parasitic growth: Sometimes I have thought he suspects it himself. If I know him, he will have arranged matters so that when he sets out to meet his death, it will truly mean the end of Voldemort."
    Dumbledore opened his eyes. Snape looked horrified.
    "You have kept him alive so that he can die at the right moment?... You have used me… I have spied for you and lied for you, put myself in mortal danger for you. Everything was supposed to keep Lily Potter's son safe. Now you tell me you have been raising him like a pig for slaughter…" (33.182-185)

      He did sacrifice Ariana, Olive Tree. He didn't want his death, but he abandon her when she needs care, he said itself in the seventh book. I'm sorry, but doesn't care of a disabled child is sacrifice this child ^^'

I wonder why she didn't get put in that house? Did she "ask" the sorting hat to be in Gryffindor? In the first book she was definitely not for sneaking around at night and breaking rules at first, you'd of thought she would've chose to be in Ravenclaw.

      Marcus she says in the philosopher's stone that she sees bravery as more important than intelligence, remember? In the chess room? So she was most likely sorted into Griffindore because she admired it's values more than Ravenclaw's. She was already a genius after all, she was talented. But she most valued bravery so she was sorted onto Griffindore.

  • @jaspr1999
    @jaspr1999 6 лет назад +26

    I love your theory, but do have a couple of reasons Dumbledore was in the correct house.
    His loyalty and bravery, misplaced or not, in regards to his hesitation to fight Grindelwald are textbook Griffindore.
    Like Hermione, he was extremely intelligent, but how they used that intelligence is the difference between Ravenclaw and Griffindore. While both scholarly in their approach to a problem, to figure it out, both had a tendency to act on the information instead of gaining information for information's sake which is a hallmark for a Ravenclaw. While a Ravenclaw is brave they need time to assimilate the information before acting. Either that or they tend to have a kneejerk reaction to sudden situations.
    Seamus, I love your videos and found them through the SuperCarlinBrothers. You have a very original and unique take on things with a delightful energy and point of view. I look forward to your future videos. Have a wonderful one!

    I know I’m gonna get arguments about this, but in my opinion, the popularity of the houses from most to least is 1-Hufflepuff 2-Slytherin 3-Ravenclaw 4-Gryffindor. I know a lot of people assume Gryffindor is the most popular because of the books and movies, but once fans start to go even farther into Harry Potter culture, they usually change the house they want to one of the other three houses. Being a Gryffindor is much harder than most people assume because almost every time u tell a Harry Potter can that ur a Gryffindor, they assume u haven’t taken the quiz and only want to be in Gryffindor because the story is based around people in that house. While there are some Gryffindors like this, there are also many of us who aren’t.

    • @emberalexander7444
      @emberalexander7444 6 лет назад +9

      Right? Like maybe when we were all little kids wanting to be in Gryffindor because Harry was more of a thing but nowadays in the fandom it's like everyone wanted to be different so much that Slytherin and Hufflepuff became the most popular and you can't click on anything HP related without hearing "not all Slytherins are evil" when like, no one has made that claim since like 2005. And like hardly anyone self-identifies as Gryffindor anymore cause it's too mainstream or whatever.

      I was sorted into Gryffindor, and I don't mind. ^^ But I sure as hell didn't wanted to go in there 'because of Harry Potter'. If for anyone, for Fred and George :D But I could as well have wished to be in Ravenclaw to be with Luna if I follow this idea.
      Based on the houses values, I think I could have been Hufflepuff or Gryffindor, but I am so not hardworking at all... :D
      Anyway, I asked my friends who did the test in which house they were sorted : 8 in Gryffindor, 7 in Hufflepuff, 7 in Ravenclaw and 6 in Slytherin (although, I think I know another Slytherin but she didn't answer).

    • @krankarvolund7771

      No, it didn't ^^'
      It's Snape who passed the swrd to harry, he create a copy and keep the real sword and then put it in the water (idea of the stupd Gryffindor of Dumbledore I'm sure XD), yes with the instructions of Dumbledore, but if the House mattered, the sword will had disapeared when Dumbledore dies.
      I think that the sord is a normal sword which can be carried by all wizards... but disapeared and appaeared in the Sorting Hat when a Gryffindor needs it ;)

    Dumbledore doesn't value intelligence a lot. The reason he likes harry is because he´s really brave thats what he values. He shows this when he gives Neville points for being brave and standing up against his friends. I think Gryffindor or Slytherin are the best options. He doesn't really care about loyalty. He doesn't care how smart someone is. But he values bravery and ambition. I think young Dumbledore was a Slytherin and the older Dumbledore was a Gryffindor.

      Jo Moody actually what you value is what gets you into a certain house most of the time, as JK said. Not your main traits but rather the ones you value the most.
      example: Ron, Hermione, Peter, Persie(probs misspelled) Weasley etc....

  • @qwertykins76
    @qwertykins76 7 лет назад +7

    To suggest Dumbledore wasn't a Gryffindor at heart is to grossly miscalculate his entire character.
    Personality traits have little hold over a person's character; they determine WHAT you are, not WHO you are. What makes you really who you are, are your values. Your choices....what YOU personally consider to be important in life, and the principles you stand by.
    You could be the most genius person on the entire planet, and still not be Sorted into Ravenclaw, because, (being as smart as you are,) you recognize there are things far more important and more valuable than intelligence. That's Hermione. That's Dumbledore. That's McGonagall.
    If Dumbledore had been a Ravenclaw, he wouldn't have been there at all. Because it's not very smart to potentially sacrifice your life in order to help people, is it? It's noble. Had he been Ravenclaw, and valued his intelligence and his freedom, more than justice and love, he wouldn't have lead the charge against Voldemort.
    I could elaborate much further, but I would be here for hours. There are many reasons why Albus Dumbledore plainly belongs in Gryffindor House.

    The first point I’d make is that the sorting hat can see things that lie deep within the individual. Such as Peter Pettigrew whom his whole life had been a coward but in his final moments, chose to be brave.
    You are placing Dumbledore based off the old man we know.
    Not Dumbledore the 11 year old boy.
    Who wasn’t naturally wise and made many mistakes and learned much of his wisdom through hardships, trial and error.
    That being said, it’s clear that loyalty was also something he had to learn. He learned this through the tragedy of his sister, Ariana, and then of course his past with Grindelwald. He had to learn the value of loyalty before he could appreciate it or be naturally loyal himself.
    We know in his youth that Dumbledore was a brilliant and talented wizard. This doesn’t make you any particular house. Being brilliant isn’t the same as being wise and a lot of people mix that up. Not saying you did as you obviously described Dumbledore as being wise.
    I think the obvious choice would be Slytherin because he was ambitious, cunning, and achievement oriented in his youth. But even still I agree with the Sorting hats choice to place Dumbledore in Gryffindor because he was brave. Firstly for all his ambition he never sought the power of Minister of Magic although many wanted him to. Back to bravery. He was brave in the face of his own death. But more importantly. We all remember the proud moment when Neville stands up to the dastardly trio whom he considered his friends. Dumbledore rewards him for it. Dumbledore himself did the very same thing. He set his feelings aside and his love for Grindelwald and mustered up all of his Bravery to take on his friend and the one he loved, knowing he would be imprisoned for the remainder of his life, if not executed. Dumbledore through his NATURAL BRAVERY stands up to both a friend and lover. This is what was I believe was the inner trait the sorting hat saw in an 11 year old Dumbledore so long ago.
