  • Olly was Right about Jon Snow | Game of Thrones EXPLAINED
In this video, we'll be discussing Olly's story and how Jon Snow could have become a puppet of the Three-Eyed Raven. Perhaps Olly was right.

If on only Olly had seen a whitewalker for himself then maybe he would have understood jons reasoning

Letting the free folk thru the wall to have less dead to fight in the end was not Jon betraying his vows to the watch. He was protecting the realms of men! Olly couldn’t get over his own personal grief to do what Jon has done in the past which is put the past behind you so you can have a future and give others ( Westoros) more days to live. So I don’t agree with Olly, however, I do sympathize with him, he’s only ten!

Ollie was a 10 year old boy that didn't understand the extreme danger heading their way. Jon had to bring the Wildlings through to keep them from becoming part of the army of the dead. Remember Hardhome?? You do realize that Jon is important in this story, right? It feels like you have something against him. It didn't help that D & D assassinated his character along with Danerys. I hope George fixes this debacle.

@@bonniebaxter2553Danny’s madness may have been too fast, but no good person is burning people alive left and right w dragon fire and crucifying people. She talks about breaking the wheel and not being the usual ruler, but disregarding the means and justifying it for the ends of what she was raised to believe belonged to her just makes her another tyrant. Dany was always going to go bad and I’ve never understood how people who read the books missed the jillion different clues.

@SSquirrel1976 I agree with you. I think Dany was always going to go insane, just not in 6 episodes. It could have been done in a much more poignant way. Had D & D not gotten bored with their toys, so to speak.

Jon didn’t ask to be brought back, as he’s said many times. Maybe he should have hung her, but he did banish her. Ollie on the other hand sided with Thorn and killed the lord commander of the NW. Period….. I do feel bad for the kid, he was a victim of circumstance. Doesn’t forgive what he did. He killed Jon. Mel brought job back to life. From Jon’s perspective, Ollie hangs, and I’m good with it. Hard decision since he’s a kid. But you don’t betray your own kind.

Olly's story is sad and offers much insight. He was no better or worse than Jon or Egret. The problem with all three of them and their perspectives, is that they are all orphans and looking for a family. They didn't realize that killing people does not make a family. They didn't realize that their longing for family, and desperate hope for the love of a family, is exactly why they all suffered.

(TV) Jon needed Melisandre's abilities still. Olly was too young and full of hate to understand the situation was far, far larger than just his family and Jon.

The nights watch forgot why they existed , to watch out for the white walkers , the night king , over time they found a fight against the free folk and lost all belief in the walkers , so Jon actually held his pledge , the real pledge , Ollie was wrong by following weak hateful men , he was filled with hate , rage and easily persuaded to betray.

I think Olly was simply too young and too driven by rage to be able to understand that life is never black and white.
Also, who says Jon didn't forgive Olly? And who says he forgave Melisandre?

    • @d.m.collins1501
      @d.m.collins1501 2 месяца назад +1

If he forgave Olly, he had a funny way of showing it!
That said, I understand what you're saying, I think. You're saying that in his heart, Jon knew Melisandre was a terrible person and didn't forgive her, but he needed her, so he let her live. And in his heart, Jon understood Olly was young and doing the best he knew how, and forgave him internally, but still executed him because he had to.
I think the video's writer means something different: that Jon should have forgiven him in a more legalistic or judicial way: that maybe Jon should have forgiven Olly for the crime of stabbing him to death, and thus not meted out the punishment of execution. Like he did with Melisandre, by forgiving her infanticide in the judicial sense of not punishing her for it.
And who knows, maybe you're both right, and you're both wrong. I suspect that Jon killed Olly not because he wanted to, but because he needed to gear up for a war with the Others as fast as possible, and there was no time to have a potentially homocidal little kid under foot, running around with an oppositional/defiant agenda, maybe even killing Jon again, or putting some arrows through other crucial players such as the Free Folk. And so he felt he HAD to kill Olly. But if he truly understood Olly's position, why not give him some words of encouragement before the end? He could have killed him but still first told him, "I'm sorry, this is not something I want to do but something I HAVE to do--but don't worry, you'll be with your parents very soon. I promise not to let the Night's Watch be destroyed in your absence, by Wildlings or by anything else. We will honor your legacy and still remember you as a hero from our previous battles," etc. etc. ?
In fact, if he TRULY forgave Olly, he could have gotten him out of the way without executing him. Why not simply banish him from the Night's Watch? I'm pretty certain that Olly hadn't yet taken his Night's Watch Vows, so he's under no obligation to serve. And Jon could have sent him south with the very next recruiter going that way, to drop him off at whatever little hamlet seems like it might give him a good life!
My point here is that if Jon truly forgave Olly, he didn't have to kill him--and even if he THOUGHT he had to kill him, he could have been a lot kinder. I think Jon's execution of a child with the same cold, unforgiving brevity of his adult accomplices is rather a black mark on Jon's character. It also suggests that maybe, in his heart of hearts, Jon truly DID forgive Melisandre! After all, her child murders seemed as necessary to her as his own child murders seemed necessary to him.

I still like Ollie. He thought he was doing the right thing. He’d seen what the wildlings could do if they got over the wall. They destroyed his family and then his friend who he confided in still wanted to let them through. You can see why he thought that Jon needed to be stopped.

Olly was not in charge, Jon didn't make his decision lightly. Being only 10 years old and living in the middle of nowhere Olly's views on life were very limited. Also being around a group of small minded bigoted people reinforced his attitude not taking into account as that leader Jon had more to think about than revenge; not realizing that the men of the black committed atrocities on the Free Folk. Olly was wrong and as for his punishment, I am glad I didn't have to make that decision.

He was a child corrupted by ignorant old men who wanted power. They played on his trauma of his parents and all he ever knew getting killed and eaten. I found his character super😢 and was learning from Jon how to be a man. The harsh realization of knowing what’s right/wrong over personal beliefs and desires. Also a huge part of joining the watch…if he had joined and wildings then attacked his family, he would not be allowed to leave castle black. Just as maester Aemon wasn’t able to take the crown, same as Jon not able to join with Stannis and become Lord Jon Stark of Winterfell. If they knew Jon was a Targaryen, not only a Targaryen but heir to the throne Alister would have been licking the cracks between his toes😂

It's a false equivalent. Ollie killed the women he loved. Jon understood and let that go. Ollie plunging a knife in his gut was a personal betrayal. John didn't approve of Mel sacrificing children in the name of her god, that didn't affect him personally. Davos on the other hand, swallowed his moral outrage and went to Mel to save Jon. He got what he wanted and then he wanted her dead.

We know that Brynden Rivers and Bran Stark eventually took on the title of the Three-Eyed Raven, but we don't know if this title is simply the title of the entity that takes control of the body. It's possible that the Three-Eyed Raven is neither Brynden Rivers nor Bran, but an entity that passes from body to body "the Lord of Light," but of course, this is a theory.
