I believe this maybe what my bikes issue is . But is there a way to see if it is not seated properly before pulling on vent tube ? Difficult to get a visual on the base of vent

I had this exact same problem out of no where on my wife's road king went to move it for her one day and saw all the oil did a quick look over thought it was the inner primary seal bought all the gaskets and seals because we were already on the way to the harley dealer got home gave it a better inspection and found the vent tube was not seated properly put it back in place and returned all the parts

Used to work for Harley and we saw this on ABOUT one out of 500 bikes that came off the truck. We added it to our PDI checklist as with Harley anything less that 1% is not a warranty issue. In this case less than 0.20% of all new M8's so not really a "common" problem at all.
In hind sight the dealership that sold the bike should have caught this at their Pre Delivery Inspection (PDI).

I have a 2022 Road Glide Special and have had oil leak problems mostly front rocker case, upper oil line, and air filter. The air filter bolts vibrate loose and slobber blows over the right side of the bike. They need to be tightened at every oil change or sooner. The other leaks were fixed under warranty. To say Harley needs to get on these problems is a giant understatement. Thank you for posting this video.

I am glad that issue was solved before I purchased my new Tri Glide in May of 2021. But, when I took it in for the 1000 mile check, I had noticed that the bottom of the engine and tranny was oil wet. The dealer had a time trying to find the leak as wind was moving it around. They cleaned it up and told be to put some miles on it. I did and when I brought it back, they found the leak. The seal where the shifter goes into the tranny was leaking. Since they had the parts, my bike had to undergo surgery. Removal of the inner primary to make the repair. The tech said after inspecting the old seal, he could not see any damage to it. But the new seal fixed the problem. You never know. I have about seven months left on the warrantee.

Wow! My 2021 Road Glide Limited with 3,200 miles had 2 drops of oil a few days ago and then 2 more drops this morning with oil built up on the two lower bolts of the primary. Flashlight on back side of primary revealed where oil was coming from which was the base of the relief tube. Needle-nose pliers and a gentle tug moved the tube about a half inch or so and stopped! Thank you so much for the information and quick fix. 💪🏼😎🍻

My 22 fat bob had developed a leak under the rear of the primary just before 5k mile change. Got a 3 hole change thinking it was a failing primary drain plug washer. Got the change, and leak still there. Took it to HD for warranty. They said it was the starter o-ring. Continued to leak for an entire week. Took it back to HD. Two senior techs couldn’t figure out where it was. They believe the leak is coming from one of the cylinder heads and will need to take apart the motor. All under warranty as I signed a $0 ticket. Hoping I’m not without my bike for too long, however, I’m glad I have the warranty.

So, instead of taking responsibility for their manufacturing mistake, Harley makes the customer pay for the necessary fix. That shows how much Harley does not care.

Actually it is a free fix at an ethical dealership, the pull through vent tube that is. If you need a vent tube it will cost you because it is less than 1% of all touring M8's produced. So your federal government says it is not a warranty item.

@@JamesMcKeeRottweilerKings The fed only forces recalls when the bean counters tally up the cost of recall versus the cost of damage to the customer. IE: death, injury, etc.. If it is just dollars the fed cares not. However, an ethical company selling products costing thousands upon thousands should stand good for their failing to produce as defect free product as possible. It's all about the 'Benjamins,' in the US.

1%? Everyone I know with the 17-19 M8’s have the transfer problem. Harley-Davidson will add the vent kit after multiple tests show the problem is real!
They haven’t a clue as to why!
I had to use the “Fat Pushrod “ from Greg Williams. I have kinda wondered if the factory transmission vent ( top of transmission cover ) isn’t venting properly.
But the pushrod greatly helped control oil transfer.

120 Point inspections, leaks and checking for them. My 2022 street bob with 79 miles on it had a small puddle the size of a tea spoon by the time I rode the 6 miles home after purchase. Located to the rear cylinder at the base under a lip in the casing to the far left. Camera and light inspection could find no source of the leak. Seems its seeping up somehow through the casing. Warranty issue and no bike almost from the off, thanx harley davidson your quality control sucks poop through a straw.

Also, my engine oil level after the first service was extremely over full, again addressed this my self, I know, tons of individuals would have taken it back to the dealer, I couldn't be bothered, and both was an easy fix.

I have a '17 Road King and haven't seen too much oil transfer but I have seen oil build up inside the throttle body air intake.
I therefore went and invested in a Feuling vented dipstick.
There's less oil in the intake but not 100% eliminated.
Thinking of adding a Trask vented transmission cover for even more venting.

It is a shame that Harley is aware of this problem and won't make it a recall. I have a 2017 Road Glide and had the problem. The Motor Company would not cover the repair under their extended warranty. it would have had to be under the 2 year factory warranty. What a sad statement for them. Thankfully after having purchased 4 Harleys from my dealer, they covered the repair.

Hello, I had a 2019 Road King, I had a warranty, they replaced the incorrect oil pump, and redid the top end, it cost me $ 50 because I had the warranty otherwise it costs $5000... I sold it back to them and bought a new 2022 Road King with the over sized screaming eagle oil pump...your fix doesn't work, it's messy and gets oil all over the bike eventually. It really needs the new oil pump gear.... probably too late for anyone now cause it's almost 2023...good thing I had a friendly Harley Davidson dealership who had.my.back....

I've been trying too figure out if it was on the bigger bikes only, if it was exclusive to 114's, or what the circumstances are around why my bike doesn't have it. I'm coming up with nothing unfortunately. If anybody knows what the deal is, I'd be interested too hear.

Ill check oil level in morning and again when shes hot.. i know some guys over fill the Milwaukee 8it needs an exact amount and its less than previous, but im gonna ask about the warranty part because I bought her in 2020. And that should have been done before resale.. i bought her with only 1000k and stage 1 upgrade was on her… i love this bike and have blacked out so many parts already and custom seat and the accessories i have to change her look and travel all kinds like up to $10 grand already in changes for her … should i be getting this done? I also have a 2021 roadglide special with only 174 k shes brand brand new.. i wont be riding her for a few years still.. im a new rider 3rd season only 13k under my belt.. just been on the back my whole life and well i always loved the bikes . HD installed the vent on my Ultra at 2900 miles. it slowed it down but never fixed it. At 38K miles it moves enough fluid in just a few thousand miles to reduce the friction zone in the clutch pack. Second time back they simply adjusted the fluids and told me it was the Flo-Moto lever causing the reduction in the friction zone, even though it only happens when the trans is low and the primary is over full, SMH. And even though I've been changing out both fluids every 5K, with my 5k service due to wanting to keep the bike for 150K. If i had waited to change out those fluids at 20K, like the manual says, there wouldn't be any room left in the primary, nor any friction zone.
Loss of friction zone is a safety problem, so its in a lemon law case at the moment. If they can't fix it, ask for a buy back!!
