I don't know about this year but last year it was mid November when bonito came in. Schools of them for a couple weeks. Mackerels depending on the weather but typically anywhere between March to November. It's a hit and miss.
@@playdirty714 Yea, thats exactly what I hear too, shell and all. Thanks for the confirmation. If i have enough balls, maybe ill take my kayak out there one day. For now Ima fish near the harbors.
Hey Anthony, looks like it's going to rain this weekend. I won't be going out. My latest video was a shit show. It was supposed to be part of this one as catch and cook. My viewers deserve better than that last video I've uploaded today. Getting cold lately and I'm still sick. I didn't see Tu in your last video at Laguna Niguel Lake. Guess he couldn't make it out. See you soon.
From my experience the summer months are good to get them. Also they like to bite actively early in the morning after sun rise. Try to be at the fishing spots around 6am.
A dock typically used by commercial fisherman in the harbor. You can also launch from Cabrillo Beach and it would be the same distance to the fishing spot. Expect a 35-45 minutes paddle/peddle to the spot.
My dream house is in Huntington Beach Harbor with access to a dock. The cheapest house currently on the market with this is 3.5mil and the property tax is 30K+ a year. Or move out of California.
Hey man, from the area. sick video. Any tips? I normally fish for halibut and spotties with 3-4" keitechs or jigparas. Dont really bait fish but have a fishing kayak and would like to get into it. Do you suspend the bait/ drag it or leave it in one spot. Any tips would be appreciated. Want to get on my first sheepshead.
Yes. I dropped the anchor then drop the shrimp bait on the hook all the way down to the bottom. I also chum. I'll be making another video of catching sheepheads soon with more tips in a couple weeks when season opens for sheepheads. Stay tuned.
From my observations, fishes likes to be in areas that have shades which gives it a sense of security and safety. The sun typically rises from the opposite side of this jetty which the jetty and the kelp provides it with shade. Also, there's sea urchins along the jetty which would provide them with convenience to food at their doorstep. In my next sheepshead video, I hope to come up with a way to tie my Gopro 5 to a fishing main line then dropping it down to provide underwater footage. I'll be heading back out here in a couple weeks when sheepshead season opens in March. The bait I used was shrimp.
Hey brother, I have a JetSki I just made a fishing coder. I’m trying to head out to Long Beach. Just a little scared to go by myself is there anyway I can tagalong?
I don't have any plans to go to Long Beach anytime soon. It's 40+ miles from where I am. I live between Dana Point and Newport Beach so most of my videos going forward will be mostly in Newport or in Dana Point. You are more than welcome to join me at those 2 locations but the problem is I don't know when I'm going fishing again with lobster season here. Most if not all of my friends currently are focused on getting mackerels or bait to catch lobsters. When I do go fishing it's a last minute decision. For example, I went fishing last night at 10pm. Didn't plan it, just decided I was going to go fishing at 9:30pm so left the house by 10pm. It's hard to coordinate with anyone's schedules to go with me. For the next couple of months, it's mostly going to be targeting mackerels and lobsters for me.
@@playdirty714 ok ok I see we’ll whenever you have a group getting together to go fishing and it’s been plan I would love to join. I live in la puente not far from the beaches you go too. Thank you anyways imma just go to Long Beach in 2 weeks and just go solo boys lol just a little scared.
Yes they changed the law this year to limit of 2 per person. This video was from last year and the limit last year was 5 per person. Thanks for watching.
New suscriber. Nice day you had. When are the Mackerel and Bonito biting? Thank you kindly.

What bait do you use for sheepheads, big bro?
Market shrimp with shells intact.

@@MikeN-fr7td The sheephead population has decreased greatly over the years. Good luck to you Mike
Nice catch, sheephead is my favorite ocean fish to eat. I'm assuming that you can only get to that jetty from a boat/kayak?
Yes that's correct. It's about 2 miles from the launch area.
Nicely done Kenny! I usually catch sheep out of Dana & Newport; need to try LBC in the future

Was that the long beach break wall?
About 200 yards away from the break wall. Across the channel.
These sheepshead are different than Florida’s sheepshead
Yes I think the Florida ones have better dental plans. Their teeth looks like more aligned.
Awesome work. What time is good to fish for sheep’s head? Never have luck 😂

Do you go to the inside or outside of the jetty for sheepshead or does it matter?
Sheepheads are on both sides of the jetty. They are also along the entire jetty.

Did you just hook your shrimp to a lead head and dropped down or was it a drop shot?
It was a sliding sinker setup with a sharp wire hook. Size 2 hook.
BTW, very good info for a novice angler.

Were you using shrimp?
Yes shrimp is the way to catch these fishes. Although I have seen people use mussels to catch the East Coast version of sheepheads.
@@playdirty714 hello there. using live shrimp or the dead one? thanks
