Do you know hashirama sage mode is the perfect version of the same sage mode that jugo has, and that sage mode is connected to the chakra tree and and i think hagoromo train hashirama this sage mode and I think hashirama train jugo clan because of they can produce senjustu chakra and hashirama did that to prevent another marada and I think hagoromo only train hashirama to strong else to train next generation's to be strong else for fight again kaguya if kaguya ever comeback from her imprison of being seal away
I guess that makes sense. Naruto Shippuden's tactics basically boiled down to shock and awe using overwhelming samurai/power ranger-Esq techniques of having the more powerful jutsu/spell or piloting a chakra Megazord. Boruto Blue Vortex's techniques are more nuanced with teleporting, dimension-creation, mind-wiping, jutsu-canceling, energy absorption and (of course) the constant game of "who is a cyborg, clone, alien, and/or tree-person?".

I think there’s a difference between power creep and character power progression. Power to creep, in my experience and understanding from video games, is associated more to when the strength and abilities of characters scale out of control to where it violates the power system unreasonably or introduces a less reasonable, usually more highly scaled, power system with the previous more reasonable system. I think Boruto definitely has this.
@MohamedRamadan-qi4hl yes but actually around Juubito was where it began to get bad. With Juubidara and EOS Naruto and EOS Sasuke it becomes ludicrous. Kaguya isn't that bad actually mainly because of how poorly she handles her power, but her fight IQ tones her power down a bit at least. Imho Edo Madara should've lost to the 5 Kage and Juubito should've been the series's power ceiling. He was insanely strong and it needed KSM Naruto and a Jugo-buffed EMS Sasuke to content with him but in the end when he was vulnerable literally EVERYONE helped ripping the tailed beasts out of him. That was insanely strong but "reasonable" for lack of a better term and required no bullshit external amp but "only" literally a combination of all powers Naruto and Sasuke ever had
@@MohamedRamadan-qi4hl I'd say it became pretty prevalent as soon as Pain one tapped Konoha lol, then proceeded to beat Naruto until Hinata interrupted.

Naruto 16 y.o. would no diff Delta by feats without using nukes. Jigen would be wasted by either Sasuke or Naruto. Naruto's SM is somehow trash these days yet Mitsuki can hang out with Ootsutski level characters(they are technically by there but not by feats). Ishiki showed nothing feat wise to put him above any Kage in Naruto yet he is completely dominating both Naruto and Sasuke. Naruto uses some Fox suicidal mode that showed feats below 1 tail Naruto yet we somehow need to believe it's even stronger than Six Paths Sage Mode? Boruto makes no sense power wise. Taijutsu is beyond simple and not creative at all. In addition to this they don't use jutsu(no hand signs), they have unlimited energy with no context(in Naruto there was always some recharge moment). Simple strikes and kicks with powers activated on a whim with no cost or special conditions = worse than most Naruto fights. The only thing where Boruto excels at are belts. They're everywhere along with costumes that make no sense for shinobi to wear.
They varied off from bloodline limits and specialities imo. They flashed it at first then never really dove into the possibilities multiple elemental affinities could do
To be honest if Naruto and Sasuke were the Protagonists of Boruto like how Goku and Vegeta are the Protagonists of Dragon Ball Super i think a lot more people would like Boruto.
We NEED a manga set in the second great shinobi war, this fixes power creep and can flesh out interesting characters! Kawaki is getting knocked out by attacks that can't even destroy a building (latest chapter). While Naruto in the war arc tanked a direct hit from the tentails which was powerful enough to destroy a contintent. Yeah, keep lying to yourself, Kawaki is fodder.
To be clear, power creep in Shippuden is 100% an issue. The war arc really struggled to contain the power levels, and kept having to give people random upgrades so the cool characters could continue to contribute. A great example is Minato having sage mode because they discovered that only sage attacks could work on 10 tails jinchuriki. He caveat's it by suggesting that he isn't very good at sage mode, before instantly entering sage mode and showing that he is in fact a perfect sage. It was bad enough that he was a perfect jinchuriki with the other half of Kurama, so they could do that asspull of teleporting the entire shinobi alliance because Naruto had shared Kurama's chakra with them. It was just all over the place. Kishimoto made Madara too strong so he just made everyone else broken too. It wasn't very exciting for me. Boruto is even worse, but I cba to get into all of that.
With Minato it's weird because he has sage mode but like doesn't use it in any meaningful capacity. As for him saying he isn't good at using sage mode, IIRC he does say that he can't maintain it for long
Yeah I feel like this post used the massive power creep in the War Arc to justify the power creep in Boruto, when we didn't like it then either. Everything after the Pein arc just got completely out of hand. Naruto went from genin level (without kyuubi cloak) to maaaybe a lower Jonin level across his timeskip whereas Boruto cleared Jonin, Kage, 6 paths and hit the pinnacle of what we've seen in the series in the same amount of time. The two power boosts aren't even comparable.
@@GameCyborgCh The justification for Minato not being good at sage mode always read like a continuity issue to me. No one can maintain sage mode while moving around. The point of summoning Fukusaku and Shima is that they gather the sage energy for you while you move. It's as if Kishimoto just forgot about the mechanics of sage mode when he wrote that. If he was an imperfect sage, then it would at least look consistent.
@@young_raymond47 Fukusaku and Shima were summoned to help gather and natural energy while in a fight and help stabilize it cause the person can't just stop in a middle of a life and death fight to enter sage mode safely, maintaining sage made for a prolong time is another issue on its own, but maintaining it in fight or while in motion was never a problem i remember being stated. Also the problem seems to be for a imperfect sage. cause Naruto as a perfect stage didn't have the same problems Jiraiya had.
@@CrisisPhoenix Naruto did have the same problems. Fukusaku attempted to teach him how to bind, it just didn't work because of Kurama. He came up with an alternative solution for replenishing his nature energy. My point is that as long as Minato can enter sage mode, they should hypothetically be able to maintain it indefinitely by binding with Ma and Pa. I don't understand why Minato feels that not being able to stay in the form is a signifier of his incompetence. Once you run out of nature energy, you lose the sage transformation. That's the same for everyone.

I honestly think the tailed beasts acting as basically superweapons with a handful of ninja able to keep up with them and the boss summons would have been a great time to implement a power ceiling. Honestly I think after Pain they should have just gone with mostly side grades as threats.
Power creep isn't inherently a bad thing. It just must feel earned. Power cliffing at the end of Natuto was somewhat problematic with writing future narratives in the same IP, hence why Kishimoto went back to more hand to hand style of combat, but Boruto in TBV has powercliffed the already powercliffed. He comes back stronger than an AWAKENED Code while in base mode and plays with Code like he's a helpless child. A Code who is said to be on par or stronger than Jigen was. The same Jigen who already bodied pre-nerfed Sasuke and Naruto going all out. This feels like the type of powerup that comes at the end of a series, or after a timeskip where the MC has already shown that they could gain great power from training and saw that the powers he earned already couldnt go up against the new looming threat. Boruto was granted the Jougon for still unknown reasons. He is already a prodigy, being chunin level as a new genin. He's gifted the karma through fate and/or happenstance. And suddenly he's so freaking strong they had to add 4 new ostosuki level threats to contend with him. It's not cathartic to see massive powerups if they seemingly come without people actually having to strive for it.
How was Naruto and Sasuke nerfed? even momoshiki who was said to be a greater threat than kaguya who held back against them destroyed a solar system and they still beat him
@@gemini.saga3 bro.... momoshiki ain't jigen... or code... or post timeskip boruto. Ive seen people complain about naruto not improving after his own timeskip... but i legit prefer that over boruto's bullshit. Boruto is just plain undeserving of his powers. Like genuinely...
The power creep at the end of Shippuden was already terrible so the way to fix it was to nerf Naruto and Sasuke, make most ninjutsu useless thanks to the karma seal, repeatedly remind people that each new villain is stronger than the last without showing much of their destructive power, keep giving Boruto new power ups each time he shows up, and make the old and new cast even more irrelevant in the process😂
The very fact that ninjutsu took down every villain so far and most characters still use it proves that ninjutsu is still useful, each new villain isn't stronger than the last, in fact ot tool a while for Momoshiki to be surpassed and Isshiki still hasn't been surpassed. DC isn't the only way to show power and Boruto barely gets powerups💀 the old gen were already useless back in Shippuden and all the new gen have fights against main villains set up

I think the biggest issue of power creep is the idea that they maintained Naruto and Sasuke in the story, power scaled them to Otsuski's, and still wanted to make it out that Boruto is somehow going to go even further beyond. Come the Time Skip and... He has (and hasn't) without justifying it proper. Of course he has the Karma seal, something that just got slapped into Boruto to justify the power creep out of nowhere, he's had 3 years to train, to get beyond Sasuke and Naruto, and now we are seeing everyone forcibly having to get to the same, or relative power level in order to have anyone be of any help. It is trying to tell us that everyone is approaching, or beyond, the strongest in the verse despite the fact the strongest of the past were still alive during this time and only aren't the strongest because they had to be hard nerfed or, quite literally, had their power taken away to have any stakes. Power creep will always exist, but power creep the disrespects, or undoes, what was already established just feels, and is, flat out distasteful.
Boruto did more for karma than Naruto did for Kurama, Boruto is a full Otsutsuki so it makes sense that he surpasses them. Everyone else aren't gonna ever reach that level which is why they have to jump their respective Shinju
@PrimalIncentive Naruto being handed Kurama from the get go has always been a bit of an issue when it came to Naruto being seen as an underdog, despite the fact he realistically had everything going for him (Insane Chakra pool as an Uzumaki, son of Minato, and being a Jinchuriki of the "good" half of the strongest tailed beast) but the claim Boruto is "full Otsutsuki" is complete fan based theory. Of course this could be proven as though but it isn't. Simply stating that Boruto is something out of pure speculation, albeit well informed, is still just speculation. Let alone, even if you wanna say he is a full Otsutsuski he DID NOT do anything to earn his Karma Seal. He was entirely given the victory/kill to earn himself the seal as a "This is Boruto's story" moment when, realistically, Naruto or Sasuke could have claimed it would it not have been for that idiot that refueled their biggest threat. Boruto did not do anything on par with Naruto to achieve the same power and yet he is going to surpass him nonetheless. He isn't even gonna lose his sensei cause it's Sasuke, who has not only been confirmed to still be alive but they sure as shit ain't gonna kill him even by the end when Boruto is suddenly Universe level on par with Shibai
@@loser108108 Boruto being a full Otsutsuki was literally stated in the manga tho💀 he's a full Otsutsuki and he only became it after sacrificing himself for those he loves. Naruto did a lot more than Naruto💀 enough to to DESERVE THIS POWER. Naruto didn't work for most of his power ups(which he got in the span of a 2 day war)while Boruto trained for 2 days, he didn't lose Sasuke but he DIED, got his arm broken, got his back broken, lost an eye and lost his life in the village. He's the same as Naruto except he isn't forcing the underdog thing
@PrimalIncentive I will admit I don't read the manga like a bible, one google search showing that they did in fact state Boruto is full alien now, but it in fact only proves further it was entirely unearned. Boruto sacrificing himself was a noble dead, yes, but it's not like he did it so that he would be revived as full Otsutsuki. So you talking about him earning it is completely negated by the fact this was done outside of his will and, just like Naruto, handed to him despite his inability to choose. Trying to say he earned the karma is also not at all acceptable when it was Naruto who gave him the chakra and power needed for the massive rasengan, Sasuke helped in duping and getting Boruto as close as he did, and the final blow was still just handed to Boruto just cause Naruto was out of commission while being a pin cushion. And the claim that Naruto got his power ups without earning them is completely false. From the get go he is handed everything, yes, but Naruto still put in the effort to train as strong as he is. He learned the Rasengan despite being ill suited to the method needed to do so. He had to face Kurama and win to earn his first stage cloak. He befriend Kurama, and the rest of the tailed beasts, to earn his second stage cloak. And during the empty years he trained even more to get as strong as he is in Boruto. The single power up he got handed, after being born strong, was the same power up Sasuke got, and both lose, during the war from Haguromo to seal away Kaguya and prove he loves Sasuke as more than a friend (Bowchickabowow) So before trying to act like you're the biggest brain of the comment section, why not use that alleged brain power to think before you type. Okay so love the videos but I hate that people think they have to constantly raise the power level to keep the story good. If you're a good writer you can keep the scale down while still writing a good story. Power creep doesn't have to happen but it just happens way too often. The real challenge is keeping it varied because you don't "raise the steaks" by increasing the power that you can get stale. Let me say this for instance, you can keep a story interesting by character development which doesn't require your strongest character being they're unless your developing them but even then you don't necessarily have to raise the power you just have to get creative in how you give him a challenge. Trust me it's possible just isn't easy.
The power limit hasn't been raised tho. It's capped at isshiki and baryon mode naruto Unless boruto surpassed baryon mode naruto, then we have a reasonable power cap.
Completely agree. I mean just look at jjk Gojo Emma’s the strongest until very recently and even then no one else really compares. The young people grow in strength but that’s it it’s not power ceep the characters just get stronger and not all of them.
There’s an interesting compromise that could be made to avoid the power creep concerns: go TWO generations beyond the original cast. Now Boruto’s grandfather Naruto is still Hokage, but is a lot more like the 3rd Hokage- still insanely powerful, but getting old, losing stamina and reflexes and such, finding it harder to recover from a tough battle, etc. He can still swoop in to save the day against the biggest bads, but his health becomes a bigger problem each time he overexerts himself or has to heal from a major injury. New baddies are rising and Naruto can’t deal with them because his own power is waning. The sun is setting on Naruto’s era, his grandson Boruto now has to find his path in this evolving world.
Lmao that’s what they’d have done if what they were after was good storytelling. All these guys want is selling toys, making video games, and making 💰💰💰. An old dying Naruto would not accomplish that.
Just want to point out that Kinshiki isn't as hopeless as this video makes it seem. Don't forget that Kinshiki was keeping up with Sasuke's lightning cloak and during the chunin exams, Shikamaru actually had to save Sasuke with shadow possession.
Avatar the last airbender managed power creep in the best way of any IP I’ve experienced. The full power and scope of Aang’s power was planned from the beginning, so they were able to plan out the exact walk to the “endgame level” so that progression felt organic, there was a hard limit of max power, and it was intended that these progressions of scale never overstayed their welcome. And then that scaling breaks when Korra starts because it’s following the next generation, with power scaling established where Aang’s peak is now closer to the baseline - or at least the “first hurdle” to overcome.
Have yu watched Korra? I'm just saying the scaling was basically untouched in Korra, it was more Additions than a breaking of the Power Scaling. No one is stronger than the avatar in Korra except for other Avatars. it's just that people had WAY MORE HACKS. i.e. Amon's Super Blood bending, Unalok became an ancient spirit basically, Zaheer and his people all had Sub-bendings minus the water bender also Zaheer unlocked Flight and only one other Airbender did that ever, and Kuviera had a Giant Mech that used Spirit Lasers. Aang would have trouble with 2/4 of these people and that's only due to special circumstances.
@@KyngJahhtbh the giant mech and spirit avatars in seasons 2 and 4 do seem like powerscaling to me (especially the spirit avatars) just not as bad. Otherwise I totally agree.
Honestly the problem with Boruto isn’t necessarily power creep but the undermining of OG characters we love. Introducing hax villains and making the og said characters look like they lack any iq. Like why is Naruto’s six paths sage mode abilities never used after the war and why does Sasuke never use any other paths of the rinnegan. Boruto also is given every hax ability in TBV, while Naruto literally wasn’t at sasuke’s level until the Pain arc and showed real development and progression. There is no actual funny/comedic, deep or emotional moments in boruto besides kurama’s death or involving og characters. Also no one likes a character given everything bc the writers love this kid so much, boruto needs to balance both the newer era of characters and also pay homage to the original character we saw develop for 700 episodes . Who cares if it’s a stand alone series, we only care about boruto because of Naruto.
God i know this isnt gonna happen but it would be really really cool if Boruto and the rest of the ninja were just always weaker than the aliens and had to use ninja training and tricks and intelligence to beat them. Showing that being smart and tactical would be alot better than just being able to shoot bombs at them.
@@leonxdz There needs to be a balance between wit and skillz. That is stupid because if shikamaru could beat a God by outsmarting them it would make the God seem week and not intelligent people still clown of hidan and call him the weakest akatsuki and people ignore when strategie was being used in the war arc Strategy doesn't matter this is basic rule in martial arts and fighting if you have no power compreble to the person allowing you to edge out the victory that's why an average Mma fighter beats a world class heavy weight women Mma fighter

I think the problem with Boruto's power creep isn't just the fact that it exists tbh. It's the fact that, in order to satisfy it, older characters were nerfed beyond belief to the point that the 12 year old kids were securing the front lines against the supernatural aliens at a certain point. Although it seems like such a light touch, I think genuinely the power creep of Boruto would've been significantly easier to receive if Momoshiki visited the planet when Boruto and the gang were already 17-18 with jonin-kage+ level power within reasonable expectation instead of literal genin children.
I think my only issue in terms of Power Creep in Boruto is that I feel they went after opponents who could be comparable with an Akatsuki level threat too early on. When they were faced with the evil organization Kara, I felt like they should've dealt more with actual genin and chunin level threats before so quickly jumping to inner circle people. This way people in Naruto and Sasuke's weight class could be focusing on learning about the inner circle and having some stalemate fights with them, while Boruto and his compatriots dealt with the outer circle threats for a while. Eventually leading to Boruto having built up enough experience to start dealing with inner level stuff. I don't mind the ridiculous levels of power because it was already established it was going to go there, I just wish it didn't go there at, what to me felt like, a breakneck speed.
When Naruto came back from his timeskip he wasn’t so above everyone else in the verse power scale wise so there was room to grow for him as well as other characters Boruto is so above everyone else already it feels like he’s reached endgame. Even if there are other challenging opponents for him, he’s so above everyone else that it leaves little room for the supporting cast a chance to shine
Yeah but naruto wasnt constantly beign hunted down by literally everyone if he was he would've done the whole gaining contreole of kurama thing during the timeskip if be did that he would pretty much stomp everyone other than madara obito amd that level charecters
7:25 there is a way around this seen in Naruto, explain that there are limited resources. Kakashi can't beat Haku because he's handling Zabuza, and the same with stopping Gaara in the Sand-Sound invasion. The problem is that this requires very good writing, and an expansive world not focused entirely on the main characters.
The issue is power Creep tied with Worf aspects. Boruto has to turbo charge ahead of where Naruto and Sasuke were to be relevant to these new and worse threats when they did not nearly have the time, respect or WORK put into threats like Orochimaru or Maddara. Naruto and Sasuke are not treated as the Big Goods in scenarios and they keep on writing them to be off the stage so Boruto can do things.
Boruto wasnt just on the run from code, he was on the run from every hidden village that wanted him dead for killing the most beloved kage, under the training of some one who has spent a fair amount of time in the shadows *edit boruto is actually still going to be on the run from every village knowing that omnipotence doesnt just go away
I fundamentally disagree with the idea that you can't hit a reset button without keeping the characters current power levels. They live in a ninja village; characters will constantly be on missions, and the children have to fill in the gaps like they did in Naruto. I also hate the idea of power scaling and lines of logic like "X beat Y, so Y can't beat Z". I think people fail to consider how a characters toolkit interacts with another characters, in relation to their power feats.
Also, what people think someone is doesn't make it so. They assumed that code would be a bad ass becuase of his potential power. Potential and actual are rarely the same.
For characters to become stronger you need stronger threats, greater threats mean widening the power scale, and further widening the power scale means changes in perspective. As long as the concepts of progress and relativity exist, power creep will remain an inherent inevitability to writing. And as it currently stands Kaguya and Hagoromo have already been out-scaled several times. Two beings that at one point to us were not only literal gods, but the absolute peak of power. Theoretically with enough time eventually even Madara will be seen as nothing more than an above-average ninja.
Don't need stronger threats to make "stronger characters". You can challenge your characters in new ways other than physical power, you can challenge them psychologically, mentally, or even socially. No character is flawless, whether the conflict is considered "stronger" or "weaker" from the previous one, it'll still have the potential to pressure the character since it could expose a weakness they have from a result of trauma. You could also utilize fixation and regression, have a fixed power pinnacle at the beginning of the story. Like Sukuna and Gojo from JJK, just treat Naruto and Sasuke like two Gojos. And have the kids deal with weaker threats that avoid high tiers like Naruto and Sasuke. Problem solved.
Boruto didn't even need to start at planetary level. Boruto and his classmates should have started at the same level or at least near og Naruto, eventually going on C-Rank Missions and above but actually completing these mission mostly by themselves. Naruto/Sasuke would be both busy and also shouldn't want to interfere every single time Boruto was in danger, simply to allow him some room for growth. If there was a really serious threat that actually needed their intervention, they could still swoop in to save the day and then go back to work. The result would be a world with Naruto and Sasuke at the peak but still not being able to do everything by themselves. After all, why doesn't Naruto just always have a million Shadow Clones running around fixing every single problem in the world for the rest of his life like the 'paragon' he wants to be?
@@MegaRogash they should have done a time skip when Naruto and sasuke are dead because they are too powerful the power cap should have ended with the sage of the six paths

even still using 11:00 anything after kaguya and the part right before kaguya was introduced as a defense for power creep in bourto isnt that good. Its pretty heavily agree'd upon infact no arguement at all that naruto got bad specifically with kaguya so yknow you saying" well actually the powercreep which made it bad started during the novels" when everyone already agrees the bad power creep started way before that is kinda pointless.

It happened in Avatar the last air bender and Korra, some of the Avatar stuff can be explained with some spiritual lore but the blood bending and even more so the lightning bending was way too easy for everybody...
Think of it like this. You think FIRELORD ZUKO would GATEKEEP lightning bending just because it was a “royal technique”??? HELL NO. He taught his fellow people. Just like toph taking something niche like metal bending and having a whole school for earth benders everywhere. The opposite was done for blood bending, because, at its core, its disturbing. Look at unolaq. And as for air bending and lava bending, flying is still very hard to achieve, and lava is still somewhat rare, with only about 7 people showing their prowess in it (most being avatars with the exception of tophs student and bolin)
But my thing is dont you think spreading the secrets of these texhniques to more people actually balances the playing field and does the opposite by getting rid of ann chance of a power cliff
@@xenothekami888 Lightning bending was not just a royal technique but a master level technique. The usage should go up as the information becomes more readily available but having every random dude at the power plant able to do it is a stretch. Zuko couldnt even do it.
@@OMGSAMCOPSEY Zuko couldn't do it in ATLA due to his inner turmoil. I'm fairly certain that he would eventually be able to do so after all of the comics and he became more comfortable and confident as the Fire Lord. It probably became a lot more common when people found out you could use lightning bending to add to the power grid. It was still rare enough though that it was used for a gangster name (lightning bolt zolt).
@@OMGSAMCOPSEY you summed up my thoughts pretty good, having more people knowing how to do it isn't the issue but it's just the mondane feel to it. Metal bending is way more easier because it's not a life and death thing
I think if you’re watching a long running battle shounen, there’s no reason not to expect there to be power creep present. If the stakes never raise, there’s nothing to stay invested in. To me the trope is a necessary ingredient. Contrast that with an optional trope, like hero has his abilities stripped away then via plot device rapidly trains or inherits even better new ability becomes victorious then old powers return + new final form, that’s more of an ingredient that can ruin the soup if not poured in the exact right amount.
I don't think Power Creep on its own is a problem. It's kinda necessary. I think the problem with Boruto is that the Power Creep is not centered around Boruto and instead is done around Naruto. I think the Power Creep should have been reset for Boruto. We can still have threats that require Naruto and Sasuke to be involved, but it shouldn't have been the main focus. Now that Naruto and Sasuke are out of the picture and there are threats on their power level, Boruto is going to have to be at that power level. That fast of progression doesn't feel good.
It’s the same way with DBS, when they hit godly levels of power, but the blasts and movements remain the same. It’s just certain people saying how they’ve improved or how much stronger they are that we can put it on a scale. Realistically, the Broly movie alone should’ve easily wiped out the planet, and possibly the Galaxy. But we ignore it because the anime’s are fun.
the thing about og naruto is that the first episode talks about the nine tailed fox leveling cities and mountains, this was supposed to be the power ceiling of the universe, but it got broken around the pain arc when he leveled konoha and was shown battling high tailed kyubi cloaks
That was never the power ceiling because it was never stated the nine tails is the strongest thing to ever exist in the naruto world and it Got defeated so by this logic minato is the power ceiling but in most shonen at the time it's all about surpassing your predasessors
Screenwriter here. I've never worked on animation but obviously I'm a fan of anime, but I do work on tv dramas and the samething happens there- only there isn't really a term for it. You see it most often in long format shows that don't have a central plot so you're tasked with constantly upping the anty in order to engage audiences. Think of shows like Pretty Little Liars and Riverdale or a soap opera where the things that are happening don't really make sense but they do out do what happened in the last mid season finale, so it's exciting right! Right? It's really all in how you handle the story, because it can work. A great show that does it well is Scandal. The characters, particularly the main character, does become more powerful (politically etc) throughout the series but it feels natural because it resonates with who she is as a person, what she's working towards, and the story surrounding her. The show never had a central plot to set a power ceiling with, like say Avatar did with the Firelord being the established big bad from day 1 so we knew where the "peak" would be, but the writers were in control of the "power creeping" and it wasn't just being driven by the network ordering more seasons or your budget doubling between this season and the last. With Boruto I would say they did a kinda poor job of handling the power creeping in the beginning but Kishimoto has done a good job of trying to redirect since he's taken over the reigns again. Especially with TBV, we've seen that Kishimoto is setting up ways for multiple characters to keep pace (even tho yes they will be weaker) with Boruto and the power ceiling currently in TBV, which will help things feel more organic. He's also tying their power ups into relevant details of their life that we already know instead of random information we just found out about which helps their power ups feel more intentional. Now the Shinju are kind of a grey area right now, but I think again he's doing a good job of telling their story instead of just showing their power, so it feels less like power creeping and more like the natural progression of a story. Boruto's new rasengan is also a bit of a question mark but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt since we haven't gotten a reference to or explanation about it since it debuted. Same with him knowing flying raijin- if you tell a good story around it, fans will enjoy it. Really power creeping is inevitable, so it all boils down to how you handle it. In the best cases like in Avatar it's clearly planned for and folds naturally into the story without being a distraction. Worst case you end up with two separate unexplained evil bunker torture chamber model houses built by two different mean girls in a hoodie just because it would shock the audience.
I feel like too many anime fans look at strength and fighting prowess as a linear number that just goes straight up and makes you perfect, when it's a wheel of traits that all need to be trained respectively. Someone who is strong against one type of opponent isn't going to be that same kind of strong against every opponent. Boruto is taking the time to remind everyone that these characters are extremely capable and adaptable and will grow in whatever direction is necessary to overcome a diverse set of obstacles, instead of always just pulling out the next bigger shinier gun.
Exactly. People always bring up code being stronger than jigen but willfully ignore that jigen has eons of experience on him. Naruto and Sasuke could probably beat code. Code would not of survive that neck chop from sasuke in the jigen fight.
People need to be reminded time and time again that Naruto isn't Dragon Ball. Having a bigger number (within reason) doesn't automatically make you stronger than someone else.
The writers need to think bigger in terms of plot & imagination. I personally would’ve liked to have seen an aged jaraiya looking Naruto and Sasuke to start the series off.
I think the problem is that we see naruto learning from the beginning like in the land of waves walking up trees exercise and as far as the manga not sure about the anime we never actually see boruto learning anything that's particularly hard for him like him with the rasengan he just picked it up were we see narto struggle for it so we saw narto leave to the time skip knowing he will be struggling but will come back strong where as in boruto just left never really having to struggle to learn anything and just came back o.p. so I feel people are finding it less engaging because they feel there not as involved with his growth as they were with naruto
the term Power Creep is not mainly used in manga, but in all the fictious universes: games (RPGs, TCGs, etc), all kind of literature, etc. Is just a term to describe that the old is surprassed by the new in order to focus the relevancy in the new. Ex1: a old card in TCG (magic, yugioh, pokemon) is made with similar atributes but with a better version of itsefl, making the old card irrelevant in comparison in order to increased the desire of said card to up the sales Ex2: a weak version of a monster in a RGP that later in the game is copied with a different color to show the growth of stats Ex3: new villan that shows up to increase the hurdle for the heros, like dragon ball as you said
The code power creep is wild. Hey just through out a phrase and made him above jigen....then gets curve stomped. Then theres every one else. How can any non charma character even compete
Except it was earned power creep and not unrivaled in the lore. Boruto is at a level above every shinobi except Naruto BM without any feats or amps shown why?? 😂😂 What did he do to gain his power/skill. “Well you see, Boruto has a magic eye, that can do everything it needs to do”

I had this idea before watching JJK but I wanted boruto to max out at like chunin to low jonin type conflicts and focus more on actual stealthy ninja'ing. Since by any reasonable metric end of Shippuden Naruto and Sasuke are essentially 2 Satoru Gojo's with at least 1 having positive ties to the other political figures of the world
I genuinely don’t get the hate for boruto the anime isn’t as bad as everyone said and the manga is better than most people just want Naruto to be like goku and steal the protagonist spot from boruto which is ridiculous Naruto’s character has been fleshed out in full his story ended when he got Sasuke back to the village imo
The anime during its slice of life arcs was fine. It's the manga that it's the issue. It changed names, had a time skip, sent the protagonist into the wilderness, and put the previous protagonists out of commission and we still don't have a single compelling concept, plot line, scheme, or villain. Any other manga would've been canceled years ago, like during the Ao arc, but this is Shueisha's baby so I guess we have to put up with it.
Mfs these days love to nit pick over a story that's in it's beginnings. If they just shut their mouthes and let Kishimoto cook and build up the story, most of the problems they have would be resolved
Honestly, one of the things i thought was weird was how Jigen/Isshiki just zoomed through their "chakra mechs" like the armor of the perfect Susanoo doesnt crack, Kuramas cloak doesnt flicker and distort, he just seemingly P H A S E D straight through. If he done something to make it make sense like: absorbed part of it with the karma, used his dojutsu, or straight it showed him crashing into the chakra and it giving way, showing wild physical strength. But nope, he just flows through like nothing.

i think with things like naruto learning the rasengan really quickly the theme of ninjutsu vs technology is also in big play here. Relatively everyone like kid himiwari being really good at using the byakugan at a young age, i think people are also just able to learn and apply things alot faster. before the timeskip it didnt take much at all for boruto to learn multiple new rasengans like the compression rasengan. even in the movie yes he was given chakura but was still able to handle the intensity of a giant rasengan at such a young age. with technology and the karma it is esentally programmed into you and to match with that we have quick learners. with naruto having the time skip with jiriya getting stronger boruto was almost undoubtedly going to at least scale exponentially being with both sasukae and kashin koji. Sasukae was an expert at combat and was witty, while kashin koji could teach him more like utilizing frogs and sage mode. Boruto being able to utilize all aspects of combat to his advantage plus being a quick thinker and learner makes it easy to believe he could have a power increase this big. And naruto while always taking training seriously had lost nothing yet, while boruto has lost everything which makes dedicating himself to training and bringing back his loved ones even more impactful on his training.
My only thing is, at that point Naruto has just lost his first and best friend, Sasuke. So he would’ve been training as hard as possible it was just underwhelming when we saw him in shippuden. But yeah I pretty much agree
Nah it's copium from those particular fanbases 👁️ & from the OG diehard worshippers I'm pretty sure if Naruto & Sasuke were the protagonists they would have no issues
Power creep is a completely realistic and common sense concept. Technology and weapons devolop exponentially in the real world, so why wouldn’t they in an abnormally long running franchise that’s literally now got Advancement as one of its core themes ? The fights have tended to be contained into taijutsu in any case
Isshiki when he first came to the planet (likely stronger than his Jigen body or his timed rebirth body) being ripped in half, when Kaguya had little to no power even by surprise makes him seem super weak/not durable. Glass cannon excuse works I suppose. But then he should have folded when Naruto in Baryon mode was kicking him around. Its a big ol triangle of whose stronger cause their feats dont make sense.
When you remember Lee and Sasuke cut Madara in half and zetsu punched a hole straight through him. Kaguya in the manga always had her rinnesharigan and most likely most of her abilities the most prevalent being the ash bones and truth seeking orbs. Those ignore durabililuty outght so she hitting you with that while your back is turned would naturally rip you apart regardless of your own durability ir defense
@@FallenPhoenix-ml5mn good points. Big universe to remember everything in. Though @NCHammer23 had another short where he stated Kaguya was the first to have Chakra after eating the fruit. Honestly have to say that I genuinely agree with Nick's overall conclusion. Really, the power rise is at least explained in a way. Granted it still is a power creep but it at least has some meaning behind it. Like Boruto having been hunted down by everyone alive, plus code and having to learn everything from Kashin Koji and Sasuke.
@@goby1764Its not consistent. Kawaki is suppose to be a jigen level threat, guess what happens? Dude gets knockedout by a building level attack 😂😂😂. Bro, Sakura holding back can destroy a building 😂😂😂😂
@@azrael_pendragon why, people just use the excuse it's inconsistent so it shouldn't go to how strong they really are. And if something is not consistent what's the point of the power creep
@NCHammer23 The problem why people have a problem with power scaling in Boruto starts with wording. Power scale can be understood in two ways here; you can either understand it in terms of raw power or in terms od battle effectivness. And people forget, that otsusuki are all about battle effectivness. In this way it is also very easy to understand the "power scale" within the otsusuki. You kind of have to keep in mind that the story of Naruto introduced us with the ninjutsu power scaling system and that no character in that story was so fast and proficient in taijutsu that completely destroyed ninjutsu power scale, because no matter how you look at it ninjutsu takes time to prepare (because of the hand seals) and taijutsu doesn not. Well, except for Might Guy in 8th gate in the end. However, that form did not last long. And the story of Boruto focuses much more on taijutsu power scaling rather than ninjutsu and taijutsu beyond certain level completely obliterates ninjutsu, hence is more battle effective in hand to hand combat. Based on that, you can rank the otsusuki in the following order: 1. Isshiki, because of the taijutsu mastery that is just on another level due to his speed, 2. Momoshiki, due to his lower levels of taijutsu mastery compared to Isshiki, than 3. Kinshiki and 4. base Kaguya. The problem becomes when you introduce power boosts within the otsusuki with chakra fruits or fusion between higher and lower rank otsusuki, which boosts ocular prowess and/or raw power and/or speed. Based on fights seen in Boruto one can say that fused Momoshiki is maybe stronger than Isshiki in termes of raw power, however his speed and therefore level of taijutsu does not come close to Isshiki's, that is why Sasuke and Naruto could still take him on. And lets not forget, that the only ninjutsu (I think) that we have seen from Isshiki, that essentially propelles him to another level and goes perfectly with his speed prowess is his shrinkage technique, for which Naruto and Sasuke do not have the answer for. Based on that, power scaling otsusuki in termes of battle effectivness goes: 1. Isshiki, 2. fused Momoshiki, 3. Kaguya after eating chakra fruit, 4. base Momoshiki, 5. Kinshiki, 6. base Kaguya. However, personally, I think that is impossible to truly rank Kaguya after eating the chankra fruit and gaining rinnesharingan. Bear in mind that we really did not see her proficiency in taijutsu and that all the fights that we actually saw from her is agains her "sons", which begs the question did we really see her going all out in a fight?
"Not nearly as bad as Dragon Ball." He says... Right... Ngl this is exactly the same as Dragon Ball right down to the part where the advent of the second generation experiences little to no new credible threats that don't involve planet conquering aliens. Edit: Or a scientist using their data to artificially create them.
@@PrimalIncentiveI'm more concerned with the impact and pacing the power creep had on the story rather than raw numbers. And technically Shibai is the peak of the verse. We're just dealing with the build up to it still.
Naruto brought peace to the Shinobi world. Undoing that would make all the themes and sacrifices from the 500 chapters of Naruto irrelevant. Despite the very big flaws that the anime has, it's done a great job bringing earthly threats for Boruto and the rest to deal with between Otsutsuki dilemmas in the monthly manga.
I largely agree. My only point of quibbling is the idea that the universe's progression is "no where near Dragon Ball" is incredibly uncharitable and unrealistic when it has resulted in many of the same story beats.
This is why I feel like some stories are just meant to end as they are. Eventually so much time passes, the story changes and its original allure fades. Kishimoto should have wrapped it up after Naruto’s battle/reconciliation with Sasuke and let it be, imo. 😅
There's also quite a bit of power creep on games, both trading cards and video games, that get updates over the years! But also, NCHAMMER VIDEO TIME LESSGOOOOOOOO
I think the issue lies in how kishi originally decided to show power increase. By having bigger and badder forms and jutsu it cemented in us that in order to be at the highest tier of power in this universe you need to have something either big or bad. Now he's scaled it back to "these hands" in a very short amount of time it doesn't sit right with people. To me the shinjuu feel like we're going backwards. The ten tails hasn't been a relevant threat since we found out that they are just chakra snacks for the otsusuki yet now just because it has a brain it's somehow stronger than a high ranked otsutsuki like iishiki is pretty silly to me. Feels like kishi is struggling with boruto tbh
i like to think of it like all the OG naruto/shippuden characters trained their whole lives at basketball - & they could contend with KD & lebron. but then, basketballs were banned and everyone started playing soccer. sure, the OG characters are still athletic - but this is a whole new sport for them - sure, they’re really strong w ninjutsu/genjutsu etc, but it’s a whole new fighting style now w ninjutsu absorption etc. now, the kids who grew up playing soccer their whole lives (boruto gen kids) have to take over ⚽️ 🤝
I guess that makes sense.
Power creeping is usually more used in video games, it's basically when new content us added that make the old one useless and weak in comparison and is usually made just to hype up the new stuff and make it not being overshadowed by the old one
The Ten tails is a lot smaller than the one during the War Arc. Since it's already established that earth has the strongest chakra fruit due to Shibai, it doesn't make sense for the claw grimes copies to be this powerful from the start. They literally dwarf Isshiki who was strong enough to subdue the same Ten Tails to begin with.
Ishiki/jigen not surfacing until now is pretty simple. Ishiki has been looking for a vessel because jigen was incompatible. Prior to Amado there was no way for him to place a karma (because he was too weak). He needed to find a 10 tails He didn't intervene in the 4GNW because he would risk losing his only body. If he moved in on that battle Kaguya could've bodied him. Fast forward 16 years;he has a perfect vessel nearly fully extracted, and a ten tails to siphon for power, and his next body goes missing, it's the only reason he would risk dying. The real question is where did the 10 tails come from? How did he get it? What are the chances the second ten tails is shibi's?

I think there’s a difference between power creep and character power progression. Power to creep, in my experience and understanding from video games, is associated more to when the strength and abilities of characters scale out of control to where it violates the power system unreasonably or introduces a less reasonable, usually more highly scaled, power system with the previous more reasonable system. I think Boruto definitely has this.
Naurto was having power creep around time of kaguya introduction

Or they should have ended the show with madara being the final villain and ended the show there contuing after Shippuden was a huge mistake

End the show or do a time skip like after 200 years Naruto and sasuke well be dead
The very fact that ninjutsu took down every villain so far and most characters still use it proves that ninjutsu is still useful, each new villain isn't stronger than the last, in fact ot tool a while for Momoshiki to be surpassed and Isshiki still hasn't been surpassed.
The single power up he got handed, after being born strong, was the same power up Sasuke got, and both lose, during the war from Haguromo to seal away Kaguya and prove he loves Sasuke as more than a friend (Bowchickabowow)

Manga writers do manga for a reason, story telling isn't their strengths.
The power limit hasn't been raised tho. It's capped at isshiki and baryon mode naruto
Unless boruto surpassed baryon mode naruto, then we have a reasonable power cap.
@SupremeCodyGaming well yes but it is drastically raised for newborn children. I don't believe they need to have Boruto fight Naruto level characters.
Completely agree. I mean just look at jjk Gojo Emma’s the strongest until very recently and even then no one else really compares. The young people grow in strength but that’s it it’s not power ceep the characters just get stronger and not all of them.
@emme12345654321 Boruto is an alien and so i kawaki. No one else in there generation stands to the same level. Two outliers don't make the rule.
Frfr... they could've made Naruto's offspring a woman which could justify them being a civilain and not helping out.

Thats just blatantly not true, Aang is still easily top 3 in the Korra Verse
Plus Korra broke the chain with all of the other Avatar so if there was a 3th one it would be a reset
I think the part of power creep that people don't discuss enough about is how it pushes a lot of characters to the wayside
When Naruto came back from his timeskip he wasn’t so above everyone else in the verse power scale wise so there was room to grow for him as well as other characters
Boruto is so above everyone else already it feels like he’s reached endgame.
I don't think so. Naruto and isshiki are the absolute power cap, everyone else minus mabye the ten tails fall under these two.
Ahhhh yes Kisuke from bleach is the scientist in Boruto😂
Boruto wasnt just on the run from code, he was on the run from every hidden village that wanted him dead for killing the most beloved kage, under the training of some one who has spent a fair amount of time in the shadows
*edit boruto is actually still going to be on the run from every village knowing that omnipotence doesnt just go away
And he’s insanely broken🤞🏾❗️
How Boruto can even take a bath, eat, drink, or even have a peaceful potty time.
I think people fail to consider how a characters toolkit interacts with another characters, in relation to their power feats.
the fact that code who was hyped to be a major antagonist got stomped on by base boruto is a good indication of the absurd powercliffing in the series
Code getting stomped is part of his character writing and he isn't a major villain yet
Also, what people think someone is doesn't make it so. They assumed that code would be a bad ass becuase of his potential power. Potential and actual are rarely the same.
He was never hyped to be a major villian

@@joesecord3066 the power cap should have ended with the sage of the six paths containing after Shippuden was a mistake
No it wasn't your the one who assumed that, then got disappointed when the reality of the story didn't match your expectation.
Naruto Explained has done videos articulating in detail how the current kage from the other villages are undoubtedly stronger than their predecessors
I think there's a thin line between Power Creep and Technique Creep
The only objective and logical comment here man. 💯
Yes 💯

Ex1: a old card in TCG (magic, yugioh, pokemon) is made with similar atributes but with a better version of itsefl, making the old card irrelevant in comparison in order to increased the desire of said card to up the sales
Ex2: a weak version of a monster in a RGP that later in the game is copied with a different color to show the growth of stats
Ex3: new villan that shows up to increase the hurdle for the heros, like dragon ball as you said
Nick: "I don't right a script. I just yip yip.."

The anime during its slice of life arcs was fine. It's the manga that it's the issue. It changed names, had a time skip, sent the protagonist into the wilderness, and put the previous protagonists out of commission and we still don't have a single compelling concept, plot line, scheme, or villain.
Any other manga would've been canceled years ago, like during the Ao arc, but this is Shueisha's baby so I guess we have to put up with it.

i think with things like naruto learning the rasengan really quickly the theme of ninjutsu vs technology is also in big play here.
Yes he is stated to be a super genius prodigy that basically masters everything he tries immediately. Thats not really good writing at all.
My only thing is, at that point Naruto has just lost his first and best friend, Sasuke. So he would’ve been training as hard as possible it was just underwhelming when we saw him in shippuden. But yeah I pretty much agree

This...tastes of cope.
I think this “power creep” was actually done in a dope way. It raised the hype for the series tremendously
Kaguya had the rinnesharingan when she came to earth
To be fair she did catch him off guard
So she would have had to somehow without powers get the drop on Isshiki and be strong enough to rip him in half. Then get the fruit to do the rest of what she did.
Honestly have to say that I genuinely agree with Nick's overall conclusion.
Really, the power rise is at least explained in a way.

@NCHammer23
The problem why people have a problem with power scaling in Boruto starts with wording.
The villains get 10 times stronger every arc in Dragon Ball
It's been 2 years multiple arcs in Boruto and Isshiki is still the peak of the verse

The charzard point doesn’t make sense it’s not water vs lightning. It’s teleporting you to a whole different world you can’t escape from
Ishiki/jigen not surfacing until now is pretty simple.
