Wow! I inherited a 2004 Pontiac Vibe and my trunk falls as soon as I open it. I had no idea how simple this fix is. A quick fix I definitely do. Thank you for posting this.
Thanks for making this video. I must have bought really cheap (low quality) hatch struts. While it holds the hatch up steadily, when you go to shut it, it slams shut. (2003 Pontiac Vibe...I bought it brand new)
Thank you! Mine suddenly failed on my 2006 and my g/f's 2005 are failing slowly. Update: I did mine today. $12 for two off of eBay. It took me about 20 minutes to get them off (had been on there since we both our two Matrix new). 2005 and a 2006. But once I got them off - WOW! New ones made it BRAND NEW! Now I need to order two for the window (which up until the 2007 models, opened separately and is very handy. At first the ones i received looked like they were for the window as one end was curved, but they worked fine. Anyway, Thanks Ken! your video sure helped me out.
Thank you so much for demonstrating this on the Matrix. I'm purchasing some replacements, so I can replace them as soonest possible. My hood is starting to get on my last nerve. When I have heavy groceries, it's a hassle having to assist the hood to elevate.
Thanks for this. I had problems on my 2004 when I bought it and Toyota in Florida said that the "tightness" of them was normal. I moved to Michigan in 2007 and the first winter, the trunk fell on my head because of the cold. I thought it would be so much more complicated to change them so I haven't gotten around to it, but as easy as it seems, I plan to do it when the weather is a little warmer.
This video was very helpful and pretty right on only my new Hatch Lifts came from Turkey ( Monroe Max Lift $16.98 each) and so there was an extra wire, clip, thingy on the top that had to be removed BEFORE the new lift could be installed and then reinserted after the lift was installed. smashed my finger and hit my head numerous times but in the end saved myself at least a hundred bucks. Buying the parts on-line saves you a bundle.
I want you to know I just purchased the supports for my sons Matrix...after watching you do it , like any good mother I am going to make HIM do it, he will be thrilled that he did it, and how easy it is. This could change everything for this snowflake generation! p.s. the lifts came with instructions and none of it was in English!!
The snowflake generation? the generation that you raised? Maybe if you taught your kids how to be competent human beings and how to use the tools given to them instead of putting them down just due to their youth they would be more capable in the world.
Don't assume that both struts are charged. Be sure to use a prop when removing the first strut. Also disengage the strut from the car body then twist it free from the hatch.
Great timing I am just about to do this as well on my 2005, for the trunk lifts. Toyota quoted me different prices for left and right side struts. Were your aftermarket parts also different for the left and right sides too?
I just bought a used 2006 Toyota Matrix with only 118,000 Kms (75,000 miles) in Vancouver area of BC, Canada...Is it common for the struts on the trunk lift & glass window to need replacing at such low mileage ??
Changed mine this evening...thank you Sir!, appreciated your video more than you know! Window supports.

Thanks for the "trainning". Now I can do my Matrix back door fix.
My daughter and I did the glass lift in under 5 minutes. Thanks for the video.
Thank you!! I fixed mine today.
Nice I didn’t realize how easy they are to replace.
Thank you. I'm doing this tomorrow 😊
Done . Definitely need a helper or a big stick to prop up the hatch or it will fall on your had :)
Excellente video changed all 4 in less than 5 mins!!! Thank you!!!!
Great video helped out alot thanks!!
I save some money doing it myself. Thanks to you.
I didn't realize it was so simple I would have done it sooner my car's got about 300,000 mi on it!, just breaking it in!
great video....now here in 2023 Oreilly's wants $32 for same product with 1yr warranty
At those prices just get the OEM ones. Not much of a price difference now.
Worked like a charm, thanks again!

Good job guys! Thk U.😊
Good job, but you didn't give the number of each set of lifters one's for the glass and the lift gate support
Sorry
hey, you should post affiliate links to amazon for parts featured in the video would work. I would buy one right now and you'd get a commission
Thanks, i will have to look into how to do that.
Hatchback support (not the glass) starts at 5:45.
On which Matrix's is the openable rear window a feature? I can't find this info anywhere
we don't have that car anymore but I think it was a 2006
How did u open the rear glass
My model had the glass as able to open with key. not all models have this option.
3:08
Thank you. Other important parts 1. support the hatch 2. Removing the ball joint (2:00), 3. Clean and add grease (3:08) 4. reinstall new Support
