stage 8, being so gud, you use the mastery to help others. you've matured beyond the smug stage 7 and have moved on to stage 8: Wise Sensei. A veritable guru, your sage advice helps other players along their way, such that they can get the most out of the game.

Is Stage 9 when you go on RUclips and discover some people have gitted so gud that they now entertain themselves by beating the game with novelty console peripherals from the 1980s or with controllers made entirely out of sliced potatoes?

And finally stage 10...Japanese Gud. Where some 10yr old kid has done what the stage 9 noobs have done but complete the game in under 1hr in an internet cafe. It's a stereotype I know but god damn so many of those peeps be unreal. Different level of determination.

Because competitive is a totally different beast from noncompetitive; it actually requires a HELL of a lot of foresight and planning, both micro and macro, and mindgaming, along with encyclopedic knowledge of the game's physics and glitches. Can't handle the word "tactic" or see how a certain technique could be useful? Well, for now, you stay worse than bad.

Personally with some games I have a stage in between 4-5 that I like to call “Hitting refresh”. It’s where I get so frustrated that I’m competent but not improving that I quit it and wait for a bit before picking it back up. This amount of time can range from overnight to a month later. When I come back I suddenly can succeed. It’s happened many many times.

You probably already know this but, worth a shot
Dragon Mines: During the first part of the lap on lap 1, you’ll want to slide boost as much as possible. You’ll then come across a small water puddle; which you’ll want to go over it while spamming R1 to keep as much speed as possible. Then you’ll want to continue slide boosting until you reach the hard turning spiral section.
For the spiral section, you’ll want to jump turn with the use of R1 and Square. This will allow you to turn around this section easier and keep some speed during this section. This is the one section that Oxide hits a wall and slows down a bit.
Shortly after this section, there is a boost pad that will create USF. You’ll want to keep this all the way towards the spiral section of the race on the next lap. To do this you’ll need to x3 slide boost just before the boost pad. Then create another x3 slide boost just before the small ramp. Use the created USF here to take the jump over and through the muddy ground to the finish line while continue to combo slide boosting towards the spiral section to keep the USF. It’s very important to keep the USF up until or close to the spiral section as Oxide is very fast during these sections of lap 2 and 3.

My Steak profile showed that it was 100% cleared and everything. A few months later, I checked and it was at 98%. Those jerks added an achievement for completing the campaign on True Nightwing, the hardest difficulty. This was so intensely frustrating to me, that I didn’t even attempt to get this, even though it would probably be easier than getting some of the multiplayer cheevos that I have. Grrrrrr!
