Newfoundland is a beautiful place, but please don't be fooled by your vacation on the island. The people are very nice, for awhile, then their true colors comes spilling over. Very greedy, keep up with the Jones types, who should have been reaping the rewards of economic prosper for generations. The Smallwood's on Roaches Line, (who's Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, gave away one of the most prolific manmade wonders in NF history), know exactly what I'm talking about. It's that very greed by ol Joe, that I find similar with all the people of NF. Even now, in the economic downturn of the oil and gas sector, they complain and whine, about how they can't afford the outlandish purchases they have acquired, and expects government payouts to cover the costs. Reminds me of the 90's, when the NF people stormed parliament hill in St. John's cornering poor ol John Crosbie, demanding to fish waters that they overfished(along with other countries). The government came up with a new type of Welfare called the moratorium, where most fishermen received monthly payments. Most other people would have just trained in a new field. Hibernia, another major project in NF, where thousands of NF people were employed, but only if you were a son of, or related to bosses already on site. The big fraud scandel with workers having to give 100 dollars of their paycheck to the foreman who got them the job, no greed there I know. Workers driving to work with snowmobiles without engines in them in the back of their pickup, only to steal whatever they felt was worthy of stealing. Workers throwing things in the garbage to be taken to the dump, only to take a trip to the dump after work hours with their family to see if someone else hasn't found that item yet. This is the true nature of humans, we are very greedy, narcissistic, overbearing, beings, its just that NFer's are the very best at hiding it. Talk with a person from Labrador and call them a Newfie, see what happens!
I'm an American blessed to live in one of the most beautiful places on gods blue-green earth: Vermont. And yet I've spent more than 5 months in Newfoundland spread out over 4 separate trips. Everything about Newfoundland is authentic, pure, genuine, honest, and non-stop gorgeous. And the people?........second to none in a very big world.

Great video. I was born and raised in St. John's but my parents and I had to move to Ontario because Ontario could provide them with a life that Newfoundland couldn't at the time. One things for certain, you appreciate it more after you've been gone for 30+ years. My dad said it best at his uncles funeral, "Newfoundland is the only place you try to get off of as a child, then spend the rest of your life trying to get back". I hope to go back home to live out my remaining years one day! I'm a proud Newfoundlander! Again, great video.
My husband and I live in Alberta. We went to Newfoundland because of all the beautiful pictures we seen. They didn't do it justice. It was more beautiful than we could've imagined. What's even better are the people. They are so friendly, thoughtful and kind. For example we went in the summer. We went to this one restaurant/bar that had live music. We were at the door and were looking for a table. There wasn't a free table. But a group of people seen us and told us they'd make room at their table so we could sit, eat and listen to the great band they had ! I'll never forget it. So if you want to go to a place that is beautiful, fun, great food/music and fabulous people go to Newfoundland. We are even thinking of moving there.
My Mom is a Canadian citizen and hasn't been back since I was a child, 25 years ago. I have a family of my own now and we are returning together this year. I couldn't be more excited, it's going to be a very special trip.

At 52, I’m happy to say I’ve seen my entire country, every province, territory, and have been to the most eastern, western, southern and northern points of our beautiful nation…. I know on the international stage we don’t get the attention most other countries do, but we really should because this country is absolutely beautiful from coast to coast to coast, not to mention absolutely enormous! My sister and I promised each other we would drive across the entire country, it took us two years, but we did it, and made a lot of stops along the way. It was the best thing we ever did, and I’m actually planning to do it all over again, to try to see some of the places that we missed, because it’s impossible to see it all in one lifetime, just look on the map, this country is gigantic, and greatly underestimated. You wouldn’t believe all the things there are to see and do out there, the biggest problem is cost, it’s cheaper for us to fly to Europe or down south then it is to travel in our own country. They really need to make it cheaper for Canadians to explore their own country, that’s the main reason why most Canadians don’t travel inside our own borders, it’s just too expensive, so my sister and I opted to drive, because we both love driving, and we both love to explore, something you can’t do if you fly. Whatever chance you get, go out there and do it, and explore this beautiful country, we are so overshadowed by our southern neighbors, but there is so much more to this country than you could possibly imagine. I’ve been fortunate enough in my lifetime to travel around the world, open to every major continent on earth, each of it has its own unique beauty, but I have to say that Canada beats them all. Granted, I’m biased, I am a ninth generation Torontonian. With my ancestors came over from England and Ireland, and settled here in Toronto, it wasn’t even called Toronto, it was called York. I’m proud of my family lineage, but even more proud of my country, as I have family scattered all across it from one end the other (my mom has 11 brothers and sisters, each one of them had at least eight children, my mother being the exception, only having myself and my sister… as time went on, family members moved to different parts of the country, and I now have family in literally every province and territory, another reason why I wanted to do this, to meet family members I’ve never met before, having 101st cousins alone). If ever you get a chance, don’t travel outside of Canada, explore your country, I promise you I won’t regret it, and if you want any advice, feel free to respond, I’ll be happy to help if I can! Now get out there and start traveling, now that Covid is coming to a close, we can finally move again!
Yes, Canada is a stunning place, especially for those who love nature. If possible, do both, as the world itself has so much beauty to offer, not to mention the unique cultures around the world. But yeah, in terms of cost, I think it's just our size. Hotels, etc are the same as any first-world country, but it's the distances that make it expensive. Newfoundland is further from Calgary than Mexico City! haha
I’ve heard people from Newfoundland are most friendliest regardless of race I’m permanent resident of Canada living in Alberta, sadly my experience in Alberta is not good I like to visit Atlantic Canada, if they accept me, then I’ll go happily

As a Newfie, I'm so glad you guys actually left St Johns and see the province. Most tourists come and only see St Johns, which mind you, does need to be seen. It's so old and historic. But places like Twillingate and other smaller outport towns are what makes Newfoundland, Newfoundland. Great video keep It up, look forward to watching the rest of your videos.
I’m Irish and married a Newfie girl. Moved here with our 3 kids several years ago and will likely never live in Ireland again. Can’t imagine I’d ever want to leave Newfoundland.
We visited Gros Morne in 2018 and completely fell in love with this beautiful place. Now, almost 3 years later we’ve decided we are moving to Newfoundland in spring 2021. I didn’t think I could be more excited to move to such an incredible place but this video got me even more excited!

Aww thank you so much. My dad is from there too, so we love it on a deeper level. But still, it really is an awesome place to visit. Check out our St. Johns episode too. We have more coming from Viking Trail and Gros Morne. Hope to get back this year but its looking less likely now :(

What a delightful series of videos! I'm going to "go west" with you. In the 1980s, I had the great fortune to go with a friend to eastern Canada, in a small plane. We visited his friends in St. John's, spent 2 days on PEI and a full day/night in Quebec City. It was glorious. My friend calculated that, using the "Grand Circle" route, our flight from San Francisco to St. John's, was almost one-half of the distance to South Africa. Wow! The flight, east/west, OVER the island to/from St. John's, is something I'll never forget. I think of it as "forbidden beauty." The forestation is dense, and wisps of fog work their way inland, from the coast ... eerie, but stunningly beautiful. Flight Control, at Gander, checked in with us at 30-minute intervals, just to be sure that we weren't looking for an emergency landing spot. What a great service. Being on the west coast, I've visited B.C ., often. But, I have no experience with the middle Provinces. Quarantine/Lock Down, has its advantages. I'm going to visit Canada!

@@schingh1973 st perrer and miqlano are both a part of france. I grew up about an hour from the ferry that takes you there, and never been. most Newfoundlanders don't go there. Also never heard of a kitchen party with people playing live music. Newfoundland is beautiful, but not as social as you might think. of course I haven't lived there in 20 years so things may have changed a bit.
@@hasansaleem4983 yes, Titan tours. It was absolutely amazing, our tour guide was fantastic as she was a Newfoundlander. We saw Icebergs, Elk, snow, lovely Canadians & walked on the mantle of the earth.I need to go back when I’ve saved up 😀😀

Born and rasied a true newfie for 20 years. I grew up and still growing up in a small fishing town called pouch cove and i wouldn't choose another place to live. Im proud to say im a newfie and a pouche. This made me cry. great job on this film guys

Yeah, we LOVED Newfoundland. I have family there so we go every few years, but yeah, it's a really cool place. Very unique and distinct. Lots of things to do. Great food, great music!
@@captainleefy the cold or the snow, because we get pounded every year with at least 3 or more heavy snow storms. Last year we broke the record for The most snow. We called it snowmageddon. Even though it was a rough time for most of us(especially when we were right in the middle of the pandemic) we were all pretty much stuck in our houses for days. But we all pulled together like we normally do here, it's almost like we're one big family,and when push comes to shove,we all get together and help each other out.
My best friend/gf of almost 10 years is a newfie. After covid dies down, I plan on flying there to see her (and have been making plans on me even moving there) so I’ve been watching a lot of videos on Canada, specially Newfoundland. I was born in Old Perlican in 1956 and have sailed past Newfoundland on the Empresses of Britain and Canada and the Stefan Batory - the nearest I ever got to going back. My dad was the doctor in Old Perlican and it truly was a very basic place....one phone line, for instance! Must make an effort to return from the UK to see it.

Newfoundland: where you shovel snow to make room for more snow, where you forget what the sun looks like & when the power's out during the winter you some how still end up with an electric bill more than your mortgage. Our home keeps us humble hahah. In all seriousness though, there are some of the most unique, open hearted & solid people are found here. The spirit of Newfoundland is felt by all.

As someone from the USA's mid Atlantic, it blows me away that this is also a part of the east coast. Granted, it's about a 30 hour drive north of me, but it really looks nothing like what I've always considered the "east coast" to be. At a glance the landscapes showcased here remind me of British Columbia or Alaska. It really is hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that Newfoundland shares the same coastline as Florida and New Jersey! 🤣🤣

Gander Newfoundland is a place to someday visit. In 1985 I was with the 101st Airborne on a training mission in the US state of Georgia. A plane full of 101st Airborne soldiers returning from a mission in the Siani crashed shortly after take off just outside of Gander. I'll never forget the impact that the tragedy had on the soldiers, families and communities in the Ft. Campbell, Kentucky area. The people of Gander and the soldiers of the 101st Airborne will always have a historical connection.
Love this series - we did a similar road trip with our family (3 kids ages 12, 10, and 6) at around the same time as you guys, and it was probably our favourite family adventure ever. What you've done here is brilliant. Love it. We love comparing notes on your adventures with ours and reminiscing over memories in these amazing places. My kids want to do it again! Heading to the arctic ocean this summer. Do you guys have a vid for Nunavut? We haven't made it there yet and would love to get ideas.

Yes, my dad is from NEwfoundland and moved to Alberta. Newfoundland is not a place known for jobs. But for tourism, beautiful :)

As a Newfie, I'm so glad you guys actually left St Johns and see the province. Most tourists come and only see St Johns, which mind you, does need to be seen. It's so old and historic. But places like Twillingate and other smaller outport towns are what makes Newfoundland, Newfoundland.

That's awesome! We debate it since we have family there but for constant travellers, it's a bit isolated. What's different compared to Ireland?
We visited Gros Morne in 2018 and completely fell in love with this beautiful place. Now, almost 3 years later we’ve decided we are moving to Newfoundland in spring 2021. I didn’t think I could be more excited to move to such an incredible place but this video got me even more excited!

What a delightful series of videos! I'm going to "go west" with you.
In the 1980s, I had the great fortune to go with a friend to eastern Canada, in a small plane. We visited his friends in St. John's, spent 2 days on PEI and a full day/night in Quebec City. It was glorious. My friend calculated that, using the "Grand Circle" route, our flight from San Francisco to St. John's, was almost one-half of the distance to South Africa. Wow!
The flight, east/west, OVER the island to/from St. John's, is something I'll never forget. I think of it as "forbidden beauty." The forestation is dense, and wisps of fog work their way inland, from the coast ... eerie, but stunningly beautiful.
Flight Control, at Gander, checked in with us at 30-minute intervals, just to be sure that we weren't looking for an emergency landing spot. What a great service.
Being on the west coast, I've visited B.C ., often. But, I have no experience with the middle Provinces.
Quarantine/Lock Down, has its advantages. I'm going to visit Canada!

Malik Haroon St. Pierre is owned by France. If you’re going there from NFLD, you need a passport from what I’ve heard.
@@schingh1973 st perrer and miqlano are both a part of france. I grew up about an hour from the ferry that takes you there, and never been. most Newfoundlanders don't go there. Also never heard of a kitchen party with people playing live music. Newfoundland is beautiful, but not as social as you might think. of course I haven't lived there in 20 years so things may have changed a bit.

@@hasansaleem4983 yes, Titan tours. It was absolutely amazing, our tour guide was fantastic as she was a Newfoundlander. We saw Icebergs, Elk, snow, lovely Canadians & walked on the mantle of the earth.I need to go back when I’ve saved up 😀😀

Last year we broke the record for The most snow.
We called it snowmageddon.
Even though it was a rough time for most of us(especially when we were right in the middle of the pandemic) we were all pretty much stuck in our houses for days.
But we all pulled together like we normally do here, it's almost like we're one big family,and when push comes to shove,we all get together and help each other out.

I was born in Old Perlican in 1956 and have sailed past Newfoundland on the Empresses of Britain and Canada and the Stefan Batory - the nearest I ever got to going back. My dad was the doctor in Old Perlican and it truly was a very basic place....one phone line, for instance! Must make an effort to return from the UK to see it.

St. John’s can get some crazy winds as there’s not much to shelter the Avalon peninsula but Lethbridge Alberta is much windier.

Newfoundland: where you shovel snow to make room for more snow, where you forget what the sun looks like & when the power's out during the winter you some how still end up with an electric bill more than your mortgage. Our home keeps us humble hahah. In all seriousness though, there are some of the most unique, open hearted & solid people are found here. The spirit of Newfoundland is felt by all.

As someone from the USA's mid Atlantic, it blows me away that this is also a part of the east coast. Granted, it's about a 30 hour drive north of me, but it really looks nothing like what I've always considered the "east coast" to be. At a glance the landscapes showcased here remind me of British Columbia or Alaska. It really is hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that Newfoundland shares the same coastline as Florida and New Jersey! 🤣🤣

Gander Newfoundland is a place to someday visit. In 1985 I was with the 101st Airborne on a training mission in the US state of Georgia. A plane full of 101st Airborne soldiers returning from a mission in the Siani crashed shortly after take off just outside of Gander. I'll never forget the impact that the tragedy had on the soldiers, families and communities in the Ft. Campbell, Kentucky area. The people of Gander and the soldiers of the 101st Airborne will always have a historical connection.
And then again during 9/11 with all the planes landing here.
Love this series - we did a similar road trip with our family (3 kids ages 12, 10, and 6) at around the same time as you guys, and it was probably our favourite family adventure ever. What you've done here is brilliant. Love it. We love comparing notes on your adventures with ours and reminiscing over memories in these amazing places. My kids want to do it again! Heading to the arctic ocean this summer. Do you guys have a vid for Nunavut? We haven't made it there yet and would love to get ideas.
