  • Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride says it is up to Humza Yousaf whether he resigns as Scotland's First Minister.
Sources have told Sky News Mr Yousaf could quit as early as Monday after he ditched his alliance with the Greens.
Mr Stride told Sky News the SNP had got themselves in an "extraordinary mess" and the party's "obsession" with independence had led to "very poor outcomes" for voters.

Sturgeon. Up to 2014, things were rock solid under Salmond. Sturgeon took over, entered the culture wars, invited the greens into government, failed to tackle any major issues during her tenure (yes Covid was bad, but what about eduction, health, economy, housing??!)
The SNP was always a big tent party, Independence united the members and it was always a case of "what unites us is stronger than what divides us", by focusing on the gender/culture wars, Sturgeon created that divide in the party. Had she remained focused on key issues, the SNP would still be in a very strong position.
I think the woke arm of the party have the party in a headlock, and I think that is going to drive them out of government. They cannot get out of their own way.

The grand irony of the SNP is that their whole existence revolves around independence, which most Scots don’t even want, and even then the SNP are completely incapable of delivering it. Not only that but they’ve not done the day job either, choosing gender identity over schools, hospitals and governance. So they cannot deliver independence or anything else. They don’t have a majority in parliament and have an unelected incompetent leader. That’s an extraordinary disservice to the Scottish electorate.

Scotland will never reach its potential, or be able to tackle all the problems society has to manage, whilst its chained to a country where 92% of the lawmakers, and other decision makers, are non-Scots.
I mean, look at the state of the UK economy itself. Public services in England are abysmal. The national debt is 105% of its GDP. The trade agreements it has today are a pittance compared to what it gave up in 2016. Many of its school buildings are literally unsafe and at risk of collapse.
If we're to follow the logic of the argument leveraged at Scotland, then England should be governed by a much larger nation's government. Maybe Beijing, Washington or Moscow? Because it can't manage it by itself.
