The standard has gone down somewhat in malaysia. The chicken are smaller and smaller, the taste is somewhat bland. No more bun or fries with the snack/dinner plate and it has been months without coleslaw either. It's just not finger lickin' good anymore.

KFC and Pizza Hut used to be the most popular fast food to go in Malaysia when I was growing up. But both seems so sad and quiet now. Sedih, padahal dulu2 tulah fast food we enjoy with family and friends. Sambut birthday, dapat result, any celebration we would buy them. I remember getting pages of KFC coupon stickers and actually finish redeeming all when I was in primary school. They have a special place in Malaysians heart for the nostalgia. Tapi not worth it to go now, mahal and the quality tak consistent.

KFC in Malaysia is pretty bad too, imo. But it all really depends on the branch because KFC is very inconsistent between branches. I don't know why the standards vary so much when Pizza Huts, McD, etc can keep a pretty consistent standard between franchises.
And the "special menus" are almost always terrible, like changing the standard spicy flavour to the korean one and the pitiful chicken waffle.

I remember long time ago..Its due to the inconsistentcy issue that Marrybrown close lots of their outlet.Nowadays, they reemerged with better SOP.Hense the quality improve vastly.
No point of having 11 herbs & spices if these recipe are often not being followed.KFC is very nostalgic to Malaysian.Even atuk will know KFC..But if u say McDonald, Burger King etc..Some might just go pondering indefinately.

The difference is the oil use. KFC US uses corn oil which is polyunsaturated oil but Malaysia uses palm oil which contain mono unsaturated and saturated oil.
Before US campaign on using polyunsaturated to be use in their fast food, beef tallow which is saturated fat was use.
Polyunsaturated oil is a highly proses oil and very inflammatory to human body. It double carbon bonds are very reactive and can case lot of harms.

in Malaysia, yes as pointed out by many here, the two joints will always be KFC and Pizza Hut, as it is owned by the same company ie the Johor Corp. Overall, I would say, KFC in Malaysia, the quality too has gone down terribly over the past few years. The chicken has gone down two sizes and most of the time, all-time favorites like the cheesy wedges and the french fries would be either sold out or not available. But to be honest, I've tried overseas KFC, Malaysia's KFC by far is the best in terms of its taste and spice in it. I don't know why extra MSG perhaps. FOr the biscuit that u mentioned, here we have the butterscotch bun. Normal roti lah I would say. Glad that you are back here in Malaysia, welcome back man. You can see our beloved club-friendly again in Mamak perhaps. But for ur info, most Mamak now, not all are 24 hours anymore. THis is due to a lack of staff and others. Keep it real. #YNWA.

I believe 'traditional' fast food establishment like KFC, McDonald's and A&W are declining all over the world. The service, the food quality and ambience is no longer what we used to experience 20-30 years ago.
As a malaysian, back in the days, these fast food are considered 'expensive food' and we are so happy and feel blessed to enjoy it coz we can only have it once or twice in a year! Happy expression can be seen in every person's face while they entering the restaurant.
But nowadays,.all those excitement already gone. It slowly replaced by other brands which are more attractive and tastier.

We are currently having chicken crisis in Malaysia so the chicken from almost all restaurants are small.. But the taste for KFC in Malaysia is still good(in almost all branches).. For the biscuits we call it scones(since we are using Bri'ish English).. The KFC here give butterscotch bun instead of scones.. You are correct, we still have the original fried chicken and hot n' spicy fried chicken for the option.. As for the sauces, the famous sauce in Malaysia to have with KFC is the Life's Thai Chilli Sauce.. Other than that we have the normal tomato and chilli sauce, you can ask for add ons for ranch, BBQ and jalapeños cheese sauce.. My fav fries is from KFC, curly fries I love the ones from A&W and for scones we only have the ones from Texas Chicken(which is called Church's Chicken in USA)

as far as i know, malaysia KFC spicy flavoured are customed to us (malaysian) ,as they only serving the original at 1st..spicy comes later as survey on malaysian people tend to like the food with more herb, flavour & spicy, hence the spicy now on their menu.. and most branded food come in malaysia, they assimilated to our taste compare their own original taste back in their origin..you can check out mizi comel newest video on her channel where she commended that even malaysian food there is abit more like a korean taste..proved that food tend to blend with people there (regardless country) once its there (seting up shop i meant) ..
as the flavour goes, since we in asian and the herb, flavour material is easier to get, access in asia compare the west, thats why our food tend to have more rich in term of flavour ,taste and etc..
even the McD spicy chicken now is come back few years back after years of RnD since the the 1st spicy chicken introduced as far as i remembered it..

Even now in Malaysia, KFC is no more no 1 fried chicken, many people more enjoy Texas Chicken (in USA is called Church's Chicken) or local brand that can be found as street food like Muiz.
Or can DIY using flavoured flour that can be found in supermarkets like tepung Bestari or Don Chef etc.
Maybe because people fade up with KFC Malaysia quality become downgraded.
But for myself, KFC Malaysia is the most tasty, the most delicious than other countries KFC which I have been i.e. Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Mauritius etc (I only can taste KFC that offer halal food).

American KFC in the 1970s was pretty good. Their only product was the fried chicken (what we call OR in Malaysia now), coleslaw, mashed potato and bun. Yup, no biscuit although it was a traditional southern fried chicken staple. They probably introduced that later to compete with other fried chicken places that came up in the States. That combination “snack/dinner plate” seems to be standard worldwide, except for the UK where the set is fried chicken and fries (this was in the 90s). This is because Brits are used to chicken & chips (an alternative served at the fish n chip takeaway).
