Just in case anyone is wondering, the reason the Octa-core variant consumes less battery is because it is actually 2 processors in one. The weaker processor (which would probably be in use more often), is even weaker than the quad-core processor in the US variant, and therefore consumes less power.
Can't post the link here at the moment, but the RSS and download links are always posted along with the podcast at Pocketnow. Thanks for asking, and for listening!
Exynos(Octa) - long battery life and better multi-performances Snapdragon(Quad) - more powerful on one app (or single-performance) So... If you want super performances and feelings with games... Snapdragon will be a little bit better... But I, myself would like to choose Octa version. I am so amazed at Samsung Electronics...
Sorry - that's an insert shot from our SGS4 vs SGS3 video, with the 4G version of the '4. 3G speeds are horrible on AT&T compared to LTE in this area (Greater Boston) ^MF
probably the best phone review I've seen I love how you did the real world tests as that is something that people do not do usually in these phone video reviews
at the beginning i saw one galaxy s4 with "Galaxy S4" on the back(while the other phone didn't have it)... where is it later in the Video (both didn't have it)?? wanted to see a visual difference concerning the design. "Galaxy S4"-sign: 0:35 , 1:30 where is it at 0:52 or 5:28?
So pocketnow, i dont really understand the part about the Adreno 320. So is the Adreno 320 on the US Variant , a better graphics chip than the one found on the International version of the S4? Personally in my country im getting the octa-core S4. Im rather excited.
Can you provide an English source for that? The one you linked was in Turkish, and there are obviously going to errors in translation/interpretation if that's your source. English news sites covering the Exynos 5 have clearly stated that only one 'bank' of cores (4 each) can be active at any one time, it's both a hardware limitation AND a limitation of the (current) OS.
It can't. It uses the lower one when there's a low load on the CPU to save power, and the higher one when there's a higher load. Not both at the same time
The comparison video was great!! Thanks for it.. Now, would you recomend me to buy the Quad core version instead the Octa version? Since Octa core version has diferences but are not of great importance, for example, the battery life, the diference between them is little... I hope you yo answer me, and again, the video was GREAT! Sorry for my English, I am from Argentina...
i live in a place where 4g will not be available too soon(maybe next year with high prices), should i get the quad core or the octa core? the less powerfull quad is worth the wait for the 4g? you made the comparision saying that the 4g is cheaper, but that is for us only, in my country the 3g variant is cheaper (not by much, but it is).
Is it just me or are the Samsung logos on the front and back of the international version chrome? Vs. the Sprint version which just seems to have them painted.
I thought you can still choose to put your music, pictures, videos, and whatever other files you might have into the sdcard and access them via the file manager app?
On the Snapdragon version, can't you just turn on power saving to limit cpu power and effectively get the same effect as the octa core model? Then turn it off when you need the extra power.
One question, the S4 i9500 Octa-core version , works on 4G, the people of Samsung say than that version works on 20 different LTE networks , you know some about that ?
@pocketnowvideo : I think you messed up the specs at 1:10 where you wrote 1x1.6GHz Cortex A15 and 1x1.2Ghz Cortex A7 , instead of 4x1.6GhzCortexA15 and 4x1.2Ghz Cortex A7 . Its may sound minow , but it may confuse people may think its similar to Nvidia's 4+1 companion core architecture. Great comparison by the way.
Great video. My hate for Samsung's US Galaxy variants started with the Galaxy S2 when carriers started swapping the SoC to a then inferior snapdragon processor from exynos. Same thing with S3, though I opted for the quad core version, I dearly missed LTE. This time around, I feel confident enough to get the att's Galaxy S4. Remember folks, if you don't like att bloatware
Hi, what happen if You test snapdragon 600 working on LTE and exynos 5 octa working on HSPA+ at the dame time? Whats up with battery charge on snapdragon 600 and benchmarks etc? Thankssss
very good video. I like to see more videos of the reviewer, but the next time please turn the background music down or low, we are not watching a movie, it's a professional educational video. keep up the good job. thanks
The SoC or System-on-Chip is octacore in that it has 8 CPU cores (as well as allot of other stuff), but as you know that's two Quad Core CPU's and only one can be used at a time. The problem is people keep referring to the CPU as octacore which is wrong, they did in this review and many others which just fuels the confusion for some users.
Great vid.. Thanks. Disappointing to see the lag on this new S4. Like you say it may just be the Samsung stuff in the background pulling it down some.. Great screen though and good to see they've kept the phone about the same size. Worth upgrading half way through my S3 contract? Probably not..
How well does the Gorilla Glass 3 screen hold up? Do you feel the need to put a screen protector on the phone? Thanks and great video
I don't like saying "octa-Core" I love saying, yeah my phone has "dual quad core" lolz
You good? It’s been 7years lol
Just in case anyone is wondering, the reason the Octa-core variant consumes less battery is because it is actually 2 processors in one. The weaker processor (which would probably be in use more often), is even weaker than the quad-core processor in the US variant, and therefore consumes less power.
That's not true. The Exynos 5 Octa does indeed support all 20 LTE bands. The GT-I9500 does not, however.

Pretty succinct explanation of the long version, which we offer at 1:08.
Sorry - that's an insert shot from our SGS4 vs SGS3 video, with the 4G version of the '4. 3G speeds are horrible on AT&T compared to LTE in this area (Greater Boston) ^MF
Thanks for watching! All game names are stated in the VO. Can't recall them all now; too late here in the US. :) ^MF
U should do a hard core gaming review on both devices
probably the best phone review I've seen I love how you did the real world tests as that is something that people do not do usually in these phone video reviews
at the beginning i saw one galaxy s4 with "Galaxy S4" on the back(while the other phone didn't have it)... where is it later in the Video (both didn't have it)?? wanted to see a visual difference concerning the design.
"Galaxy S4"-sign: 0:35 , 1:30
where is it at 0:52 or 5:28?
5:36 Bluetooth is enabled on the left one, but not the right one.. probably made a difference?
Video just went live. As the big yellow box says, quality will improve once processing is complete. ^MF
So pocketnow, i dont really understand the part about the Adreno 320.
So is the Adreno 320 on the US Variant , a better graphics chip than the one found on the International version of the S4?
Personally in my country im getting the octa-core S4. Im rather excited.
I am from Ukraine and i don't understand nothing. Which of these two smartphones will cope better in games? It will be smoother

Nice to see the improvement in quality from PocketNow!
Nice video, keep it up!
Hey is there a price different between the 2 models at Fortress or Broadway?
It can't. It uses the lower one when there's a low load on the CPU to save power, and the higher one when there's a higher load.
Not both at the same time
Where did you buy the octa core? Couldn't find it on amazon so far
I remember using the Galaxy S4 .. now I am watching this video with my Galaxy S21 Ultra !! It is amazing how phone changed !! 👍
If I got a tablet to play game but some big game lag does it have to do with the Ram or quad core ?
What is the price of both the phones...also can you please tell whether i can use LTE version by unlocking...
so i have a question, you say it is the same on both devices on gaming? which one is slighter better for gaming or is it the same?
Nice video. What is the name of the game you were testing?
Greetings
Good review I have the GS4 on Sprint and wanted to know if my choice not to do the Octa was a good one. You definitely confirmed my decision.
@pocketnowvideo the i9505 lagged a bit in user interface compared to i9500?
So the i9500 is a little bit faster? What advantage does the i9505 have?
Also, is the GT-I9500/Octa-Core available to buy in the UK yet, is just that LTE isn't used that massively yet, except for EE/T-Mobile.
Which one do you get in Sweden?
i live in a place where 4g will not be available too soon(maybe next year with high prices), should i get the quad core or the octa core?
the less powerfull quad is worth the wait for the 4g?
you made the comparision saying that the 4g is cheaper, but that is for us only, in my country the 3g variant is cheaper (not by much, but it is).
Could be a market- or browser-specific feature. Sorry about that. ^MF
Is it just me or are the Samsung logos on the front and back of the international version chrome? Vs. the Sprint version which just seems to have them painted.
Sound/phone call quality is the same?
Love you guys. Thanks for all the great info you put together for your viewers. Really helpful stuff.
so is the i9506 better ? and does it have kitkat ?
one had bluetooth on in the battery test.or it was just a representation?
So the i9500 doesn't record Video with 1080p with 60fps? I thought that was one of the futures for the OctaCore version!
is there any overheating issues with the octa core variant which u tested?
Was that video sample of Somerville or Haverhill?
What is the name of the games you played?
Excellent review, best I have come across. Keep up the good work!
Wait a minute.. so the t mobile version is the octa core version? That's the I9500 right? I wasn't paying close attention sorry
but there will be upgrades of CPU, GPU, camera, and battery for the next new phone right?
So which one is better, octa core or quad core?
what games were you playing (all of them)
What is the name of the game with watershooteres?
not everything was the same for battery life. You left the s view cover on for the quad core. doesn't it drain battery for it to sense the cover?
also does the international version has the "Galaxy S4" on its battery cover like the U.S. version??
I thought you can still choose to put your music, pictures, videos, and whatever other files you might have into the sdcard and access them via the file manager app?
Which part of EU doesn't use LTE? And what is this faster network than LTE?
Hi, recently I knew that the American S4 has two types, with SIM chip, and with out SIM chip.
What is the different between them?
in India , which model is available ? octa or quad?
Is the octa core the GT-I9500 or GT-I9500x?
this is the best video of the difference between the snapdragon and octa core. well done!!! you it it so easy for me to understand.
so whats version of galaxy s4 we get in uk-please let me know
On the Snapdragon version, can't you just turn on power saving to limit cpu power and effectively get the same effect as the octa core model? Then turn it off when you need the extra power.
One question, the S4 i9500 Octa-core version , works on 4G, the people of Samsung say than that version works on 20 different LTE networks , you know some about that ?
Does the International version suffer from overheating after a long period of time?
Finally , a video i was waiting for a long time :) thanks !
Sso whats better? I9500 or i9505?
I am confuse, wich is better for game and if they are the same display and resolution?
Is it worth ot changing to lte version of galaxy s4?
what is that custom kernel called? I mean what is its name ?
Does it have the same shape?
What's the name of the game at 6:20?
@pocketnowvideo : I think you messed up the specs at 1:10 where you wrote 1x1.6GHz Cortex A15 and 1x1.2Ghz Cortex A7 , instead of 4x1.6GhzCortexA15 and 4x1.2Ghz Cortex A7 . what games they played here?
the transparent notification bar is a mod or it's stock?

how is best, octa or quad core? (for play games and speed?
Thank you this is the comparison that I needed to make my decision. So now I can get my AT&T version.
What we got 4g/LTE on the i9505 here in Norway?
If I'm not wrong, the octa core support LTE band in South Korea but not in other areas.
Which one produces more heat?
what is the name of the game in 4:36? pls answer..
And what does the gt i 9505 sport?
where can I buy the international version unlocked in US?
Hi, what happen if You test snapdragon 600 working on LTE and exynos 5 octa working on HSPA+ at the dame time? Whats up with battery charge on snapdragon 600 and benchmarks etc? Thankssss
What is the name of the flight simulator? I checked for Sky Defenders and that is a different game.
Which phone should I get??? HTC ONE or Samsung Galaxy S4
very good video. I like to see more videos of the reviewer, but the next time please turn the background music down or low, we are not watching a movie, it's a professional educational video. keep up the good job. thanks
Name of the Game at 4:33 - 4:50 ?
Awesome I was hoping you guys were going to do a video on this thanks

What is the game of planes? At the 8:02 please tell me!!!!!!!!!!!
Great vid.. Thanks. Disappointing to see the lag on this new S4. Like you say it may just be the Samsung stuff in the background pulling it down some.. Great screen though and good to see they've kept the phone about the same size. Worth upgrading half way through my S3 contract? Probably not..
which one is this best to have a big cpu or a lot core???...^_^
Doesn't it already? Also, any app measuring the performance would have to work on 8 cores.
Which color is this?
just curious, just wanna know how to differentiate the s4 quad-core n the s4 octa-core??
Are these physical cores?
the name of the wallpaper?!
which is better for high intensity gaming??
which one is better for gaming?
Though I already knew about processing times, I don't see the "Big Yellow Box" to which you referred, which may be the cause of this confusing...
