    Daj ogenj means Give fire. The song is about freedom from material possessions and reliance on your spirituality. It's been written in a Croatian dialect which most Croats don't understand so we also need subtitles. 😂

    The band Ogenj is a rock-punk-folk band. This song is a mix of punk and ethno. They sing in one of the three Croatian dialects. This dialect is spoken in northwestern Croatia and Gorski Kotar. They are completely autochthonous. The details on the clothes, the type of horses that pull the carriage and the sound of the folk instrument you hear reveal the parts of Croatia where they come from. They are currently favorites with Marko Bošnjak. Interesting music, interesting words. We need linguists for a literal translation into English because it is a dialect.

      The better word would be a "supradialect"

    Who wouldn't want to have you now
    Sitting here by the fire
    Who wouldn't want to have you now
    By the fire, now warming yourself.
    If you want, if you can,
    Go forward, you have even more
    You know how to help yourself
    Burn out - you need
    All the treasures of the world, they're worth nothing to you
    Everything they give you is empty.
    There's plenty of strength in you
    Let go of your worries, shine now!
    Be good! (whispering chorus)
    I'll go through the fire
    And hell isn't
    The soul is light
    It laughs cleanly.
    Nothing weighs me down
    Only my body is even stronger
    Light up, every deed of mine shines!
    Go in peace! (whispering chorus)
    Give me fire, give me fire...

      The song is in Croatian. The dialect in which the group sings is spoken in the northwestern and northern parts of Croatia in several versions.

      Daj ogenj is an ambiguous expression (since it's not "daj mi ogenj"). It could mean Give me fire, but it can also be translated as Give fire (to others). IMHO it changes the message of the song greatly, it would be interesting to hear the author's intention.
      In the first case, it can be understood as asking for a fire to go through it and reach this light catharsis.
      If the second is true, the message could be about sharing one's fire (warmth and passion) with others.

      @@nelan3334 personally, I think from the context of the Croatian language and the ethnology of the dialect in which the group sings. That the text of the song refers to something like a "phoenix bird" message, that is, in order for a person to succeed, he has to fight for a place next to the fire, which warms you, and yes, it enters through you "burn all the bad things", and you rise as a new person, But you wrote it yourself, the author of the song could most accurately explain what message the song has in it.

    Croatian Stive N Seagulls? This song is in slang. It's a part of Croatia (Zagorje) northwest of Zagreb. Only they understand that slang. Other Croats need subtitles. Visually, Swedes will know what I'm talking about, The difference in speech is like between the Västra Götaland region and Skåne.

    • @anaangelacuric
      @anaangelacuric День назад +6

      It is not a slang ! For Gods sake ! It is a dialect ! And they are from Podravina not Zagorje !

    • @zorankrstanovic5651
      @zorankrstanovic5651 День назад +2

      @@anaangelacuric Yes, you're right, the dialect is pronounced correctly. I apologize for that mistake. Zagorje dialect, Podravina dialect, Međimurje dialect, the rest of us still need subtitles. That there are differences in those Kajkavian dialects. I still think that the Norwegians understood what I wanted to say. Once again, forgive me for the incorrect expression. Then, while I was writing this, the English word "slang" simply came to mind. Forgive me again. And since I live in Sweden and know nothing about this band, the first time I heard about them, I automatically placed them in Zagorje. I know that it feels like a slap in the face to you Podravina people, so I apologize for this. I can say that the band is great and I immediately listened to everything that was available on RUclips. Some of the songs immediately go on the playlist. And this group is my favorite for now.
