Thank you for sharing a detailed video. I will be changing the spark plugs on my 2014 ML, I bought Bosch ZR6SII3320 plugs. Do I have to set the gap between the electrodes? or just put them on as it is? Thank you for your time in advance.

Really useful video. Just changed the plugs on my 2012 SL350 (R231). Note that on an SL the rear 2 plugs in bank 2 (left hand side of car) are really tight and you will need to remove part of the metal bracket. Bank 1 (air filter side) is very easy with lots of space.

Regarding the spark plug socket. I have a lot of tools, but never needed a 14mm, 12pt, spark plug socket before. I went to my local O'Rileys last night and they had one in stock. I hope it helps someone. GREAT VIDEO.
Thanks for the video. I had no trouble following the video and understanding what to do. Another video from another person showed disconnecting the battery and then they disconnected the computer instead of just moving it out of the way. I think either way is fine really. Basically, once the filter and computer are out of the way, you just unbolt the coils and remove each plug one by one. I am glad I do not have to remove the cover as many other videos show. Thanks for posting.
The way shown here is the correct way. You do not want to be unplugging those connectors.
Yeah man….it’s a bitch to get to the battery in the ML’s in general but not a good idea to chance screwing up the billion pin plug connectors in the ECM.
For the life of me I could kick the engineers that thought it was a good idea to put the engine management computers so close to and sometimes on top of the engine on Mercedes vehicles.
Just a little more wire length and a cooler spot under the hood would have been awesome.
I’ve replaced so many ECM’s because the engine heat finally baked them.
But Mercedes’ engineers never really ga e a crap about the guys working on them as they did production costs and ease of assembly.

Great video!! I am jealous how easily the coil wire harness connectors released. I managed to replace 1 through 5 without disconnecting, but #6 does not give and room.
I used a small pick, then screwdriver from behind, but no luck. I ended up not changing it because I knew I was going to end up breaking something, so I will go back in after I get a spare ignition coil on standby. These just seem totally stuck on a 2014 ML350 that I was working on. Any ideas out there?

NEVER DIRECTLY spray water on it use a micro fiber cloth and some dish detergent mix in hot water get a old brush for the hard to get areas. Then dry and spray protectant all over and wipe down after 👍
I own a 2013 C350 and I cannot remove the computer. It won't budge. Suggestions? Otherwise, this is the best video I've seen for spark plug removal. Thanks!
Randy Bain no worries I’m here to help! Try giving it a good tug while slightly wiggling the computer black mount back and forth (in the direction towards the front windshield then away towards the front of the vehicle) should pop right out. @@viewtube3310 thanks for the effort but I did find a PDF that provided instruction. In hind sight, the instruction you provided is correct but this walks you through disconnecting the electrical connections, which made it easier for me to get under the unit to remove. This PDF provided further instruction that I did not go through because I just wanted to check my plugs but it turns out I do need to replace. I have subscribed to your channel and appreciate the great info you provide. Yes, having a dedicated camera man would help but as others have morning, there's nothing else out there showing this much detail. Thank you!

Randy I have your same engine, what spark plugs did you use? Also I used a 14mm and 16mm socket and couldn’t get them inside the engine... what did you use?
@@sharpshooter200 I used a 14mm, 3/8 inch drive, 12 point thin wall Assenmacher Tools spark plug socket and it worked exactly the way it was supposed to. I bought the Bosch double iridium. This is the exact plug Mercedes used but this doesn't have the Mercedes emblem, so it's less expensive.
I was able to to get the spark plugs on the passengers side of the car swapped but I couldn't access the drivers side. I ended up taking the car to a mechanic who was willing to install the the remaining plugs for me. I'm no mechanic and I probably will not attempt to do this again. I couldn't get the access I needed to the plugs in the driver's side. This really will depend on your patience, skill set and tools. Hope this helps!

The engine bays are sealed up pretty well and stay very clean. As long as nothing is leaking there will just be a little dust you can easily remove.
This is a nice video, thank you ! What about the factory recommended torque values, though? These plugs are supposed to aligned to have the arc facing in the direction of the fuel injectors, and this is achieved by a specific torque value.

FYI, my 2013 E-350 has a different set up of wires etc on the drivers side around the fender side of the computer(several "clamp/screws") (I am not sure what they are really called) and such.
My engine computer definitely not coming out that easy .....

thank you for making this video. It finally got me to get started and made it. Spark plugs 4, 5, and 6 were the most difficult. More so 5 & 6. My problem with 6 was pulling out and reinserting back in the coli. Darn, how did you do it? Did you use some special tool to extract it and push it in? It does not help to have fat hands..... Aside from that, your notes and comments helped a great deal.
AE Lino my issue yesterday, can’t for the life of my do it. I have the tool, but it’s so tight. Can’t figure out how to pull the coil out
Use a tool like Harbor Freight 37909 pliers. But dull the edges with a file since they are razor sharp from whatever "factory" they came out of. Or get some better quality ones like that. You need that for #6.
Please blow compressed air in the spark plug hole before moving plug in case there is sand and dirt in there.
It will fall into the cyllinder hole if you don’t blow that stuff out first.
put some no seize on your plug threads to help with removal next time

Push down on the clip and apply a good amount of pulling force it should pop off

Yep this will work. Standing at the front of the vehicle with the hood open. cylinder number one will be on your left-hand side which is the passenger side all the way toward the front radiator grill.

Bank 2 cyls 4-6 that bracket must come out just to get the those coils off. It’s a REAL PAIN trust me.
Is there a video on the bracket?

What Mercedes model are you working on? Also the engine model please? Just wish you had a proper camera man holding the camera still and showed more details. I don’t see any videos for 2012 ML350 M276 engines spark plug change videos.

You could have become a celebrity if you had another person holding a camera. Can you try showing this properly at least what goes in where all over again?

@@chuguanyu Drivers side plugs are the hardest thing to do. I was short of time and couldn’t do it. I took it to a local mechanic and give him the spark-lug I bought to install.

Should I change coils togather with a sparkplugs?
Great question!!! In the case of coils it’s more about how long they have been in use on the vehicle. I would recommend changing them at 100,000 miles
The air filter and coil pack bolts are not standard bolts. They are Torx bolts. I think a T-30 but don’t quote me. The bolt for that bracket might be an E-10???
T-30 I believe one was a t-27
Coil bolts are E8
He used a regular 6mm hex socket on the coil bolt.....surprised it worked
How do you know which spark plug to replace? or whether the problem is with the ignition wire instead of the plug?
Well almost all Mercedes use spark plugs and ignition coil so there are no spark plug wires. Its either the spark plug or the ignition coil itself. You can isolate the the problem using a OBDII scan tool to check for engine code. The code will tell you whether it’s the spark plug or the coil. If you don’t have a diagnostic scan tool you can go to most auto parts stores and they will hook up their scanner for free. Make sure you write down code or get a print out for future reference. What model and year vehicle do you have?

If you remove ECU you need to be careful you remember full upwards way. ..
My cables are connected to the bracket so it doesn’t allow the ecm to just pull up, i’m stuck here! Can you help??? Please
Proula TheBoss absolutely locate the black tap that is holding the wire harness to the metal. Carefully take a flat screwdriver and pry between the metal and plastic tab it should pop up and out
