Werner, you are a good man. The way you dealt with that vagrant at the fuel station, the way you make space for Cissy on the road, the way you support her as a rider... your mother must be proud. And to Cissy, I am very impressed with your development as a rider and with how quickly you learned to ride. I look forward to watching all your videos.
Hi Frank, thank you for the message. We love your channel and all the content you put out by the way! Yes we are very blessed to be on this adventure together.
Haha! Werner actually knows the guy pretty well, unfortunately he is a little bit not all there. He has been in the area since the dawn of time and actually harmless. But he just needs a firm word now and then.
Godspeed and safe travels. 890AdvR here as well and love it. Will be following you all from the USA. Looking forward to see how things progress for you all and how you both develop over time.
Thank you for the well wishes and following along! Yes the 890 AdvR is one amazing machine! I started on a 640 Adv, still have the bike and love it! But enjoying the 890 a lot! Wish you many happy miles on yours aswell!
Very good videography and editing. Love the POVS from both cameras and capture of conversations between the two of you. Looking forward to following your adventure. Happy riding!
Hi David, this is a dream come true and we enjoying it every day! Thank you for the kind words, much appreciated! We have a lot to learn on the RUclips side of things! We have no route planned but if we come past your side we will give you a shout!
Well guys just looking at your 1st time hitting the road so enjoy the adventure and hopefully I'll be able to catch up in a few days to where you guys are today....cheers 😎👊😎😎
Welcome to the adventure and thank you for being here! We hope you enjoy the bunch watching! :) You have some catching up to do but hey at least you won't run out of adventures!

Awesomeness. Very brave move to pack it all in and hit the road. What a feeling it must be, not many people will ever get to experience that kind of freedom in their lifetime. Just got myself a 1090 a few months ago and plan to do some touring around Europe starting next spring, will be following your travels closely to share in your adventures and pick up some tips and tricks from your learnings along the way... Ride safe and keep the videos coming.
Thank you for comming along on this journey with us! And haha yes we going to make a lot of mistakes so stay tuned and hopefully you dont have to make them! 🤣 the 1090 what a beast! Amazing bike! Congrats on the beauty! Wish you many happy fun miles on the steed! Lets ride!
I am contemplating on doing the same as you.Noob at the adventure thing got a Gs800f.Resentlly retrenched no more commitments So thinking of selling house and everything and just do what you guys made a reality for yourself. Will be following eagerly got so much questions that needs answering.Enjoy your trip guys and travel safe.
Hi Jens, thank you for the follow! We hope you enjoy the adventure with us! Sorry to hear you got retrenched but maybe its just a new start to new adventures! You know the saying “One door closes another opens” its a choise one has to make for yourself. Everybody is diffirent, but one thing we can say is that it was the best thing we have every done! Now lets get back to the adventure and lets ride!
Just came across your videos. Good stuff so far. How long did it take Cissy to get her bike license from her first lesson.. Can't wait to follow your travels...
Hi Francois, glad you found us and are enjoying our videos. At the moment i only have my learners. I had a half day course at open rider (see first video) and after that we bought a bike to practise with. I practised with that bike on quite road/parking area for 3 days and then did my first multi day trip. Before i leave south africa i will need to do my full licence but we didnt had time for that now. Luckily everyone i have been riding with has been very patient with me, learning as i go along.
@@thetravelingtortoises Well, you doing well. I've been riding for years... (since 1985 lol) I was just wondering about border crossings as I suspected you on a learners license.., or are your Trans border trips coming at a later stage.. Enjoy and safe riding..
Wishing you all the best. I am going to be following with interest. I had a look at the KTMs but ended up going with the Honda CB500X. They look to be an interesting bike. The only reason I didn't go with one is they haven't been here too long in New Zealand. Maybe a bit too soon to ask this, but are you planning on just touring South Africa or are you going to other countries?
Hi! The CB500X is an amazing bike, we looked at them but they only arrived in SA a couple of months ago. But as long as you love your bike and enjoy the ride its all good! We are planning too not plan too much! But there is a great big wide world out there to explore! ;)
Good luck on your travels - brave decision to sell everything and just go. Though must admit am contemplating the same thing if I get my 2wheel license. Curious though why you choose KTM bikes and not Honda eg..
Best decision we made for us! Love it every day! Freedom of the open road and new adventures every day. I (Werner) started off with a KTM 640 Adventure, still love that bike and never had issues. Love the KTM’s performance, suspention, balance and riding position. But dont get to hung up about “what bike” 99% of the bikes today are amazing and capable of doing almost everything. Find the bike YOU like and ride that! 😁 thank you for joining on the adventure and good luck with getting your license! 💪
@@thetravelingtortoises Good for you 😄 .Know that feeling - freedom of the open road - done a few a few months cycle trips. That explains your love for KTM. Like the looks of the 640 & 390. When choosing a bike it will be a light weight one Honda CRF 300Rally/ CB500 Made more rally like by RallyRaid products. You brought the 390 to my attention so will be looking into that a bit more. But for now I enjoy riding my Can-Am Ryker Rally trike and dreaming of when I get my 2wheel license 😆. Looking forward to explore the world on a motorbike. Keep enjoying yourself, ride safely and am looking forard to many vids.
I love the old lady “640 Adv” briliant bike and you feel like a Dakar racer on it! But really enjoying the 890AdvR auch a beautiful and fun machine. The Can-Am trikes are fun to ride enjoy it! Whatever bike you pick in the end for your two wheel steed I hope you enjoy it and that you have many fun and happy miles on it! Just remember pick the bike you want not what people tell you to get or what some youtuber ride. You need to ride it and live with it! Take your time test rode as many as you can and then make your pick. Now lets ride!
@@thetravelingtortoises Sounds good feeling like a Dakar racer 🤣🤣. The trikes indeed are great fun to ride - will take me to the UK coming summer. After the summer I will start with riding lessons - will take it slow and hope to be able to get my license at the end of 2023 or beginning of 2024. For sure will not choose a bike on what others tell me but wuill definitely take into account the experience of experienced adv travellers. Thanks for reminding me about that 🙂. Though will go for a light(ish) bike, since I already am an "old lady" and want something I can pick up relatively easy since I feel dirt roads will be for sure on my way. Keep enjoying the feeling of being free and experiencing new things every day. But most of all stay safe and happy.
Good Luck. Maybe we will see each other on the road sometime. My lady friend and I are leaving for Cape Town from JHB next Saturday (17th). Will be going around Rhodes, Port Alfred then along the coast towards CPT.. This is our channel... youtube.com/@advrides . Will be vlogging this trip. Safe miles.
