Don't think he's underrated but ok lol. His guitar playing playing IS underrated, but I haven't heard a single person who wouldn't love to have his voice
That was a head voice high note but the transition from chest voice to head voice was terrible. He push his chest voice trying to get to the note and he ended up cracking his voice and eventually flipping into head voice. A correct way would be doing it without the cracking sound between the mix.
Very talented human been and a beautiful ring sound of voice he had .apart from that he didn't had any vocal education here you can see how he when from his chest voice pushing up trying to mix to head voice but he ended up cracking his voice between the mix 13:06. The funny thing is that people seem to like that transition but in reality is a terrible way of destroing your vocal chorus
My man didn’t hire a vocal coach until he started coughing up blood from screaming so much. A lot of people say that the reason why he sounds less enthusiastic after a certain point is because of his depression, but he’s actually just making sure he can talk the next day.
Marge Simpson sounds like Kurt. Go ask Rhoda'a sister, what's her name? Julie Kavner or something like that. She is the voice of Marge. Anyway if she is still alive she's an old lady by now.
Ternaldius Cornell's lowest sung note is a C#2, interview notes don't count for range. His C6 is a distorted C5. Staley's G1 is nanocrusis and his A6 is an A5.
Bizaare to hear him do lowrider in vocal fry. Satisfying. During my midlife crisis i was there in real time as a child inspired att 11 in 91 started playin in @12 inn92. The new to me rebirth of genius and simplicity is refreshing.
Hey, you actually took the time to pinpoint all of the notes I listed on the TRP thread plus medium range. Great work. I would've personally picked the C5s in Lounge Act for the C5 section, those are powerful and resonant. There's also the ones from Son of a Gun live in seattle 1990. Also, I really like your editing.
+Bryce Flint (Terramt) He also skipped the awesome sustained D5 from "Mr. Moustache" demo, the full F5s from "Mr Moustache", the E5 from "Blew" and other notes...I don't know why he puts the E3-E4 section. That takes a lot of space and it's useless...It's good to put the F4 section because that is the starting point of "strain" and "passaggio-thing" for tenors, but as I said the E3-E4 section is pointless
Francesco Paterni I don't know if the F5 from Mr Moustache is full, seems oddly disconnected, but that could be my memory failing me, scince I listed that. The D5 from Mr Moustache's demo is great and full though, true. And the song's name should at least be in anotations, just in case.
Yeah the E3-E4 is pointless but we don't have videos of vocal ranges that put this section so it's cool to have it. People who don't know that much about vocal notes have an idea of these notes
so when you list the note and octave (ex: C5) are you indicating that that's the highest note he's hitting in that specific portion of the song? Just making sure. Thanks : D
Man it’s a bit too late for this because Matt doesn’t have his old young voice that could scream but I wish Muse covered “You Know You’re Right” I think that would’ve been awesome.
Mixed, it's how much of belting or "screaming" happens, by using both your head and chest to resonate, it's the result of increasing sound volume to the singing.
people don't understand how skilled of a singer Kurt really was. He was able to go pretty damn low as seen in the early demo of sappy and other recordings. He also didn't struggle at all most of the time going pretty high such as about a girl and when he sang lithium in E standard tuning and more.
Hi ! I'm trying to understand some theoretical things with his voice. I'm sorry if my questions are stupid, I'm only a beginner. I'll take the song About a girl as an example for my questions. So in this video, it says that his chest voice goes up to C#4. If we listen to the demo version of this song, he sings it in a lower key. ruclips.net/video/RanpKcYvuLo/видео.html He hits F4-G4 but it seems strained as hell. He's struggling a lot to me. Do these notes are even still in chest voice ? Now there is the unplugged version of this song. A half step higher. ruclips.net/video/_24pJQUj7zg/видео.html He hits F#4-G#4 but he doesn't seem to struggle at all. He barely opens his mouth but I think it sounds powerful. What's the secret behind that ? Is it still chest voice or mixed ? And finally the standard version of this song, a whole step higher compared to the demo. ruclips.net/video/AiMwlJrn0_M/видео.html He hits G4-A4. I think he's really screaming here compared to the unplugged. So... How can he hit those notes if his chest voice is limited to a C#4, let's say F4 if he's pushing. I read somewhere when he was younger, he went to a lake alone just to practice screaming and discover his voice. Do you think he found some vocal techniques on his own, such as belting and mixed voice ? Some people say his singing was full throat but how can he hits powerful high notes (Smells Like Teen Spirit chorus for example) if he breaks with a F4 ? Are they belted notes in his chest register ? Did he manage to use support techniques by himself to sing these high notes ?Here's another example where he seems to struggle too ruclips.net/video/sAVybZDjP8s/видео.html Sorry if I made some mistakes. I'm not a native speaker and I'm still trying to learn all vocal technical terms in English. :)
I think with some of his home recordings, he was actually in the process of writing some of those tunes and he wasnt yet solid as to what the melody would be. He was just forming that and also trying to figure where and how his voice would eventually fit into it. I think he was just basically humming the words and when his voice would crack its because he wasnt quite sure of where he was going with the melody. This is just hunch i have. I know it doesnt help you much. Let's see if anyone else steps in here to set us straight.
His best singing is possibly on Bleach.Certain notes are rendered with one take, quite possibly-an urgency to get it done proper;yn and fast, rings out as clearly as the sheer overload of emotional schizophrenia in his voice/music.Vocals on Nevermind were crisper and more rounded-butch vig commandeered Kurts voice in the same way he full frontal assaults your eardrums with the perfect pitch of guitars bass and drums. In utero is rawer-more in the vein of Bleach-but with certain melodic nods to nevermind-he almost wrecks his vocie in this album-and that is why it may well be their best effort, vocally and musically-suicide was always the mindset-punk or nothing....
In vocal fry, his lowest is an A1 so his vocal range is from A1 to C6, so it's a 4 octaves and 2 notes range ;) (4.2 octaves) (A1+ 4 octaves = A5 ; A5 + 1 note = B5 + 1 note = C6)
Haranya Skyyat Thank you. Some say he had 3 octaves and 4 notes, others say 4 octaves. Initially, it's surprising to see that he had such range because people downplay (and he downplayed) his musical chops. He's an amazing artist.
Moussaka Chaos You're welcome ;) If we consider that his lowest note is an F2, his vocal range extends of 3 octaves and 4 notes ^^ Kurt Cobain is my idol and Nirvana's my favorite band ever but my favorite vocalist is Jeff Buckley ^^
Moussaka Chaos I don't know if you know it but Mike Patton (from Faith No More) has the largest vocal range in Rock history (a little more than 6 octaves)
For anyone reading this: It seems like the person who put this video together forgot(understandable) that some of these songs are transposed down a half step. I can’t bother to list all the notes he got wrong, but if you’re a nerd like me, keep this in mind while listening.
Just by the timbre of his voice it's clearly a tenor, range doesn't really all it takes to know someone vocal type his tessitura is quite high his low is fry and airy his tone is youthful and he is smoker and have a bad habit and technique he screams alot too
dude probably didn't know anything bout vocal range and didn't care.... lol
Correct. Here you can hear his chest voice pushing up trying to mix to his head voice but he ended up cracking his voice 13:06
haahahahahaahhahaa u made my day so true
Yet he has more release than you ever will

I love how the video on Kurt's vocal range is 14 minutes and the video on Brendon Urie's is 9 minutes.
I'm Rad And Sad ok
I'm Rad And Sad That video is 11 minutes. Which one were you talking about?
not gnarly jace Well Kurt actually sounds good when he sings and doesn’t hit high and low notes just to show off how wide his range is.
That’s because kurt didn’t care about this voice so he did stuff you shouldn’t do as a vocalist. While Brendon obviously takes care of his vocals so he limits himself to his range and sings properly instead of trying to force it like Kurt.
H. E. M. Actually Brendon is tenor, and Kurt is a high baritone and baritones usually have bigger vocal range than tenors

Cornell: (B1) D2 - A5 (C6) = 4.75 (5.18) octaves

Pretty sure he didnt give a damn what anyone thought about him, he didnt like himself
For anyone reading this: It seems like the person who put this video together forgot(understandable) that some of these songs are transposed down a half step. I can’t bother to list all the notes he got wrong, but if you’re a nerd like me, keep this in mind while listening.
Some notes are also plain wrong. For the notes your interested in hearing, check against a tuner.
I checked in a tuner it's right
It's not right XD

Just by the timbre of his voice it's clearly a tenor, range doesn't really all it takes to know someone vocal type his tessitura is quite high his low is fry and airy his tone is youthful and he is smoker and have a bad habit and technique he screams alot too
Je ne comprends pas à quoi sa sert et c'est quoi les chiffres et les lettres (C3 , C#3...)🤔🤔🤔
