Great video! I am a 1st owner of a 05 Rx 330 at 200,000 miles and it still runs great! Little late to the party but: 1) Make sure both cars don't have the rubber oil cooler line or you can cause some catastrophic damage to your engine. Not sure which model it covered, but its definially on the lexus. and The RX is based on a Camry/Highlander! 2) Make sure to do the transmission oil at 100k. I did my first trans oil at 165k (not recommended but the fluid was still red). 3) My lexus has the casset player hah 4) Lexus has a full sized spare under the car. My spare is still from 2004 lol. 5) Lexus has a snow mode 6) Center consol is movable froward and backwards 7) Make sure to put a pipe cleaner down the sunroof drain. Thats a common leaking water point into the cabin. 8) Spark plug at 120k PIA. Overall, its a great car and I'm running it to the ground or until ti gives up.
thank u for your video, and thank u for your service! (i.e as a school teacher, which is an invaluable thing to do) Ironically ,the lower spec RX of those years did have a tape deck as standard, just saw in another video!
This is a very informative video and I like the presentation. Very good job on being able to present the difference between the two and why one is better or worse depending upon your needs. Great job
With older cars if you have a pick n pull nearby, you can go and take out the part you need and save tons if money for oem parts. The rates are standardized.
I have a 2010 FJ cruiser and a 2015 RX 350. I use to have 4 runner, but the FJ is much more fun for off-roading. The RX is my daily driver. Both only have 60,000 miles on them, they will probably both outlive me.
Back in the summer I decided I needed a trash and bike hauler. Of the 2 that I own that are large enough my truck is too old and tired (it was my dad's) for even weekly use and the Outback is too new (ok for groceries, but not trash). My goal was to stay under $7k if possible ( trash car remember). I narrowed the search to a Highlander or Pilot. My bro just bought a '10 Infinity and also recommended the Volvo, but I didn't like the track record of either ( and repairs can get expensive). The Forerunners available just didn't seem to have the right price AND mileage. I was leaning very strongly toward the Highlander when I decided to research the RX350. Plenty of room, superb reliability, loaded with luxuries ( which immediately sold my wife-Lexus is very popular with the ladies) the RX350 rang the bell. I discovered that most of the used Lexus's available were in very good condition. I guess if you can afford a brand new luxury car, you can afford a garage and meticulous maintenance. I found a local female driven ( they usually are) '08 AWD with 130k for $8k. Obviously garaged, it's perfect inside and out except for no cargo cover. Seemed too pristine for trash, but I put down a used shower curtain in the back and use it anyway. It came with a hitch so I don't have to put the bikes inside. Yours has very low mileage and even though it was 12 years old I would call it a pretty doggone good price. Although you said, and I've heard others say, that 87 is fine the manual calls for 91 octane or higher. i ran some 87 through mine with no hiccups, but since I only drive mine once a week, and don't have to buy much fuel, I use non-ethanol 93 octane. I am very happy with the Lexus. It has tons of luxury, drives great, runs like a sewing machine, and is often the nicest car at the dump.
i drove over 20 years our german so called "premiums" ....but since i bought a used 2010 Lexus Hybrid with over 200000km i know now what quality and reliability really is ! only concern is the waterpump on the V6.
The 2nd gen RX is essentially a highly trimmed Highlander from the same year, those will be most of the parts you use. Just keep an eye on the power steering rack, the car is otherwise excellent.
My questions usually involve cargo capacity specs with seats folded up & cargo with seats folded down. Please give a visual & specs for both in the future & thank you for your content. Cheers.
The one in this video is RWD. You can get an AWD, but you will see a slight decrease in mpg, since any spinning rotational mass such as the differential shafts cut down on efficiency. Edmunds said the awd sill gets 19/24, but that seems more like the mpg for the rwd.
I found a 2007 Lexus RX one owner serviced at the local dealer has 37 service records but has 200 k miles !! Its in great shape but 200 k miles what you think bro ? Appreciate your opinion
What’s the price? What’s the overall condition? That’s a little high on the mileage side for my taste, but if the price is right it may not be too bad. There is a Lexus on RUclips that has over a million miles on it, so if it’s well taken care of, it may not be terrible.
1:36 the Rx is belt driven. Timing change intervals are detrimental as these are interference engines. Also only 6 cylinder 4runners run chains. The v8 3uz engine is belt as well.
This is a 2007 Lexus which has a timing Chain. The prior model years had belts. You are correct about the V6 & V8 4runners. Not only the gas mileage, but the timing belt replacement is a huge turn off for potential buyers and the resale price of the V8 models reflect those detriments.
@@MrMpm3001 You brought up a good point about the timing belts. I am planning a 2 year review and recap with the pros and cons of the Lexus. I will make a point to mention that years 06 and prior have belts. Don't know about you, but I won't buy a car that has timing belt on it unless I have to haha
@@HighlyPaidHomeRepair lol... I have 3 belt driven Toyota’s/Lexus. 2 1mzfe vvti and non. And a 1uzfe (gs400). All timing belts sadly. But in defense of the timing belt, if you buy a poorly maintained chain driven engine, it can be waaaayy worse than a every 3-5 year timing belt. I’ve seen a lot of blown timing chain engines at work. Mostly lack of oil changes from the customers.

Looked at a ‘98 4runner limited 2wd v6 in the San Diego area a few weeks ago with only 144,000 miles and 1 owner since new. Nice old guy he leased it then bought it but he had no service records and he had done every oil change and whatever else he had done to it all by himself. And he wasn’t a mechanic. Drove and felt great but considering that it had never seen a professional mechanic shop in 20 years…no thanks…only $5,500 clean carfax and title but who knows what was neglected. He never did the timing belt either.
Thanks for the review.. Both are excellent choices I am still deciding which Toyota / Lexus SUV model I want to purchase. I have also heard somewhere that the Lexus takes full synthetic oil changes every 10,000 miles and uses only high octane fuel. Is this true? Also what kind fuel mileage are you getting from both and does the 4 Runner take high octane fuel and full synthetic oil also?
Lexus comes standard with Full Synthetic, which is good for any vehicle. I run 1 year/20k full synthetic in all my vehicles. It's cheaper in the long run. The Lexus insists you put in high octane, since its competing with BMW, Mercedes, Acrua, etc. All these brands suggest 93, but some need it, others don't. The E39 BMW required high octane fuel or else the catalytic converters will clog on you. I've done research on the Lexus and found no "requirement" for 93. We've been running it for well over a year on 87 and it runs great. Most computers compensate for the the increase or decrease in octane. So feel free to run the cheap fuel! The 4Runner requires 87 low octane. Since the filming of this video I got rid of the 4Runner , since it had LOTS of issues which I mention on this video: ruclips.net/video/yYk1PhRAjtE/видео.html Still have the Lexus and have ZERO plans to get rid of it. I love that car.
Hi Thanks for the video. I want to buy a SUV, should I buy a Toyota or a Lexus and should I buy a hybrid or a gasoline. I like Lexus and my budget is 20 to 30K what do you suggest looking for your input please. I have used Toyota Camry before and now I have a Honda accord 6cyl fully loaded 2005 gave me good service will keep that as 2nd car, but wants buy a SUV
@Mctrician2 It is really and sincere advice and I appreciate. Many talk about Hybrid and I am sure it helps many. But what they don't realize is we need to pay an extra $ for Hybrid and if you change cars every 4 to 5 years its not worth as you paid a high price unless as you said for some one who uses a lot . Thanks
Where can I find a good dashboard replacement for the 2009 Lexus RX 350? It's braking down by pieces here in the South East. The dealership wants $3k to replace it, that's too much for an old car.

There is just no comparison between a Toyota badge vehicle and a Lexus badge vehicle of similar size and functionality. We own a full-size Lexus LS430 for years and until today it is still in pristine condition, checked up and maintained annually by the Lexus Service Center nearest to our house. We got rid of all of our German luxusry cars because they cost and arm and a leg to maintain and repair when they get older, but ot my Lexus.
LS430 has always been my absolute dream vehicle. Considering an RX350 or one of the larger Lexus SUV’s, to have a little more room/better design for hauling around bikes and camping and stuff. Could pull it off with the LS430 almost certainly, just kinda feel like I want something other than a sedan. But it would be Very hard for me to turn down a pristine LS430 if I could actually find one...
Toyota and lexus are the same company. They are literally made in the same factories. Every engine and transmission in any lexus through the history of the company has been used in many toyota models simultaneously.
The 2007 to 2009 have the lsd - limited slip differentials. The 2004 - 2006 have open differentials. I own one of each. The 2007 with the lsd actually has a more intrusive "fun" mitigation system working. So it's nanny skills are more effective. I prefer the 2007 RX350 over the 2005 RX330. I like the better acceleration, the better cornering the lower profile tires provide as the suspensions on both are the same. The 2007 also is loaded with every option available. I like the stereo system, the Mark Levison system. Both are great vehicles.

I love my 4runner and it's very very reliable. I have used it for more than 3 years everyday across my country, I don't think the Lexus can with stand the terrible terrain I ride on.
You are correct. The Lexus is a great in town vehicle, not meant for the rough roads a 4Runner can handle. Thanks for watching!
Gx470 is more off-road capable than the 4runner to be honest lol, but the Rx is different for sure.
@@jordanmercier3616 I'll give it a try
@@sylvesteradim1532 it's a rebadged land cruiser Prado, V8 2uz-fe, center locking diff, full time 4wd, air suspension in the back from factory. You can usually find them cheaper than 4runners depending on ur market, and they're usually soccer mom vehicles so they aren't beat to shit like some 4runners.
I love how much smaller the Lexus of this generation is compared to the 2010 remodel and the 2016 remodel
That's exactly why I bought the 2nd Gen model, along with it looking less fem than Gen 3 and less weird than Gen 1...
@flavellinator absolutely. Gen 3 RX350 looks like a station wagon. And Gen 4 looks even worse
I agree with you. The truck based one is more fun to drive since it is engaging. The car based one is pleasantly boring. Serves diff purpose.
Great video! I am a 1st owner of a 05 Rx 330 at 200,000 miles and it still runs great!
Little late to the party but:
1) Make sure both cars don't have the rubber oil cooler line or you can cause some catastrophic damage to your engine. Not sure which model it covered, but its definially on the lexus.
and The RX is based on a Camry/Highlander!
2) Make sure to do the transmission oil at 100k. I did my first trans oil at 165k (not recommended but the fluid was still red).
3) My lexus has the casset player hah
4) Lexus has a full sized spare under the car. My spare is still from 2004 lol.
5) Lexus has a snow mode
6) Center consol is movable froward and backwards
7) Make sure to put a pipe cleaner down the sunroof drain. Thats a common leaking water point into the cabin.
8) Spark plug at 120k PIA.
Overall, its a great car and I'm running it to the ground or until ti gives up.
Just bought a Toyota Harrier Airs 2003/09 model with 1Mz-FE 3000cc V6.
This video helps a lot.
Thanks for the 📹
Rest job!!!! You helped me with my purchase decision. Keep up the good work!!!!
thank u for your video, and thank u for your service! (i.e as a school teacher, which is an invaluable thing to do) Ironically ,the lower spec RX of those years did have a tape deck as standard, just saw in another video!
i just for .seeing this movie. bought a rx350 2006 198,000km. I'm super excited about the car now!
This is a very informative video and I like the presentation. Very good job on being able to present the difference between the two and why one is better or worse depending upon your needs. Great job
That 63 chevy C10 is pretty sweet.
With older cars if you have a pick n pull nearby, you can go and take out the part you need and save tons if money for oem parts. The rates are standardized.
I love 4 runner too. I own the RX350. But I would take the 4 runner in a heartbeat.
I have both but RX350 AWD drives 100% better and way faster both are reliable
Nice! Thank you for the info on the AWD! Perfect for northern living :)
As a 00 RX 300 owner you speak the truth as to how smooth the RX is
Thanks for this great video. I want to buy a suv, but I really love the 4th generation of toyota 4runner. Wich year you think is the best?
i drove over 20 years our german so called "premiums" ....but since i bought a used 2010 Lexus Hybrid with over 200000km i know now what quality and reliability really is ! only concern is the waterpump on the V6.
Nice!!! thanks for sharing
The Lexus is closer related to the Highlander. Some of the interior elements are very similar.
I’m looking to buy my first used car. Where should I start looking?
The 2nd gen RX is essentially a highly trimmed Highlander from the same year, those will be most of the parts you use. Just keep an eye on the power steering rack, the car is otherwise excellent.
You have to tell what year are those?
My questions usually involve cargo capacity specs with seats folded up & cargo with seats folded down. Please give a visual & specs for both in the future & thank you for your content. Cheers.
Most, if not all, of the RX350s were/are built in Canada. Only the hybrids are built in Japan.
Great video, thank you, very helpful!
What year is the 4Runner?
Nice review. Is the Lexus full time AWD and if so does it consume more gas?
The one in this video is RWD. You can get an AWD, but you will see a slight decrease in mpg, since any spinning rotational mass such as the differential shafts cut down on efficiency. Edmunds said the awd sill gets 19/24, but that seems more like the mpg for the rwd.
Great vid! In todays crazy used market, what would you say is the most you’d be willing to pay for a 2007-09 RX350 with less than 150k miles on it?
Buying a 07 rx 330 this week ... im excited
I wish you could still get a Gen 4 4Runner for under $10k. They’ve appreciated like crazy.
@@HighlyPaidHomeRepairunderstood. I was referring to the “04 and up are chains”. But I didn’t realize it was a rx350 not a rx330.
03 RX300 for me. More durable than the earlier models with trans issues. Made in Japan.
I got a Lexus rx330 thunderbolt edition 2005 185thousand miles for 6300 with taxes title and fees it's in excellent condition inside and out DVD players on the back seats
Made in Japan on the door
Keeping antifreeze changed will eliminate the head gasket problem
I always refer to this video. Its gold. May i ask, what year 4Runner is this?
You’re reviewing two of my favorite vehicles I’m in the market for now 2009 4Runner and RX350 2009 Lexus
I need Lexus for business
And 4Runner for camping. The prob is that it’s cutting it close if I wanted to tow a Nest airstream 16’ bc they can be heavy 3500 dry
So I’m thinking about it
I guess I can buy the towing vehicle later
I just can’t see myself paying $75k for a new tundra so it would have to be an older very well cared for tundra. We’ll see
Looked at a ‘98 4runner limited 2wd v6 in the San Diego area a few weeks ago with only 144,000 miles and 1 owner since new.
On the 4Runner, if you put the key in the tailgate the window can roll up or down 😄
Thanks for the review..
@Mctrician2 exactly. Replacement Oil is cheap. Replacement Engines are not.
New subscriber, I have the 08 Rx350 same color but instead of a 4Runner I have the sequoia and a 2000 es300. And bought my mother a Corolla, I worked at toyota Lexus 14 yrs , I’m all yota Lexus. I’ve worked at most car manufacturers and this is the best. Just watch out on the 3.5L the water pump goes out kinda early, replace the 2 idlers also. Mine was purchased just over a yr ago 91,500 miles and wtr pump went out 96,800 it is a flaw considering I’ve seen them come through 95,000-110,000. My es300 still has same wtr pump at 173,000. I had a 1995 Camry xle gold trim package and same engine as the 2000 es300 3.0L. Only difference are are hose sucks in more air. Anyways great evaluation on both vehicles. I luv the 4 runners but couldn’t find one here
Our 2007 RX 400h has the cassette player in it, but it also has Navigation which yours doesn't have so that be the difference is the package.
Thanks. Currently looking at these 2. Wish I had an excuse to buy both
All 4th gen (2003-09) V6 4Runners have a timing chain.
Great review 👍
super good quality the video!
What’s the miles on them when you bought?
Hi, can I ask you about the roof rack you got on the lexus? Is it an aftermarket piece? I am now looking for some roofrack for my RX 300 without the longitundial racks and I found only one type that looks just like the one on your roof (I cannot tell for sure). So I would like to know where you got it and if you are satisfied with it. Thanks a lot
The roof rack is a stock factory Lexus roof rack.
When things get rough, 4runners and land cruisers rule the world.
You are right!!
When things get rough, a tank will be our only rescue.
Which year is this Lexus and how many miles on it when you got it
It's a 2007 that had 78k on it at the time of purchased. Bought it from the Lexus dealer for $9,800.
What car service are you using to have found your 4Runner??? Usually they are not listed that cheap.
It was on craigslist or facebook maketplace before both sites turned into dog poop
@@HighlyPaidHomeRepair pick your alternative as you like, but I’m a bit partial to Car Gurus… seems the best for options to select- milage, colors, distance from your location, etc.etc…. just seemed better-better… But there’s was something else, i found not long ago …this car search site COMBINED different car search sites together ! Use a dash cover and crack a window when in the sun in the following manner close window with a paper crack it just enough so you can pull the paper out with some resistance but without breaking that should relief the hot air out so temps do not keep raising inside and degrading the interior!
I have a 2007 RX 350 with very low miles, but a cracked dash. Where can I find the new dash for $300 or so? The dealer wants $800.
Still driving my LEXUS RX 350 2008 n drives like new. Must admit I kept it under garqage n only done 95000kms !
***The 4runner can be jerked up for off road unlike the RX350, big difference there. Plus, I believe, a 4.2 litre motor.
Nice and I agree with you 100% Looking forward to getting one for my daughter later this year. For another $1000 that would include install and a backup camera you could replace that entire center console with an 11.5 screen from Phoenix Automotive. US Based company in California. Unit is Chinese and for many different cars. Seen similar but these guys support and sell directly. They are very particular about getting the orders correct for wiring. Plug and play pre-made wiring harnesses. Full Android 11 and will work 100% with one that had Nav or Not. My 2004GX was a non nav and got one in 2020. I now have full Android apps access including NAV, a backup camera, and full controls from my steering wheel. It retains most of the physical buttons. Takes a little tweaking but I have been super happy and they provide great tech support and firmware upgrades. Worth it for a car like that you will likely be able to drive reliably for 10+ more years! See my couple fun videos for my setup. Not an agent. Just a fan of it! Cheers!
How did they hold up after a year owning them? Any issues?
I’m sure they did..
HI Great run down. I am looking to buy a RX350 too. What year was the one you showed? Thanks for doing the review
Go for it. I got a hand-me-down 07 Rx350 Because my mom got the 2017 model. The 07 has over 235,000 miles and still running like new with all original part. The dash is beginning to crack though.
sorry for the late reply, I showed a 2007. 2010 was the first year of the new body style that also has a lot more electronic items, which is nice, but more things to break and more money in repairs. 04 was the first year of this style RX350. The dashes tend to crack and the window seals on the doors can get gummy, but this car is also in florida. 2 years and it has been great so far. I should do a follow up video...
One thing you didnt mention. The RX350 is premium fuel and the 4 runner is regular.
But that isn’t true. Why just make things up? Very odd behavior.
Excellent review
Why did you not start with the OBVIOUS answer of what model year and mileage on each car?
If you are going to get a 4Runner get a 3rd or 5th gen stay away from the 4th and 2nd I own a 3rd and 4th so I have some knowledge on them
What a deal you got on the Lexus sir I'm looking for one and none have under 100 thousand miles for less than 10 thousand dollars
you have to open all doors then click the rear power door and ity will ope3n auto
Great video. Excellent info.
I'm looking for a new car. Toyota, Subaru or Nissan. Had not considered a Lexus.
I certainly will now. Thanks.
Great! Glad it helped. After you test drive one, it's hard to want anything else...
Toyota Lexus great reliability! NIssan got to buy it new or with less than 10000 miles the Rogues are good for less, but less reliable after 5 years old and cannot forgo the tranny fluid change every 25000 miles at dealer or with reputed independent shop and always with OEM CVT FLUID!
Drive train is different. You cant tow with the RX350 what you can with the 4 runner.
Great point! I can't believe I missed adding in the towing capacity differences or the FWD vs RWD. Thank you for mentioning that!
Does the 2007 rx350 AWD have a limited slip rear differential ?
i honestly don't know...
My key Fob doesnt open the rear doors. Any ideas to fix that?
Ummm before you buy look up how to do a simple valve cover gasket change or tune up on these.....if you don't know
A 4runner for around $4500 with less than 150k on the clock? In what rust belt were you looking at those in?

How did you get that Lexus under 10k? Where can I get one to buy?
I bought it two years ago for $9,500 with 76k miles on it from a Lexus Dealer in Tampa. It has clean carfax, no accidents and a flawless maintenance history. I recently saw an 08 with under 100k for sale for under 8k that looked super nice. Check out car Gurus or even your Lexus dealer where people who have maintained them properly come to trade them in.
