A whole avocado. A few rice cakes, some oil free garlic hummus. Great meal/snack for me. So tasty. Usually have a few cups of hummus in my fridge at all times. When avocados go on sale loose I make some guacamole and perserve it with some lemon or lime. Lasts for 2 days. So good. You can also freeze avocados too. Yeah it isnt good to eat very many avocadoes, coconuts, or other plant based products with a higher fat content. often a lot of resources go into producing foods like these. Palm, cocount, almond, walnut, hazelnuts, avocadoes, etc... We can either use our current resources we have more efficiently(aka not letting them go to waste) or make the effort to eat more locally and support farmers who support mixed farming. We need food forestry and we need it soon.

Wonderful video! I'm glad you showed both the pros and cons of avocado. Avocado has been my favorite food for almost a decade. While visiting Hawaii and working in a permaculture garden there for three months, I saw many avocado trees, they're so amazing. One tree in particular in the middle of a village was way over 100 feet high, perhaps 150 feet high and 100 feet diameter, it was huge, and there were thousands of visible giant avocados on it! We filled up a big bag in "no time". Love to you both. :)

I'm from Spain so I buy avocados from Spain to avoid the cartels in South America. They're more expensive and can be hard to find without plastic, but it's worth it!
Can you do a video on purple cabbage? I've heard you mention it a couple times but I'm not very creative with my recipes. I always fry it with mushrooms and this vinegared spinach sauce I make and I love it, but having that multiple days in row can get tiring. I'd love some new ideas!
    I love your videos!

    • @samstruyven2299

In Summer (if you like vinegar) you can chop it very finely and marinate it for a day or so in the fridge, then use it in salads. In Winter as a sweet dish you can stew it till soft and add applesauce with some nutmeg or maybe some other single spice you like. It's almost like a dessert.
But you're right, it's a food that takes some effort, but it's super nutritious and so cheap!

So growing up I would not touch Avocado. Then, I learned about Mexican food and got into guacamole and loved it but still would not touch plain avocado by itself. Then, 12 years ago I stopped eating meat and started appreciating more veggies. I tried avocados again and couldn't believe how creamy and delicious they were. Now, I absolutely love them. I use them in place of mayo or cheese most times. Here in AZ they are cheap because we are so close to Mexico and California. Thanks for mentioning the fair trade option. I still think we can come up with some way to grow them sustainably without causing problems to the cultures that grown them. Obviously there is still room for improvement. Maybe we can grow them on all that land is used for cattle if we can stop animal agriculture.

I love your amazing food videos so much!! It would be cool to see you do one on turmeric, I'd love to know more about the health benefits and it's so versatile for recipes! Tempeh would also be a fun one to learn about. Thanks so much for putting out consistently enjoyable content!!

Great video once again Derek! I used to make a EPIC avocado brownie mix.. it was deadly and people were surprised when I would tell them that the main ingredient was avocado! I have always wondered about the environmental impact as well :(.

Such an awesome video again! I love this mini series you created here. 🙂👍🏻 And thank you for also touching on the environmental issues. It’s always good to be conscious of what you’re consuming.
I know it recently lost the race against oats, but I would love for you to make a video on buckwheat. Appreciate the work you do here. Keep it up! 😃
