    Put simply, they don’t really know quality. I think the extra tag on the shirt shows it’s a factory produced product made not by them. Also the manufacturing on the jacket is abysmal, the things they decided was ok to ship is wild such as the backing on the embroidery, pockets and zipper. If the inside of a garment is a mess, most likely they’re not putting thought or care into the product. Brands like these made by people who think connections and wealth will create a great product, they tend to bite creativity from people who put in years of thought into this art. Let’s be real why would James Franco know how to make a garment.

      Good observation and quality judgement. My thoughts and sentiments exactly. While I appreciate it being highlighted on this channel for awareness and observation, “real recognizes real” if we’re being blunt and honest. Innovate rather than duplicate.

    Finally another Paly video! Got one of their T-shirts and the quality blew me away. Crazy they have been picked up by so many retailers in such a short time. Them being on SSENSE is huge because I noticed a lot of their stuff went on sale there too, making it incredibly accessible (at least in this category of clothing)

    • @LOWluxury
      @LOWluxury  Месяц назад +2

      Yeah I think the positioning is really unexpected. Will be interesting to me to see if as they get bigger they use their power to shrink the retailer margins and thus stop heavy sales (which is what ERD has done) or if they actually like this positioning and WANT to be significantly more accessible

    Affordability is a real thing. ERD is elitist in its prices. Many want that aesthetic w/ out spending as much and it diversifies the niche

    I feel like Paly has the traits of bootleg of ERD, because the aesthetic feels just too close. If nothing changes, this brand will probably piss of the ERDheads (if not already) and they will start shitting on those, who consume this brand, because ERDheads wouldn't want other people to be like them, since ERD makes them special. If "ERD aesthetic" becomes more accessible, it will lose its value in the eyes of ERDheads, because it takes away their uniqueness. But punk is about self-expression and not uniqueness. That's why I kinda hate these punk luxury brands, because they are contrarian within the idea of what punk is. From a certain perspective these brands tell that you can only be special if you have money. This feels like a forced or rather insincere attempt to be special.
    This is basically what happens in the cycle of the aesthetics and trends. And I am sure this cycle will happen with punk luxury too. But I hate it more, so I wish for a quicker downfall, so I can buy out all the "unneeded" ERD, in order to highball it during the next archive/opium/punk cycle

      Yeah I’m pretty careful when I make videos about them not to outright be like “You should be into this and if you don’t like it I think you’re wrong” because there are legit reasons to keep it at arms length and I wrestle with that myself sometimes too.

    @ 3:50 I believe you’re on to something.. This does feel intentional business-wise, yet not much intent creatively speaking. In this day and age and the plethora of “Brand” (which is really just merch).. I find it odd that an actor and individual w/ such connections would choose to fall on such a known design aesthetic. Not sure what to make of their efforts as of yet. Loving the reporting

      I think I can deduce how they do things, I don't know this for a fact but I've seen enough to be pretty confident in it. I think they have production partners (factories) here in the U.S. who do the pieces based on a spec that Paly provides - so it's not straight blanks, it is custom cut and sew. Some treatments will be done in-house once the base items are delivered, whereas others like more complex embroidery will probably be done with another partner. So it's kind of like the "finishing touches" are done in-studio by Paly but the rest is just managed by them. In that sense, it's probably something like 80% product design and 20% "fashion" design in the more traditional sense.

  • @akira2392
    @akira2392 Месяц назад +1

    I think Paly plays too much into what ERD is. I dont think the ERD style really existed before this and its mix is very unique. Paly playing entire out of what makes ERD is so boring and feels insincere. Hopefully they could grow into something more unique that is more distinguishable like how ERD has grown over the last couple of years from their original roots.
    But maybe Paly was just something that saw a market and understood that they could enter that contest and offer something similar.

    • @therealhaalia
      @therealhaalia Месяц назад

      R13 was doing this style before ERD. It's mainly a women's label so it's not on the "clout goblin" radar, and thank god for that
