Hi Dave. Thanks for your thoughts on planning, I did laugh when you got to your sunrise spot at Haweswater and declared "I'm a bit late" 🤣 What went wrong with your plan?! In your intro you mentioned about missing the best of the Autumn colour in the Lakes this year. As you know, the seasons have their own timetable, so whereas the best colour may have gone in the Lakes, where I am (Cambs/Lincs border) it's very full on still in places. Next year, given your retirement, maybe find some places that have online webcams, so you can keep on eye on the conditions, and go at a moment's notice in your camper van - one of the perks of being retired, I'm sure!
Some great advise there Dave, personally I found what three words to be a bit hit and miss as far as accuracy so I use the ordinance survey app oslocate . I also have a hand held gps unit I use to mark car park locations , and spots I want to visit , makes navigating to a unfamiliar area that bit easier without relying on mobile phone signal, gps is always better. The final image was really nice like that a lot !
@davepeckphotography I got a Garmin Montana 700 nice size screen and can be used as a car sat nav when driving then a handheld GPS for walking , nice bit of kit loaded with all the os maps .
Out of curiosity Dave, I was wondering if you're a National Trust member? Only asking as so many good sites seem to be mananged by NT and at some point, it becomes more economical to buy a membership than pay per visit. So far I've resisted.
Been a member for many years and every year I get more value than the cost of membership. A couple of stately home visits and a few car parks in the Lakes and it’s done! I often stop at NT for coffee and cake on the way to a location on a photographic trip. Heartily recommended
Enjoyed this Dave, I need to be far more regimented in my approach to prep & planning. My 'wing it & blag it' approach can sometimes let me down !!

all good points! Thank you. The plan went a bit wrong as I hadn’t scouted out the parking. Got there in the end.

Thanks Lee, great advise about gps. I always found the garmin ones a pig to use put that’s probably my age!
