  • Sorry but website with templates and plans is now down thanks to hackers and running costs.
    This is the build for my Mark 2 Captain America shield that you may have seen destroyed when I posted that video a while ago. And, so its easier to build, and cheaper to make for those in the USA I used a Flexi flyer sled like the one below.
    WARNING!!!

    i just used the metal sheild and the fiberglass to add dimension thickness that tappered out to the edge and for the bolts . I went with the comics original concept. where the bolts were set up differently for wearing on your back . great job like to see you build a sheild that has depth that tappers to the center . it will have a greater range if thrown . due to the added thickness. have fun enjoy your vids

    I wonder if keeping the mold you had on the shield and seccuring it somehow would make it even stronger. You'd have the fiber glass as a back plate to the aluminum and than the aluminum to take the first strike. Plus if you made it removable somehow you could replace it quite easy.

    What about 2 flying sleds bolted with an Oreo layer of DIY kevlar?

  • @empanada65
    @empanada65 7 лет назад +2

    What would happen if instead of trying to use the sled cutout as a mold, you encased the steel mold in the fiberglass making it a part of the shield. I understand this would make it very heavy but it would increase its durability by a lot. I think it would be a cool idea to try out and then attempt to destroy.

    • @BrainfooTV
      @BrainfooTV  7 лет назад +21

      I could but I dont really see the benefit TBH. To get the same sort of strength, I'd have to go really thick with aluminium or steel (heavy), or spend about £1200 + on Titanium + Metalworking costs. And then I'm going to end up where I started maybee.

    • @DIABETGAMER
      @DIABETGAMER 7 лет назад +3

      You could also use a Flexible flyer shield like here : ruclips.net/video/2Wg8Ch6L_-Y/видео.html
      The trouble is you end up with sharp edges, and something that is overly flexible and will bend. Whilst it's still a cool build, It will definitely not take the abuse I throw at it in my other video though : ruclips.net/video/JnzaevBO6B4/видео.html

      @Evman95 5 лет назад +2

      durga karthik I own the sled; it’s made of metal. It’s not very durable though. It’s also prone to easy dents. It makes the shield heavier but also, using the sled itself as the shield would mean that it would also be prone to dents. It’s no vibranium but the fiber glass mimics vibranium in that it makes the shield lightweight, durable, strong, and flexible.

    a red or grey gelcoat before the resin would give a nearly mirror finish and cut down on painting . also I feel, speaking from experience, those nuts would eventually break out. a large washer held on with a nut would give a much stronger fixing.

      I didnt really think about making such things to be honest, but If I get more subscribers and people want that sort of video I might make stuff like that. Would you want higher end builds like colin furze, or a mid road build that is easier to do at home but not quite as swish? Every time you bring out a welder and servos most people can't do that if you know what I mean, although it's cool to look at.

      I dont see why not, but you would have to make sure that the inside face where you create the front of the shield didn't have any casting marks or designs that may ruin the look of your fiberglass shield when you remove it. You might also need another timber frame to add extra support so the plastic dosent wobble or flex when laying the fiberglass.
