TTArtisan 10mm F2: A Few Years Too Late

- Опубликовано: 29 ноя 2024
- In this video I check out the new TTartisan 10mm F2 for Sony E APSC. This lens is moderately good in terms of performance, and it is quite affordable, but there are a lot of other lenses that also fit that criteria around this focal length.

The closest comparable autofocus lenses, that I know about, are 3-4 times the price (Sony 11, sigma 10-18, Tamron 10-20). There is the Rokinon 12, at a little more than double the price. I think it’s worth keeping in mind, there are lots of people out there that simply can’t afford those lenses, even if we see them as affordable, that’s not everyone’s situation. This lens is a very big deal for those people.
Good video btw, and cruises are such great family get aways, we are doing one to New Zealand soon.
After I buy the Sony 11mm, I can't afford it anymore either ;-)
At least not until work with it.
Also for people who don't use ultra wide too often it's not worth investing a huge amount of money, whereas for occasional use this would be perfect
@@banditalley9592 a "huge amount of money" is relative. I find the 11mm Sony F1.8 a perfectly fair deal, it does what I need it to do. And if you are vlogging, you need it a lot. If you have a big family, you need it a lot as well.
I love your videos ❤ nice to see you here in the comments
its good for its price ,but I wouldn't say ,its the bomb.
I wouldn't mind shooting manually with this lens. While I generally prefer shooting with AF, it really boils down to what we intend to shoot with this focal length. And since I see myself shooting more of landscapes and buildings if I had this lens, I don't mind taking my time with MF.
For event photography, the AF can save valuable seconds for priceless moments shot at f/2.
Hmm...but if you're good at zone focusing manually at around f5.6-8, yeah just go with that and get this lens haha!
I think this video is perfectly titled. Years ago I would have probably gone for it but now it's more of a novelty.
You mean: Perfect TTitle?
What would be a better lens in this price bracket?
@@GreySectoid If you don't necessarily need 10mm buy a used Rokinon 12mm. I have both at the moment. Rokinon is way better optically. IT's sharper at F2 than the TT Artisan at F8.
Just got back to photography after few years, and I cannot believe the mess in the systems, but the return of the manual lens is a welcome thing. Few years back I could not afford the lenses for my EOS system, now I can get very good grass for a fraction of the price. Not to mention the used stuff. I just got this lens and can't wait to take it out for a spin. With the modern cameras offering the peaking and other focusing aids the manual bit on a wide angle don't bother me at all.
Save the manual transmission
Ofc, my car is manual too
here in Germany still 70% manual.

😂😂😂
Have just ordered the Yongnuo 11mm af f/1,8, replacing my old, manual Samyang 12 mm, wich have served me well for many years. At around 300 us dollars (freight/custom to Norway included), it`s much cheaper than Sony 11mm 1,8, and again around 110 us dollar cheaper than the Samyang AF version, at least here in Norway. Has received generally good reviews, so I think it`s a good alternative. When that is said, it`s GREAT that TTArtisan can offer an ultrawide which is way cheaper than even the fully manual Samyang 12mm, will bring more people in to the joy of ultrawide shooting!!
It’s a funny thing, but I so look forward to your review on lenses cameras et al. I can’t for the life of me,see how I can buy them all,but if I could have one really helpful lens. What would YOU choose? I’m thinking the Sony gm range are super, but almost un affordable.
As you said if we want a sharp f5.6 lens , then there is no reason to buy an f2 lens, but is there really another sharp f5.6 ultra wide lens at this price point?
Exactly 😆
No there isn't. He doesn't seem to consider a price a factor at all. Just get Leica, everything else is obsolete.
I think it's a cheap way to have a little fun and be creative. Nice take on the lens. I appreciate the info
Great, I was waiting for your review on this lens since last few weeks. Mainly because I was planning to buy a wide angle lens for my a6400. Meanwhile, I purchased a Samyang AF12mm F2. I am enjoying autofocus on that. Best wishes!
I use 11mm sony, 24mm sony, 75mm Viltrox.
No zooms, you find many more motives walking!
Rest is covered by older lenses from Sony's first mirrorless design.
I can't even remember what it was called.
4:25 "and don't cost that much more" is a weird way to describe something that costs literally 2 to 4x as much. Is there anything even close to this lens in its price point?
No there isn't, certainly I have not found anything. He seems always to say the same for every budget lens "for a little bit more you can get this and that" and when you check the price it's several times the price.
Often have this experience with tech channels - I haven't seen the Rokinon come up even near the price of this thing
When compared to the tamron 11-20, could the extra 1mm on the wide end make a big difference say for real estate photography?
It is a difference but not worth the loss in corner sharpness and distortion control.
Well, it is a prime lens. Maybe that might make a difference as well? I still use the trusty Rokinon 12mm for real estate, and I’ll probably continue to keep using it.
Simply a another Great Lens from TTArtisan.
Such a great test, once again.
Thank you Arthur !
5:01 In Europe, most of the cars on the roads are manual cars, but yes, the number is getting lower.
Yes,but thats not the case in the US
How are the lense distortions? I don’t fish eye look
I used to have manual Samyang 12 mm f2, I liked the lens but sometimes I could see quite a big portion of picture on my chromatic aberation.
No offence but lenses have aperture range to allow photographee to use it as per their requirements. Just bcoz an lens is f2 doesn't mean it shouldn't be used at f2 only. This lens is interesting at an price point. Vlog might not found it useful due to its wide nature. But yes photographer will enjoy it. Yes an 8mm f/2 would be way more fun, challenging to design & use.
Do you think this lens for vertical filming has a good aperture?
This lens could be a great option for all the apsc shooters specially like ZVe10 with active stabilisation turned on. So it will be able give you gimbal like videos with 22 mm focal length ( considering 1.5 crop factor for apsc sensor and additional 1.44 crop factor for active stabilisation).
When you get driving lessons on board a car with manual gearbox, then you're ready to drive nearly any type of vehicle providing it has a wheel for steering (yes, armoured vehicles are a totally different business, it takes 2 months of training to get them where you want to... kind of).
And for lenses...well, it may ressemble the previous case. When you get the first bite at photography with film cameras and MF lenses, you can face anything imagery-making throws at you in terms of problems and challenges.
The "automatic" modes are tools, useful for certain situations... they are great for work, but are absolutely not "default" modes. Unless you want to let a thick portion of your creativity to what lies inside the machine.
is it good for interior photography (for listings)?
Informative video, thank you. Apart from your comment about manual cars, we can drive in the UK. 😊
Awsome video as always.
The alternative lenses you recommend are 3-5 times the price of this one, I don't think they really are alternatives for those who are looking for a budget wide angle lenses...
can you compare this len to the laowa 9mm and the Nisi 9mm?
hi loved the video! what about using it for video?
is this lens good for astrophotography?
Great lens for the price 👌
in real test.. This lens is a failure.. a huge failure
1. f2 very bad for me..
2. when use f8-f11, there is an image point around the middle, which is not clear, like watercolor and blurry.. so bad that you can't use f8-f11..
Some photographers also experience the same thing even though they have replaced the item (warranty)
ruclips.net/video/tXBdMvIixlg/видео.html problem at 7:40
@@DuniaKita19 It's a somewhat mediocre lens but I wouldn't call it a huge failure.
Why did I pay $500 for the Laowa 9 2.8?
We dont know 🤷
The Laowa is a much better lens across the board. There is really no need for autofocus on a lens this wide either.
when I use a front lens filter with this lens I can see it in the corners
I am looking for a lens for interior architecture photography. Will this lens fit the panasonic lumix gx800k camera?
I bought this lens with the m43 mount for my Panasonic GH6 and it works very well. It will fit your camera just fine. Enjoy!
one might say this lens is a great option any time. if $ is a factor and you are new to the hobby, this would be a cheap tool to force you off AF.
I'm looking for an affordable ultra wide to use in my Twitch stream. The iPhone Pro's ultra wide is still a bit too narrow since im sitting behind a desk near a wall so there's no room to place the camera. Is this lens wider than the Iphone Pro's ultra wide?
Look up focal length to angle calculators and you should be able to find an answer
How is the night sky photography with this lens?
That's the main reason I ended up here also... still looking.
Is it good for vlogging?
AF lens is better for Vlog i think
better then the 12mm rokinon?
I wouldnt say so.
@@ArthurR are you comparing it to the AF or MF version, or do you think both are better than this lens? I'm mainly looking at it for astrophotography maybe 75% of the time (which takes out the f2.8 competition), and some architecture/real estate/and possibly some vlogging. (someone with a TT 10 and Rokinon 12 MF in hand debating which one he's keeping)

TThanks. TThat was good info...
Nothing comes close to this lens in its price range
5:02 american problems
Un-whatevwr 😂 seriously?😂 i love it
You say there are lots of alternatives but what are they? Not everyone shoots Sony and not everyone lives in the US. You have an international audience.
Alternatives:
1. Sony 11mm F1.8
2. Rokinon 12mm AF
3. Rokinon 12mm MF
4. Tokina 11-18mm
5. Tamron 11-20mm
6. Sigma 10-18mm
7. Laowa 9mm F2.8
8. Sony 10-20 F4 PZ
9. Meike 10mm
Those are some of the APSC options.
This channel is all about Sony E mount cameras and lenses. I dont research other mounts.
@@ArthurR All are 500+ eurodollars, how are they alternatives to 150 eurodollar lens?
@@GreySectoid Let him be. I just ordered mine. His video convinced me that I need it.

Not remarkable in any way? Did you notice the lack of linear distortion in all of your photos shown here? This is a 10mm rectilinear lens. You don't get the circular curvature you typically get with a 10mm lens. You basically missed the whole point of this lens. Also, there are new people entering the lens market every day--so it not a lens that is late to the market.
Too late for you you fido dido😂 lots of new photographers or photographers switching to Fujifilm
This is my take away also, too late for the reviewer. Or he is just out of touch of reality that he is reviewing for others not for him.
