There were a number of 'push ins' that occurred in our area. Usually they would choose the home of an senior citizen, knock on the door and when it was opened they would rush in with several people to rob the home and usually beat the homeowner. There is no reason to ever open the door to a stranger.

    Very timely info.
In a suburb north of Detroit two men posed as workers investigating a gas leak. They targeted an older couple who owned a local business. They came at 10 pm and knocked; the couple refused to open the door. But they came back the next night and this time the door was opened. As a result the husband was killed. Tragically avoidable. Btw both men have been arrested.

I’ve heard a similar story about “asking for water”, and if a person thinks about that request, it would seem to be an obviously bogus request unless the homeowner lives in the middle of a desert, lol. Someone asked for water from a friend of mine also, and she knew it wasn’t normal. Water isn’t usually that hard to come by. I have had people ask if they can use the restroom, and I only say yes if I’m 100% sure they are safe to let in. But people should beware of that request too.
I was at a grocery store in South Burlington, VT, and I noticed someone watching as I left with a big cart of groceries. I stayed aware, and made sure I wasn’t being followed after leaving. Also, it’s important to watch 360 degrees while loading groceries into the car.

I live in a remote , rural area. In the last 3 weeks, i have had 2 groups of people come up to my driveway and stand near my cars. The first one was on foot and stood in front of my cars. I came out of the house with my 50lb not friendly dog and my pew pew- did not brandish it. , he turned around quickly and left. I followed him for a few hundred feet and he took off to a side road.
The second group asked me if I wanted to sell any of my cars. I told them no and they should check Facebook market place if they were car hunting. I let them know that driving down a remote road in the mountains was not normal behavior. They gave me the excuse that their GPS brought them to our road. I then informed them to leave and get off of my property. i think it helped that my 50 lb not friendly dog was staring them down. They quickly got in their car and left.

@@churchofpos2279 scary situations! ... I had an experience years ago where two men walked right into my yard, next to the windows of my home. I let my 75 pound shepherd wolf mix out and told him, "Watch em" Thor ran out and snarled at the men. One man stood totally still so Thor fixed his attention on the one who was scared and jumping up and down screaming "Oh sh__! Oh sh__! .. with every jump he made, Thor leapt up snarling. He never touched him, I knew he wouldn't, so I took my time walking to my dog to take his collar... "That's what the beware of dog signs are for" I told them... They got the message. ... I had also taught Thor to growl on command from a distance, with a simple hand signal. This came in very handy one time when I was being threatened by someone. Good on you for having your dog with you in those situations. They are not only our best friends, but our protectors as well.

I had noticed 2 guys were following me and getting closer. Obviously, I was a target so I quickly started a conversation with a man headed in an opposite direction and I tagged along with him. In passing, I looked the two following me square in the face, and they just stared at me, giving me the chills.

When I was in junior high, a well known bully started picking on me in front of his friends after a big football game. I walked away toward my bus and I heard him running toward me. Luckily the sun was in my favor and when I saw his shadow approaching me, I turned and took him straight to the ground. He was completely caught off guard. I proceeded to mount him then pound his face with all my might. He screamed like a girl! I then got up and started walking toward my bus. He jumped up humiliated, ripped off his coat and run toward me again, so I repeated the same thing, but did not stop until a teacher and several students pulled me off his sorry ass. The teacher saw the whole thing and told the principal. Apparently his parents came to see him and they wanted to have me suspended because the kids face was swollen and battered. The principal apparently told them to pack sand!😂 The kid never made eye contact with me after that and he lost status with most of his buddies who egged him on in the first place.
I agree, using the environment like I did the sun and listening to him approaching, then controlling my anger until the last moment, helped me catch this dude off guard. He was bigger and stronger than me until I got him to the ground. However, I was luck his friends did not jump in. I was aware of them though while this all was going down and was ready to run if they did jump in. I’m glad they didn’t though.😊

I like that you look like an average guy, sort of the perfect “gray man” and yet you have all these years of martial arts experience. Like a wolf in sheep’s clothing. There are also older men (and maybe some women) who are masters of martial arts, never judge a person by their physical appearance, especially age and physique. Yeah when people come knocking, I usually keep bear spray, a baseball bat, and a few more lethal deterrents. I rarely ever open the door unless they identify themselves and I or my family recognize them. It’s happened a few times when criminal types have tried to get into our home and in both cases they were confronted by my local police, some were arrested for casing our neighborhood.

It doesn’t have to be lingering, I do too, I learned a self defense technique, let’s say you’re walking from a parking lot to a building, and you hear footsteps coming close you you, turn around, make eye contact, while squaring your shoulders (look alert and less easy to attack) nod, as if your acknowledging their existence, it lets them know you see them. It actually happened to me about 10 years after learning that. I was at the mall, I had accidentally cut someone off on the road going into the mall parking lot, I even did the “I’m so sorry” face and waved, it was truly unintentional. I wasn’t familiar with the mall so I had to drive around about 1/2 way to find the entrance I needed. I parked, and as I was walking towards the building I heard a man’s heavy footsteps advancing on me. There were two men a father and teenage son about 50 feet ahead of me, so I did the head turn, eye contact, and nod, then I walked faster to catch up with the father & son, I walked right in between them and looped my arm around the dads, he was probably in his 40’s, and I quickly said, can I walk with you he’s following me?! They both turned around and that man stopped in his tracks, it was then I noticed he had a stick or something in his hands. They guys got me in and insisted I find security, they called the cops and I was escorted back to my car. Gratefully the man didn’t damage my car, or me for that matter. That was 30 years ago, the Preston Wood Mall in Dallas is long gone and a Walmart shopping ctr now lol. But just practice a little when you’re out, or even driving, when I’m in a turn lane, and other cars are turning past me from my right, as they pass I look at some of them. I’m on the spectrum, and also ADHD, and it’s really uncomfortable for me, but I can fake it, actually I might actually be looking at their eye brows or forehead in non aggressive situations lol. My dad taught me that lol

One thing I don't like about open plan housing design, and glass fronted front doors, is that from the doorway, usually, someone looking in can see where everything and everyone is. It's a terrible design for folks who live alone, or in isolation, like apartments. Not just far out in the country, far from all assistance. We usually have most doors in the house open when not expecting drama, and from that front door, people can see in everywhere. Quick clock around, and you're toast.

I went outside to see what the shouting was about; pulled to the point of ripping his shirt off his tattooed body to stop him from beating on my manager, and this big buff black guy used the v strike on me, lifting me off the ground; so a female retail worker at a software store defending her co worker deserved this? He could have killed me? The ex con got a fresh shirt out of the trunk of the car. When the cop arrived he was all sympathetic to the guy that assaulted us working class stiff. To the cop, ex prisoners mattered more than we tax paying fools! The harsher irony is my manager was ex military, marines yet no one but me had her back.

Look at them and tell them what they are. If it escalates, better to be carried by 6 than judged by 12, I say.

If they in need of water they would have been grateful for you offering the water hose. Same information holds true for teaching girls / women how to handle perverts or aggressive men.

Have a window that's hear the door and talk to people from the window. I have to anyway because my dogs go nuts when anyone knocks. I worry about women who wear big beautiful rings. Besides being too ostentatious it's just not smart. Same for Rolex and other displays of wealth. Use common sense...imagine you are a broke kid with a habit and how tempting such flaunting is. Many with habits are from well to do families and wear nice clothes...they are hiding it from their families....you can't tell much from the outsides of people.

Your may be right for someone that is well coordinated, those of you that are like me and have no ability to fight will just get the s**it knocked out of you. My reflexes are way to slow. Good advice for the others.

Honestly, what was described here, 3 men on your property, way out in the middle of nowhere, didn't you do more about it?
Seems like they could be "repeat offenders".
