    This is misleading. Sooooooo ...
    1) You have to have the right credit card, specifically one that has primary coverage. Most cards that offer coverage only offer secondary which comes after anything that is not covered by your insurance.
    2) Call your insurance rep. Unless you have insurance for your personal vehicle and not just liability you most likely won't be covered. Or in situations where you own a corolla and are renting a minivan or suv, your insurance might only cover up to the same comparable vehicle you have.
In addition he does not mention Loss of Use which insurance rarely covers. Loss of use is basically the daily charge that the rental company adds for every day the vehicle is in the repair shop.
    Read the fine print....

I’ve seen about 10-15 customers over the years that have been royally screwed by thinking their credit card covers them on a rental car. Turns out actually getting them to cover it vs saying they will is a huge difference. Anywhere from 80-95 percent of the claims filed to credit card company’s are denied due to the fact that they will find a way to say you broke the contract(for example if at all you drove on a gravel road, could even be construction on a major highway and they would void the coverage) best advice actually find out what they do cover and what they don’t cover. Just bc a commercial says your good doesn’t mean it’s always true.

Our damage waiver (depending on locations) is $30/day for cars and $35/day for premium vehicles and SUVS. DW is voided if an unauthorized person was driving the vehicle and wrecked, driving under the influence, if you were arrested, or if you were negligent. Roadside Assistance covers your basic needs and covers if you lose the keys. Supplemental Liability covers if you hit someone or their property up to $300,000 in damages and even death possibly. Personal Effects Coverage covers if someone breaks into the vehicle and steals your personal belongings when you’re in or away from the rental. We don’t scam you. It’s entirely up to you whether or not you chose to go through us to protect the vehicle for you.

If you take cdw and there’s damage they won’t go after your insurance company so your insurance rates won’t go up for a claim . Also in many cases the credit card company won’t make a decision on payment till they have someone inspect the vehicle . So in the mean time you are getting the rack rate added to potential total . Many CC try to deny the claim . Courts tend to agree with documented details . At most airports there’s tons of cameras that are videoing the car before you leave the facility and there’s even cameras recording your return to facility.

Even if your credit card has insurance, you the rental company will still charge you and you have to wait for the reimbursement from the credit card company. Personally thats too much of a hassle for me so i’d opt for the zero liability coverage.

    • @juliogonzo2718

Yup 100% not going to end well if that happend. Don't lend your personal vehicle to someone who doesn't have a vehicle and insurance policy with full coverage of their own either. Say I don't have a policy and I borrow your car and wreck it in an at fault collision, your insurance will cover it and you will have to pay your deductible. If I have a policy with full coverage and I borrow someone's vehicle and wreck it my policy covers their vehicle.

It's best to have peace of mind, just pay for the extra coverage. It's like trying to save $20 on a connection flight instead of flying direct then ended up wasting your whole day, not worth it.

You didn’t mention loss of use and liability insurance, most cards if not all do not have that. Basically check with your insurance on these. Also if this is a business rental will your personal ins cover? What about vehicles larger than 8 passenger? Those transit 12 pax are popular with large groups. Cards don’t cover them. Better be safe than sorry.

Car insurance doesn’t cover rental cars lol. The rental car coverage you pay for on your policy is if you’re in an accident and you need a rental because of said accident.
99% of credit card coverage only goes into effect after you’ve expended your liability of your auto insurance policy.

Not quite. AMEX card has the option for premium rental coverage, which works as a primary insurance only for $19 per rental period vs $40 per day they ask at rentals.

    Always get the rental insurance

  • @jcmphreek
    @jcmphreek 10 месяцев назад

Not good advice. Primary goes to your insurance and card acts as a secondary but it’s not end all be all. Still have to file a claim, premiums still likely go up and any kind of towing charging 99% of the time would not be covered. Not to mention that insurance policies and credit card can vary greatly, so exactly what’s covered and what type of vehicle you were driving could lead to minimal help from insurance. Always take the rental insurance if you can afford it but stick with your own liability and other stuff

  • @Wolfofthenightt

How much will your insurance cover though? If you drive into someone’s Mercedes Benz and it costs 50,000 in repairs.
Then your insurance only covers 30,000 your screwed then.
