It's SO dangerous when a man schooled in psychology, presents a case for terrible policies.
He always starts with a statement that sounds extreme left and then proposes a policy that does the opposite. It's always either that or false logic.
"We can't pretend slavery never happened!"
"Which is why we need continue glorifying the people involved"
    Or
"We can't fine someone for a law that didn't exist at the time"
"Therefore, we must still continue to honor people who did terrible things that used to be legal"
Why would no longer celebrating someone be the equivalent of a fine? They were celebrated in the times they were accepted and not now.
Not celebrating a person is not erasing history.

The comparison that Dr. Phil makes between changing school names/removing statues to changes in speed limit laws was pretty pathetic in my opinion. There are very significant and obvious legal/moral/ethical issues around the ownership of human beings that simply don't exist with speed limit laws. You can't tell me there weren't good white people that knew full well owning other humans was wrong or that many people in the future would not have less than positive views on the subject.

Try to live as justly as you could under an unjust system or 2. Toss your life on the scrap heap and give up what little power you had to live justly at all. @@joy1ess It's actually a lack of education that increases birth rates. The more educated will factor in financial costs and logistics of having a child, and won't likely have one. Poverty stricken Africa has lead to angry men not making enough to support a family so they go get drunk, rape their wives who go on to birth children, thereby compounding the problem of not being able to afford them. The more educated women are taking control of their lives, having a career or supporting their families in other ways. It's true even in America where the more educated the person, more likely they refuse to have children or will wait until they are financially stable to do it. His argument was out of line from the start, but it is a debate tactic. Not a very honorable one, to say the least. Because he stated something where we are forced to agree with him. Now that we are on agreeable terms it is easier to take this agreeable thing and compare it to something unagreeable. Now we are more likely to agree to this aswell, due to the established consensus of agreeing with the one presenting the case. It's weird to explain and I forgot how this type of argument was called again. One thing is certain though: This is a tactic to persuade not to convice.
It was never about being reasonable. It was about him trying to force us to shut up and not demand change. It would have been easy to debunk this, if David would have asked him if he would agree, that a hypothetical "A. Hitler School" should keep it's name. Because that is exactly what he is arguing for. If he is trying to play it dirty, we have to put im on the spot and challenge the fundamental idea he is arguing for.

Regarding church attendance and crime - what correlation are you talking about?
Homicide rates drastically increased in the 1960s, peaking around the 80s. Was there a sudden surge in church attendance during this time? No - it was hovering around 70%, from what I can find. But there has been a drop in church attendance over the past 20 years or so. And yet the homicide rate was already rapidly dropping from the 1990s. By 2000, homicides had already halved and reached the level they'd stay at for the next 15 years. Meanwhile, church attendance was still around 70% and hadn't dropped yet. The drop in crime happened first! And now, in the past few years, homicides have gone back up - about 40% in 8 years. That's a huge increase.
Tell me, Mr. Pakman, did church attendance suddenly increase since 2015? Or perhaps there's a stronger correlation with the BLM and "defund the police" movements which protect criminals and make things harder for the police?
Also, I love how David shares Dr. Phil's links but not without a few unnecessary comments. Instead of letting us decide for ourselves, he has to minimise each one. What stands out to me is that leftists can give speeches at universities constantly, while conservatives like Ben Shapiro need armed security and often get disrupted by loud protesters. Is Pakman really denying this?

  • @HelloSquiggles
    @HelloSquiggles 2 месяца назад

I appreciate you actually sharing the articles in the description. Too often on the news channels a host will cite and article and then not provide a link to allow the view to gauge the full context for themselves. Even though they weren't necessarily your points, it allows the viewer to go and verify the arguments from Dr. Phil for themselves.
I think one of the greatest fallacies of debate within our culture is that we have access to cite our points at any given moment, yet somehow always come up short. It promotes a cycle of opinionated bashing or what-abou-isms.

I wish people would focus less on whether someone is right or left and rather keep it on the topics and debate solutions. Don't cancel someone just because of a label. Listen and see if they have any golden nugget ideas and discuss why or why not they may work and then share your solutions and discuss why or why not they might work. Learn from each other and work together for win-win solutions where possible. This is one of the great America ideas I grew up being taught. Never to cancel or stonewall someone. Rather, seek to understand even when you don't agree. Let's teach our children to have those kinds of hearts when it comes to sharing ideas and personal beliefs. That is far more productive and edifying than choosing sides and refusing to listen anymore. Thanks for being one of those people to ask genuine questions and listen to his answers whether you agreed or not!

@@billybobthornton9668 Yes, the Catholic church has been in bed with many hideous dictators and corrupt politics for centuries, and the church's despicable handling of sexual predators in its clergy is a very modern atrocity. Having a more liberal pope doesn't erase that or make up for the offenses.

Religion, at its heart, is authoritarian. Can’t get much more authoritarian than mindlessly obeying an invisible god…

Packman is disingenuous in all he does and this was a beautiful example of how out of touch and nuts he is.

That's a bland (and misspelled) ad hominem attack, but you didn't give one single example of anything with which you would quarrel. I think, in fact, your comment would be a far better example of disingenuousness for that reason.

Hardly. He just let "Dr" Phil hang himself. How is that disingenuous? Can you provide any examples of what you are referring to exactly?

Explain...he asked questions and gave Dr. Phool every chance to explain his hypocrisy...you just like most republicans just can't handle the truth and that's from an independents P.O.V.
