    but for mid-1995 when it was released it was also a little bit unique as there were not many 3D Third-Person perspective games back then, it was one of the first. Sure, the levels seems rigid and empty, and the controls are stiff, but for that time it was good.
    The game takes place 50 years after Flashback. After destroying the Morph's base at the end of Flashback and 50 years of cryo-sleep and drifting through space, Conrad Hart is found by the Morphs and imprisoned in the Lunar prison of New Alcatraz. There, he is rescued by John O'Conner, a leader of the resistance movement. And it's all action from that point, no pauses, nothing. For a man that has been sleeping for 50 years you'd think they would cut him some slack.
    I think this game deserve a time stamp for all the levels. Your energy bar goes up whenever you begin a new level, but you can't really tell when a level ends and when a new one begins. The first few levels are 15+ minutes long or so, the others are sometimes less than 5 minutes long. It's weird. Also the reason why I haven't visited all the rooms is that often they are traps or there is nothing in them.
    00:04:47 Level 01 - The Prison
    00:23:56 Level 02 - Morph Base
    00:41:32 Level 03 - Mars Mining Facility
    00:54:37 Level 04 - Venus Space Station
    01:06:36 Level 05 - The Pyramid
    01:26:07 Level 06 - Landing Pad
    01:27:00 Level 07 - Underground
    01:31:49 Level 08 - Morph Mothership
    01:40:40 Level 09 - Earth Base: Command Room
    01:47:07 Level 10 - Earth Base: Dormitory
    01:51:39 Level 11 - Reactor Room
    01:56:09 Level 12 - The Master Brain -

    I remember being blown away by the 3D back them. And the CGI intro, the voice acting, and all around production values. It was an excellent game.

    • @armorvil
      @armorvil 9 месяцев назад +2

      I don't lol. Even back then the graphics were widely considered ugly, and both the combat and controls were awful. Combined with the bad story, I can tell you only those wearing rose-tinted goggles like you consider this an "excellent" game. It's always been a pretty bad game. So let's all thank the creator of this video for playing it to completion so we don't have to!

    I came here looking because I got stuck at 10:16, because they kept respawning. Funny thing is, when this was just released and I was younger, I didn't have trouble finding the solution and actually finished the game without help.
    Also the cook had me too. I remembered from in the past that it was an enemy. So now I shot him without a doubt. Just forgot you had to wait until he opened the door 😬.

    Horrendous sequel to one of the best games ever made. I remember being so hype for this back in 95' - unfortunately Delphine went down the 3D road like a lot of game developers did back then. This has aged horribly....Flashback still looks great today. They should have created a true sequel to Flashback - in the style of the Oddworld series or Heart Of Darkness.

    • @alexandruescu1207
      @alexandruescu1207 3 года назад +2

      Delphine Software bit off more than they could chew - due to technical limitations of PS1. The original RE build apparently looked like this. However, Fade to Black would prob be amazing on current gen hardware. That’s a remake I’d love.

    I never was any good at Flashback or Fade to Black, but I was intrigued by them. To be honest, the dramatic/emotional main theme from Flashback was what drew me in. Watching the full story after several decades feels like a long-awaited climax. Thanks so much for posting!
    Is it just me, or does Conrad take orders from pretty much everybody in this game? And how rude is it to teleport someone into hostile territory without letting them know ahead of time? "Oh yeah, you may have noticed that you're not safely back at our base, but that's because we want you to go ahead with your next mission. Rest is overrated anyway and you appear to be alive despite your complete radio silence, so no biggie, right?"

    This is a fine piece of nostalgia for me, one of my first Playstation games, and after I have indeed played Flashback. However, I will say that there are a number of times you are VERY lucky, as the instant death ticket can be punched QUITE ALOT in this game. There were several times you were lucky that a Morph didn't melt you or a Spider Drone didn't instantly crush you. The Warden usually shoots first, as well, hence why I always used a bouncing mine to get 'im.

    • @FalloutJack
      @FalloutJack 2 дня назад

      I had some difficulty, at first, but that's partly due to a little of the early day 3D clunkiness and also because it was one of my first Playstation games, and none of the others were FPS or TPS, except Twisted Metal. It's better than Resident Evil tank controls, but less refined than the Playstation Duke Nukem games. As you can see, navigating particular ground tiles perfectly is still a chore, but in fairness...Flashback was a bit like that itself. Character placement for every move was very important. One thing our friend here is not taking as much advantage of here is the side-step against attacks to conserve shield energy. That's usually mapped to the shoulder buttons, and I think this game had the 180-quickturn button, as well. You could rearrange all the buttons, of course, and even make the R2 button your trigger finger like they do more often these days. Basically, console controls are always great for less-complicated games that don't need massive button mapping.

    Didn't have much love for this back in the day because it was too different from Flashback, but wow it is ahead of its time. Most of the top games of this era were stuck with tank controls but this has got a smooth 3rd person view similar to Dino Crisis that came much later.

    this game was amazing... but i worry it would be less scary and not as intense if it had decent controls (a bit like resident evil)

    Wait! Slow down I'm an old man! (X 500 times). I was shocked the first time I saw how dated the graphics were yet the cutscenes were revolutionary for its time. You can really see the progression of EA games over the years...

    *PS1. The PSX is another console released only in Japan.

    • @FalloutJack

      They were all called PSX for short before there was any indication of there being a second Playstation console.

    • @boilerhousegarage
      @boilerhousegarage 2 дня назад

      Not really. "PSX" was a codename for the system hardware usually followed by a string of numbers (and was sometimes used on some cheap 3rd party hardware where they didn't want to risk having a trademarked name on the packaging) however nobody ever referred to the PlayStation as "the PSX" when it was contemporary. It wasn't on adverts, in magazines, nor spoken slang. Calling it that since an actual Sony PSX console does exist is just spastic.

      @@boilerhousegarage I heard it from Game Players Magazine. PS One didn't start as a common phrase until the slightly-smaller-and-whiter version was literally called this. All the gray boys were either 'The Sony Playstation' or 'PSX'. The origin of the term isn't the point. People did it, myself among them. (Basically, I didn't pick this whole from cloth. I never investigated anything in Japan or the Playstation's actual hardware, so the only way for me to come up with the term is for it to be fairly commonplace when I was growing up..)

    • @boilerhousegarage
      @boilerhousegarage День назад

      Yeah, well I'll try and find reference to it from Game Player's Magazine (not heard of that to be honest) as anyone who has ever claimed to have referred to the PlayStation as "the PSX" between 1995-2000 has so far not been able to show a magazine article, advert or anything to prove it was a widely used term-in fact many who claim that were still kids or even infants at the time.
      I remember obessively anticipating the launch, collecting every promotional item, buying a launch model then the later revised system in a value pack, had subscriptions to 3 magazines including the Official UK PlayStation Magazine and nowhere was it ever referred to as "PSX" in print or person. Now, I appreciate it's not impossible for certain regions or spaces to not have done, but still my point stands, it's a dumb thing to call it since there is a PSX.. and it's a different console!

      It's an American magazine. I've flicked through 3 PDFs of 1995 issues and it mentions "Sony" and "PlayStation," but no "psx" as yet. I think young people are experiencing the Mandela effect, but I'll keep hunting. It stands for Play Station eXperimental, which makes even less sense to call it that.
