Poor Vogel Rok, so misunderstood in most these reactions. It's a story from Arabian One Thousand and One (1001) Nights... were you snatched up in the night desert by a giant bird name Rok (the one outside), who bring you to his nest to feed it young. In this dark ride you're supposed to be hanging in it's talons while it soars through the night sky to its nest while passing some sceneries along the way. I really like ride it's different the cool air rushes past you as enjoy the scenery.. before getting eaten by Rok's chicks, lol.

I always find it so amusing when people say they didn't understand Fata Morgana because they don't speak Dutch. There is maybe 2 words of Dutch in that ride, and it's the stereotypical 'tourist trap' phrase. The language is mostly Arabic.
Efteling rides in general (especially in the 80s and 90s) do not have real stories with a plot, rather they just have 'vibes'. Droomvlucht, Fata Morgana, Symbolica and the now demolished Spookslot all follow that design principle that was mastered by Efteling lead-designer Ton van de Ven.
To me, this is preferable to i.e. Disney's approach, where you need much more text to follow along which is not good for small children or international visitors.

Wait.... no story??? All Efteling attractions have a story to them of some sorts, most of them are based on fairy tales from around the world. This includes Fata Morgana.
Spookslot being demolished is a crime against the Dutch if Im honest..

    • @freonxkipper
      @freonxkipper 11 месяцев назад +4

I've been working as an architectural engineer in the 80's. Maybe the "working titles" of the ride explain it all. "Fata Morgana" was just called "The Arab Show" and for instance "Het Land van Laaf." was called "Funny Village" and that's just what it is, a funny village with funny inhabitants. Off course there is a kind of fairy-tale theme,: "Laven, a Nordic Folk crawled through the earth and came to surface in the Efteling, where they had their community, with a babycare-centre managed by mother Lot, A kind of religion building, a bakery, a brewery (and when it opened a pub with genuine beer) a school and a ropers-lodge (On ropes across the pond). But a lot of funny folies in Funny Village where to stimulate taking photographs (before the digital era). All over the playground, where children could stick their heads through a hole in a wall or wave to their parents from e window in a folie there were signs put up "This is a KODAK foto-moment" And in every giftshop or food-kiosk you could purchase spare film. And still that is the main purpose, creating a great memory.

1:05:05 This is the most beautiful and emotional story of them all: Little Match Girl. Th narration is all in rhyme. And in the end when she finally dies in the cold, the spirit of her grandmother comes pick her up, and she no longer has to be cold.

Funfact: in the early days of the Efteling, the builders were encouraged to have 2 shots of jenever before work and right-handed masons had to work left-handed and vice versa, as to ensure that their work wasn't to smooth and would resemble ancient buildings more.

Dutch person here and I absolutely loved your video! Efteling is my happiest place on Earth and it's just so lovely to see the enjoyment and magic of the place through someone else's eyes.
What I've always loved about Efteling is the combination of music and the attention to detail in every nook and cranny. It makes it feel like a truly out-of-this-world fairytale place and I'm glad the three of you got to enjoy it that way, too.
I also subscribed to you, because I absolutely adore the idea of going on a rollercoaster trip!
Thanks so much for the video; it brought a smile to my face and a tear to my eye to remember all of my visits through the years, and if you ever do make it back to the Efteling, do try to visit Villa Volta, because that's one awesome ride that you missed and deserves a visit.
Also, btw, I'm impressed with your Dutch pronunciation. Keep it up! Who knows? You may just bag that hot Dutch guy. (I hope you don't think me too forward, but Dutch people are very direct and open-minded, so please don't take it as an insult!).

Fun fact: The entrance also has its own fairytale! It is called the house of the five senses. It was written especially for the entrance. (I am writing this from memory so correct me if im wrong.
"In a kingdom, a king had 5 sons and a daughter. The five sons each had a strongly developed sense. When the king died the sons got very sad. The kingdom itself also went into a deppresive state. Their younger sister wanted to fix this. She told her brother they had to step up and use their senses to cheer up the kingdom! They listened and used their senses. One saw a bright future. One listened to the people in their kingdom. One tasted all the spices, so everyone had a tasty meal. One could feel when the winter was coming. One could smell when the crops where ready for harvesting. The people in the kingdom were so thankful they build a house for the 5 sons to live in. The house of the five senses!"

I haven't waatched more than a few minutes yet, so I don't know if you mention it at some point, but the whole idea of the Efteling is that it's fairytales and folklore. Every. Single. Ride, location etc, all have a story that ties in with existing (Dutch) fairytales and/or folklore. Sometimes they make it really obvious by having an audio story read out before you go on the ride, other times it's in wall paint or decoration along the sides of the waiting line, or it's on signs next to the spot.
Also, you guys mentioned the lockers, for any theme parks or museums, lockers are either free or you get the money back once you leave.
The Fairytale Forest is actually one of the first things that got built in the park! It started as a playground, then they added in "Het Land van Laaf" or "Land of Laaf" and the Fairytale Forest. The park basically developed from the street out and away, until they hit the edge and started developing and improving within the park.
I don't know if you guys realized it, but all the music from Aquanura are songs from the park.

Glad to see you noticed and appreciated all the theming of the rollercoasters too.
The witte wieven (those ghost ladies) at Baron 1989 are warning you TWICE not to go into the mine. They will sabotage your descent, they sing that while you're in the train (?) already 😂 just to make you scared for the ride.
When I was a kid the dragon reacting to you touching his treasure scared me, and some parts in Fata Morgana too 😂

The fairy tails Forrest is how the Efteling started. Unfortunately most kids and adults nowadays don’t know many of the tails from Hans Christiaan Anderson and the Grimm brothers. It’s how I remember Efteling frome about 50 years ago , when I was a child 😜. It’s funny, because the voices of the fairy tail Forrest seem to me the same as in those days.( almost 50 years ago) I am happy that Efteling developed through time, but also kept its magical and green park appearance. Sooo much better than the all concrete theme parks like Disney land Paris. I have visited it many times since I was young and I enjoyed every minute of it. And it is still the themapark pride of the Netherlands and more even to the people in Brabant, which is the province where the Efteling is located.

Efteling is simply fantastic, although I have to drive more than 500 km vv I have an annual pass, whenever the walls of my house close down on me I simply go to Efteling and reload with positive vibes and energy! I watched Jeff's vlog and subscribed, I also subscribed with you. Maybe we will meet some day, thumbs up from The Netherlands!

@@viderethevaccinatorfromhol7536 lol, I wrote 500 km vv (vice versa), I live in the most north of The Netherlands (Groningen), that means from where I live it is almost a 3 hours ride by car to get there and almost 3 hours back 🙂Nevertheless, it is worth it, in fact, I am going with my oldest son next saturday to the park (11th of november). Everything in the park is already prepared for the winter Efteling, which means that you can do Baron, The Flying Dutchman and Python in the dark while the rest of the park is beautifully lit! They even build a complete (and BIG) hall where you can go ice-skating as well. Probably it will be cold, but hey, already made reservations for pancakes at 4.30 PM, so we will survive!! For your information, Joris and the Dragon is closed now for 6 months due to re-tracking and strenghten the weak spots, also Piranha is closed till the end of june 2024 (was already closed every winter), it will have a complete make-over! You didn't do Piranha, which is a shame, because it is loads of fun, and when it is 30 degrees Celsius in The Netherlands you will enjoy a good cooling down, trust me!

a coin pooping donkey existed in the fairy tale park (Märchengarten) in my home town in South Germany. Once luckily when I was already older I watched a staff member refill the donkey, a few families were already waiting impatiently. He lifted the tail removed a massive metal pipe (at least 1m long) out of the donkeys rectum. He then placed a replacement pipe filled with golden chocolate coins into the donkey. The children didn't care too much and were excited to get their go at catching a coin, but you could see their parents irritated reactions

Stick shift is the main car transmision in Europe. Automatic is fancy and much more expencive.
If you rent a car dont assume you get an automatic. You need to ask for it. Most of Europe stickshift will be the default.

At that time there was only the fairy tale forest and some basic playground rides such as a merry-go-round. The donkey "pooping" coins was already there, so was the guy with the very long neck and the giy tiding the magic carpet from the left building to the one on the right (and vice vetsa), play his flute and make the tulips come up... 👍😊

Make sure you grab a Pardoes the Jester scepter at a gift sop before you go in next year. With the scepter you can unlock all kinds of hidden events and features on the park by touching it against special pedestals all over the place. Sometimes you have to wave it around inside an listen for a sound to find a feature. A nice one is at the treasure chest themed ATM.

    • @itsdarline
      @itsdarline 11 месяцев назад

The scepter that you can buy now sadly do not have the special effects anymore. They just light up now.

@itsdarline The "special" effects are not in the scepter itself. You can use the scepter on special in different places by holding it against a little pedestal. I believe is also made a sound if pedestal was close by. There is at least one video where people actually use it.

The fairytale forest is based on stories as written by Bros Grimm & Hans Christian Andersen (few exceptions like the Indian Waterlilies' - Written by the Queen of Belgium at the time) not the Disney versions which are "filtered" to be less... "child deterrent "
Fata Morgana is an artistic impression of 1001 Arabian Nights
Vogel Rok, like Sirocco & Archipel are based on the stories of Sindbad
Droomvlucht let's you "Dream witch your eyes open" (Droomvlucht = Dream flight)
Fabula has a restaurant, but it also is (entering from the right side) 3D/4D theater (Originally build in collaboration with WNF (Wereld Natuur Fonds)/WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) to make people more aware of how we are ruining the world) When the contract ended the show and story was changed as well as the name *used to be Pandadroom (Panda dream, you'll never guess the main character..🤪)
oh, one more thing: Jokie's Wereld is the name of the souvenirshop , the ride is called Carnaval Festival (Carnaval being a festivity in the South of the Netherlands where everyone dresses up and everyone is equal (your superior might walk the streets in a nurse outfit while you might go as Satan -point being you can't see rank etc.) no, it's not like the South American version)

Fun video! Cool to see my fellow Americans in Efteling! I went to Efteling for the first time in May 2022, I was exposed to it through a dear Flemish friend of mine from Antwerp, who grew up going to this place, so he invited me there! It's also one of the closest theme parks in the Antwerp metro area. My first visit to the park entrance felt like I was walking in Willa Wonka land with the hundreds of little school children in matching t-shirts that flooded the park during the day I went. Also, I was disappointed that the roller coaster at 19:18 was closed the day I was there since it was the most thrilling ride in the place. Too bad. Also we didn't have a water/lights show like you guys, so they pulled out all the stops for you:)) ✨ I went on everything else in the video though! It's a very cute park, very family and kid friendly. It reminds me a bit of a regional, smaller-scale Disneyland mixed with Knotts Berry Farm, but of course the history of the park is older than Disneyland and has its own special theming (with the ancient fables, fairytales, elves and folklore). The parkgoers are very calm and it was a relaxing atmosphere and not overcrowded even in May with good weather. The food was tasty too and not pricey at all. I rode Python about 3 or so times back to back when the park closed! I enjoyed my time there!
