    Efteling employee here! And I justed wanted to rant
    1. Baron oddly fits the Efteling formula, we use muted blue and yellow along with dark red for all our theming.
    2. The reason Efteling is so pretty is because it is officially a nature park!
    3. The essence of Efteling is definitely nostalgia. The park is 72 years old and people have been going there for generations. You go there with your grandparents and they tell you how they had their first date there, how the park has changed since and how we actually used to have a pool. Your parents will tell you Python what the it coaster of it's time, everyone just had to go there! You would open your picture book and see everyone grow up on the toadstools. You look at Max and Moritz and the building it's in and remember how BOB would leave you beaten and bruised and how much fun it was. You walk past Vogelrok and remember it as your first coaster. We all make jokes about how no one wants to go in Pirana because you WILL get soaked, and yet we go anyway.
    4. This goes for all employees aswell. We love the park, it's our childhood. Some of the tech team today used to work with Pieck. We all grew up here and are now able to give that childhood joy to others. One guest told me "I'm sorry I'm acting like a child, it's dumb" to which I said "not at all! This is Efteling, everyone here gets to be a kid again!" We want you to feel that giddy joy and to make great memories. That's why we love our jobs and it lifts the mood of the whole park

    I am old, and was told 'bed time stories'. When I first visited the Efteling those stories came to live. I could see them while awake! The world of my childhood dreams was there. But the Efteling leaves room to fill the gaps, your own fantasy, the way you want it to be. That makes this park unique!

      Yeah, definitely! Every attraction has a story, but nowhere is it told in full. De Efteling doesn’t tell you what to think, what to feel. It gives some snippets of information and you can explore on your own, imagine your own stories around the attractions. I loved going there as a kid. It truly felt like being in a dream.

    What an amazing video. Often when i see videos of foreigners in De Efteling they always say it's a great and amazing park but i always feel they do not really feel nor understand the essence of De Efteling. They don't really understand the nostalgia Dutch people have with this park (94% of all Dutchies have been there at least once in their lifetime according to research). It is literally ingrained in the Dutch culture. But you are different, you absolutely DO understand what Efteling is about. Almost like you've been going to the park since childhood.

      @@peterhallman9614 There's multiple sources but they're in Dutch. And when i look at my personal experience in it i can definitely confirm it's true and i'm pretty sure almost all Dutchies will tell you so. In my daily life i barely meet anyone who has NOT been to Efteling. Whenever the subject Efteling comes across everybody always starts telling their nostalgic stories. The most funny thing to me on Facebook is that a lot of my Dutch friends have that one photo of themselves when they were little, or of their own children, sitting on one of the many typical red and white musical mushrooms. It's not even a tradition that's been done on purpose. It just somehow happens because to children they're so inviting to sit on. It's crazy to me that i've seen 60 year old photo's of that phenomenon and it still happens to this day. I can actually see my own photo of little me sitting on a mushroom hanging on my wall when i look to my right while typing this.

    One of the things I think that make the Efteling special too, at least for me as a child, is the slight fear factor. Especially in the older parts like the Fairytale Forest, I always felt a little fearful and on-edge in certain parts, but in a wondrous way, much like how the characters in the fairytales would feel themselves. It allows kids to face their fears and be brave in a safe way. I don’t think the Efteling tries to scare kids on purpose, but it still works as a fantastic contrast to the overly sanitized and bright, colorful, consumer-pandering feel that some other theme parks sometimes have

      "I often see a lot of people who mostly aren’t Dutch saying this park is a “scary” version of Disney" this is because a lot of foreigners (mainly Americans) are not familiar with the fairy tales. Many fairy tales in Efteling were written by the famous European writers Hans Christian Andersen, the Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault. That's probably why the misunderstanding. Plus the Efteling does not have English spoken text at some attractions because this is very difficult in addition to spoken Dutch at the same time.

    • @gladtobeangry
      @gladtobeangry 8 месяцев назад +2

      I agree. Efteling isn't a scary version of Disney. First of all because it's not scary. And secondly because it's not a version of any other park, it's entirely its own thing. It's not based around movies or cartoons or comic books, it's just based around the theme of Wonder. Which may include magic, exotic places, nostalgia, thrills, humour, beauty, anything really. All fitting within this hard to define style that keeps the whole thing together and makes it uniquely Efteling. @WorldofThrills You do "get" this park, and why it is special. Thsnk you for sharing your thoughts.

    I think the main mafic of efteling is that the immersion in fairytales (almost) never stops. queues, preshows, walking routes, everything is heavily themed. Almost everything. Droomvlucht (dreamflight) could do with a major refresh of its queue area, and Python could do with more theming on its queue.

    • @WorldofThrills
      @WorldofThrills  8 месяцев назад +1

      Idk if they could even change this, but I am disabled, I haven’t always been disabled though so I know what it’s like for both an able bodied person and a person in a wheelchair in the Efteling and going though the boring backdoors has really taken the magic out of the Efteling for me.. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the Efteling but I just wish there was as much attention to detail for the queues and waiting rooms for disabled people as for the people who are able bodied. I used to look forward to going to the Efteling cause you have magic all around you and now I just get put in these boring non-themed rooms in the back and it just sucks. At least I know a lot of the preshows and stuff from before I got my bone condition but I’m just thinking of all these people who were born disabled who will never get to experience the magic of any of the preshows. I think it’s sad, I know it’s too expensive or just impossible to make preshows available for disabled people, but the least they could do is sort of decorate these rooms and waiting areas in the theme of the ride..

    • @robinvogel5128
      @robinvogel5128 11 дней назад

      @RookieAssassin I think this is at least partially because those waiting areas are also for people with sensory issues for who the normal queues are too overwhelming. If you look for it, the waiting rooms are slightly themed, although it is definitely less than the normal queues, things like the dots on the wall in carnaval festival or the style of the building staying the same like in villa volta. Yes it is definitely less immersive, as someone who has also experienced both, and I can't speak on the waiting rooms of the rollercoaster as I haven't been in any yet since becoming disabled, but they try their best to accommodate everyone. I do hope some of the blander rooms get some extra decoration though, like some of the vines from droomvlucht being in the outside waiting area as well for example, but they can't do too much or it may become too overwhelming, which would defeat the purpose

    You truly understood and conveyed the Efteling spirit with this video. So many Dutch people grew up visiting Efteling regularly and it means so much to us. It's not just going on roller coasters or enjoying a theme park; it's immersing yourself in a magical realm of otherworldly senses. From childhood to adulthood to parenthood, the spirit of Efteling is handed down from generation to generation. I remember being mesmerized by the musical toadstools, the scary dragon, the crocodiles from Fata Morgana and the miniature world of Diorama. These and so many more are and continue to be collective core memories that live on in the Dutch people who enjoy Efteling.

For those abroad while you did a great job covering a lot of rides you are still missing some absolute bangers like Villa Volta (I really wish the intro would be in English as well (maybe two entrances?) since the story is banging (just like the music)). I also wanted to thank you for sharing such a special and quite vulnerable video, I can see how much Efteling means to you and I love the story of the airport and how you also knew how much it meant to her. just thank you for this amazing virtual tour of Efteling

    I have an anual pass for the Efteling, i got it because of the memories it gave me as a child. As someone who gets to be in this park weekly, it never gets boring. I met my most amazing friends in the Efteling community and have spend my most wonderful moments there. The ride attractions ofcourse but the music and the whole atmosphere will never fail to make me fall in love with the park all over again. As a big musical lover, the park has beautiful theatre entertainment pieces in the winter and summer seasons. Not to forget the Caro show in the Efteling theatre. For everyone outside the Netherlands who wants to visit. It’s worth everything, it truly did change my life. Wonderful video, it really captures the beauty of the Efteling.

    Great video! As a kid I used to visit Efteling once a year with my parents and being a parent myself now I've started taking my own children :) Efteling is such an important part of The Netherlands, it's the theme park we compare all others to whenever we visit them anywhere in the world. I'd say the Efteling has been doing such a consistently good job throughout the years that every other park you visit just slightly dissapoints. One thing I missed in your video though: Villa Volta. A ride that opend not long after Droomvlucht and is located right next to it. A great ride and in my opinion the best piece of (original) music in Efteling. Its seems to be left out of a lot of RUclips videos and I feel it deserves a little more love.

    When I came to Efteling this March for the first time, all the videos I had seen so far gave me the impression it was "quite a decent" park. But after 2 minutes inside the park from the hotel entrance I witnessed how they managed to turn that crappy coffee cup ride you see in pretty much every park into an amazing attraction with Sirocco. This is when I knew this is going to be an incredible experience and the park made it as one of my two favorite places in the world, even though I usually prefer more attractions which kick my ass. I was just there this weekend and I am already looking forward to the next time when the new ride is ready!

      Sirocco is the best ride upgrade in history, and I don't just mean in comparison to other parks' teacup rides. The previous theme of Sirocco was not exactly great. Now, however, it's such an amazing experience, and it fits in perfectly with Vogel Rok!

    You nailed it, although missing some details, because of language and cultural reasons, you get the essense! That's the thing.
    I totally agree: Baron 1898 is a goofball in the park, but it fits spot on. You saw the colouring patterns coming back indeed, the immersive story telling, but I can give you more details about it. The attraction is as well a tribute to late 19th and early 20th century mining in the Limburg area of the Netherlands. The building is in the 'Jugendstil/Art Nouveau' building style from that age, making buildings by the main materials of the age very visible: steel, brick and a bit of concrete. The music you hear is fanfare/harmony music. This also is really regionally bound and big in this age. The trees surrounding the queue line are all pine trees, suggesting a production forest to make mine struts and equipment. The Baron itself has a voice actor that is very famous in the Netherlands for dubbing various cartoons like several Smurfs, but most famous he is the evil Baron van Neemweggen (Baron of Rustleaways) in the kids series 'Bassie en Adriaan'. In some ways it's like the late 19th century version of him. That gives an extra layer of experience to it. The classic 'curse story' is also an Efeling favourite. The 'white women' are more than just some troublesome ghosts in Dutch culture. Coming from the east of NL, they are evilish female spirits, only coming from mist and trying to deceive you, making you lost and can terrorize you if they think you deserve it. It's a nature fighting back in this case, you aren't to take the gold from the mine. It ruins the balance of... Nature! Even in Baron 1898 this is a theme. All stuff in there was real mine equipment once from the Limburg area (and from just over the German border). It's really a job well done in that attraction. You felt it, although you missed these details, because of language and cultural gaps. It's indeed a proud member of the Efteling story telling.
    Other fun facts of the park: those steam trains were real trains once, originating from late 19th century. They were originally trains transporting clay for brick factories and other materials. The seats are made in the 50's and 60's though. The caroussel in the centre of the park is a real one from beginning 20th century. The Gavioli organ in the centre of the tent is without doubt the most precious thing in the whole park. It brings you back to the carnival culture of these lands at the beginning of the 20th century. The diorama behind it is also worth a visit. Look well there, references to Piecks drawings everywhere.
    It's a bit sad you couldn't make footage of the Spookslot anymore. I'm sure you would have loved to do so. That attraction was the bridge from regional famous playground and leisure park, to national and international famous theme park. Look it up on youtube, I'm sure you will get 'begeesterd😉'.
    Hopefully next time you will experience 'Droomvlucht' with renewed effects and toally renovated. And please, if your Dutch improves, take a good notice of Villa Volta as well. It's such a pearl in the park. It works only better if you understand the story as well.
    Welcome to the Efteling cult, my friend. The Dutch will always respect you for that. Thank you for the tribute!

      @WorldofThrills  8 месяцев назад +1

      Now this is the kind of comment I love!
      I actually had no idea about the story of baron being so intertwined with Dutch folklore! And the fact they use the same voice actor for the Baron himself is so coool!
      I’m definitely going to have to tell everyone in the UK to read this comment before they head to Efteling as occasionally I see a comment about the story of Baron being confusing to non-Dutch speakers. But you’ve explained it beautifully! So thank you!!
      I didn’t feature most other rides in this video as to keep the run-time down and only focus on the ones that REALLY stood out to me. But don’t worry, we spent 2 days uncovering every little detail of the park! Villa Volta and Vogel Rock are the only 2 attractions that were closed for my visit, but I’m sure I will ride them next time!
      As for Spookslot, I luckily got to experience it in 2022, and a friend of mine has an 8K video of the whole show! I love how the music is playing a huge part in the new Danse Macabre attraction, especially the name 😉
      Dank je wel for your comment, I love learning all I can about this enchanting place!

But with that said i think alot of these stories in The sprookjes bos are more sophisticated then we could even imagine as a kid thats why whenever i goto the efteling i still to this day find out new things within these stories and some life lessons even. its about getting to know these stories that makes you look at them different and you really start to realize these stories were made to amuse kids but also are there for adults to understand. its a unlike any other park anywhere which makes it so beautiful. i realize the older i get the more i love that park. Wow this was a loving tribute to the Efteling, you caught the charm and feeling many of us dutchies and especially Brabanders have about this place.
    One thing that stands out to me about the Efteling is that it feels like everything is/was made by real people trying to tell real impacting stories. Your Disney's and universals of the world while yes being absolutely beautiful feel corporate to me. And the Efteling doesn't have that, while still being a massive park.
    You touched on the music a little in this video, but that's also another massive part about this wonderful park. It's iconic and written by again real people and not companies like IMA-score, which music can blend into another even between parks. Sadly the composer of Fata Morgana, Villa Volta, Droomvlucht and more has passed away this year, you will always be remembered Ruud Bos just by your legendary scores alone. (Also if your dutch and you haven't listened to the tribute episode for Ruud from ochtend in pretparkland go do so)
    The history of this park is massive, luckily some people made the Efteling wiki also known as eftepedia. Well worth a look!
    And as a little sendoff, here is a little secret about De Vliegende Hollander. You can turn off the front lantern if your sitting on the back row, there is a button behind the seats on either side of the boat on the raised part that turns it off and on. Do with this power what you will...

    What a special video you made! To describe The Efteling feeling to a foreigner is very hard because it has to do with emotions. But you totally understand why The Efteling is so special. As an employee of The Efteling I have the honor to spend many hours every week in The Efteling and then you seem to forget how special The Efteling is. By watching your video you remind me why I love the Efteling so much and makes me even more proud to be able to work in this special magical place.

    The part about Droomvlucht made me tear up, funny enough. I've been to De Efteling at least once a year since I was a baby. It's special to me and my family. Droomvlucht is a personal comfort, a world I want to live in forever. It's gorgeous
