Have you ever dreamed of living in an exquisitely restored historic home nestled on 40 acres, and those 40 acres are nestled inside a 3500 acre nature preserve? THIS IS YOUR CHANCE! Originally part of an 18th century land grant this home sits surrounded by many of it's originally dependency buildings (kitchen, smokehouse, carriage house, dairy, original 18th century home) as well as a pond and a pool.
The history in this land is several millenia old, with Indigenous artifacts regualry oncovered on the property. Amateur (and professional) architects will have a field day here as every shovel full of dirt turned reveals exciting glimpses of the lives lived here through the centuries. A historic cemetary also exists on the site, with century old marble monuments.
The home is an Italianate marvel, designed and constructed by famed Connecticut architect Henry Austin, and contains stunning historic design elements. Marble mantel pieces, walnut banister and newel post, and elaborate plasterwork grace the home.
This home functions beautifully as a privae home that is a sanctuary or seclusion, or as it currently does as a bed and breakfast with all the guest suites located outside of the main home.

That’s a gorgeous property and the house seems so much larger on the inside than from the outside. I loved seeing the ruins of Windsor. Ever since I first learned of it (on the cover of Constance Greiff’s book ‘Lost America”) I’ve wanted to see it. What a treasure !

Stunning house and property. Watching your channel (and watching homesteader/farmer channels) tells me that if I ever start really exploring America, I'd hafta stay in the country for YEARS as there is so much to see and so much history to learn. Come to western North Carolina and tour the Biltmore House. It's exterior is to mimic French country homes of 1600s-1700s(?), but the interiror is 'state of the art' for 1890s. It's impressive. I enjoy the architecture and thought you both might as well.

Hi Laine and Kevin! Wow, wow, wow! Canemount Plantation! Now that's a very nice, fascinating place inside and out. That music in the video made me envision classical ballerinas donning regal finery leaping, lunging their arms in a right to left sway, sashaying up those stairs to the 2nd floor, and prancing from room to room, and plié-ing and spinning around throughout all of the rooms of that beautiful, exquisite, spectacular home with big smiles on their faces. That original kitchen, wine cellar, and pool house outbuilding's interior is completely breathtaking. At the first glance of the main Canemount house, I thought it had a weatherboard facade. However, Laine, once you stood by its facade to show that awesome fanning wood design on the porch floor, I realized it has a brick facade. Thank you for recognizing, respecting, and paying homage to those two graves at Canemount. I really appreciate that you and Kevin did that! As it relates to the ruins of Windsor, you can tell by the columns that that was once a magnificent house. I really enjoyed this video! Til the next time.... GOD bless!

If I were younger and had the resources I would feel so blessed to take her on as a steward. I don't belive in slavery but it is uplifting to know the family appeared to have cherished and respected the family that was enslaved there. To the point they didn't want to leave. What a wonderful property! So interesting to see the "northern" door surrounds and no pocket doors between the stair hall and the parlors. I've noticed marked differences in the room sizes in these homes, though the general layout is usually the same. A very wide central hall, huge dining room, and smaller parlors. Perhaps the quiet religious lady did not approve of dancing? I love the upgrades done with the kitchen and bathrooms in this home. Very much in keeping with the style and vintage; I always like light colored painted cabinets with a dark countertop. The old kitchen is fascinating. The wine cellar was likely once the creamery. I've seen the Windsor columns in another video. Glad to learn they will be preserved in their beautiful state of decay. Thanks for always including the bits of history and personal stories in these tours. They are a cut above. :)

Why all that brush round a nice house? Someone a chain saw? Fiwst the price: 1.6 million for a 40 acre estate is not exagerrated. Inside it is beautiful. The thing is not everyone will like this specific plantation style. I has history and for some that history will be dark. Honestly I don't like the landscaping that covers off too much the estate. I also find that well pretty dumb. I wanna see more staright architectural lines. It is tea party all over and I only drink coffee.

Oh I love it when people resort to ad hominem attacks. It’s so cute. Lemme break it down for you in small phrases you’ll understand:
-This is an architectural history channel
      - We are here to show and teach ARCHITECTURE types and terms
-We are not here to sell you real estate
-We don’t care at all what your thoughts are about a particular property, its decor, its surroundings etc
-None of your personal preferences matter to us at all
-If you are uninterested in merely learning about architecture then this channel isn’t for you
-Unless you are a serious client then neither the actual realtor nor the seller care about your opinions about their property
-As you are not a serious client then be POLITE to the seller and actual realtor and keep negative opinions to yourself.
-I shouldn’t have to tell an adult these things, but then again, most adults don’t call other adults playground names
      -you spelled straight incorrectly
