Hey there Alfie, I want to thank you for sharing this, as horrible as it is to see let alone experience, the more information people have the better.
I remember my dreaded aura. A spectral flashing light appeared in my vision before the involuntary twist started to occur prior to falling unconscious 😔 terrifying sensation. I hope you're getting all the care you need fella x

@@michaelgadsby no problem that’s exactly why I upload to educate others that didn’t know about it or what it looks like and for others in the same situation I think it definitely helps when you’ve got people in the same situation to talk to and I know what you mean the aura is by far the scariest feeling ever pure fear, panic and trying to fight off that outer body feeling and not go into one it’s deffo the hardest fight known to me and thank you for your support means the world always here if you want to talk and prayers are with you mate🙏💯💜

Im so sorry. My 18 year old son started having these when he was only 12 and they have increased. He is terrified to go to sleep. He is very depressed and often talks about suicide. All I can tell him is that he is not alone.

    • @Jen999
      @Jen999 8 месяцев назад +3

Could not stop thinking about your comment.. and your son.. will try to help a bit with our experience.. when my dear love was 15, he faced amputation of his left leg due to brittle diabetes which plagued him since birth.. we were friends since age five.. he was my friend.. in school he had a grand mal seizure brought on by stress .. the teacher told us to leave.. I would not leave my friend.. so.. she let me stay.. he had told me he was sick and what to do..
Went to hospital with him.. and stayed with him .. we married at 18 .. his biggest fear was at night like your son.. he was terrified of dying alone in the dark.. did my best to assure him he was not alone as you are doing with your son.,
You are right.. this is all we can do.. assure them they are not alone., that you are there.. saying this.. and keeping the sacred promise of being there helps.. it means everything to them..
You are helping your son each time you say this.. he needs to hear it.. no matter what he says.. he needs to know you are there.. that he is not alone..
No one understands what we who love someone more than life go through.. unless they are doing it too..
Please, love, do not think that just saying he is not alone is all you can do.. because it means the world to him.. please keep saying it.. we send our prayers and our love to you both 💜💙

Thank you for sharing this video, espacialy since it shows you in a vulnerable situtation like this. I think there should be more videos like that to show the public how a seizure realy looks like. I hope that the vidoe helps people to not me scared of people having a seizure, and hopefully giving first aid and calling and ambulance. For a first responder there is nothing to fear about a seizure, it looks scary, but it isnt. The only help a patient needs from a first responder in this case is to just clear the vicinity so the patient doesnt hurt himself.

Having a good friend or family near to comfort them and say it's going to be ok is so important.

    • @Jen999
      @Jen999 2 месяца назад +1

@@scotty28653 you are so right.. it is so important that they do not feel alone.. which is the worst feeling ever..
You will hear people say they are unaware and do not remember.. not entirely true.. in the aura state they may be aware .. just unable to communicate.. and they may be able to hear.. if their seizure is focal they may remember all of it.. or not..
For my husband.. who suffered all his life.. the aura and post ictal.. aftermath of the seizure.. were the worst times.. he was able to hear me even tho he could not see me.. he told me hearing my voice.. saying he was ok.. that I was there.. that I love him.. meant the world.. and helped him get through them.. they should NEVER be left alone in ANY stage.. especially at night..
In our case.. I slept with my husband and helped him.. and yes.. got clocked many, many times.. which he could not help.. but a black eye.. a bloody nose.. etc .. was nothing to what my sweet guy suffered.. his seizures were so severe he fractured ribs.. had several lung collapse.. and so many bruises everywhere he looked like he’d been in a car crash.. he had suffered the loss of his left leg at 15 from dead nerves and if he could not roll back from being on his face he could suffocate..
These were nocturnal seizures should have someone with them at night.. or at least be monitored.. an Apple Watch works well..
Please remember.. do not leave your loved one alone! They need you there to help them..also the timing of seizures is vital.. any over 5 minutes.. or several in a row with no rest between is a medical emergency.. they can die.. they do not breathe whilst seizing.. and need oxygen.. ER services must be called!
Know this is probably more than you asked for.. even so, epilepsy can and is fatal in some cases..
Sadly we know this too well.. a vicious series of seizures caused my dear husbands lungs to collapse and stopped his heart.. even with recovery meds the strain on his heart was too much.. he died in my arms!!!
Therefore I am passionate about keeping this from happening to others..
Knowledge is power.. the more you understand.. the better you can help..
Hope this helps a bit.. thanks fir your comment and interest💜💙🦋

This came up today .. we are watching it again.. and crying even more than the first time.. because we have come to know you.. and to love you.. since then..
You continue to fight hard.. that is what has to be done to survive..
Only like yesterday it seems .. my William and I fought together.. each aura an attack that must be countered..
Each seizure a battle that must be fought..
There is no passivity when dealing with epilepsy .. no waiting for it just to go away.. cuz that doesn’t happen..
Each time is a knock down drag out street fight.. no rules.. no playing fair..
Epilepsy is viscious.. cruel.. indomitable if you allow it to be..
The secret is you fight .. for your consciousness.. for your life.. each and every time the same..
You cannot give up.. cuz it will take you down.. if you let it..
That’s why these videos are so important Alfie.. in them you show how to fight.. no.. it is not pretty.. so hard to watch..
People need to know what we’re dealing with here.. this is war.. and war is hell..
And you fight so hard Alfie.. watching you helps those who suffer alongside you.. helps the families and love ones who suffer too..
Thank you.. over and over again.. for having the strength and courage within yourself.. to do this.. to make this videos.. to show us how to fight..
You are a hero to more than you may realize.. you are hope.. you are resilience.. you are a brave young guy standing up against a formidable enemy.. and you are a fighter who does not quit..
Thank you .. there are no words yet written that can ever thank you enough..
Even so we try.. from all of us who suffer.. and from all of us who love and care for them.. thank you Alfie..
God Bless you and your dear family..
We thank Him for the day we found this video.. you mean more to all of us than we can even say💜💙xxx

Good morning from Hungary, (I lived in Sheldon, Birmingham in the 80’s)Alfie’s seizures are exactly like I had from 1984-1998, I started getting headaches and feeling weird, then the early morning (after sleep) limb twitches started and I remember wondering what the heck was going wrong with me, I drove to work anyway thinking it was just the drink from the night before (I was a typical 18 year old)
I got to work (alpine soft drinks delivery driver), I was getting my lorry ready and the twitches continued but also I could feel the weirdness too, it was the Aura, the signal just before the actual seizure (I got to know these after a few months), that’s all I remember, I woke up in hospital, a full Tonic Clonic seizure, my first of many regular seizures
Like Alfie, they totally wipe you out, zap you if all your energy afterwards
This channel will help a lot of people that are new to epilepsy and it’s life changing condition
There wasn’t much out there back in the 80’s to help, I was confused and scared at what the doctor told me I’d got, my dad wasn’t ready to cope with it (my mom had left us)he wrote a letter to the council to give me a flat on my own, I was alone
Alfie isn’t he has the love and care from you and lots of support
Thank you on behalf of anyone that finds this channel

Dayums, that had to be exhausting and frightening. I wonder if seizures like that cause damage to any part of the brain. As a vet tech (a very long time ago), we'd encounter this in pets and it was devastating for both the pet and owners. I've not studied seizures so am pretty ignorant about them. I hope the best for you and if you don't mind, I would like to follow your story. ❤

my wife has these, but has been seizure free now for 4 years. Made me tear up a little watching this....this may sound weird for people who haven't experienced this sort of thing but this is far more traumatic for those around than the sufferer, you just need to make sure they don't bang their head or choke on vomit/saliva. My wife has no memories of her seizures. when she comes back after one she has total body muscle soreness, a bit tongue and/or mouth and a terrible headache. Initially she doesn't know anything has happened....I feel shattered for weeks after, and I'm always fearful of a recurrence even after all this time. anyway good luck to you, I hope things work out for you

The amount of sweat and stress on your body during the seizure is huge. You must be exhausted after this grand mal seizure.

Hi Alfie , How are you ! I had a question regarding the seizures . One of the dearest people in my life deals with epilepsy and it's still one of the hardest moments to watch everytime it happens . When I was a kid and something like it happened , I would just panic and don't know what to do . Now I'm a bit older , I want to help in everyway possible . So when you encounter one , does it help or comfort you if someone were beside you and supports you ? Or does it reduce the fear & anxiety that comes alongside ? Or should the person stay away until its over? I wanted to ask so I could do the right thing if it happens 🤍. Thanks and be well🙏🏻

We saw your comment and can offer our experience.. we hope it helps a bit..
Everyone is different.. asking the person beforehand always helps..
In our experience.. we had known each other since wee children.. I first helped William with a seizure when we were 5.. we had talked about it and he told me what helped him.. and I did that..
Mostly he had his at night.. by 15 we were gf/bf with plans to marry.. so I had a lot of experience helping him..
Basically you do your best to stay calm.. not easy.. and you make sure they are safe..
As William and I grew older.. his seizures worsened.. and we married .. I slept next to him on a mattress on the floor to keep him safe..
When you love the one who is suffering.. your desire to help them overcomes the fear. You learn you can do what needs to be done.. you are stronger than you think..
Hope this helps a bit.. that you cared enough to make a comment shows you care.. that’s half the battle right there.. 💜💙

My seizures start with an aura and I lose consciousness but I do not convulse. Coworkers say it just looks like I died.. Does this mean they're tonic and not clonic?

    • @alfiesepilepsychannel
      @alfiesepilepsychannel  6 месяцев назад

Sounds like the end of an aura and the start of a tonic clonic but not fully going into one tonic means your body stiffens up and you fall down and a clonic seizure is where parts of your body start to jerk and shake and possibly your whole body
