That's what I don't understand. There's a lot of valid criticism about the game, I could write a long list, but I swear - some people really think there should be enough content to keep them excited and engaged 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. No game can do that. Video games are for fun. For entertainment. If you aren't having fun, just stop playing. It's just that easy.
Let me say that after I finally reached Pinnacle cap for the first time in years and finished last and this season (except most endgame stuff because that requires me to work with other people), I said I could finally play other games or build kits. I did for a bit, but because of how my job is a huge stressor in my life and my life situation with my coming child, I find myself needing to go back to Destiny because it gives me that stress relief from the hardship of life (except Crucible, that raises my blood pressure levels like no tomorrow). No how much I want to do something else, I have to come back just to feel better about something. Like a bad addiction.
I took a 5 week break from this season, plan on coming back next week to finish stuff up but not caring so much about a few things like Guardian ranks. These breaks during 'dungeons' seasons are needed.
The almighty power of the Destiny break has kept me coming back to this game since I was 14. Weeks, months, even years between play sessions will keep you happy and healthy.
FR! I take a big break between seasons mainly because there’s some other big releases (ex. elden ring) and ut would just make me wanna come back later on because I know there’s more to do in the game
this so god damn much, I'm taking a break until final shape (despite buying the deluxe version of lightfall) and as of rn plan on playing final shape then never playing again, but thats me being burnt out as all hell from the game, give it about 8 months till final shape and I'll probably feel a lot different
Same, I’m someone with thousands of hours but massive breaks between years. I really only dig into D2 in Season 19 and I’ve played hundreds of hours and have been having a lot of fun and have had continual things to do and get every time I log on
I've went from playing 5-7 hours at a time, to now playing 1-2 hours a day to now logging on once a week. Doing this made me realise that taking a break is necessary for something you do a bunch of. We've all felt burnout, it's normal. Hope everyone is taking care of themselves!
You can break for 6 months. Destiny doesn't change. All the major pain points remain. There's not burnout. The game doesn't evolve, it's just repeats and remixes of the same 10 year old content. And people can't stop playing because the game was designed to be addictive. Stop saying take a break.
I take month or more long breaks, frequently! It's fantastic, honestly. I come back and get to remember why I love the game and fall in love with it all over again.
i come back and go.. "oh, wow, they really didnt do much.. wait this is worse then before, why cant i spam my melee slam anymore... wow f**k this game" logged off more pissed off, havnt touched this game since, and now im telling people to not play it, so done with this game.
@@Honed-so because the game no longer fits your own personal preferences you decide to shove your own bias and opinion down people’s throats and complain the game is bad but still watch content about the game you no longer play and tell people not to touch? Jesus man, go outside and find a new hobby
@@drewdeathlessYou learn to realize that you aren’t going to be lesser than everyone else in proficiency simply because you missed out on a weapon that’ll be replaced with another Meta weapon every week. What are you missing out on if the weapon you couldn’t get is just going to be overshadowed by another the next time you log in after a year away? You just go get the weapon everyone’s crazing for during the current season and boom, all caught up. The Fomo isn’t as influential to your experience as you think. Not when you can just pull out Jotunn in PvP and give people with the current Meta the middle finger. Lol Jotunn can be dodged, but it’s consistency to kill is still high.
Personally, I've never understood the ridiculous "Casual" VS "Hardcore" players, "Dad with 8 jobs and 13 kids", "Git gud" arguments that tore this community into two pieces of a much more broken whole. I have no doubt that someone will respond to my comment with some pathetic attempt at a clever comeback and that I have a "skill issue", but it is what it is. This argument will inevitably rage on no matter what is said or who says it, but hopefully this gap can be narrowed in time. I don't presume to know how, but I'm hopeful.
I do love how I can keep up with the season story because there's always some dude that records all of them onto youtube. Makes taking a couple months off a lot easier too
Can u pls say the name of the channel?im trying to recover old seasons stories and I once saw a channel but forgot the name ,so it would help knowing where to go
@@darkbehemoth333Esoterickk records seasonal storyline week by week, along with some absolutely insane solo content. There is another channel called destiny lore vault, and they mainly document the seasonal storyline, and different voicelines from the season, raids, and dungeons. Highly recommend checking either of them out if you need a refresher on the story. They both have playlists for different seasons, raids, and dungeons so it shouldn't be too hard to find what you need
I think the main issue is how bungie ties story together, if you experience the content, you’ll be rewarded through the games audio and characters. The dialogue changes depending on what you experience. People get attached to that.
Same, i stopped playing late 2021 so i'm just watching youtube videos with story recaps, and whenever they make the main DLC campaign F2P i hop on to clear it.
the problem is that because the content you buy will be removed or obsolete at some point you feel inclined to play the current content as much as possible to experience everything that youve paid for. It doesn't help at all that you fork over all the money up front for dlc that you wont know the quality of until release rather than the game being a subscription service like every other good mmo. I heven't played Destiny 2 since shadowkeep because I had this realization and always wanted to come back but couldn't get past the fact that I missed out on so much content that doesn't even exist or wouldnt be worth my time anymore. I really hope destiny 1 will get a pc port at some time in the future. I would love to play a game that I don't have to worry about removing my paid content or having an exclusive event that has a really cool set of armor that I have to put in 20 hours to earn.
I’ve always taken breaks at the mid season point it helps avoid boredom and burnout. Finish all stuff that needs to be done in the beginning of the season then try out some indie games. I’ve also this season decided to live up to my rank 11 status and be a pillar of the community by helping people with Sherpas, flawless raid runs, various other activities. It feels incredibly good to be helpful to folks who never had that help or have had a team to help doing content.
I’ve actually enjoyed playing destiny 2 this season, but the issues are certainly prevalent to any level of player. It’s about balancing games with life in any game, including destiny 2. If you want something to do in destiny, find friends, carry people, help people, find raid groups, etc. If you find an ‘end point’ then try something new. If you have nothing new to do, play another game or find a new hobby.
I love destiny, it will always be my favorite game. But it's important to take a break, especially during long downtimes during the midseason. I always have two or three other games that I play to keep things fresh.
I took a very extensive break from the last half of Defiance up to week 7 of Deep. Playing through everything now feels better to me cause I’ve hardly touched the game in a few months. Breaking is so important to having a healthy relationship with Destiny
@@dezzyboots1323 Video game addiction has been a thing for as long as I can remember. I remember there being segments on the news about it and just laughing it off, when I was younger, in middle school.. and that was all the way back in the early 2000's
@@hhasteIn addition Bungie’s business/content model is literally built as a FOMO/pseudo-gambling (RNG)/under-delivery (give people JUST ENOUGH)/ addiction type model. It is completely difference than other large developers that go with the “one shot” to give people an amazing experience and then they have to build something new or something based off, usually story wise and put it all into that project. No different than the problem with Hollywood where everything is a remake, a sequel or a soft rip off. You can tell they don’t put their all in it because they want to have 10 movies in the franchise instead of telling a clear, tight story.
I think it’s the fear of missing out and the fear of their skill deteriorating over time. It’s relevancy issue IMO. That’s why they feel the need to play consistently.
That is fair. I play Fortnite with friends sometimes.. don't really play many competitive games anymore, but man when we take a break from it for a few months and then come back? Ew. Actual garbage lmao. Missing way more shots, building weird, and general confusion for a while until I get used to the game again lol.
I've devised an almost perfect seasonal playtime schedule for myself to avoid burnout: season runs for about 10 weeks, I spend the first 2-4 weeks (usually falls around 3 weeks) of the season doing seasonal story and activities to collect the new sweet loot while also trying to get my season pass about halfway finished. I then take a break for 2-3 weeks depending on other games I'm playing and hop back into D2 to finish out the season pass and whatever story is left. The bonus of taking a break and playing later is a ton of seasonal challenges open up from previous weeks so you can blaze through pass levels while also having some content from the season leftover to play. Just my two cents on the matter, and a reminder: you don't HAVE to play Destiny 24/7, you owe this game nothing, I know the fomo can make people scramble but the current state of the game is trying to extended your total playtime week to week. Keep your mental well-being up gamers, hydrate the ever living traveler outta yourself, and keep on hunting!
@@MouLouv2 no thanks, anyone who plays video games on a schedule like that needs some serious repriotizing, dude thought more about playing video games in 3 months or than anything else in his life, like how can that be fun
Been taking a break for a few months, so looking from the outside, its hilarious and also sad to see how it seems like majority of the community genuinely despises everything about this game. Yet the very same people still force themselves to log on.
I haven’t logged on since the beginning of the season. I’m almost fighting myself to get on and not at the same time. I really want to finish the season pass and mission, but I do not want to put so much time in all at once…
A seasonal story and battle pass system, on top of the threat of sunsetting will do that to a mf. It'll also drive up FOMO purchases, so Bungie won't change a thing. They're casually monetizing Stockholm syndrome.
The reason that’s all you see is that unhappy people are a lot more likely to say something. There’s a decent number of players that like the game, including myself. I just don’t usually feel the need to talk about it because I’m busy actually playing it. All this to say, this isn’t the “majority” who are mad. It’s the loudest part of the community, not the biggest part.
Bro You are so right I have taken a big break Since forsaken actually Just came now season of the deep out of pure nostalgia , and let me tell you Getting back on the game in one of the worst times , as i can see on the community , I couldnt stop playing I currently am season rank 392 Did literally everything in the game (x3 times with all characters) meaning ALL missing campaigns ALL dungeons and ALL Raids that i havent even seen because i was not following destiny stuff And after playing SO much hours Now again I dont have anything to do except once a week buy an exotic cipher weapon from kiosk Point is The game hasnt changed Its still the same thing it was since day 1 Destiny 1 when we saw a fuckin knight and we thought it was unbeatable If you dont think about destiny daily Then take a break Come back whenever you feel like it Maybe even never But if you do, the game will be like it always was An exciting battleground where you can basically waste a lot of time for just grinding weapons and armor you will never use Then when you get the urge to touch grass Close your Pc Ps Xbox Whatever Its a loophole
I agree Although the game is literally a microtransaction hell nowadays I still love it I just quit and come back season after season Take my money and give me a good light and dark saga ending
It amazes me that we have ended up at a point where people need to even be told simple things like if you aren't enjoying a thing don't do the thing find something you enjoy
The problem sometimes comes down to value. Things like “I’ve spend $100 on this game, so I must get value out of it no matter what”. Similar to when u have food but ur full and u still eat the last bits because u don’t want to leave it coz u paid for it (and coz u respect Africa). So while me for instance I don’t enjoy the game and I’ve been getting more joy shitting on the game than actually playing it, I still play it once a week because I at the end of the day did spend $100 on this game, $10 for this season, so if I end up playing for 1 hour in the whole season, those $10 r wasted.
Lmaooo bro I just came off of my almost 7 year break, I left D1 right before Taken king came out. All I have to say is bruh WTF is going on? 😂 The community is in shambles, but the game is fun I have so much to do right now
When it comes to the seasons that are going on during the school year, my goal each week is to get the weekly story done and to get a page down on season pass completed. It’s not a long goal for the week and it’s something I can do once I get a class work down
This just further proves a lot of people need to take a break though. I took a break almost the entire year before Witch Queen and it felt amazing coming back for that whole year and into Lightfall. Now I am taking a break again and it makes the few times I dip into it feel refreshing and fun again.
Dont let the hardcore players suck the fun out of it for you man, destiny has been and will always be one of my favorite games. Ive been playing since day one of D1. Sometimes i was more hardcore than others. As long as you’re having fun nobody else’s opinion matters.
That feeling won’t last, kid You’ll get sick of the connections, bugs, rubberbanding in crucible, hackers, the constant unending grind, and complete neglect from the devs. I used to feel the same as you do now. I’ve made a ton of builds on every class, the power fantasy is easily the best I’ve ever experienced, the graphics are great. *At its core,* D2 is a phenomenal game. But it’s not maintenanced, Bungie has abandoned the game in favor of working on Marathon. I’ll be honest, like 3 weeks ago I uninstalled. I got fed up with the same old bs. Just yesterday, I reinstalled, logged on for the first time in about a month. I was immediately slammed by a harsh reminder of all the reasons why I left, and I uninstalled the same day I reinstalled it. I want D2 to be great. I’ve played when it was. Some things have gotten better, buildcrafting for sure, but the servers are falling apart. All the while, the devs have been silent or dismissive towards the community, and I just can’t bring myself to play anymore. I’m glad you’re enjoying D2, I hope I will again someday. If you read all this, do me a favor and reply to me so we can have a conversation (if you want anyway)
Don't let the guitarist guy bring you down, he's a prime example of a burnt out veteran. I have over 5k hours in the game and still think it's a great game with unparalleled gunplay, but I also recognize when it's okay to take a step away and do something else if and when the game frustrates me.
Be careful not to dismiss valid criticisms as "burnout". "Not happy? Play something else". "You're just burned out, go play something else". It's deflection. Hollywood has the same problem. "Our product is fine, it's the fans' fault!"
this is so real i think too many people only consider addiction something like an alcoholic or gambler but seriously… if you’re getting emotional online because the devs can’t make enough things for you to do… there may be a problem
Yeah, I think that's quite clear at this point. D2 has a lot of systems that get you addicted or make the game your habit. So probably a lot of people log in out of habit.
The whole “i log in just to sit in orbit or jump around tower” point that datto brings up in this video perfectly illustrates the problem. Hopefully since so many people take his opinion over anything else, this video will wake some people up to their own problem with the game.
Pretty much this. Destiny is just a shooter+rpg lite. It ain't that deep, and it doesn't have that much content. And that's fine. Play other games. Anyone who feels COMEPELLED to consume every piece of content in a game like its a job has a problem and needs to work on themselves.
@@rampagegamingg8434RUclips has all the stories with additional content and more details, if you really care about the story you can very safely take a break and your favorite lore RUclipsr will have your back
@@rampagegamingg8434 bro I came back after 6 season break legit idk what you're saying about FOMO like I thought it'd be hard to get back but it isn't since you just need somewhat decent armour stats and half decent weapons (for PvE at least) like Im starting to do lowmans and even for that you don't need perfect rolls, you just need to know the raid and not suck maybe I could see this argument before because of the warmind and fond mods but now not at all
stop defending the state of live services games... these companies havent innovated for years (in fact they are not incentivized to change because people are ok with mediocrity), and the fact that there are people out there saying, "its my job to play shitty games" is actually hilarious... good luck getting them to change their formula. even as a casual gamer, if a company is telling me to not play their live service game a month and a half in, makes me raise my eyebrows knowing i paid $70-$100 for it.
I always tend to take a 1-3 month break before any major expansion drops depending on how good/bad the content is, and I don't even really play that much content. Taking a break always refreshes me and makes me more hyped for the expansion since I haven't been around any of that content for awhile. People just need to realise you can play other games if you aren't enjoying one and that goes for every game not just Destiny, nobody is forcing you to play it and you'll probably have a better time on other games.
It’s always so nice seeing you say exactly what I’ve been telling and pleading with people about, my circle would listen to you, but never me when I said the same things Thank you for helping my friends 😊
That's why I only told my clanmates because they're the closes to me and they do. Other people wont bother because they're to blinded or Stockholm syndrome tbh.
As someone who takes a season and a half long break every year of Destiny, it always feels great coming back. And it's not like a force myself to take a break, it's just natural. Sometimes I don't feel like playing for a while, and that is fine. Act upon those feelings and play something else for a bit. I recommend it.
This is something my whole clan lives by, usually around this time every year on the first off season. we all take a mass break away from D2, and then after a month or two, we all get back to having fun :)
Yep, we do the same. It really helps us stay sane and have a good time. We love finding another game to goof off together in and then we come back to Destiny all refreshed and ready for the next big thing. :)
@@AnticitizenOne exactly, and in doing so you enjoy the game a lot more than you would if you just never put your controller down for a moment. I've been doing this for years and I still love the game as much as I did when I picked it up in years and years ago
Thank you Datto for talking about this. It's a small but necessary topic for people who need it. Even the funny "if they kick you, they're asses comment".😂 People needed to finally realize this. Always will love your channel and glad I took a break from the game.
Same goes for literally anything in life. Moderation = key. Even being around people you love too much will get old, eventually.. everything does. Take a break, come back and enjoy it as much as you should or want to.
Bruh I work 50 hours a week and when I get those two days off, at least half a day goes into destiny and then I do all other daily life things I gotta do. Kinda works because I just power rush through it all and just get to chill
yup because of uni I dont have much time to play so I take abt a 10 month break until summer and then I have a ton of stuff to do and have fun during tht time
We're at the point where some people need a game/life balance therapist because some people need to learn that its okay to miss some stuff and take breaks.
I'm going to borrow that line and tell it to my gf. I for one took a break from the game and i feel fine, i don't care really if i miss that or that... But man, my gf won't stop playing. She keeps raiding, playing trials etc etc with her clan. Sure, it's great that she finds that much joy in a game. But i also feel like she needs a much needed break... :P
Honestly making friends to play this game with has been the thing that keeps me coming back. I’ve done everything I want to do but I enjoy playing with my friends
I just quit, im done and i will not be purchasing another expansion. Ive been playing since d1s beta had burnout multiple times but never have felt more disrespected. Im tired of holding out hope for something that'll never come.
Taking a two or three year break is really someone awesome. I came back during plunder of all seasons, and fell in love with destiny's universe all over again. Seriously, don't burn yourself out. It's not worth it
Having friends to play with helps. Doesn't matter if we're doing Root Of Nightmares for the 5th time this week if we're having fun and messing around while doing it
Only if they're good. I got friends who I have to take breaks from cause they're just that bad. Too lazy to swap builds/ make em. If it's a timed mission, you're gonna be there for at least three tries cause their DPS was that bad. I need to inspect them cause they constantly fail to put on surge mods. Datto is a real dunce for that point he made here on DPS.
@@bannedmann4469that sounds more like a problem with your friends than with the game. Like, even 6 Ghorns with 2 surges can get the job done in any dungeon or raid (except VERY SPECIFIC scenarios because of mechanics), if your friends use a rare lmg to do DPS that's not a problem with FOMO. just tell them to farm Shuro Chi next time LW is in rotation and get a decent apex predator and they're set for 90% of content, or farm GotD if they don't want to wait. And if they don't want to, there are tons of other weapons to use that will still be fine: farm wendigo from NFs, some LFR from last year content, an Hezen Vengeance from VoG, there's ton of content that will give them good weapons that you can do together that requires little to no investment for maximum results. If they still don't want to and don't even bother using a build from RUclips, then I'm sorry but Destiny (or any other MMORPG) is not going to work for them, and you all are better off playing something else that they will invest a little more time into
@bannedmann4469 sounds like you aren't a very good friend lol. My friends I play with can be complete trash and I still play anything with them. That's what friendship is
@@bannedmann4469 idk man my idea of fun is simply just goofing off with friends, even if we fail stuff as long as we're having a good time, joking around and not getting toxic then that's fine for me
Here’s your answer Datto. You assume most buy the annual pass right? Okay exactly that, we spent money for the season pass. Now MINIMUM we have to grind out 100 levels, Get out season pass stuff grinded out, and play the story we paid for. I think the problem we have as loyal players is like we’re not in need of a break we legit just want the change we have asked for for years. We’re on our final saga man, we just want the story we started 9 years ago to be good and the gameplay to be memorable and be something we can cherish forever.
I took a break from the beginning of Season of the Seraph until the start of Season of the Deep and to be honest the game feels super fresh to me right now.
You’re darn right about the marketing, Bungie always makes hype trailers. I just hope FS lives up to it. It’s sad that we can never seem to escape this cycle of “game’s goin downhill, Bungie needs to bring their A game for this next release”, but if nothing else, Destiny has historically proven, both in game and out, that it’s great at comebacks. “Guardians make their names at the brink of defeat”, “when things are at their worst, that’s when we’re at our best.”
Yeah... fair. I haven't been on Destiny for around a month now, because honestly, I was bored out of my gourd with the monotonous gameplay and cliché storylines. Summer sale came around on steam, bought Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring, and had unbelievable amounts of fun with them both. I could never call them my favorite game though; that title still goes to the Destiny 2 Red War and Forsaken campaigns, as they both gave the best gaming memories I've ever had in my life. Maybe that's why I take so many breaks: the prominent things I loved about this game were stripped away from me, and I could never relive the good times I used to have. This game got me through some real rough patches in my life, and I'm ever-grateful for that. So until Bungie gets their head out of their ass with the storytelling, I'm cutting ties. Would hate to pollute those good memories with whatever mess Destiny is right now.
Personally, the FOMO I'm going through is Eververse bright dust offers and fashion in the Season Pass. I missed the Season of the Haunted ornaments and haven't recovered since
I think a thing that could genuinely alleviate this issue which I've been saying since Gambit prime got removed it is a genuine horde mode in the game would combat all of this because the whole point is you have people that are basically hooked into destiny and having them have a mode where they can just fight endlessly and fail and be okay with that where success is never supposed to happen and where winning is an impossibility would be such a good thing.
I jump in each week for the story stuff and then jump out to play whatever else. I’ll play PvP if there’s motivating loot to get. It’s great to jump out and into other games because it makes you appreciate how unrivaled the gunplay is in Destiny when you come back.
finally datto does therapy, i think more destiny players need to hear this, i always have fun after i've finished with a season trying out new games to cleanse the palette before the next one
It's funny, we've enabled and exploited this behavior. "Now it's time to address the problem" while ignoring the elephant in the room. But. Please do. Go off sir.
I've been taking a break for months now and I'm really enjoying it. Destiny had been completly destroyed by bungo. They took the soul out of the game and completly destroyed pvp. It just wasn't fun anymore. Can't say that I mis it. It felt predatory. They're taking to much advantage of the fanbase and completly milked the game into oblivian.
I've been doing what Datto said at 8:50 for years. Every once and a while I'll hop on with a friend and progress the season pretty far if there's a crazy new mission (or sometimes finish it in one day), but for the most part, I wait till the last month of the expansion and then grind like crazy. Not only does it feel refreshing to wait that long inbetween expansions, it also feels awesome with all of that hype building up for the next expansion and going crazy with the seaons. Not to mention, you get to sit back and relax while watching the game repeatly enter the "Destiny is over" and "we're back baby" stages of the game. I've been a casual player since day one and I can still enjoy the game while doing stuff like that without having to play the game for hours every day.
You bring up a good point. Destiny, and specifically Destiny 2, was MADE with casual players in mind, and I feel like it hasn't really tried to go back to the D1 levels of difficulty.
I respect what's being said, but lifestyle games impact a lot of people differently, and should sometimes be treated more closely to an addiction than just to something recreational. Same thing as food or alcohol - saying "just don't do it" can be easier said than done.
Feels bad that even a guy with 1.2 million subs can't stop playing a game he doesn't enjoy because his channel literally depends on it. Admittedly I stopped watching Mtashed because he plays Gacha games, but I'm glad he got to switch to something he likes.
after the stream this week where someone just wouldn't let it go, it really felt like this was necessary. which is wild to me that people need to be told by their favorite content creator to take a damn break.
I really hope that the next expansion does round off the story. My worry is that it will be like lightfall. That final shape will be ‘the beginning of the end’ and it will be a whole year before it all winds up into whatever they have planned for post light and dark
Ill break down what ive noticed. The developers are not stupid, they not exactly how to keep people hooked. Whats the exact same thing irl. Drug dealers. Your first hits free (free to play) then you either become addicted or you go on to the next best thing. But once they have you addicted thats it they got you. You can bitch and cry and hate the game but you are STILL scratching ypur neck at bungies door asking for your next fix. That is what it is its an addiction. Drip feed is like chasing the dragon (if you know you know) it will always have the next best thing right around the corner. So you chase and chase the whole time hating the game. BUT right when that new content drops or a meta braking gun you get that dopamine rush and lets call it what it is a high. Sp you always chase that. Forsaken was our ultimate high thats why its so fondly rememberd. But now our shits laced with baby powder (whatever lightfall was) and it sucks but we keep coming back because we know how good it COULD be (sound familiar?) All im saying is the game development teams play off addiction. Someone who hates something and cant put it down is a, say it with me now........
Haven’t played in 2 months, sometimes I look at the new stuff and I get fomo and I think “I need to get it now because it will go away” but then I realise I think I need another month until I come back again. Thank you again Datto for a great video.
ENJOY THE PEOPLE YOU ARE PLAYING WITH! Sorry for the caps, but if you get a cool group to farm with, the farm won't feel like a farm. If you really, really, REALLY want something, go for it, you'll have fun. If there's something you don't want to do, don't do it, you won't have fun.
This right here, yes! I play the game a fair amount but I've only been playing more lately cause I've gotten a big group of people together to just say "hey who wants to do something?" And I'm always getting people that want to either farm a raid encounter, do whatever just came out this week (solstice this week for example) or even just run through a playlist activity while talking about whats been going on lately. So much more fun with people you enjoy being around.
This advice shouldn’t trump taking a break, but if it does for someone, they’ll find that they can never go back to grinding solo, it becomes a disquieting feel
@@DrVividz oh I'm not saying it's for everyone to do, I fully agree in taking breaks if you're not enjoying the game. I am just saying I personally enjoying it more now because of the people I am playing with. Also as a side note I played almost none of the time when tears of the kingdom came out cause I wanted to play that more.
Two things can be true at once. 1. the game sucks right now, a myriad of issues that Bungie have let build up and stagnate over the course of the last year. 2. we all need a break, probably because these issues are making he game unenjoyable to play.
I think it isn't so much the Meta Weapons as it is the cosmetics, like the cool scythe finisher. I had the season but was on a longer break and totally missed out on probably 3 seasons in a row that I OWNED. I just want to be able to other passes so I can get the stuff I payed for but was on a break for.
Really refreshing to hear a RUclipsr say this. Honestly a lot of the fomo I get is driven by content creators. It’s nice to hear the words “it doesn’t actually matter that much.” 🙏
Bro i ended up missing the first half of this season due to renovations in my computer room. That was the best thing to happen to me since when I came back I had ass loads of story to catch up on, a whole new dungeon to learn, a fishing exotic and solstice event to grind, and so many new weapons to try in pvp! And still I don't play as much as I used to, only playing half what I used to, and spending more time in other games, or just taking a break and going outside! Missing the first half of the season has, no lie, re-envigorated my love for Destiny and improved my mental health significantly.
Datto's gaslighting is not appreciated. He's completely wrong as to why people are upset. It has nothing to do with playing the game. It's the repetitive content and aggressively unfair monetization. That's not burnout. That's seeing the problem. We get, Datto, this is your money maker, so you CAN'T be negative or honest about it, or Sony/Bungie will cut you off at the knees, fine. But don't gaslight the people who have legit complaints. Like having content WE PAID FOR REMOVED. Or being forced to pay for content like Dungeons to get the full game. Or that the pass system is literally pay to win, as it offers faster character growth for cash. This was dishonest and scummy. Peace.
Lol you must not have been around for long. Datto has always been a shill and has always made content that never actually addresses the criticism from the community. That Bungie affiliation is too strong, he can’t cut it now, he’s nearly 10 years deep.
@@Slitheringpeanut After watching his response to Aztecross' D2 monetization video, I had doubts about his character. This video shows just how deep he is in Bungie's pocket 💩
I haven’t played destiny in 3 years. But I watch just to keep up and hangout with datto. Sometimes a break is the right thing and you don’t need it anymore.
I started college this past year and found myself with much less time to play the game than I was used to, especially following a pretty open summer. I had to take a few week+ breaks from the game to keep up with school work or just because I was busy with other stuff and I actually ended up having so much more fun the times that I came back to play the game after taking breaks because I felt refreshed and the things I was doing felt new and exciting more often.
Ohhhhhh boy saw that title and I’m ready to hear what Datto has to say. Seriously guys there are other freaking games. And there are other hobbies. After watching the video, I gotta say, I agree with what Datto is saying. Breaks are healthy. I’ve been keeping up mostly with D2, but when I start running out of stuff to do, I just go play other games. It’s kind of cycle of taking breaks that allowed me to play other games. My Destiny play time is down right now, and I’m instead playing games like *Dave the Diver* on PC and that game is freaking great. It’s okay to walk away for a bit. Don’t let a live service game take over your life. Play what you have fun playing and don’t trick yourself into playing Destiny if all it does is upset you.
Thank you datto for keeping it real with a lot of people that are struggling with this. I watch you to stay informed and vicariously living through you. I'm sure if I was still in high school I would be grinding this game to collect the new guns, but I haven't had the time or the need to do so. I maybe log in once a month now for an hour or so
This game feels like it's DESIGNED for you to take breaks. The season pass is easy to complete if you just do the story missions, lot out for a few weeks and play something else, and then when you come back for the event you're refreshed enough that you'll finish it out
Yes, it is pretty much designed with that in mind. The weekly seasonal missions aren't too long, and neither are all the other activities in the game. Even for endgame PvE content, you have checkpoints for the week where you can leave, and pick up where you left off later. Even more so now that they've removed the need to grind for the pinnacle cap every season.
Seriously. I hop in every Tuesday while the seasonal story is going, and I’ll typically also run a few raids and dungeons with the occasional GM over the rest of the week. But then I stop playing for the week and play other video games or do other things in my free time. I’ll typically take a big break in between the end of the seasonal story and the start of the live event, where I typically finish off the season pass with some challenges. I even often take big breaks for most of an entire season (typically the third season like Plunder, Worthy and Splicer) and then just have that much more content to play when I come back. I genuinely enjoy playing the game every time I’m on, raids with toxic players in my clan and LFG aside. I don’t know why people feel like this has to be the ONE GAME that they play and never take breaks or try other stuff.
@@RadiantPaladin4 yeah, I mean it would be really cool if I could play endlessly but that's unrealistic! Plus there are SO many other incredible games out there
It definitely is…which highlights my biggest problem with the game right now…TIMEGATING. I hate it so much, let me plow through all the stuff and then be done with it. Haven’t played D2 since Lightfall launch and I don’t spend one second thinking about it.
I finished season of the deep just two weeks ago and the only time I come back to the game is either to help a bud to clear a raid or a nightfall or to level up a raid crafted weapon maximum of 4 to 5 hours of destiny before swapping games every two days whilst having collage also I play destiny for lore (:
As one of the "omega gamers" that grinds the heck out any game I play; you're 100% on base with this take. There's A LOT of games out there that are fun to play and investing all your mental health and energy into something you're not having fun with super unhealthy. I've stepped away from D2 for multiple seasons at a time and have still come back and gotten Day 1/Challenge on raids and solo flawlessed the dungeons. It's not hard at all to catch up after a break.
For me it’s definitely seasonal weapons or armor ornaments (like those in the season pass). With weapons, it can be tough for groups when so many are the type to “have ghorn or get booted”, but also some weapons are really strong for long stretches of time (like retrofit escapade), and missing out on weapons like that can lead to having to choose a less strong weapon that might just make stuff a bit more annoying. But I definitely get worried of missing the season pass ornaments because there’s no way to get them after the season has ended, and if I’m spending as much money as I do on the annual version (for the large portions of the year that I do want to play), it feels like a waste to lose out on those ornaments. I’m still sad I didn’t get the ornaments from season of the haunted. I like this game sometimes, and I love making fun fashion in the game, so I get worried I’ll miss something cool because I just couldn’t bring myself to play. Not saying I don’t take breaks when I need it, but it definitely sucks to miss those kinds of things
I just want to say this if you are afraid of missing out on the content on the battle pass or activities, the game is honestly very forgiving to the people who hop in near the end of the season, as there are so many easy challenges which help boost your battlepass quickly, and if you havent done the story elements of the season, theyll be there at least until final shape comes out so you won't have to worry. Ive jumped back into the game countless times near the end of seasons, with maybe a month or couple weeks left and been able to grind out the battlepass pretty easily.
The game's also only gotten easier to a point where if they reversed an insane amount of stuff that makes our characters stupidly powerful(major doubt), chances are you'd be able to get on just fine. A majority of the handful of rare occasions where a person does need to show up to overcome a difficulty challenge is content that barely even that many people playing the game even touch, so it's a little dumb for people to freak out and feel like they're going to miss out on some big thing. Combine that with how there's a stupid amount of top tier options for weapons that often come from raids and dungeons that never go away and there's just not really a ton one should be concerned about.
I agree. I came back for defiance when It had 21 days left and I was level 2 because all I had done was half of the campaign. In those 3 weeks I completed the story hit the power cap(not Pinny) and got to level 105 th right bonus and bounties
Refreshing to see one of the big D2 content creators put up a more positive Destiny video, seems like a lot of creators have been piling on the negativity lately which isn’t to say everything’s all good but still it’s nice to get some positivity in here, you da man Datto👊
I used to not be able to put this game down, now I don’t even play the seasonal story missions anymore lol I just watch RUclipsrs play them so I can keep up with the story until the next expansion.
It’s hard to break that FOMO feeling, but you can do it fellas. There’s so many single player games I’m catching up on now with this down time. It feels like getting that destiny hook out of you for a while and to refresh. I’ll revisit how I feel with the next season
Dattos points there were trash. You are actively punished for missing things, like gun patterns and content. I can't belive he thinks DPS only matter for streamers. I can't take anything he says seriously.
@@bannedmann4469 name a single weapon this season that matters at all, they are fucking useless. Even if you needed to farm for something it would take an hour max to get a pattern for any given weapon. Except current raid maybe, but that will not leave so i dont see the issue.
@@bannedmann4469 you aren't punished. you can still get those patterns if you comeback within that DLC year. And yea the only real DPS test happens now 48hrs out of the year and the people who participate in that are 95% content creators.

@@dylanmiller1140 I mean, sure but even myself, I played D2 even in college and all, like I had a life and all, but Im taking a lo g break, a lot of us started losing interest, but yeah, numbers do talk and that’s what gives Bungie the permission to keep developing the game in such a miserable way
@@ludwigtheascendant nothing has changed, what do you mean when you say “a miserable way.” They messed up the servers, they addressed it multiple times and are fixing it and frankly it’s improving a lot and we have more going forward, also don’t make PvP maps, which sucks but makes sense cause if you tie them to expansions or seasons then you fracture a playerbase more and it would take too much time to make good pvp maps for free. Nothing else has changed or is “miserable” which is why so many people are playing
@@dylanmiller1140 it’s miserable cause we who have played through the ups and downs know what D2 can be, we know the crucible’s potential, raids’ potential, exotic missions etc but Bungie lives by the “don’t overdeliver” mindset, which is a miserable way to develop a game. Don’t defend them, they’re not doing a good job, that’s why nothing positive is said about D2 atm, cause it’s not in a good state and hopefully it will someday fulfill it’s potential
I just had a break for a couple of months, came back and saw this video a few days ago - taking a break really helped me out, even if I missed on some guns to add to collection, it's alright, my goal is to never miss an exotic or crafted gun obtainability, other than that I'm off :D
I can for sure agree with this, Season of the Witch is the first Destiny 2 season where I've actually SERIOUSLY grinded stuff since around midway through Witch Queen, I just really was not enjoying stuff for months on end and I don't even think I bothered finishing the Lightfall campaign until the beginning of this season. Not forcing myself to grind the same stuff over and over has been really refreshing and has allowed me to put time into games I normally wouldn't like Cyberpunk and Fear & Hunger and the like, and now that I'm back in destiny it genuinely feels new, fresh, and interesting.
as someone who for several years out of the franchise’s history has been heavily addicted, and has then since taken a break due to school since beyond light and is now coming back to the game properly, the break has been so great. even with as bad as lightfall has been i’ve enjoyed the shit out of it because i’ve had so many exotics to chase, things to do, multiple campaigns plus current seasonal stuff, the game is HUGE for me right now and i’m really enjoying it in a new way. if you’ve played this long and aren’t feeling it right now: stop. don’t spoil final shape for yourself, take a break and come back a few weeks before final shape comes out and enjoy the shit out of our shit game.
Seriously, how do Destiny addicts not go "Finally finished the season, now to go play other games im interested in"
Thats literally what I do lmfao(I see your point tho because many of us don’t)
Exactly what I do every season. I just play until I'm done then play other games until the next season releases.
I looked back at the seasons I’ve played and learned I usually only play the first and last season before new dlc lol
this so god damn much, I'm taking a break until final shape (despite buying the deluxe version of lightfall) and as of rn plan on playing final shape then never playing again, but thats me being burnt out as all hell from the game, give it about 8 months till final shape and I'll probably feel a lot different
Me too tbh. Usually a season long break once a year makes me wanna play again

I've went from playing 5-7 hours at a time, to now playing 1-2 hours a day to now logging on once a week. Doing this made me realise that taking a break is necessary for something you do a bunch of. We've all felt burnout, it's normal. Hope everyone is taking care of themselves!

I just came back after two years cause I just felt like finally replaying. Was stoked to see primary ammo was infinite

I’m right there with you took a loooong break and now I’m loving it again. Granted when I bored I play other games with heckin’ lots of replay value.

The reason that’s all you see is that unhappy people are a lot more likely to say something. There’s a decent number of players that like the game, including myself. I just don’t usually feel the need to talk about it because I’m busy actually playing it.

When it comes to the seasons that are going on during the school year, my goal each week is to get the weekly story done and to get a page down on season pass completed. It’s not a long goal for the week and it’s something I can do once I get a class work down
I get that a lot of Destiny veterans are burned out, but as someone who just started playing last year, to me this game is INCREDIBLE!

You’ll get sick of the connections, bugs, rubberbanding in crucible, hackers, the constant unending grind, and complete neglect from the devs.

Some people genuinely have an addiction, there's no way in hell any game can keep you as engaged with new content as much as some people play destiny
this is so real i think too many people only consider addiction something like an alcoholic or gambler but seriously… if you’re getting emotional online because the devs can’t make enough things for you to do… there may be a problem
Facts
Pretty much this. Destiny is just a shooter+rpg lite. It ain't that deep, and it doesn't have that much content.
And that's fine. Play other games. Anyone who feels COMEPELLED to consume every piece of content in a game like its a job has a problem and needs to work on themselves.

stop defending the state of live services games... these companies havent innovated for years (in fact they are not incentivized to change because people are ok with mediocrity), and the fact that there are people out there saying, "its my job to play shitty games" is actually hilarious... good luck getting them to change their formula. even as a casual gamer, if a company is telling me to not play their live service game a month and a half in, makes me raise my eyebrows knowing i paid $70-$100 for it.
It’s always so nice seeing you say exactly what I’ve been telling and pleading with people about, my circle would listen to you, but never me when I said the same things

It’s sad that people like Datto have to tell people to take a break… really shows the amount of braincells that we have.

yup because of uni I dont have much time to play so I take abt a 10 month break until summer and then I have a ton of stuff to do and have fun during tht time
We're at the point where some people need a game/life balance therapist because some people need to learn that its okay to miss some stuff and take breaks.
I'm going to borrow that line and tell it to my gf. I for one took a break from the game and i feel fine, i don't care really if i miss that or that... But man, my gf won't stop playing. Only if they're good. I got friends who I have to take breaks from cause they're just that bad. Too lazy to swap builds/ make em.

I missed the Season of the Haunted ornaments and haven't recovered since
THIS
i quickly realized something was up when i spent 3 hours last week making an outfit for this game
Also I usually take like 4 day long breaks from destiny fairly regularly. Also I have fun for the explosions and space magic and not the other shit.
I jump in each week for the story stuff and then jump out to play whatever else. I’ll play PvP if there’s motivating loot to get. It’s great to jump out and into other games because it makes you appreciate how unrivaled the gunplay is in Destiny when you come back.
Destiny feels great to shoot but it's definitely not unrivaled lol
finally datto does therapy, i think more destiny players need to hear this, i always have fun after i've finished with a season trying out new games to cleanse the palette before the next one
The dad bit is getting more and more silly each time and I love it
0:03 Datto quotable moment.
Same thing as food or alcohol - saying "just don't do it" can be easier said than done.

the amount of dodging of the fact bungie doesn't release enough content per expansion is absurd.
He's stated that in the past...
Any game is fun with friends. Hell, an empty grass field is fun with friends
For real, the main reason I still love Destiny is playing with my best friends
Two things can be true at once. 1. the game sucks right now, a myriad of issues that Bungie have let build up and stagnate over the course of the last year. 2. we all need a break, probably because these issues are making he game unenjoyable to play.

@@sohsuh7625 I got there. But the fomo can still exist. So this helped ease some of that.

Have a good day datto!
I basically only jump on d2 when there’s a doable exploit to farm resources like legendary shards, etc just incase I wanna play it again

I love this Datto thank you for telling the group that starts the most drama what their issue is instead telling the game is this issue.
I took a break for a year and the game still sucked

I feel like I need to be friends with Datto. He makes sense. Logic is his friend. I like this.
First. The Lung Cancer is MINE!!!
Coz literally, people ARE being forced to play against their will. Just to get all the items from the season pass they paid for...
When you go tell the kid he needs to get a life after his dead brother introduced him to destiny 2
as someone who for several years out of the franchise’s history has been heavily addicted, and has then since taken a break due to school since beyond light and is now coming back to the game properly, the break has been so great. even with as bad as lightfall has been i’ve enjoyed the shit out of it because i’ve had so many exotics to chase, things to do, multiple campaigns plus current seasonal stuff, the game is HUGE for me right now and i’m really enjoying it in a new way. if you’ve played this long and aren’t feeling it right now: stop. don’t spoil final shape for yourself, take a break and come back a few weeks before final shape comes out and enjoy the shit out of our shit game.
Hair's looking lovely my dude. gotta release a world's first run through of your hair routine, I'd defs watch XD
