Tom Bell continues his video diary around the preparation of the organ works of Olivier Messiaen for performance.
In this episode he discusses how to perform the ecstatically slow music which is a feature of much of Messiaen’s writing. He comments on Messiaen’s own tempo markings, on why he wrote these extremely slow pieces, and on how to handle slow-moving melodic lines with confidence on the organ.
