- What makes an esports caster legendary?
Is it their innate ability to perfectly capture exactly what you’re feeling? Their ingenious ability to improvise that raises the hair on the back of your neck? Or maybe it’s their capacity to string together words that transcend the very games they’re casting?
But what if they also brought something to casting that’s so often overlooked - what if they brought themselves?
Well, in European League of Legends, you’ll have a hard time finding anyone who's more comfortable in his own skin than Andrew “Vedius” Day.
A wacky Welsh caster who has successfully carved out his own niche using cringe humour, analysis and of course, his boundless personality.

@@aalisoon not exactly, my understanding is that the company started working on another project called Catalyst Black and they didn't want to split their recourses between 2 games.
They tried to hand off development of Vainglory to a company called Rogue. After releasing 2 or 3 champs, Rogue decided it wasn't financially viable to keep supporting the game.
As it is now the games playable, its a shell of what it was though. There's no ranking system and you can't access your account, everyone is just thrown in a moshpit together. On the plus side you get to use all the skins in game

Had the pleasure to play with Vedi a couple of days ago, lets say his noc mid was "struggling", but we ended up winning the game and he said i was the first gwen that didnt int him, needless to say had fun :')

We have a similar case here in Spain with Ibai Llanos. He started as a caster but he became immensely popular because his incredible showmanship. Now he is a streamer an one of the most famous persons for the young people

I’m relatively new to league and I was wondering why lec had the best “content”. Now I know it’s cuz of vedius. Other regions like NA and lpl try similar stuff, but the line between good and cringe content is so thin that they usually end up being cringe

Adding that humor and the skits is amazing I think. There is seamingly nothing to lose, take the example of picks to watch right:
People that like the humor are fine with its addition, people that do not like it can just skip it and watch the informational part.
What seems to be where he improved is that the awkward phrases in game cannot be avoided and can be distracting (I love it, but what do I know), but adding humor and moreso personality to the surrounding/supporting content will rarely be bothersome and will often be beneficial.
Key detail: The "image change" started in 2018 already *not* 2019. People often forget that, but even one of the reddit threads you showed said "EU LCS" and "3 years ago" from 2018.

That is such a beautifully written statement and perfectly highlights how Vedius never stopped being himself. Every iteration we've seen is who he truly is - there's no acts (besides the characters, which are just him through a lens), and you know he's going to give you 100% of your enthusiasm every day he shows up. So proud of that madlad for being able to cast Worlds Grand Finals, and I know his creativity is only just getting started.

I grew up watching VEDIUS cast the league, his game analysis and casting was always accurate and extraordinary, his prediction that DRX will win worlds in 2022 still amazes me.

Vedius is by far the best presenter when it comes to the game. If it isn't quick shot / Vedius / Medic I find it super hard to watch. When the american LCS guys get in there for worlds / MSI etc it makes the games way worse especially when those LCS casters also seem to make a ton of unintended mistakes and have no personality.

I've never been remotely interested in MOBA games in general and I've never watched or played league, nor do I really intend to, but I think Dimitri did a pretty good job with this one. Without knowing anything about League I was able to understand what the significance of all this is and I appreciate that a lot. I think it was a really good idea to avoid titling this video as something specifically about league because it transfers so well to other scenes. I've definitely found that, of the games I'm interested in, the ones that have the most uptight and sanitized presentation at the highest level are the ones I watch the least. That goes for sports as well, the only sport I watch somewhat regularly at this point is snowboarding and that's partially because the commentators and announcers always sound comfortable yet excited. The best quake event streams are the ones where they aren't under too much pressure to rake in the sponsors for bethesda, and the best smash event streams are often melee (and especially pm/p+) where the people prioritize passion over professionalism.
