Wow thanks for this Video ive been torn about pumping up my old falling apart amiga 1200 or buying a standalone. I play games on my a1200 monthly to this day and emulation is annoying constant fiddling. I just wanna turn it on play games. This answered a lotta questions. Really super thank you for this video. All I wanted to see is games running on it. NAILED it.
Looks great! Having never owned an Amiga, but getting it set up in WinUAE properly and installing things from disks was a lot of fun. I have it running beautifully on my MiSTer. Love. the FPGA scene! With the digital IO add-on board I can't wait to load my Atari tapes. Amiga, by far, is a better OS with capabilities beyond its time!
so the big evolution of the "new" amiga hardware is it all for play old 320X200 games? why nobody show how lightwave, imagine, reald 3d or other professional software work? where is AD-pro?
My guess is that few Amiga users today that gets the new HW actually knows how to use any of those tools. I used to use Imagine, LightWave and ImageFX a lot back in the late 90s on my super-expanded Amiga 1200/060. My main thing was music though, using Octamed Soundstudio making multitrack music with a mix of 8/16 bit samples. Knock on wood though... my Vampire V4 will be shipped to me next week. :)
@@erebostd It's a bit unstable, probably because of heat of the CF card when you do lots of file copying. Other than that, it is an amazing product. I have tested it with some of my 16+ channel Octamed Soundstudio tracks and it handles them way better than my original A1200/060. I have yet to play around with ImageFX or any of the 3D softwares. :) EDIT: Here is a recording of TBLs Starstruck demo released 2006 that was running under WinUAE. They released a proper 060 version of it a couple of years ago, and that is the version I recorded from my V4. ruclips.net/video/5d2I0YBn384/видео.html
Same thought: the raw speed improvment shows BIG numbers on benchmark BUT as any real user knows, what count is how much productive you get. Why owning a porshe if you only drive in the city at 50km/h max? The real interest of this power comes when doing computing intensive works like rendering or massive sound treatment. For 20 years old games, the speed improvment is none as they are already go to the fastest speed they can that is 50fps. Anyway have you more joy triggering the gun in quake at 50 fps or 200? Don't think so. Speed is not joy, marketers bypass critical thinking.
You guys are doing great work, Amiga workbench was so ahead of its time as was programs like lightwave etc used for Babylon 5 etc and some classic games , going forward be good to see Gloom and Legacy and new software and demos, also I liked your answer down below his question was valid as will probably get a lot of people thinking that and you answered it well and politely considering all work you guys do. Really respect that
It's looking more and more like AROS/ApolloOS is the future for Amiga software development. The community will just move on from all the legal stuff of Workbench. A shame, but at least there is now a very good alternative.
Well... until A-EON can get their A1222 (Tabor) out, Vampire V4 standalone seems to be the only viable option that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I do have a Sam460 running AOS 4.1, but it is a bit buggy. At some point I will probably get the AmigaOne X5000. For now, I have ordered a Vampire V4+. :)
@@wobblyman2000 Hopefully, they'll be able to complete & send them out more quickly now that Covid-19 restrictions are rolling back. It was a long wait.. I registered for my V4SA late Jan of this year. So, about 7 months. I'm hoping you won't have to wait that long. *fingers crossed*
I have a CF drive with DPaint V on it and lots of animations and other work. Will I be able to use that OS 3.1 formatted drive in the Standalone? Can I autoboot from it?
@@manueljesus3147 I tried it recently with RTG and it's mind blowing it even works (this wasn't always the case), it's not going to win any speed records compared to a V2 or V4 though, more like 75% of an A4000.
amiga is retro.. and playing old games on "new powerfull amiga" granted it.. What's the point in that? What is the point of powerfull retro amiga.. if it will be used for oldies app, games that don't need power anyway? ps this system looks awful and not modern... garish and overdone
Well folks upgrade phones and PC's every year or so. The point of all this isn't to up the frame counter in DOOM but to lay the ground work for a total Amiga classic solution built for the future.
If I understand correctly, ApolloOS is a Linux distribution with an Amiga API. If this is the case, we can have on ApolloOS all the modern software and games available on Linux.
@@JediPhenix No Apollo OS is based on AROS an Amiga Os Replacement Operating system where the OS was coded to run on INTEL based PCs. ApolloOS takes AROS and ports it back to the 68K range of processors with optimizations done for the 68080 processor and Vampire 4 standard.
@@manueljesus3147 Ok ! I understand now, thx. But There are certainly all good freewares and games with ApolloOS, like Linux. Prehaps there are Steam with ApollosOS too.
Really impressive advancement of Aros for Vampire!!!

@@TemalCageman hi check my channel as I have videos running gfx software as well. It takes a great deal of skill to get things working as the do now.
Looks great, the only thing I noticed was the crackly sounds when you had the music and demo's playing.
My capture card does that if I restart the V4 system during a capture
I’m almost ready to concede to AROS.

The add on V4 for the A1200 .. do they do the same thing?
a small glitch with superfrog hope that's an easy fix

$40 AMAZON USB3 to hdmi dongle capture thingy set to 720p
Would be nice if we could run it on MiSTer?
