Doing more research it seems Nintendo has no ownership in Hal but co-owns Kirby with Hal. But I can’t find a definitive source on that.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the only racing game one needs. It’s better than Forza, better than Gran Turismo, better than even the highly underrated Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed, and the Crash Racing reboot.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is as near perfection as racing games have ever gotten.
I wouldn’t even be surprised, if when Switch 2 Launches, there will be a new 3d Vnand Cartridge:
      “MARIO KART 8 DELUXE ULTIMATE”
Featuring all the DLC on the cart, and then some.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Mario Kart 9/X don’t get released until 2026.
All that praise aside …… one 1st party racing game I would greatly welcome ALMOST as much as Mario Kart 9/X ….
… would incorporate all the “cutting room floor” dark/gross/cheesy/toilet-humor level ideas from the Mario Kart series, in an alternative take on the classic “MARIO KART 8 Deluxe formula” :

I still love the idea of Star Fox Grand Prix, that weird rumor that kinda never really was a thing.
If you take Star Fox as an on rails game, you essentially already have a racer. The level is as confined and linear as a racing track and the core concept is to not crash and burn. The difference is that Star Fox as a shooter is not focused on speed... but imagine if it was!
Star Fox 64 is unique in that its levels occasionally branch and allow different level exits. That choice is usually made simply by moving in a certain position and you can take your grand ol' time to finish the level. I was always fascinated by the idea that a future game took this branching concept and gave it a sense of urgency. These branching points would close off if you took too long. If instead you performed very well, took out enemies efficiently and quickly, you could progress through the level more quickly, reach these branching points in time and take a new and more difficult level segment as a reward for skill mastery. A sort of combination of the shooter genre with the racer genre.
I don't think that will ever happen, but especially in a time of speedrunning as a spectator sport and speedrunning focused games like Neon White I feel like there is something there to explore.

I mean, to be fair, most traditional racing games are awfully similar to each other, and even the individual gameplay of most racing games is pretty repetitive since you can only race on so many tracks and always have a pretty simple goal. Nintendo doesn't want to release too many games that are so similar to each other. Plenty of people say that they don't NEED to make a new F-Zero game for this same reason, since Mario Kart already covers that genre as much as they need to.
Now, as an avid F-Zero fan, I don't agree with that assessment. Even with all the similarities within the genre, Mario Kart and F-Zero are still plenty different (though I think if we do get a full new F-Zero after 99 then it should have quite a lot of singleplayer campaign content akin to GX and GP Legend, as to differentiate from Mario Kart which is typically much more multiplayer focused with the exception of F-Zero 99). But if we were to get something like a new Mario Kart, F-Zero, Wave Race, Excite Bike, and Donkey Kong Racing game for every Nintendo system, then the racing game market definitely get oversaturated and each of these individual games would have to do SO much crazy stuff in order to stand out in what is normally a pretty same-y genre. Maybe they could pull it off without making any of these games to similar to one another, who knows, but I'm not sure if it would be worth the risk or the effort. I think it'd be best if they just kept it to 2 racing games per system, a Mario Kart and then either an F-Zero or a Wave Race (as a fan, my preference is F-Zero, though the return of Wave Race would also be welcomed with open arms)

  • @jackronesto8182

Great video. I think a lot of it has to do with Nintendo reacting to industry change as well. Racing games are still popular, but they were even more popular back in the 80s-2000s, so there were more games to cater to that genre demand. Now racing games have centralized into a couple realistic franchises (Forza, Gran Turismo) and kart racers. Nintendo probably doesn’t feel the need to put out multiple ones. It’s the same with sports games. They used to have multiple franchises (Ken Griffey Jr, NBA Courtside, 1080 Avalanche) and now centralized into Mario sports games now that they see there’s not as much demand as there was in the past. If there’s another breakout hit in the genre that wows players and makes the genre more interesting again, like what happened to RPGs in the mid 2010s, I think it’s more likely we’ll see a revival of racing games from Nintendo.
Additionally, for a future video, could you cover the rights issues that arise from Nintendo collaborating with other studios. That’s their usual MO and people praise them for it, but I think it would be interesting to see the challenges and opportunities that come for franchises and games that Nintendo makes with outside studios. For example, I’m thinking of games like Baten Kaitos Origins and Bayonetta 2, which are owned by Nintendo but whose franchises are owned by another company, or games like Ogre Battle 64 which are co-owned by Nintendo but haven’t had a new entry in a while.

    • @user-be3qc7re9o

This is a somewhat tangentially related and kind of stupid question, but what are your thoughts on the possibility of Nintendo supporting the PC platform? I know the majority stance is that Nintendo would never do such a thing for historical and financial reasons, but there’s an irrational part of me that feels it might happen sooner than later.
With the majority of Sony’s Helldivers 2’s success being credited to its PC playerbase, I’ve been more seriously considering what Nintendo could gain (or lose) by adding PC support for their multiplayer games (at least). A huge benefit I could see for a Splatoon or Mario Kart entry on both Switch 2 and PC would that it would be more accessible for regions where PC gaming is better established like China.
There’s an argument to be made Nintendo branching out to PC would detract sales from the Switch (2), but honestly I think Nintendo’s in a unique position where they have more to gain on PC than either Sony or Microsoft. PS5 and Xbox Series have been getting closer to being PCs in both capabilities and functions, and I feel that overlap unfortunately causes competition between the two versions. The Switch and its successor will have a very unique niche and form factor that is very unlike PC, which could allow both versions to succeed in harmony (this reasoning might explain why Switch has been so financially successful in spite of its ease of emulation).
That being said, I would definitely expect Nintendo to set up their own terrible storefront with nightmarish DRM attached were they to support PC. I apologize for the tangent, I’d be interested to hear others takes on whether Nintendo supporting PC would be disastrous or pretty good.

    • @calvinbrinenestoris2357

Unfortunately, Nintendo's way too stubborn for this. They won't port anything off of their own systems (or mobile devices, which I guess maybe sets a precedent?) unless you put a gun to their head. Also, considering how their systems substantially rely on their first party output, they might torpedo their success if they start putting big releases elsewhere.
But, people often play some of their older titles on PC through emulation anyway, so they MIGHT AS WELL get something official on there for older titles so they can at least get paid for what people are already doing.

    • @X2011racer

That depends on whether or not their next system is a sinking ship. Remember, Sega used to have a line of PC ports of various games from their dedicated hardware called Sega PC, which ranged from Sega Genesis, Sega CD, and Sega Saturn. Most of those games from Sega PC are derived from Sega Saturn, as those games and that system were selling poorly in the West.

Nintendo doesn’t *need* to do any other games in the racing genre, which sort of makes sense to me. F-Zero had the _speed_ but now Mario Kart is fast. Plus it has multi-player. part of the problem with making your character super fast in racing games is that stages need to then also become bigger and require more theming for the backgrounds. Mario Kart would probably have a lot of trouble keeping up their iconic level design when you fly past everything instantly.

I have it on some authority that they're remaking Dillon's Rolling Western with the Kirby team, so that might have a racing multiplayer component.
Although, that info is old and vague and it's very possible it was just Dream Buffet, and that came and went. Another possibility is that Dream Buffet is something of a tech demo or rather dev training for this Dillon game.
My guess, therefore, is that the Dillon game has a Miiverse component and has been delayed alongside the Switch 2. It's not strictly speaking a remake but re-doing of the trilogy, along the lines of Link Between Worlds and Star fox Zero.

Would be the perfect time to release Majora's Mask alongside with it, if true. Perhaps use the renewed license of Toon Link in marketing, as a mascot of a new Switch sports Miiverse where the gimmick would be tha tyou use sort of like animal masks.
This would also be a great way to make flexible use of new Miis, if their features can be used as a texture in any game, with a mask on the face of the polygonal models.

U guys see Pokémon as a game or any other series that’s either good or bad but it’s not that it’s more than that
It’s a culture and a lifestyle a living breathing world with a story and lore and characters
We form parasocial relationships with these fictional animals because we love them so much and they have so much personality and backstory
their dev time is 3-6 actually u just don’t feel it cuz they work on multiple projects simultaneously with the budget of a Disney channel movie around 15-20mil and they have to balance game release with the anime and the cards
Everyone can say pokemon should be like Zelda or xenoblade but those games don’t have an anime and a tcg they have to abide by it’s like jenga
Also they do make decisions dictated by the competitive scene
And they may or may not share resources that part I’m unsure of
    Hot take:
the point of Pokémon is to appeal to the widest audience possible and that there’s something for everyone from mainline to the anime to the spin offs
Well maybe if people got into the other avenues of the franchise rather than solely the games u wouldn’t be disappointed
Since the series was designed to be symbiotic with itself and to experience every avenue together for a complete experience
U guys need to reevaluate ur priorities Visuals, frame rate, art style are irrelevant
People are too focused on superficial nonsense
let’s be real u didn’t get into the original games for the graphics
And If u didn’t play games for the graphics as a kid then why would u play them for the graphics now
Sorry u forgot what the point of Pokémon was to begin with
Pokémon is always meant to be an entry level jrpg maybe the people trying to hate on pokemon maybe they just aren’t into jrpgs
    If
    The lore was good
    The writing was good
    The music was good
    The vibes were good
    The messages were good
    The character designs were good
    That’s all you really need
The series knows what it is and its niche(by niche I mean space) and what it wants to be and there’s nothing wrong with that and it doesn’t have to be anything else
The mainstream audience doesn’t care about graphics or bugs or anything they just like to vibe
People are just trying to make it something that is isn’t
And something that doesn’t fit its style
Maybe u don’t like Pokemon just aren’t into RPGs and that’s fine dont have to use that as an excuse to be toxic
If its not ur thing just move on imo
They’re gonna do their own thing and be their own thing in their own way

Calling pokemon “lazy” is lazy they got more to do than most devs they make two games and have to be symbiotic with the rest of the series and all this other stuff
They can’t delay the game they have a symbiotic release system
The games are leashed to the anime, tcg, etc and the anime, tcg etc is leashed to the games
Tpc is constantly playing a game of jenga trying to balance each of its branches
The games are in development for 3-6 years we just don’t feel it because a lot of times they work on multiple generations at the same time they have two teams the games have a 15-20 million dollar budget
    They probably share resources
    Maybe about the sharing idk
They have been working on Gen 10 for a few years now
    Visuals,frame rate,art style are irrelevant
People are too focused on superficial nonsense
    If
    The lore was good
    The writing was good
    The music was good
    The vibes were good
    The messages were good
    The character designs were good
    That’s all you really need
Can’t believe people still care about that frame stuff
I’m sorry people got so lost and brainwashed by the superficialities of the industry you forgot what Pokémon was originally about
And I know that the game isn’t perfect and that there’s issues
Pokémon is a franchise where the theme is friendship is magic and meeting cute and cool unique monsters
What the hell does graphics and performance have to do with those things?
Nothing if you wanna criticize a franchise criticize it on whether or not it delivered on the messages and themes it promised
    Was friendship magic?
Did you meet cute and cool unique creatures?
Ok then it’s a good game
Those are what’s important to Pokémon
    As the og theme said
    Pokémon is about
Oh your my best friend in a world we must defend
I will travel across the land searching far and wide each pokemon to understand the power that’s inside
Our hearts so true our courage will pull us through
you teach me and I teach you”
That’s what it is about and that’s what it will always be about and if that’s what it continues to be about until the end
Then that’s a strong enough ending for me
Not sure what graphics and animation and performance has to do with that
Performance graphics those things never Mattered
You have to remember pokemon games have only been 3D since 2013 that’s pretty recent compared to other games like Zelda that have been 3D since the 90s and early 2000s so obviously they’re gonna be behind Mixed with the fact that They can’t delay the game because main console for only 5 years compared to Zelda since n64
The franchise was designed so that every aspect of it has a symbiotic relationship
The games can’t release without the anime the merch and the manga and the manga the merch and the anime can’t release without the games
And it’s about time you all understand that by now
They are doing their best trying to balance the games with the tcg and the anime
The Pokémon franchise is like a game of jenga
If you move one thing it all falls apart
They are doing the best they can sorry I’m the only one who appreciates that
Unless you want them to hypothetically release the Gen 10 anime and then wait till the anime gets to Gen 15 to release the Gen 10 games
they are still learning as they go so y’all gotta be patient and give them time to catch up
Their partnership with take two they’ll apply what they learn back into Pokémon so that’s good
You have to remember gamefreak are inexperienced with developing open world games so of course there will be some trial and error the more they work on and improve the game and do future games the better at it they’ll get
Rome wasn’t built in a day we need to be patient
Assuming we get more open world games
NOT TO MENTION ScarVi’s development was probably screwed up by the pandemic
    Probably turned it upside down
And before u say just delay the game
    They can’t delay the game
The franchise was designed so that every aspect of it has a symbiotic relationship
The games can’t release without the anime the merch and the manga and the manga the merch and the anime can’t release without the games
And it’s about time you all understand that by now

Unless you want them to hypothetically release the Gen 10 anime and then wait till the anime gets to Gen 15 to release the Gen 10 games
it’s not outdated it’s rebellious and nonconformist
The games aren’t rushed there is a schedule they abide by for symbiosis
The games and the anime and tcg are all beholden to each other
You can’t move one without ruining the groove
Unless you one gen 10 game to come out years after the gen 10 anime and have it spoiled
    There is a symbiosis there
When you watch the anime it makes u wanna play the game and vice versa so they are companion pieces designed to be experienced together for a complete experience
They choose to live in their own bubble and be one of a kind and not imitate what everyone else does and they have my respect for that
the og games bugs are looked back on as charming
Give SV 20 years it’ll be the same
    Running shmunning

I been a Nintendo fan for a very long time, but I am personally disappointed with Nintendo decision to go with the Nintendo Switch 2. It just seems like an upgraded Switch rather then a new console, more like a Super Nintendo Switch or Switch U that will be coming up. Because Nintendo popularity and amazing games I am sure it will do well, but my overall disappointment is that in Nintendo first 3 consoles they were bolder and move competitive and innovative in their designs to develop the best consoles before they adopted a blue ocean strategy, focusing on using underpowered consoles instead and making family market and kid friendly and paying less attention to third parties. Eventually Sony took control of this and stormed away with the Playstation consoles and Microsoft also managed to get into the major market with the XBOX even challenging Nintendo as Nintendo Wii U tanked. I was just hoping they designed something revolutionary with amazing graphics, VR and AR with online and television gaming not a hybrid console that acts like a handheld at times. Sega and Atari the former heavyweight champions in consoles made great games, but their consoles could not compete with the heavy competition along with the games. Nintendo managed to stay in because they are the best in the world in making games, better then Sony and Microsoft. But Sony and Microsoft have been making a lot better consoles then Nintendo recently. Switch was a major improvement over the Nintendo WII and Wii U and a lot better then the GameCube although those systems where still pretty good if not exceptional. The last console I was super excited about from Nintendo was the Nintendo 64 because that was a revolutionary console ahead of all the other consoles as 64 bit console even though it used cartridges unlike Playstation and XBOX with their 32 bit systems. Sony did a much better job marketing the video game consoles then Nintendo and Sega at the time and managed to become the king of the console wars with the Playstation and Playstation 2 and so forth. The only company outside the major players that makes more money then these companies in video games is TenCent from China and they don't even have their own console but diversify in various aspects of video game.
