Fapy's tone, vibrato and dynamics are very close to Django himself. I think he plays more lyrical and with less force than most modern manouche players. Really like it!
Although I appreciate the fretboard fireworks of the new players, I'm partial to the more traditional players who are musically much more mature. Fapy, Tchavolo and a handful of others. They know how to go out, but never lose the sense of melody. Bravo encore !
Wow. I just discovered Tim Kliphuis by chance on a Spotify playlist. At first, I was completely sure it was Stephane Grapelli playing the violin. But I had never heard the song before so I checked the title on Spotify and, lo and behold, it was not Grappelli but Kliphuis playing. I am still blown away how amazingly well Kliphuis has mastered the Grappelli sound. A lot of excellent violinist have tried that, and are probably are still trying, but no one has come really close, except may be Florin Niculesco. I should add that I really like Lafertin's guitar style as well, very, very close to Django Reinhardt. I am just so happy right now that I found these two artists, I just had to share it with people who understand.
this is real music, music that flows from heart into the air. i am listening this and i fell warmth in my soul.thank you so much for sharing, let the gypsy blood live forever ...
Fapy is like a god to me! One of my favorite albums he made was "Swing Guitars" recorded in a English country side barn with an old BBC ribbon mic! Recorded with Le Jazz, England, 1995! Added- Fapy's rhythm section Reinier Voet and Jan Brouwer on guitars are top notch. They form Pigalle44 (Renier on lead Jan on rhythm), another fantastic band from Holland!
Sorry, I wrote Tim´s last name in a wrong way. His name is of course "Tim Kliphuis" not "Klubhuis..." sorry for that, but I can´t edit posted videos.... regards Frank
I agree with Karch139...That's why he's my favorite gypsy guitar player. He plays like Django did...nice melodic phraes...I also like Tchavolo Schmitt...
