If there’s a person on that team knows what the “Steelers way” is it would be Mason Rudolph. He has been there the whole time and has seen it all. I was so happy for him during the game! He looked like a real NFL quarterback..no happy feet no bailing out and going directly into the rush. He is QB1

Some of the plays actually looked well designed and executed, with timing . You could see mason looking at his progressions, keeping his eyes downfield long enough to do so and throwing with an accuracy that allowed YAC. Taking him out now would be insane.

  • @USMC8506
    @USMC8506 5 месяцев назад +68

Rudolph never has really been given a full embrace by Tomlin as a consideration as the starter. They erroneously knee jerk reacted to media criticism of not having “the heir apparent” to Ben on the roster. It’s never easy following a HOF QB, but Rudolph wasn’t given that chance. Sure, they had him on the roster, but the infatuation with Mitch who spent a year backing up Josh Allen erased his lack of leadership to inspire his teams. Sorry, Mitch is a back up, at best. He should be let go after this season. Resign Rudolph and give him a fair shot to be the starter next year. But as far as the remainder of this season, let him sling the rock and manage the offense. He spent more time under Ben and he learned somethings observing in that time. He won’t be Ben Part II, but he can carry the team until the Steelers figure out if KP is the next man up for QB1.

Am I the only one that thinks that Kenny can actually benefit from this in the long run? You gotta start Mason next Sunday, put Kenny as QB2, and have him see what you have to do in the pocket and when it comes to feeding these receivers the ball (Mason had a few overthrows but he also had very good throws, at least hes trying to heave them downfield at the right time). Kenny is literally in his second year, learn him take a few things from Masons game, who heck he was in Kenny's position in a way a few years back, learning the pace of the game and being better in pocket awareness. 6 years later and now he is showing what he has learned. Great on them to prove me and almost all the fans that doubted their desire for the game wrong, it just did not show that the previous 3 weeks, and QB play had to be the reason why, I am sorry but it should've always been Mason> Mitch when Kenny went down, you just felt the aura of no hope the moment Mitch trotted in against Arizona. I just want more games like the Bengals game, going to Seattle is not going to be an easy task, but Rudolph gives us something that Kenny barely gives us and that Mitch never gave us: Hope for this offense to put up points on the board and unleash their full potential.
Another Great Daily shot, DK. In Mason we trust. Kenny I still like you a lot, but I seriously hope this is a wake up call for you.

Mason Rudolph was treated terrible and really never got his chance. We've been Waiting for Kenny Pickett to show us something EARLY in the game and Get the Team Rolling. Usually it's a Big Play from the Defense that had to save the Team and somehow Kenny was getting the Credit when credit wasn't deserved on his part. I agree, that Rudolph was the key. The wide receivers frustration was with the QB play. They couldn't do what they do because they had to "dumb down" offense for QB play. The defense got to get off the field and rest, because Rudolph was keeping offense on the line. Rudolph may not be elite, but I believe he has the talent, maturity, leadership, courage and character to move this team forward. I think that it is clear he has not wasted his time as pack up to work on his craft. Staying in the pocket, no happy feet, accurate long ball, and touch on short passes. Fantastic J1Q. I was wondering the same thing. Can Mason consistently do it? Part of me is going give the benefit of the doubt. Coming into that game his record should 6-4. The lost to the lions was no fault of his. Dionte dropped a TD in the end zone and Pat F fumble the ball in OT. So yeah, he has something. To be honest I think this game is going to be more about the offensive coordinators. They know good and well. Pete Carroll is not gonna get beat deep all game. Mason looked good throwing the shorter routes. My J1Q ties directly into the game. What’s our 3rd or 4th option on offense. What if they take away the deep ball, stop the run or the screens to Jaylen Warren. Can Mason consistently complete the shorter routes?

I enjoyed that win, because it was tbh unexpected after that last 3 weeks. I really thought the malaise was permanent. This may even be just a dead cat bounce effect, however I'm less inclined t o be that cynical given the level of commitment across the whole roster . Also shout out to the UDFA #30 who is just a pleasure to watch on the field and when interviewed. I think the "intangible factor" is actually a pretty tangible one, from Kenny diving toward the end zone, getting injured, to Mitch's benching (as DK mentioned former Steelers said) it looked like every position was "pressing" (trying too hard/putting too much pressure on themselves) even more than they already had been all season. This past Saturday, you saw a lot of what made us all so excited about this team as they just played fast & free.
If what I've heard about Mason, that in the past 2+ years he hasn't practiced well, I can see how an unfortunate situation developed where an improving vet gets left behind, & it's not like that is unprecedented at the QB position. There's all kinds of late bloomers, former CFL guys, & perennial backups (all with high pedigrees like Mason) get lost in shuffle, finally get an opportunity, & take full advantage of it. I'm not saying Mason is Rich Gannon or Kurt Warner, but he deserves the look he's going to get the rest of the season.

The play that sticks in my mind was him not throwing a check down to Warren when he saw him about to get blown up and threw it downfield instead to pick up a first down (I think to AR). Kenny has been throwing that ball to Warren and getting negative yardage all season. Kenny needs time to watch and learn.

The one thing this team hasn't been this year is "Consistent"... So until I see a consistency, even with their effort, passion and heart, game in and game out...I'm not buying it. I have been sold a standard of football that CONSISTENTLY stinks for too long. I'm glad they won, I'm happy for Mason, but that performance on Saturday did not by any means wipe away what we watched for 3 straight weeks. Good show DK

We've seen this episode before; remember when we got excited the first time they played the Bengals and thought that everything had been worked out? I give MR2 full credit for coming in and looking great with this team, but there's no tape on him less than three years old and consider the opponent.

Mason has gotten much better! He stayed in the pocket! He climbed in the pocket instead of bailing early even with alot of traffic all around him! No happy feet, went through progressions, delivered the ball with timing and accuracy! Checked all the boxes in qb play! And everyone rallied to it!! Defensive guys talking about him after the game! Tomlin and all the other brass saw it and heard it!! His job to lose!!! Period! And maybe an offseason of prep with the starters! Then we would know what is possible?

The morale of the team is solely based on who the QB is. Everyone seems eh about Kenny. They all seem to rally around Mason. They all hate Mitch because they know he’s bad.

I think the players sort of lose respect for a coach whenever they see the best player on the bench. It’s really not too dissimilar from a horrible employee getting a promotion over every one else in the company.
The QB is essentially the “manager”. Would you want to work for a manager you thought was incompetent and didn’t deserve the job? This team played like they had a new manager they actually respected 💯

Just Keep Playing Mason who is the best pure pocket passer on the Team. He knows the offense, He has a strong arm, and Mason never played with weapons like Pickens, DJ, Muth, CAIII, Robinson, Washington, Heyward, Najee and Warren. He played with tik tok Juju and rookie DJ and His college buddy Washington. He should have been QB2 at the start of the year. The NFL is a league of Attrition. In 2023, the NFL has started the most back up QB's in NFL history. We need both Mason and K8P. Let them battle it out in 2024 for QB1. First, Re-Sign Mason to a 2 or 3 year Deal!
If the Steelers beat the Seahawks and Ravens. And Indy and Texans lose the next week. Steelers in the Playoffs. They are all 8-7.Colts vs Raiders and Texans vs Titans. The Raiders and Titans play hard. They are no easy victories.
KP8 is a winner Steelers were 7 -4. KP8 has 7 comeback 4th QTR wins. KP8 lead the Steelers to their first 400 yds game since 2020. The problem with KP8 is the OL particularly the CENTER position and more specific MASON COLE! Get a Pro Bowl Center and That will fix KP8 and allow him to go through his progression and step up in the Pocket and make better plays.

Good morning DK, hooe your Hokiday weekend was great. If im Tomlin I play my cards close to my vest as he likes to say, and do not name a starter till last minute. Make them orep for both guys. Let them double pickens ,Tae will eat em alive. A lot of fan base forgets just how good that guy is too. He's more rhan capapbke of taking over a game. And like you said let them play deep , they've got an answer for that as well.
    Here We Go Steelers !!!

I honestly don't know why people think this is rocket science. The offense is supposed to SUPPORT AND COMPLIMENT the defense. If you can actually SCORE, the other team MUST THROW THE BALL. If you have a good pass defense, THAT MEANS TURNOVERS AND TIME OF POSSESSION.
We did this in 2007 and 2012 against the Patriots (with Bruce Arians at OC). The Packers did it their Superbowl run.
We need to listen to Cowher, STOP TRYING TO REINVENT THE WHEEL. Unlike some of these DK analysts beliefs, we don't need a "modern" offense, we need a SCORING offense - period. Whether it comes from 2023 or 2004. The defense will do the rest.

Fact Steelers need a quality backup for next year. Start Mason to evaluate if he is indeed that guy. It’s a win win situation A. he keeps winning = playoffs B. It answers do we need to spend cap space on a veteran backup? (We all know Mitch is done in Pittsburgh)

Wouldn’t hate to see Rudolph get a start with Kenny still recovering. Keep Kenny as QB2 this next game. Worst case scenario Rudolph plays like the Rudolph that got him benched for Duck and then we toss Kenny back in. Best case scenario, he plays well and Kenny gets another week to rest the ankle.

I said last year before they drafted Pickett that mason should go into the season as the starter and then they signed Tribisky who's a bum. I never liked the drafting of pickett, hes to timid. Mason was 5-3-1 as a starter and the last 2 preseasons he looked like the best QB on the roster. People laughed at me. I see what my eyes tell me, and if Tomlin had started him 3 weeks ago, we would securely be in the playoffs.

I think the team was able to rally behind Mason because the team had the ultimate professional leading the team. By that I mean the way Mason has handled everything that has been dealt to him from being the perceived #1 after Bens departure to the 3rd string practice team QB who didn’t even suit up for most games and through it all never once complained or whined about his situation, but just played the hand that was dealt by continuing to work hard, be positive, be a team player, or in other words be the ultimate professional. Never to high, Never to low, just steady and constantly preparing for the day his number would called. I think the team watched all of this and we’re able to rally behind that because they knew by watching his story how deserving he was and they didn’t want to let him down, and they followed his example.

They are fully invested now? Why didn't they give a damn when it really counted against the Colts, Cardinals, and Patriots? They care now that it is too late? I'm sick of the mediocrity. I sick of the attitude, that the playoffs are just going to be handed to them. Earn something! Look like you belong in the playoffs.

Imagine that, decent QB play can lead to good things. It never crossed my mind. I'm not gonna pretend Rudolph is the answer though. We've seen him play the occasional good game. I'm not shocked by this. His stats were a bit inflated after a couple big plays from George. Don't think 'the guy' is on the roster yet.

My biggest fear is coming true…I know this sounds bad and un-fan like, but with all the other teams in the playoff race losing this weekend I can absolutely see the Steelers getting the last spot and then losing in the first round. The franchise and half the fans call it a successful season as they one upped last year and nothing changes at all. Tomlin gets an extension. Mike or Eddie become the new OC full time. Onto another 8-9 win year in 2024. It’s a holiday nightmare scenario. I hate seeing them lose and saying I want them to lose out, but no playoffs or a losing season is the only way for this franchise to make some real changes.
