Perhaps the most amazing thing about this video is that at the very height of the Golden Era of flamboyant leather and spandex-wearing lipstick and eye rouge hair metal shredders a seriously balding guy who looked like the night manager at your local Pizza Hut sporting a Beetlejuice blazer was cutting-heads, kicking ass, and taking names.
Exactly! The studio version hints at a good solo, but the song fades out as a ending. This solo is truly amazing. The speed and scale runs are some of the best live soloing you're likely to hear.
He demostrated what a great guitarist he is! Most people don't even imagine he is a supreme guitar player, one of the best rock and jazz guitar players ever!
My friend Christopher & Andy & Rob all haven't changed in over 40 yrs when I 1st met em in a group named Heather black @ Village Inn Pizza Parlor in Market Square downtown Houston. My all time fav song of his. Memories sweet memories
i was don't waiting nothing, but its happing the one best guitar solos that i hear today. i 'm drunk in peddro leopoldo, minas gerais - brazil - 03/2024

Last October after my sisters wedding, sitting at the balcony of my hotel in Huntington Beach drinking henny at 1am, looking over the ocean and partying, discovered this song. Its in my too ten for sure now, it was the perfect cap to an amazing evening. This version is amazing. All those people here, their ears were blessed with an absolute banger. 🥂

Christopher Cross is one of my all time favorite artists! I grew up with his songs & every time I hear one it takes me back to my youth in the nicest way!!
Época de Ouro, quando ainda si, havia músicas como estas produzidas com o coração e um pouco da alma. O artista ele nascia, não era forçado a se expor como produto para a midia como hoje. Saudades sempre deste belo tempo.
back when all you needed was musical talent and great songs with looks being secondary. now its so inverted. you actually get condemned or punished for being able to actually fuckin play & write great songs.
A wailing, nimble fingered blistering solo. Truly great improvising. Sort of Frampton meets Page meets McLaughlin in terms of sound, speed, tone and emotion.
Master class in running scales while using the pinky finger. So many guitarists just use the middle three. Absolutely killer solo. Knew there was a monster solo somewhere out there based on the countless times I heard the studio top 40 version with the fade out, but decent solo, ending much too soon.
@@nicodio2709You are right about training the pinky finger, I’m a bass player and it took me a long time of tireless repetition to get it, but I’m so glad I did it. Cross is an outstanding player, so are a lot of players from this 70s/80s soft rock era, many were session players as well. Rick Beato(was right about the mix) didn’t bring to light anything people like you or I didn’t already know in regards to Cross’ musicianship.
You’re right that’s one of the reasons I’ve watched this video over and over again I’ve lost count how many times seen it the whole video is terrific, but when it gets to his guitar solo WOW He just kills it. Amazing guitar player. 😎👍
It's pretty crazy considering that asians are not the most emotional people on earth. For those who don't know, especially in Japan, showing emotions is seen as a weakness. It's a remnant of the warrior culture.
LMAO best comment ever!!! You my friend would enjoy Billie Joel's first night in moscow video. Imagine 1986, height of the cold war and you are the first American band invited to play. KGB followed him everywhere. He said the Politburo old farts of course took the front row seats instead of the kids that actually enjoyed that type of music, within 5 minutes of him playing, they walked out!! LOL Talk about insulting... :-D Not one fuck was given in Soviet Russia that night or ever Comrades!!
You are so correct, My Grandpa went to the main island of Japan to have the surrender papers delivered and ALL the soldiers were facing away from them when they arrived, not one looked at them. He said the Marines were scared to death since they were outnumbered 1,000 to one and they thought the Japanese soldiers were planning an ambush. Turned out they believed they didn't have the honor to look into their victors eyes. Must have been truly terrifying for the first couple of hours though...
Great performance of a great song. At least the audience is mainly clapping (correctly) on the backbeat unlike so many European audiences who seem unable to even hear the backbeat let alone occasionally syncopate timing!
Great live version of this song. They so screwed up the original mixing of the album version. They need to re-release properly bringing up Chris’ guitar outtro.
Lo que la organisacion del festival de viña 1987 se perdio por no haber hecho antes .cuando se decia por traer a este tremendo artista buenonen su lugar trajeron a otro grande como el ya fallecido EDDIE MONEY

#Beetlejuice Rocks!
Perfectly said, does anyone know if this is available on Blu-ray or DVD I would love to have it😎👍
Perfeito!!!!!
Perfectly in time with music venues putting an end to ultra violent, destructive music acts.
Why glam rock was so popular.
That Part…Don’t Count Nobody Out.😂😂😂😂
I feel like Chris's guitar skills are overlooked. He's great.
Have you seen Rick Beato's video about Chrisopher Cross's guitar solo? Well worth watching. There's an interview with CC too.
@@dizzylizzy7582 He obviously watched it, then came here, and posted the comment.
That is one badass song and even a more badass guitar solo he absolutely killed it!
great guitarist too! solo built
quite with pentatonic riffs
holy GOD THIS SOLO, this is top 5 perfomances of all time
Knocks the shit out of me every time I play (lost count). Blistering and inventive improvisation is putting it mildly.
A song that will be around as long as the sun shines.
❤😊timeless❤
I was not prepared for that guitar solo.
Exactly! The studio version hints at a good solo, but the song fades out as a ending. This solo is truly amazing. The speed and scale runs are some of the best live soloing you're likely to hear.
I just noticed best/quality concerts from the past are always in Japan
You’re right about that the one thing that I love about Japanese people is there extremely kind and polite.
Oh man yes! He absolutely SMOKED that guitar solo. Gifted.
I agree he absolutely killed it what a great guitar solo!

He should be in some kind of music Hall of Fame.
Best live version ever for Ride like the Wind.
Agreed, deserves a lot more likes.
It's better when Michael McDonald backs him up!!✌😎

It is the night
My body's weak
I'm on the run
No time to sleep
I've got to ride
Ride like the wind
To be free again
And I've got such a long way to go (such a long way to go)
To make it to the border of Mexico
So I'll ride like the wind
Ride like the wind
I was born the son of a lawless man
Always spoke my mind with a gun in my hand
Lived nine lives
Gunned down ten
Gonna ride like the wind
And I've got such a long way to go (such a long way to go)
To make it to the border of Mexico
So I'll ride like the wind
Ride like the wind
Gonna ride like the wind
Accused and tried and told to hang
I was nowhere in sight when the church bells rang
Never was the kind to do as I was told
Gonna ride like the wind before I get old
It is the night
My body's weak
I'm on the run

An 'anti-hero' and his band giving a perfect performance. What a great song!
His guitar 🎸playing is so underrated
VERY UNDERRATED, his tone reminds me a little of Eric Johnson

This is what I'm talking about! Perfect ! Wow that solo !! Ripping !!
The Ba ba ba baaa section has always been so cool. Great fun to pick your own harmony amongst that lot and sing along.
I think it's ba da da da, not ba ba ba ba
Always enjoyed to see Mr.Cross performed guitar solo.
Damn. Who the hell knew Cross could shred like that?. Damn.
Rick knew
Also was the original owner of the 62 Strat that became SRV #1
Nostalgic , memories frozen in time listening to these unmatched songs ❤

Same here.

Last song played at St George Leagues Club during the late 70's. God, but I miss those days ...
I love this song and Christopher has so much darn talent that I wished that I had....
man i miss being in my 20's!!
The story is, a session guy recorded a solo but Chris decided he wanted to do it instead. And honestly it was a good call.
Excellent call!
He was all over it then hops into the mic for some baap- bahs. Too smooth. Legend performance
this is the only version that is REAL MUSIC-traveling music-great to dance to
back when all you needed was musical talent and great songs with looks being secondary.
now its so inverted. you actually get condemned or punished for being able to actually fuckin play & write great songs.
About talent,not image,annoys me,that this man ,isn't better known,multi talented.
That is some seriously sick guitar shredding at the end of the song! Wow, who knew Christopher Cross was such a prolific guitar player.
Personne ne s'est rendu compte qu'il était un des grands guitaristes de la fin des années 70.
A moment of silence for those who still don't know how bad Christopher Cross can shred
A wailing, nimble fingered blistering solo. Truly great improvising. Sort of Frampton meets Page meets McLaughlin in terms of sound, speed, tone and emotion.

This is great!!!!!!!!!!!! Love it..............Thanks
All these years later, I don’t think I quite knew this was Christopher Cross. I knew Arthur’s theme and Sailing was but not this one
Chris can shred with the best of them.
love this for roadtrips..awesome !
and crowd goes crazy
If you call a bunch of folks staring blankly and clapping their hands in unison crazy, lol!
It's pretty crazy considering that asians are not the most emotional people on earth.

Wrong
Colombia is the real first star here.
Michael McDonald is missing. Perhaps he got still a long way to go to make it to the gig.
Haha yeah really looks like he's in Vietnam or the Philippines based on the crowd
Ripping with two Dumble amps 💪
grandios
I have four words for everyone... Rick Beato was right.
It's just not the same without Michael McDonald.
Great live version of this song. They so screwed up the original mixing of the album version. They need to re-release properly bringing up Chris’ guitar outtro.
Chris is looking pretty lean here.
Yeah, he took off a few pounds it seems.
Does anyone know if the full concert is available on Blu-ray or DVD I would love to have it. Thanks.
