Great scary job Darren! I well remember first spring I removed with clamps but it was fitted under the wing of a car. The Gas unit is best left to a specialist unless you have some to hand and a pressure unit. When its together the spring is under load (compressed and can be adjusted for fine tuning by the lower nuts), when your on the bike and riding along you are the downward force (and the bike weight) against that spring. When you go over a bump, gas is pressurised and pushes against the forces at a slow rate so you get a comfy ride (bit more to it but…). Do as your doing and paint up, don’t get any on the piston rod (shiny part that goes up and down) it will rot the seal inside. Hope that helps others may offer more but looking good. Stay well.

Not a job I’ve ever taken on, but you made it look easy! 👏
Looking good Darren. Great attention to detail. Bike is going to look mint when it's all together. Great work.
Expensive items to replace well worth a refurb.
