The film is Death In Venice (1971) and was based on the 1912 novel by Thomas Mann, who wrote it in an Italian hotel while undergoing an existential crises as he had just recently become obsessed with a beautiful 11 year old Polish boy who was staying at the hotel. Other inspirations behind the story were his actual attractions to his very young son. There was also rumors that the Mann family had generations worth of inbreeding but those are just rumors.
I think this is a accute representation of human longing for a higher beauty. the real story is even more disturbing. the boy was a polish baron (only 11) and the man was thomas mann, the famous author. even though nothing happened, he was totally obsessed with the kid and wrote the book this film is based on. look it up in wikipedia.
This movie looks so good visually but unfortunately it left a big trauma to Björn Andrésen. A story of much child abuse. 50 years later, a documentary called the most beautiful boy in the world was released, where Björn narrates the story from his place as a victim. Two producers had the idea of making the documentary when they knew a little about his history, but it took them 6 years to get Björn to open up and tell everything he lived through after participating in that damn movie. The price of beauty and fame was very high for a boy so young and unprotected.
At the beginning it seemed to me that the song wasn’t chosen well, but, after watching and rewatching more than 10 times, I’m sure that this is a perfect match! Thank you very much for making this video! It’s fabulous!
Your comment is interesting but the more I think about it, I realize Tadzio's perspective doesn't exist because Aschenbach's entire experience is a subjective illusion. Tadzio is just going about his life, so there wouldn't be much to tell. In other words, it isn't a story that involves the both of them. Tadzio is completely oblivious and Aschenbach is suffering with a complete fiction, and of course, on a deeper level, with himself and his deterioration.
Michaelangelo would’ve gone TO TOWN on this boy. He is stunning and as an older man he’s still very very beautiful. Who knew that this movie would change his life… you should read about “The most beautiful boy in the world” I’m going to watch that documentary/film…

It's saddening to see how an innocent young boy was expolited and how his beauty was turned into a curse rather than a gift because of what people did with it! People can get so blinded by beauty so they can't see the person behind the face! And don't we all want someone to see us and love us....
I do not plan on watching this movie. I discovered this film on a contemporary film site (criterion) really great for old cinema but girl let me tell you when I saw the preview clips it just seemed so “off”.
It's so gross that it took so long for people to acknowledge what happened to this kid, and how people think it's not a big deal just because he's a boy. As if young boys don't feel trauma?? Yes, he is a beautiful kid, but that's IT - I think he's cute in a motherly kind of way. No adult should EVER knowingly lust over a damn adolescent no matter what they look like 🙅🏻♀️
yes, he was handsome during his youth. We all get old and beauty fades. Just like everyone else. We have to stop dehumanizing someone just because they are beautiful or gorgeous. God definitely favored those people, but, we also have to learn how to appreciate our own beauty. People back then didn't have cameras or modern equipment to see that everyone is actually beautiful. RIGHT
Same thing I was saying.
I wondered what language it was being sung is, as I couldn't understand a word. There's nothing attractive about this kind of mumbling, nonsensical delivery.
it seems like beauty is also connected to looking gender neutral. they just fit in everything.
Gender Neutral? He looks like a girl. The most prettiest girls tend to look VERY feminate, not borderline a man.

midsommar theres him as an old man

😭😭

Sometimes people often forgot that no matter how beautiful the person is, they're still humans with actual feelings too.
Bjorn doesn't deserve that at all, he was a minor but treated horribly by a lot of perverts.
Sometimes beauty can be a curse
this romanticization of beauty is madness...look what they did to this kid is unforgivable, and people still loving that.
how a person can be this beautiful?
Now I understand the phrase “dangerous beauty”
Reminds me of something I just read… “beauty is a blessing but a lot of people who has it, it works against them because people don’t know how to use it”
Exactly
the fact that he was exploit for his beauty and sexualized at a young age and now his is lost on who he really is very saddening 😔😔
I think I can understand the obsession around him as a young boy... He represents the beauty, the youth, the bright side of the life where opportunities are blooming ... So I understand old men -sad and disappointed are looking for a blessing , a sun in their lives
There’s nothing more captivating than tragic beauty
Beauty isn’t a blessing. It’s a curse.
Okay I'm sorry, but is that old man stalking him as his writing subject for some reason and in lose term "admiring" the boy from afar? It's making me... How do I say it? Uh gross
Edit: I found a fun fact about him. Apparently bc of his good looks at that time, he's extremely popular in Japan that makes Japanese started using him as their inspirations of male anime faces. I don't watch anime, but it's fun to know now. I can't believe he's that impactful at that age.
Edit 2: I've watched the movie and I seriously can't even- hu- I'm watching it behind a pillow trying to press my computer to keep skipping some parts, but everything is a skip worthy. I feel sick to my stomach. And the boy didn't even talk much in that film. He got the least line, probably half of my entire comment right now ngl.

Yes, and unfortunately art imitated life. This poor kid went through a *lot.*

fun fact : he is the oldman that jumped on midsommar
I'm traumatized now🤠
This movie looks so good visually but unfortunately it left a big trauma to Björn Andrésen. The price of beauty and fame was very high for a boy so young and unprotected.
i can't look at him without thinking about all the things that happened to him
he is the exact example that beauty can be a curse.
At the beginning it seemed to me that the song wasn’t chosen well, but, after watching and rewatching more than 10 times, I’m sure that this is a perfect match! Thank you very much for making this video! It’s fabulous!
This boy just called me ugly in 20 different languages😭

I need a creative crackhead energy retelling of this book from Tadzio’s perspective and I’ve been saying this for years but nothing ever happens
I met a guy who looked exactly like him but with darker hair. He plays the piano well too. I wish i could post his pic here so u guys could see.
I remember when he appeared in midssomar (2019) and everyone was like "look how beautiful he looked when he was younger!". I had no idea about his life story.
The young actor who plays the kid in the sailor suit is actually the face behind every good looking anime guy and he had endure so much😢

This montage captures all that was good about the original film "Death in Venice," and leaves out the extraneous. Well done.

I LOVE THE JUXTAPOSITION BETWEEN THE TITLE ‘UGLY’ AND HOW BJÖRN WAS DUBBED ‘THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BOY IN THE WORLD’ 🔥🔥🔥
yes, he was handsome during his youth. It was easy to exaggerate something so people can easily be influenced.
Cuando sonríe es todo un niño feliz. Pero cuando está serio es un hombre más encantador.❤️❤️❤️
