They only know how to say the usual three stupid stereotypical sentences: "this movie ruined Bjorn's life, the movie is a platonic metaphor for lost youth, Gustav is an old pedophile". This may be true for the novel but not for Visconti's film. The latter is a story of tenderness and passion between an adult and a teenager which unfortunately (for now) does not have a happy ending. No he was not raped by his co-workers. The boy in this video is Björn Andrésen, a Swedish boy who became famous overnight for his acting role in Luchino Visconti's 1971 film Death in Venice. The main gist of the movie is of a man, Gustav von Aschenbach, as he visits Venice and encounters this underaged teenage Polish boy Tadzio (whom Björn plays), and he becomes obsessed with him. As you can see, really creepy pedophilic undertones already. Björn was 15 at the time of the film's release, and blew up in popularity almost immediately because of his stunningly gorgeous looks, which earned him the nickname "The Most Beautiful Boy In The World". He was particularly famous in Japan, that he inspired the culture of 'bishounen' anime characters, or males, usually young males, with typically androgynous/feminine features. This life of stardom and fame, as described by Björn himself, destroyed his life as he was constantly showered with a lot of romantic and sexual attention. He felt as though Visconti had sexualized him, on set and in the film, lowered him into a mere object for audiences to fantasize about. And that was exactly what happened. Visconti also pressured him into attending a gay club even though he was straight, and was also a teenager. He was constantly and uncomfortably stared at by all the adult men there. There was a documentary, titled "The Most Beautiful Boy In The World" recently made about Björn and also featuring him, and it describes his difficult struggles and experiences holding such a title and the fame that came along with it. Björn is now 69 and married with a loving wife and kids, though had had to deal with depression and alcoholism for a long time. He's had other acting roles since, and you might also recognize him from a minor role he had in Midsommar.
