Today I’m looking at the Nikon Coolpix B700 Superzoom camera. The Nikon Coolpix B700 is meant to be a Bridge camera that is designed for people who want something that’s much better than a smartphone or point-n-shoot, but aren’t ready to step up to a DSLR or mirrorless. It also has 4K video capability, so it could also pretty easily replace the family camcorder. More about the 4K video in a minute.The Nikon Coolpix B700 is a nice, chunky camera with a very deep rubberized grip. The combination of the deep rubberized grip and good balance make it pretty easy to hold and use, even with one hand. Its body is made entirely of black matte plastic and seems pretty ruggedly built. It has a 60x nikkor powerzoom lens on the front and I’ll show you how the zoom performs in a minute. Now the powerzoom can be operated either using the zoom toggle built around the shutter button or the zoom button on the side of the lens. I actually prefer the shutter toggle, as it seems to keep the camera steadier when zooming. The top also has the on-off button and a mode selector dial. The popup flash is also built into this surface and has a pair of stereo microphones on top of it. I like that they have the video record button positioned so that you can hit record very easily. And like DSLRs it has a built-in adjuster dial, since the Nikon B700 also allows you change shutter speed, aperture and iso manually. And the other buttons on the back are also pretty reminiscent of a DSLR. And this doesn’t mean its complicated to use, just that the buttons are laid out like on a DSLR. Now one of the nicest features on the Nikon B700 is the flippable 3.0 inch articulating screen, which is great for taking selfies and more importantly vlogging. And the quality of the screen is very good- it’s very sharp and bright enough to use outdoors, which is where this camera is mostly going to be used. The only issue with the screen is that it isn’t a touchscreen. It would have been nice to have the ability to touch to focus or specify your focus area. It’s not a huge issue but definitely something I missed. The Nikon B700 also has an electronic viewfinder. The viewfinder is decent. Probably not the sharpest viewfinder on the market, but more than adequate for taking photos. The viewfinder also has a built in eye sensor that senses your eyes and automatically switches from the screen to the viewfinder. Pull away and it switches back automatically. The Nikon Coolpix B700 is powered by an EL23 battery pack that lives in this compartment on the bottom, with the SD card. What I don’t like about NIkon’s base kit is that it doesn’t come with a standalone wall battery charger. Instead they provide a USB cable and wall adapter so you have to plug into the camera to charge it. I really recommend getting a standalone charger so you can swap batteries out. And the battery life isn’t fantastic, so I’d definitely recommend buying a few spares. I’ll leave links to both the charger and batteries below. The Nikon Coolpix B700 can also be mounted to tripods with a ¼-20 tripod thread. And just a quick note about the SD cards it can use. You’ll need use an SD card with a UHS class 3 rating, if you plan to record 4K video. I’ll leave a link to one that’ll work, below this video.

how to do bokeh effect in this camera?
Jayabrata Raja It isn't great for Bokeh effect, because of the apature. If you really want bokeh I would use the Macro scene mode and get really close to the subject
are you able to plug it into a computer to use as a moniter? if so, how
I bought one from my friend and I'm pretty pleased with it. I'm not too good at using cameras so I'm sure learning a bit more will help me with producing better quality 😌

Just got my B700 out of storage & needed a refresher course. You covered everything very well & I'm glad I found you. I plan to shoot wildlife and landscape & thing this older camera will do quite nicely.

I have the b500 and i love it 😊 the b500 only has 40x zoom and it's soo well, I actually take beautiful pictures of the moon!! so a 60x on a upgraded camera makes me equivalent to NASA and being able to see see what's out in space 😂😂
Between this camera and the Panasonic LUMIX FZ80 which one is better based on features and image quality. Cause I was seeing some sample pictures of both cameras and the ones from the lumix were much better. I’m trying to buy one of these can you tell me your opinion

Gearfacts I purchased the b500 mainly because it's a point and shoot and with a built in 40x (22.5mm to 900 mm) optical zoom however, I'm now wishing I'd bought the b700 for a few reasons. 1). Longer Zoom: 60x 24 to 1440mm 2). Higher resolution sensor, 20 Megapixel 3). RAW mode 4). More versatile screen 5). Electronic viewfinder, which the b500 doesn't have. 6). More exposure modes. 7). 4K movies.
There isn't much difference in weight, the b700 is slightly heavier 570g, which I think is an added advantage when hand holding the camera. For the difference in price, I feel it's worth it.
Thank you for the review of the Nikon B700. Based on your review, you actually hit many of the high points of my decision to go ahead and purchase this camera. I was weighing between this and the others you mentioned and many years ago, I owned a Nikon FE 35mm, so I was leaning to Nikon anyways. I have two teenage boys and very active in sports and band. The only thing I would suggest is more on the action shot features, but from other sources, I believe this camera will fit my need.

According to the B-700 manual, it also records in lower frames per second for that cinema movie look. Here a few of the specifications Ultra-HD (30fps and 25fps) ... Full-HD(60fps/50fps/30fps/ and 25 frames per second). That is a real wide variety of speeds.

Nice review. I have just bought one of these and I am very impressed by the zoom and low light photography that it offers. To get the most out of the 60x zoom you definitely need a tripod. Very nice all round camera. I would recommend.

Nice i'm a P900 owner, and I am a big fan of the zoom, and hope an upgrade of this camera come out soon, with 4k video, raw support and full manual, instead of restricted. I also hope it come with a mount for a flash light, and microphone jack for recording videos or at least bluetooth connection so I can connect blutooth mic.

I bought this camera a week ago and my experience is very good. For the price it is an excellent camera. It's perfect to take on vacation. It is important to emphasize that the confection with my iPhone is perfect. It was connected very fast and it is an added value to have your photos instantly taken on the iPhone. I recommend this product for those who need an intermediate camera.
Great review, had this camera for a year now, really recommend, simple to use. The app worked for me, however the remote control feature didn't work, since replacing my phone, the remote control feature works, however couldn't connect via NFC and wished I could transfer videos directly from camera to phone via app, only photos transfer via wifi

Please tell me which is better? this camera or a same priced video camera (camcorder) for taking videos like Panasonic V 180
Took this camera to the Grand Canyon fall of 2017 and it performed splendidly. The 4K video was just spectacular and the RAW images were excellent. Would recommend it to anyone wanting a camera with an extended zoom that takes both good pictures and videos.

I have come across a pretty sweet deal for this camera, however could you tell me whether this camera can also be used as a webcam? That is the deciding factor for me
So im looking forward to buying the coolpix B700 (currently i use the coolpix L340) and I have a few questions
1. I heard that when the flash is down it makes a (continual) ticking noise when recording and you can hear it in the audio I assume thats the camera focusing but im not sure but is that true?
2. When your recording and have the screen fli[[ed out toward the lens, does the preview go from one side of the screen or the other?
^^^^^ I ask that because I have the A900 for vlogging, and when you have the screen flipped up and your recording it makes the preview in a smaller box hat doesn't go from one side of the screen to the other if that makes any sense....
Great review, my back up Nikon s8000 is really playing up so looking for a bridge to replace it for those days I'm not bothered to carry my DSLR plus extra lens

1.) How quickly is it ready to take photos from the time you turn it on.
2.) How much lag is there in the autofocus and or the taking of the photo from the time the button was pushed? I have missed so many great shots due to those and I want a better camera this time around...also considering the Sony a6000..…

To date, I have taken well over a thousand shots and experimented in various modes, photograph types etc.
There is sure to be a mode that suits any photographer that no longer wants to carry the weight that a DSLR user takes in their stride. Yes the DSLR sensors will almost always win but the in use flexibility cannot be beaten.
If the camera proves the test of time (and only time and reliability will tell), this might be a super zoom classic.

xpander... Yes I have taken more than 2,000 photographs and some as experimental test shots for my own discovery as to its limitations.
Some of the default but reprogrammable semi-automatic modes needed a tweak for my taste but overall the camera performed better than expected.
I wanted a light weight all purpose device and this so far has done the job very well indeed. Time only tells for reliability and I have had the camera only from September 2018.
I bought the Nikon B 700 and just luv it , the zoom is incrediable , ... v easy to use .... : )

Thank you for the suggestion on the battery information. If I get this one I will get a separate charger and a couple extras because I have found that as years go by it can be difficult to find replacements.

I am a rank beginner and needed a good zoom camera for an African safari in 2018. I also have the Sony RX10 III which takes very good photos -- but I was not happy with the zoom range, or the weight of the camera. For this trip, I wanted something I can hold in one hand without fatigue. I was not disappointed with this camera -- photos were clear and sharp, I got some really extraordinary shots that actually look almost professional. Once a a while, the color didn't come through so well. I am taking this camera again to South Africa and Botswana, and though there is better technology on the market, I am confident that this little camera will give me what I need. I bought this camera partly based on your review. I couldn't be happier! The image quality is outstanding! It captures images just as well as my Brothers Nikon DSLR, but I have way more zoom. I use snap bridge with my Android phone, it Bluetooth connected very easy. ( Android vs Apple ?) Thanks for the very informative vlog. You were spot on. Excellent camera!

I'm looking for a camera that will snap the photograph immediately when I push the button. Also, I would like a camera that has the ability to take another picture very quickly...the one I have now takes several seconds between shots. I'm also curious about the battery pack, does it keep a charge as long as AA batteries?

I have recently acquired the L840 and wanted to ask if my zoom lens is exactly the same as the B700, and yes i am a complete novice just learning about what you will regard and proper camera,s,I ask because when shooting at full zoom i don,t seem to get the sharpness i would like,cheers from the uk.

Just got this because as a craft YTuber I really wanted a camera with a 360 screen. Other than that I have been very happy with my Panasonic FZ35, which I think has better stabilisation for long shots without a tripod. This is a general upgrade on my old camera, is easy to learn and I'm looking forward to using it on a daily basis (need to get a new SD card!)

How does this compare to the Lumix Fz80? I know this has further zoom, but the Lumix has iZoom, and all the other great Panasonic video features.

You said to use at least a UHS class 3 for 4k vids. But strange that i'm using a Lexar 64 gb at 95 M/S class 10 and UHS 1 instead of 3. It's working anyway. maibe the reading writing speed cover that bottleneck?

You should be able to do so using a Nikon app

I just upgraded from the B500 to the B700, so I am still learning its features. I still have to take it out on a photo shoot to see how it does. It is a bit heavier than the B500 and the flippable screen opens like a door on the B700, which on the B500 it came out from the center of the back of the camera and could be adjusted up and down. The flippable screen on the B700 will definitely be used when we do our videos for our travel business. Your review is excellent of the B700 and I learned a few things too. I gave my dad the B500, so both cameras are in the family. ;)
