  • I come to a complete hault on the trail, my tires are digging into the snow, my rear tire is spinning, and that's where we begin! What should you do in this situation?
    If you ride groomed trails then Fat Biking is just a slower version of MTB and anyone can do it with just a bit more effort ;) Will you have fun? That's up to you. This video is about enjoying Fat Biking on mixed use trails & non-prepped surfaces.

    I use a digital electronic pump and adjust my pressure from 3 to 7 psi depending on the conditions. Very easy to use on the trail. For icy conditions I have a studded front wheel. Ive used it twice this winter. My main wheelset is Bud and Lou 26 x 4.8

    You MUST try some groomed trails - they are magical, making normal rooty and rocky trails into paved awesomeness.

      Thanks! You’ll probably want to check out where I hit up some groomed single-track in the snow then :) We had a lot of fun 🤩

    Exact conditions at HAFTA yesterday.
    I would say you could have gone with 6-8psi, I have kept mine very high, much heavier than you, so, figure I would try full pressure to see how it went. Not sure if it made a difference given the conditions. Would have to try groomed trails and see how it went.
    Was just happy to get out on my new to me fat bike finally!
    Agree though, unless you enjoy outdoor winter activities, a fat bike may not be the right purchase.
    Not sure how buying a bike can be a wrong purchase.....but that's just me. 😅

    • @BikingwithJP
      @BikingwithJP  8 месяцев назад +3

      I started with about 6-8psi and got stuck. I was frustrated for a second thinking well this fat bike is useless if I can’t get this to work. Aired down twice actually before I could get going at all. No idea what mine final air pressure was - the correct pressure was the one that got me moving again ;)
      I think a lot of people get a fat bike and expect it to be much less effort or to go quicker OR they find out the best riding conditions are too cold for them. Those people shouldn’t be surprised if they don’t enjoy it lol. I love it. You sound like you had a great time out as well. For us it’s an amazing way to keep biking all year round. Absolutely this fat bike is a major step up in snow performance over my 29er MTB even with upgraded 2.5” wide Maxxis. I made it work last year but this is a whole new level.

      @bryanfulcher7162 thanks, good tips :) This was the most air I ever had to let out due to trail conditions. Thankfully this was the most difficult snow conditions I e encountered. Groomed trails I could have a lot more air in and get rolling easier. Glad you enjoyed feel free to sub for more. Glad you are loving your Fat Bike 🤘

      Thanks man - once I lowered the tire pressure it just gripped the top of the snow pack and climbed up the hill no problems. I mean, lots of power required so I was dying from that 😅 but other than that it was great!
      Have you thought about getting a Fat Bike? We’ve already been out to The Pines 2024! Hitting jumps on a fully rigid haha 😅Would be nice to have more fatties to ride with :)

    Hi J.P. We met a few weeks ago at the Pines. If I could only have one bike, it would be my Norco Bigfoot 1S. It is a blast in any conditions. It looked as if you might have dropped a little more pressure than needed. That can also make it a tough slog. I was out for a few hours at the Pines on Tuesday and was running about 5 to 6 lbs. with no issues in fresh snow. Keep playing with the pressures and you will get them dialed, and have a riot! Don't give up!

      Hey Jim! It was nice meeting you at The Pines the other week :) Absolutely I let out too much. What I cut out in the video was I tried to get going multiple times and airing down more each time until I could get going again. But the last time I let out a bit too much in the rear as I was frustrated I couldn’t get going. Went a bit overboard - Ooops. Riding at the pines was muuuch easier than this trail. Too many footsteps such. The Pines is very nice - I’ll be back! At least after the rain turns back to snow again :)
