    I’m sorry but this review feels like your opinion is based on the price and not on what you feel, it doesn’t feel like you respect the instrument enough to make a fair review on it

    I recently wanted to get into ukelele after playing piano, guitar and bass for 6 years. Bought mine for $90 and didn’t even come with a box lmao (Australia), however I’ve come to love it as I’ve progressed with the instrument over the past 5 months. I’ve switched to some Aquila reds, and it sounds awesome

    I think it is down to the strings and the ears and preference of the player. What sounds great for me might not be good at all to someone else and vice versa. I got one and I agree 100% with the cheap $4 tuners. I am looking on Amazon for replacement tuners.

    Hi Barry. Interesting review. I have one of these beasties. Mine has a Dark satin type finish as someone else reported, I completely agree about the cheap tuners. I was a bit taken aback by the comment about not properly tuning ukes you don't much care for. The fuzzyness in tone you observed with your strum I think is on you. Yes it is there but the beauty of a baritone is in the fingerpicking and drop thumb. I have found that if you approach playing this size uke as if it were a guitar, you can get a better sound and add a depth of play in ensemble work. At $87,50 this is a pretty good deal for an entry level Baritone. Cheers mate!

      When you get around to the Deering Banjulele I expect you will find it has a narrower nut. I look forward to your evaluatin of this ?feature?.

      I have reviewed the Deering Tommy - a while back - no longer have it in my possession so can't measure the nut - but I recall it was wider than most to be honest.

    You did a very good review. My daughter found a Mahalo baritone uke on Craigslist and gave to me around 3 yrs ago. Mine doesn't have the glossy finish like the one you reviewed. I have had no problems with the tuners. Do you find that the action is a little high on yours? I had mine lowered as much as it can be but still seems a little high. Anyways, great review as usual and look forward to more.

      +Ben Goff Action and setup generally on this one was spot on actually.

    You hear
    the strings with very little tone. It sounds floppy, and yes muddy. No distinct mid range, and no bell tones in the high range. Un like the K1 you reviewed which blew me away because it was pure tone which made me forget about the nylon strings.

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  6 лет назад

      Yeah - totally lifeless sound. Very disappointing.

    Good review, and I was wondering if you could recommend a ukulele that is under $100 and is a good one to take on a road trip? I only have one ukulele, and I wanted to know what would be a decent model to take with me, like a cheap Makala/Mahalo or a plastic ukulele?

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  8 лет назад +2

      +DestinedOblivion Personally - I would stick to Makala (or for that budget a full on Kala model) - extremely reliable really. The plastic ones lose a bit on the tone, but they are indestructible. The Makala dolphin though - cheap such that you would not worry if damaged, but sounds good too!

      I have concert size - Oscar Schmidt Ukulele for $49.00 from Amazon, sounds good, take on trip all the times and stay tuned pretty well

    Put a Scott brite pad on it lightly to remove the glossy look.

    • @GotAUkulele

      I think the gloss is the least of its problems!

    could you do a review on the Clearwater les Paul ukulele... tempted to buy one

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  8 лет назад

      +Samuel Talbot-Cross Will add to the list - I get so many requests for reviews it may not be possible - obviously I don't buy all of these and rely on the goodwill of brands to lend me things. I am however trying to persuade Clearwater!

    • @samtalbot-cross2621
      @samtalbot-cross2621 8 лет назад +1

      What do you think of Clearwater as a brand because it looks gorgeous but obviously you can't hear it through Amazon 😂😂

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  8 лет назад +1

      +Samuel Talbot-Cross The reality is i am not sure Clearwater are a true brand - they tend to re-badge stuff that is available from other makers. For example the Korala Explore I reviewed on this channel is also available as a Clearwater - exactly the same. That said - I know two professional performers who use and swear by Clearwaters (both Baritones) on stage.

    Is this ukulele worth buying?

    Hi Barry, The uke sounds out of tune,

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  6 лет назад

      It does - that’s the poor build and poor intonation. It’s in tune at the nut. Would be utterly pointless for me to do a review that isn’t in tune from the off!

    I'm watching more and more of your reviews and informational videos. I've come into one of these Mahalos for very little money as it needs to be restrung. I'm wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a string set that complements this ukelele's personality. Thanks!!!

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  7 лет назад +2

      No such thing as a string set that suits one uke - it's too subjective. Your own playing style and your own ear have far more say in how they sound to YOU!

    • @sixdogbob543
      @sixdogbob543 7 лет назад

      I agree in general with that- however, now that I have your "ear", since you tested this baritone U320B I thought you might have a starting place for me as this will be my first string purchase. Much like you I'd prefer an unwound set in standard DGBE tuning. I totally understand if this is too specific a question- just thought I'd try. Thanks again!!!

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  7 лет назад +1

      I don't i'm afraid - no, I dont like wound strings, but thats a slightly different point. Case in point / example. The most widely known string brand on the planet is Aquila - they are terrifically made and huge numbers of people like them. But here's the thing - I don't get on with them. That doesn't make all those people wrong - just an example of how no one persons string recommednation can really work. Best thing is buy a few distinct sets and test them against each other. Trust your own ears, not somebody elses.

      @sixdogbob543 7 лет назад

      I appreciate your viewpoint. I think I'll start with a mainstream set from Aquila and then explore from there. We'll see how it goes. Many thanks for the information you provide on RUclips and on your website.

    Your review sucks. I have been playing this same Mahalo baritone for 7yrs. The sound quality of the Mahalo baritone is uniquely its own and should remain that and not a carbon copy of another. You strum it with hate, you offer no feel or respect to the quality of this uke. Cheap as it may be, it still is a great sounding baritone, if played with the feel and respect it deserves.
