Thank you so much, you must of read my mind. I am starting a painting for a show in January and I needed more info on pan pastel techniques. I love the way you know just the amount of pressure and how you hold the tools. I hope mine will be half as good as yours. Carol

Jason, I just discovered your RUclips videos. I love your excitement and joy, and how encouraging you are to those who are just starting out. Wonderful artist and an amazing teacher. Also, having been born in Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 (but mostly brought up in USA), I could listen to your accent all day! Thank you for sharing all your talents.

You are a brilliant, pure talent!!!!! You are the spirit of Rembrandt. I watch your videos. Each one, is a free lesson to all of us,even i`m drawing, painting since 80s. I used to paint with acrylics[portraits] and for landscapes i used oil colors. But you show me a new style with soft pastels, pen pastels and now with pan pastels,or all together. I used to mixed up different materials, but your way its a new path to me.I would like to thank you for helping me,following a new direction to my art. Thanks a lot Jason. YOU ARE A BIG BIG BIG TALENT!!!! GOD BLESS YOU!!!!

I had to laugh every time you said “you really don’t need a massive set of PanPastels” because I just ordered the big set, I think its 80 colors, and I can’t wait for it to get here so I can start working with them. I’m floored at how real the lemur looks, phenomenal!

Although I've never thought of a lemur being "attractive", I have to say that watching you put him together with purple and other unexpected colors I wouldn't have dreamed of, you have created a really beautiful picture. You are quite the talent. I've never had any training but I'd love to be able to do what you do. You make it look so easy too. I'm subscribed and following you and can't wait to see your other work. Thank you so much for sharing your time and talent with us!

I bought pan pastels a few months ago and couldn't get the hang of them, but having watched your terrific video I am going to give them another go! I love using pastels and pastel pencils too. I have painted many animals and birds in acrylics and oils so I am now going to try using pan pastels. Thank you for showing us the video.

A recommendation for those who don't/can't use PanPastels is to lightly block in with soft pastels and then use isopropyl alcohol and a brush (that you don't mind getting beat up) and create washes for the underpainting. It's a good way of creating block-ins of color and darks without filling up the tooth of the paper. This method doesn't work with all pastels and it doesn't work with all papers. Generally used for thicker sanded papers (except Sennelier Lacarte) and I'm not sure but I don't think it works with PanPastel since they are hydrophobic. It may also lend itself to a more painterly finished painting depending on how loosely the underpainting is done.

I’ve joined your Patreon channel, and I’m looking forward to seeing this there. But, I wanted to see how you use Pan Pastels because I have a very limited supply of NuPastels, but lots of Pan Pastels. I wanted to try the leopard and was hoping I could see how I could use Pan Pastels.

I’m working on the Patreon version of the fox and I’m using pan pastels, but having a hard time getting them laid down. I’m thinking I’m not putting enough on my sponge because I get a heavy mark when I initially touch the paper, but as I move the sponge, it immediately lightens up and I can’t seem to blend that initial dark mark in. I guess I’m afraid of getting too much on initially.

They can! Lachri Fine Art has some vids demonstrating that. You'll want Faber Castell Polychromos for it, thought.
