THANK YOU MARK FOR HAVING ME ON HERE, HAPPY NEW YEAR, THANK YOU TO ALL THE FOLLOWERS, WHAT WONDERFUL PEOPLE AND FOLLOWING YOU HAVE HERE AT SWU, LOVE YOU ALL, JOEL BLAESER DEC 31, 2023
I wish I would've met you at the Alpine Valley show!😂 I saw Brent Mydland's last show, and Jerry's last show. 😢 What a long strange trip it's been!❤ Peace and hugs...great interview!
Although they look alike on the surface, there's a distinct difference btw shamelessness and unawareness. One can't be shamed if you don't know you did wrong. @certifiedproudboy
This guy is well spoken, and rational. You can disagree with his views, but you have to admit there is a an obvious difference between meth, heroin and LSD users.
@@jakupshmakup1457Yes it is. Lol. Most psychedelics are. Everyone has a different definition of magic but those drugs can fit into anyone's definition somehow.
That’s because uncle SAM is not getting his cut (taxes). The Government doesn’t care about anyone. They’re like any other hustler. It’s all about the money. When you give someone more years than a trash human being pedo, you’re strike fear in people’s hearts not to sell drugs. The Government can’t openly tell people, “go ahead sell drugs but make sure to pay you share.” Everyone would be a drug dealer and this country with its culturr and individualism is not designed for that.
Psychedelics are just an exceptional mental health breakthrough. It's quite fascinating how effective they are against depression and anxiety. Saved my life.
Can you help with the reliable source I would really appreciate it. Many people talk about mushrooms and psychedelics but nobody talks about where to get them. Very hard to get a reliable source here in Australia. Really need!
Yes, dr.sporesss. I have the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD and addiction and Mushrooms definitely made a huge huge difference to why am clean today.
I wish they were readily available in my place. Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He is 59 & has so many mental health issues plus probable CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac. He's constantly talking about killing someone. He's violent. Anyone reading this Familiar w/ BPD know if it is common for an obsession with violence.
as a deadhead this was my favorite episode by far please bring him back you could have a whole series on this topic and it still would only scratch the surface. Wishing you well joel may the four winds blow you safely home again
@@randygreen6652Jerry's dead, the dead are gone, Phish is amazing, trey is sober and alive, i have a job, and our party is still raging on. Guess you gotta cope with it somehow by bringing others down... sucks you dont get to see your favorite band anymore, but that quote that is tossed around is no own. Grow up.
I had an acid trip change my life once, felt reborn, ended up moving back to my home town to be with my family. Its showed me what really matters. Life is fragile, spend as much time as you can with the people you love.
W...ondered around for a good long while,, just staying out there. Those were the Golden Years... I got as far out as I could, I spent years, counting angels on the head of a pin, 🌹 I took a wrong turn, or found myself hiding from the light for a long time. The moment converged on me, like a force indescribable. I begged God to deliver me from this stranglehold that I had got myself into. Somewhere along the line, I traded musical colors, for repetitive desperate emptiness. But God ( or how ever we want to call it ) responded to me. Now, I'm riding with my family. That's what I'll probably take with me, when I die. The infinite, growing fractal of shared human moments. In my trippin' 🌹days, I saw beauty so deep, and so complex, so perfect, that I thought only an intention greater than the bounds of the universe, could have been the breath behind it. Let's make this life a good one!
This was one of the best interviews I’ve seen on this channel. It’s incredible how many people are so different from each other; it’s a blessing that diversity exists, and we have so many people from different cultures and backgrounds sharing their stories on this channel. This one channel can share all that, and that’s something beautiful in its unique way. Thanks Mark.
I reccomend that you watch that one interview with divorce attorney or whatever he is, if you already didn't .I was blown away for exact same reasons you described.. there are few of these that I watched with my jaw open from start to finish
One of the better guests on here in a long time, a true adventurer/wanderer of life. All the guests on here are great in their own unique way, but the vast majority are victims of circumstance. Its refreshing to see someone so concise, introspective and determined in the life they've lived, would love to see a part two.
The Dead absolutely changed my life. I was an angry violent person before following the dead for a summer. I knew very little about the dead before that. The love deadheads showed me opened my eyes forever. If you fall down or need help there was many people there to pick you up.✌️⚡️♥️
@whocares4464 the last of the Dead shows imo. I feel a little bad for those that never got the Jerry treatment. Those golden notes from that beautiful human made all the difference in the world as far as the music of the Dead.
Same here. I went to my first show in CT where I live, and after that I was gone. I immediately booked a flight to San Fran for a 3 night New Year’s Eve show at the Bill Graham. Then started traveling all around the states. I miss it a lot.
After watching hundreds of these interviews over the last couple months, I was super excited to see Mark interview a deadhead. I know we have many stories to share. A lot of our family did heavy bids with regards to L. It was the chance we took and knew the rules and consequences. We also lost many to addiction and overdoses, but through all the pain and loss…we never had doubts or thoughts of regret when it came to the love of the music, or our brothers and sisters. Much respect to Joel for keeping his moral compass when he could have easily cooperated. Glad you’re on the other side of things. Keep on truckin man. Superb share and interview.
I’ve met Joel , he was one of the warmest humans I ever met . He just radiated with this unconditional love that is quit rare to find these days . Very special soul ❤ so happy to see him on here
Get him back on! I feel like he could have 3 episodes. There was some bits that seemed rushed, i would like to hear more stories from this man and in more detail! Such a pure intelligent soul who sees life the right way. Unfortunately all too rare these days. Amazing work Mark!
As an avid watcher of SWU, this rocked. My deadhead days in Milwaukee shaped me, and my first concert was Alpine too. Joel’s family was good people- I went to school with the Blaesers, and watching this interview blew me away. I had no idea what a long strange trip your life was Joel! And I’m grateful to see you, on the other side of everything, enlightened, articulate and just a good human 👍 listening to you sure brought me back in time- God bless you! 🙏

Hi Joel, Nice to "virtually" meet you. Thank you for sharing your life's experiences. You wrapped it up nicely with the prayer story. I love it when the Divine greets us unexpectedly and something beautiful results. Be well in your life moving forward. 🙂
Thank you for this interview. Joel is an amazing storyteller and a very unique man. His memory is phenomenal. I wish more people were like him...He has real guts. Please have him on again. I'd like to hear more of his story.
Joel, your statement about resentments....goddamnit man, thats powerful. AA taught me that but i never understood it until i heard you say it. Thank you brother.
Ketamine, lsd, dmt and psilocybin are amazing. I was severely traumatized years ago as a teenage, got diagnosed with OCD. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until my mom recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 6 years totally clean. Much respect to mother nature the great magic shrooms.
I love hearing great life changing stories like this. I want to become a mycologist because honestly mushrooms are the best form of medicine (most especially the psychedelic ones) There are so many people today used magic mushrooms to ween off of SSRI medication- its amazing! Years back i wrote an entire essay about psychedelics. they saved you from death buddy, lets be honest here.
Can you help me with the reliable source 🙏. I'm 56 and have suffered for years with addiction, anxiety and severe ptsd, I got my panic attacks under control myself years ago and they have come back with a vengeance, I'm constantly trying to take full breaths but can't get the full satisfying breath out, it's absolutely crippling me, i live in Germany. I don't know much about these mushrooms. Really need a reliable source!! Can't wait to get them
I'm so very happy for you mate, Psilocybin is absolutely amazing, the way it shows you things, the way it teaches you things. I can not believe our world and our people shows less interest about it's helpfulness to humanity. It's love. The mushrooms heals people by showing the truth, it would be so beneficial for so many people, especially politicians and the rich who have lost their way and every other persons out there.
I went to a greatfull dead 4 day music festival down in Florida and had never been to anything like it before. I had also never taken lsd. After the 2nd day our neighbors came over to cook on our fire an asked if i wanted to try some so i did. At first when it kicked in i was freaking out, but these people took me in an took me to some camp site that was set up with a huge tent with comfy couches and all kinds of trippy space themed stuff all over the place. After awhile the fear an anxiety went completely away and i felt more love an freedom than i ever had before. That entire night i was shown so much love an compassion from people i didnt know at all. It deff changed me for the better. After i had an ego death an cried my eyes out for awhile it was like I was reborn. That night completely humbled me an changed me for the betrer. Ill never forget.
Joel, I was so surprised to see you on this I had to watch. You and my husband Ricky were good friends. I am happy that your doing well. We hung with all the same people. I'm from the same town as you even went to the same High School as you. Keep up the great work.
Incredible interview. In college, we followed Widespread Panic. A friend of mine sold ecstasy on tour to make money. He became fairly highly regarded on tour. He ended up getting arrested in the lot right in front of me. He got 15 years. I remember long after college, I would still get letters from him in prison. My life had moved on, and he was still frozen in time in prison. It shook me to my core
Hey man I probably ran into you and your friends at the panic shows from 93-98. New Orleans December 1993, Pensacola 1994-1997, Mobile Alabama 1993-1996, Jackson MS 1998, Starkville MS 1999, New Orleans haloween night 1996. Fucking amazing shows. If you were at the jackson MS show in 1998, there was a hippie chick in the back of the field at one Jackson place that literally dancing like a robot, no shit. I’ll never forget her… Simon

What an awesome interview. Very intelligent, humbled, and very well spoken man. You should have a folder for all his interviews instead of being focused on the negitive energy in most of the other videos. Hes a great human. Take care and thank you
Not a long enough interview with him. He is a special person. Honorable 🎖 He needs his own RUclips channel. He changed history by keeping his mouth shut. Many of us may have never even been able to try real LSD had this lab been outed.
This man’s knowledge is incredible. I was never a Grateful Dead fan, but being a student of Funkadelic, I’m in-line with the art, culture, and movements created by LSD. I’m floored though because most people who have had the same experiences of this man are about twice his age and a lot of them are burnouts because all the hippie stuff started died out in the 70s, while he was able to dive head-first as a kid over a decade removed. I could listen to this man for days on end.
He’s not that rational. He jumps from thought to thought. Also, he got a fundamental part of the Grateful Dead legend wrong. Bear was not a merry prankster and was not on the cross country trip.
@@paulferranti8536Yeah I can see that the lsd made a mark on him; I've taken probably 200 hits in my teens and twenties and it did a number on my perception of reality and common sense. Only now in my early 50's (I'm a few years younger than this guy) am I finally able to appreciate "normal" reality as other people see it. LSD is a false sacrament. You can't change the world or human nature with a chemical. That was a delusional idea. Edit: Well you can change the world but it won't necessarily be better. In many ways the counterculture revolution just decayed into decadence and degeneracy. I'm not so sure legalizing pot was even a good idea.
Oh did he get the the part about the grateful dead serving their country by maintaining a platform that can be used to control opposition? Eat up your stories buddy they are all ya got
@@paulferranti8536 He didn't claim Bear was a Merry Prankster he was just speaking in stream of consciousness and was describing Bear, Ken Kesey and and the whole scene.
What a lovely, intelligent and humble man. My favourite underbelly so far. What's your biggest lesson? "Not to hold resentment'. Beautiful. Just what I needed to hear at precisely this moment. Thanks dude.
This almost literally sounded like one of those deeply annoying bot comments to me. But there's no Instagram account plugged in the replies. And then I saw you were talking about farting as a Gigolo below another video, so I knew you're a real person, hahahaha
00:12 🎸 Joel saw the Grateful Dead 101 times, starting at age 15, drawn in by the scene's love and energy. 01:50 🚌 Despite a naive start at a Dead show, being ushered backstage kickstarted Joel's love for the music and scene. 03:26 💔 Leaving behind a settled life for the Dead's tour became Joel's path, impacting relationships and jobs. 05:19 🚔 The intense legal risks and precautions in selling LSD during the '80s, particularly in states like Texas. 07:11 ⚖ Joel faced severe legal charges for LSD sales, including interstate commerce and money laundering. 08:56 🌀 LSD's cultural and historical context, from its discoveryto its role in social change movements. 13:49 💊 Joel's progression from small LSD sales to larger quantities, revealing cautious trade methods and connections. 16:19 🌈 The profound, non-altering nature of LSD experiences, breaking down perception to vibrancy and sensations. 20:27 🎶 Grateful Dead tours were akin to a sanctuary for Joel, a place of peace amid a troubled youth and a troubled legal path. 22:26 🚨 Joel's federal case went to trial, which earned him respect but carried serious risks. Most in federal prison under drug laws plead guilty due to a high chance of losing trials. 23:07 🚔 Joel was apprehended by the DEA before starting a legitimate job. Faced with a potential 40-year sentence, he was thrown into jail and had to navigate the federal prison system. 24:01 📝 Evidence from a customer led to Joel's arrest. Marty, under pressure from the DEA, cooperated and revealed details about acquiring LSD, leading to further legal complications. 25:25 🎤 Joel's trial lacked explicit drug mentions but referenced Grateful Dead tickets, although he never discussed drugs on calls. Despite a strong defense, the jury found him guilty. 26:06 ⚖ Facing 40 years, Joel contemplated cooperating but decided against it, respecting the people he worked with, although he admits to misconduct in prison. 28:22 🏢 Joel experienced confinement in various prisons, including the infamous Marion, characterized by its stringent security measures and notorious history. 30:10 🔒 Changes in drug laws affected sentencing disparities, particularly impacting white males. Joel witnessed systemic injustices and riots in response to these laws. 32:14 🌐 Joel was part of a prison riot during the Million Man March in 1995, leading to his transfer to Marion with severe repercussions for the involved inmates. 36:04 🤝 Despite the harsh prison environment, Joel witnessed unexpected solidarity across racial lines in defense of an inmate being attacked by guards. 39:57 🚓 Joel's arrival in Marion prison was marked by an intense introduction but relief in having an empty cell for himself, albeit in a supermax environment. 42:20 🏠 Joel's post-prison life involved acquiring and restoring a confiscated house, marking the beginning of his career as an artist despite facing challenges and setbacks. 44:00 💔 Joel reflects on his mother's passing, cherishing moments and learning the value of being present in the moment, advocating against harboring resentments. 44:39 🎓 The most significant lesson for Joel: Avoid harboring resentments, acknowledging their toxicity, and learning to appreciate the present moment. 44:53 💥 Joel recounted an incident in prison where he mentioned another inmate's name, leading to guards beating him on New Year's Eve. It was the only physical altercation he experienced in prison. 45:32 🤔 Joel realized a potential for an appeal while in solitary confinement and had an empathetic shift, choosing to pray for the guards instead of harboring resentments, a significant lesson in the midst of adversity.
This is the BEST interview I've seen. WOW JOEL your a Boss. This blew my mind... Your mental capacity ... is god like. You're a walking Saint. Thank you,
As someone who has suffered with mental illness and depression the majority of my adult life. I just tried LSD for the first time, I felt as if I was in the center of the universe. What an amazing experience and i really loved it
I hear this is supposed to be good for people who have mental health issues. I actually just started the research process of microdosing and all that. Im to the point where I want shock treatment.
For me, this has been the best interview yet. I related so well to his journey. Mark, the genius of your SWU creation is simplicity and originality. The human condition is complicated and we all have a story to tell. If you ever travel thru East Tennessee, my life is a true and ongoing SWU interview. I'll be 56 soon and I guarantee you an entertaning story filled with a human condition like no other. ✌️😎
JFK perhaps the last leader who actually thought for himself; was not controlled by Deep State (Players behind the Puppets, always extant down through history behind Kings, prime Ministers etc.)we know what happened to him.
Glad to hear that I’m not the only one who saw their first Grateful Dead show at 15 years old and had their life transformed. Spread love and shine bright.❤
This resonates with me, I saw my first show when I was 13 in 87 and by the time I was 17 was on tour. Spent the next 4 years traveling and living in the parking lot up and down the west coast going to the east coast tours in the summer and fall. This guy speaks the truth, I saw friends suffer a similar fate and came close myself, also had many friends die chasing the dragon, props to him for not winding up a casualty.

Finally a hometown guy. One of the coolest interviews. I love the Grateful Dead (the original Jerry Garcia lineup) and its really cool to hear his stories of shows especially Alpine Valley being his start. The way he remembers the show dates and years is fantastic.
I can relate to a lot of what he’s saying about the 1980’s. In some ways it was the best time to be young and partying because the drugs were there to provide an experience yet they were not particularly harmful or addictive. I did LSD many times and never had a bad trip. You and your friends would be telepathic, you would literally be vibrating with energy, we would laugh until we cried, we would burst out of the party house to be one with the night sky and the whole universe. We were kinder, more honest for the most part. It was the last of the era of free love, mind altering drug use, drinking and smoking our faces off until the wee hours of the night…but it was also the time where a cop would comb the carpet on the floor of your car looking to bust you for a pot seed, yet would let you continue to drive drunk if you promised to go straight home. Fear of HIV and crack brought us down back down to earth but by then we were becoming responsible adults/parents so we toned it down to cigarettes, marijuana, alcohol and the seasonal harvesting of magic mushrooms 🍄 😊❤
I’m with you! Graduated HS in 1990. I miss the 80’s life more fun. Not just because of my age, pre cell phones/ computers. Fun parties with no guns or wannabe gangsters. I especially like how you remember how on LSD, you and your friends would be telepathic. Laughing until crying and then bursting out of the party to be one with night sky and universe.👍 I stopped using drugs over 20 years ago to save myself, keep a wife and be a responsible father. No regrets there, but I miss the “carefree” fun times.. Life is so serious now, and I hate that… Cheers friend!
@@lorriegottschalk4385technically they had better acid in the 90s than in the 60s/70s. Lavender, sunshine, amber, etc were phased out and were replaced by fluff and needlepoint as clandestine LSD chemistry became highly professional and sophisticated. So basically you guys had a lot of shitty weed and shitty acid, and you just have thick rose colored glasses. Did you watch the video? I recommend living in it before ya die mr. boomer instead of judging other people’s cherished memories from the days of their youth as more or less significant than your own.
You speak like your reality was everyones. no.The 80's were awful for many of us. Jail time for nothing, weed, people getting shot/ (not that has changed much)

@davidhopcraft9547 ive been using psilocybin mushrooms... 1st cubensis.. then i tried some more potent breeds. Most are cross breed cubensis and other psilocybin containing mushrooms.. like albino P.E. and tidal wave....and pearly gates... nutt cracker... i found that taking smaller doses.. ie.... Cubensis=2gms...3gms.. A.P.E. = 1..5gm- 2 gm Nutt cracker & pearly gates = .5gm- 1.5gms on a twice a week basis.. Really reduced my depression and also i feel as though i gained insight into spirituality..... ive come to a point now... after multiple psychedelics.. DMT twice Lsd.. and extremely potent mushrooms at higher doses... I felt the need to connect with mother earth again.. ive realized that we are ALL CONNECTED. Ive learned plants can be conscious of their environments and other plants and trees know if you are attempting to hurt one farther away.. even if you are just thinking of it. I know water lives... like the earth does as well.... ive noticed i can see aura-like, misty...almost transparent but slightly translucent...and that ive noticed many greenish red or bueish green or any combination of those colors..including red specs for lack of better term.. in circular patterns around most ppl.... i can feel negativity and ive become very empathic.. others pains and joys can affect my life. I have a desire to discuss this with others.. but i think ppl may think im crazy. I havent used any in a month... i still see nearly transparent circular colors around nearly everyone. Doing research into shamanism afterwards.. i discovered that many shamans... even today..see the world this way.... don Juan says that the "auras" our actually us.....carryi g these bodies around... And once upon a time before birth.. i chose to forget ...WE CHOSE TO FORGET THAT WE ARE :: ETERNAL BEINGS....PIECES OF THE ONE TRUE GOD, HIGHER POWER, THE UNIVERSE, THE ACTUAL SOURCE OF ALL CREATION.... NOT THE EVIL-WRATHFUL- JEALOUS- MURDERING god of the Old Testament.... It is the GOD ,THE SOURCE, WHAT JESUS ,YESHUA..TRIED TO TEACH US WHEN HE SAID TO HIS DICIPLES.. I COME NOT TO SAVE THE WORLD BUT DESTROOY IT... CHANGE IT , WAKE PPL UP, YESHUA TOLD ALL HIS DISCIPLES...WHY ARE U AMAZED I HEAL THE SICK AND MAKE THE BLIND SEE.....YOU TOO CAN DO THESE THINGS.... HE SAID LOVE YOUR CREATOR..THE SOURCE OF ALL...[ NOT YALBEDEOTH FROM OLD TESTAMENT]..ie gnosticism research can help but be careful... JESUS (YESHUA) WAS TRYING TO WAKE US UP TO THE FACT THAT LOVE FOR THE TRUE GOD..THE SOURCE.. AND LOVING YUR NEIGHBORS AS YOURSELF... CAN CHANGE THE WORLD... WE CAN RAIISE OUR CONCIOUSNESS AND BY DOING SO CHANGE OUR RELATION SHIP W THIS PLANET... ASCEND... You can call me crazy.. but :: I Can SEE !!! !!! !!!
What a character! I began doing psychedelics quite early in life too, maybe around age 21. I didn't ever sell, not even to supply myself with whatever. But still, living a life with the insights that can come from this kind of lifestyle, can be a wild and lonely ride at times. He experienced some humbling shit, stuff that I could never imagine going through and turning out as well as he did. Nevertheless, psychedelics did make me aware of the fact that, extraordinary things can be achieved, if you perceive them to be necessary for a purpose that is greater than yourself. It sounds banal, and it is, but acting accordingly and integrating the knowledge into your way of being is where the true journey begins.
im not trying to upstage you or anything, but 21 would have been late for the kids in the 80's. I can tell you are/ were smarter than I in making those decisions and for people saying or thinking it's not bad is just crazy. Marks taken over 100 trips and I dont care who you are, 100 trips makes an impression on a mind, especially starting at the age of 15 and younger. His mind is all over the place and it was hard to follow him at times, but he's a person I would love and trust to be around. You were wise to wait or be exposed later then 15
@@JohnDoe-mp1zk I know haha, I've always been wise beyond my years, it served me well ^_^ Yea, I didn't do that much LSD either... Maybe 15-20 trips at max, since the first one 15 years ago... Did way more shrooms. Always liked psilocybin more. Would get an ass-whooping from the shrooms if I ever overdid it, seemed like a safer drug in that respect. I've seen too many people eat LSD like candy and become incoherent in their thinking and speaking over time (the stims and weed mixed on top prolly didn't help them either...) Which just adds to my admiration for Mark, he sort of "made it through the looking glass" as it were, with his integrity intact. He get's sidetracked all the time sure, but in all fairness, it could just be part of his personality. I guess it is, in the sense that he took LSD while his personality was still forming. I celebrated new years with a dude who started at 14, he was surprisingly well spoken. But, ofc it had done other things (mostly good) to his mind... Peace brother, I hope you succeed in sorting out any unwanted impressions that your mind had to endure!
Seeing successful hardworking people is SO impactful & truly inspiring to one’s being. I had to go the ER recently for a burst appendix & my head surgeon was a big tall buff Nigerian man, younger than myself. In one glance/second I felt his life dedication & inwardly felt so damn foolish for my useless & forever-adolescent life. My life was in his hands…only because he had decided to be of real service to his fellow man. Spend time around serious people. It’s ain’t that hard to use your life in a productive/serving way.
Someone who watched my younger sisters when they were little was a Deadhead. I learned so much from her and am great full for my time spent together. What a cool guy Joel is.
The DEA and war on drugs is absolute insanity. This guy is such a kind and loving soul…you can see it in his eyes. Shame on the people who locked this man up.
@certifiedproudboy it’s not a drug. Crack is a drug. Meth is a drug. I highly recommend you find some lsd and explore consciousness. If more people did we would have a better world.
I have been involved with criminal defense for federal clients for decades. Joel is so interesting and savvy as to the experience, the culture and the law. We cannot judge another by the worse things they have done. His illegal activity is but a sliver of his humanity. As a whole, he is so damn human and realized. His humility is a lesson in and of itself.
I second this! I didn’t want this to end. I felt like he was keepin the stories short to not go over, but I wanted it to spill more and more! Such an interesting life. Gotta love the dead heads. Love festivals but didn’t get to see it around this time and of course earlier. Learned so much about all of it listening to this guy. What a good human.
Great presentation Joel, would love to have you come back to SWU. I enjoyed hearing your accounts, like being right there. I can tell there's a ton more you have to share. Please do! See you soon and best wishes. Mark, GET THIS GUY BACK!☝☝☝
Well spoken, real talk, no fluff, did his time and kept his mouth shut. People don’t differentiate snitching and knowing what you got into and keeping your mouth shut. Obe under duress I understand why someone wouldnt “tell” but if you live that life you SHOULD know whats coming now or later.
Lsd was the pivotal spiritual awakening moment when I realized that this world's matrix is unnatural and everything is a projection. I relinquished my ego and re-created my identity as a soul. So beautiful. Liquid lsd.
Thank you JB. "All that you have is your soul." We were at dozens of shows together. Across the Rio Grandeo. Did we meet? Put your hair back on and maybe I can tell. What you say about the timelessness at shows -- score! Your truth shines. All power to your art. Thank you.
If anyone might be curious, pages 551-552 in the aa big book talks about forgiving and putting a resentment to rest. Just a fyi. Thank you for this great show.
You plan your trip - it wasn’t a substance that you were jonesing for. You planned it out so you could experience everything. Words cannot express a Dead Show and LSD and beautiful people.
Far out! That's one helluva a story, to which many parts I can relate, being a deadhead, and going to jail and all that. What a great (Grate) interview ❤
Hello, Joel: Clear light in the early 70's, in the handmade wooden boxes, 40 vials to a box, 250 ug/dose. "You look through it, it looks through you." That stopped in 1974, but I didn't stop. Went on tour years later and made the mistake you mention, working in the parking lot. I was very lucky to only do 1 year inside and 2 on probation, in med security in NY State. It could have been much, much worse in the mid 80's. sure is nice to see psychedelics finally "comin' around in a circle".
I don’t know what it is about this guy but he has given me some hope which I am very short on right now. Just trying to make it to my dad’s bday on the 24 th. Thank you.
Great interview. I also discovered them in Toronto Wonderland at age 15, 1986 and was at Alpine 1987 and 1988. Best times ever. Great story and full of integrity. What a world and how sad hpw many were in jail over drugs.

The insights I've gained from magic mushrooms have been invaluable. They've helped me understand myself and the world in a new way.

It's unbelievable how a marijuana dealer can get more prison time than a pedophile
It’s all about money rarely is it about justice

It's insane. The war on drugs is a joke. Yet we as a country tolerate violent crime and sex crimes. Priorities are way out of line.
Thats how it works when the world is run by them…
Psychedelics are just an exceptional mental health breakthrough.

Definitely

The Dead absolutely changed my life. I was an angry violent person before following the dead for a summer. I knew very little about the dead before that. The love deadheads showed me opened my eyes forever. If you fall down or need help there was many people there to pick you up.✌️⚡️♥️
I toured 94-95 and it was so much fun
@whocares4464 the last of the Dead shows imo. I feel a little bad for those that never got the Jerry treatment. Those golden notes from that beautiful human made all the difference in the world as far as the music of the Dead.
While at the concert.
Same here. I went to my first show in CT where I live, and after that I was gone. I immediately booked a flight to San Fran for a 3 night New Year’s Eve show at the Bill Graham. Then started traveling all around the states. I miss it a lot.
Tour saved my soul from inner-venous dope abuse … opened my heart and showed me how “Spirit moves in all things” 💀

45:32 🤔 Joel realized a potential for an appeal while in solitary confinement and had an empathetic shift, choosing to pray for the guards instead of harboring resentments, a significant lesson in the midst of adversity.
holy shit man
Awesome, thank you for your wonderful break down!
Nice work..🤘
So impressive , and appreciated.
ThankYou
How wonderful you are!!! This is simply amazing!
This is the BEST interview I've seen. WOW JOEL your a Boss. This blew my mind... Your mental capacity ... is god like. You're a walking Saint. Thank you,
This man has more integrity than 99.99% of the population. A true hero for not snitching on his friends.
He didn’t forget his Tegridy
One thing I noticed is he’s wearing an American flag shirt after what the federal government did to him
Wish this interview was longer! Could listen to this dude for awhile!
Im to the point where I want shock treatment.
dr.perryshroom is your guy. Got all kinds of psychedelics stuff. Guided me through my first ever experience
Been through this conversation before. I can’t do anything without a proper medical professional following me.
YES, he is dr.perryshroom. There's a lot of potential in psychedelics
It would be great to hear in more detail about your mystical experiences during meditation.
Joel! I'm from MKE. My wife (then gf) were at the '84 Alpine Valley shows. Great piece. Glad I found it.
I wish more politicians would have 1/2 as much of a moral compass as this guy.
JFK perhaps the last leader who actually thought for himself; was not controlled by Deep State (Players behind the Puppets, always extant down through history behind Kings, prime Ministers etc.)we know what happened to him.
Politicians are the worst. You can since a rotten soul being near them.
1/2 ?..... U'd still be in hole. When you consider the damage done politicians are the worst of all criminals...

This was great. Cracked me up when he doesn’t name him the book but then drops Marty right after.
MARTY!!!
Right?😂 lol this guy was great. No ego. Transparent but aware, and has the best energy
This man is so lucid and evolved. Thank you so much for sharing Joel's story. it touched me. I'll be praying to dissolve resentment going forward
Loving the variety lately. There are so many stories to be told
Got that right and only in American could that happen 🤗🇺🇸
Philly 93 I was in High school and a whole bunch of my buddies went down from NY for that show.
500 here from 86 till Jerry died and I don't recognize this guy so he wasn't around that much lol
Legend
he was locked up and had a small circle
Thank you for your interview mr clean, very informative
Best one i have seen in awhile, refreshing to see someone not down and out
Glad to hear that I’m not the only one who saw their first Grateful Dead show at 15 years old and had their life transformed.
Spread love and shine bright.❤
This has been by far my favorite interview
AINT HALF DONE AND I ALREADY WANT TO HEAR MORE FROM THIS DUDE
Need a longer interview. He is a great storyteller.
Yes
No resentment. A beautiful person. Thanks for sharing.
The #1 offender.
Another OG! What a ride, Joel Please start your own podcast or write a book - you’re an amazing story teller and communicator. 🙏🏽 for sharing a few chapters of your life ❤

What a fabulous interview! Such an intelligent, aware person. I'm so glad he's found himself.
Laughing until crying and then bursting out of the party to be one with night sky and universe.👍
I stopped using drugs over 20 years ago to save myself, keep a wife and be a responsible father. No regrets there, but I miss the “carefree” fun times.. Life is so serious now, and I hate that…
Cheers friend!
Still nothing compared to the late 60's and early 70's. Best years ever!
@@bfranco1519cheers to you as well, your response was awesome and still contains the trusting vibe we all felt then. Peace be with you brother ❤
He is totally right, there is no past and no future, just the present. I recommend living in it before ya die mr. boomer instead of judging other people’s cherished memories from the days of their youth as more or less significant than your own.
You speak like your reality was everyones. no.The 80's were awful for many of us. Jail time for nothing, weed, people getting shot/ (not that has changed much)
Much love Joel, uncle Sydney helped this experience too. You are an amazing individual and I feel connected. Thanks for your tale, you are an excellent story teller. Peace
LSD, DMT and psilocybin containing mushroom are just amazing with so many health benefits. I was actually diagnosed with ADHD years ago. Also suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until my mom recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.
Congrats on your recovery. Most persons never realizes psilocybin can be used as a miracle medication to save lives. Years back i wrote an entire essay about psychedelics. they saved you from death bud, lets be honest here.
YES very sure of Dr.benshrooms. I have the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD and addiction and Mushrooms definitely made a huge huge difference to why am clean today.
How do I reach out to him? Is he on insta
Yes he's Dr.benshrooms. Shrooms to me is a natrual healer. I know a guy who has used mushrooms in the same way and they have really helped him. mah dudes have safe trips all.
Hes right about the amount of time and money wasted on locking up people for weed and shit for posession. Its unbelievable.
Easiest way to maintain a for profit prison system.
"The past and the future has never been and never will be. The only thing that's real, is right-here, right-now. It's this, what matters".
Only someone who has heard colors and seen smells can be this insightful.
Thanks SWU and Joel for sharing your story.
@davidhopcraft9547 ive been using psilocybin mushrooms... 1st cubensis.. then i tried some more potent breeds. Most are cross breed cubensis and other psilocybin containing mushrooms.. like albino P.E. and tidal wave....and pearly gates... nutt cracker... i found that taking smaller doses.. ie....
Cubensis=2gms...3gms..
A.P.E. = 1..5gm- 2 gm
Nutt cracker & pearly gates = .5gm- 1.5gms on a twice a week basis..
Really reduced my depression and also i feel as though i gained insight into spirituality..... ive come to a point now... after multiple psychedelics.. DMT twice
Lsd.. and extremely potent mushrooms at higher doses...
And once upon a time before birth.. i chose to forget ...WE CHOSE TO FORGET THAT WE ARE ::
ETERNAL BEINGS....PIECES OF THE ONE TRUE GOD, HIGHER POWER, THE UNIVERSE,
THE ACTUAL SOURCE OF ALL CREATION....
NOT THE EVIL-WRATHFUL- JEALOUS- MURDERING god of the Old Testament....
It is the GOD ,THE SOURCE,
WHAT JESUS ,YESHUA..TRIED TO TEACH US WHEN HE SAID TO HIS DICIPLES.. I COME NOT TO SAVE THE WORLD BUT DESTROOY IT...
CHANGE IT , WAKE PPL UP,
YESHUA TOLD ALL HIS DISCIPLES...WHY ARE U AMAZED I HEAL THE SICK AND MAKE THE BLIND SEE.....YOU TOO CAN DO THESE THINGS....
ASCEND...
You can call me crazy.. but ::
I Can SEE !!! !!!

The DEA and war on drugs is absolute insanity. This guy is such a kind and loving soul…you can see it in his eyes. Shame on the people who locked this man up.

@ajaxwarrior why exactly??
@certifiedproudboy you just like to troll?
@certifiedproudboy clearly you’ve never done LSD.
I need like a 3 hour podcast with this dude so many story's and parts I felt he missed, super interesting guy and seems very authentic 😊

On steveo wild ride. I want to hear them talk dead tour stories

Thank you Mark for all you do, another banger per usual. Hope you and the family have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

Thank you JB. "All that you have is your soul." We were at dozens of shows together. Across the Rio Grandeo. Did we meet? Put your hair back on and maybe I can tell. What you say about the timelessness at shows -- score! Your truth shines. All power to your art. Thank you.
