    You seem to have a lot of "hobby/fun" animals, but what do you do for food as far as livestock goes? Pigs can be fun, don't get me wrong. I raised pigs many many times over, but always sent them out for bacon and ham.

    Delci has a lot of great videos on goat care. We (my wife and I) are big on animal husbandry and letting the animals....lead a happy life..and then we eat them...at least we are not contributing to confined large scale farming operations that do no good for the animals. Anyway I’m also a big fan of Joel Salatin and Just a Few Acres Farm. Thank you for sharing. We have 4 acres that looks like yours. We are thinking of livestock as well😃🌈🤙

    Love the farm! I just wanted to mention that near the end of the video you mentioned that you give your dogs the broken bits of chicken bones when you are done making broth. Giving dogs cooked chicken bones is actually bad for them. Cooked chicken bones have a higher chance of splintering once a dog has eaten it which can cause some serious stomach issues and tearing. This happened to my grandmother's dog when I was a kid in a very similar situation

    • @FromSeedtoSpoon
      @FromSeedtoSpoon  3 года назад +6

      Hey Justin, thanks for the warning. We only give them bones that have gone through the pressure cooker for several rounds. After that, they crumble down into just plain mush. It’s way different than bones that have just been boiled for a few hours.

    Your farm is amazing! It’s very inspiring. I would love to have a farm like yours one day. I’m curious, what do you do when you leave for vacation? Do you hire help to care for the animals or do you have family or friends to pitch in? How long would you feel comfortable leaving them unattended? Like, would overnight be risky?

    Lots of animals for a few acres.. how much feed do U have to bring in for them?

    • @FromSeedtoSpoon
      @FromSeedtoSpoon  14 дней назад

      We actually feed our pigs our leftovers from the house, which helps a lot! We do supplement with pig food or corn occasionally. For the goats and sheep, we always have some hay on hand, but we also let them out to do some weeding on the property at least once a week. We supplement them during the week, but overall, we don't go through as much feed as you might think!

    I like the idea of trellising the berries. What size pot do you have your berries in?
    I just got a BlackBerry (baby cakes) plant this year and put it in a 20gal smartpot. I'm thinking of planting it in the ground.
    What's the benefit of using a smartpot over planting them in the ground?

    • @FromSeedtoSpoon
      @FromSeedtoSpoon  4 года назад +1

      These are planted in 50 Gallon smart pot big bag bed jr’s. The soil here was really bad when we moved in and we wanted to get started immediately. We already had the smart pots at the old house so it worked out great! We’ll record a video soon talking about our gardening strategy, but we plan to use the animals to build gardens for us basically!

    • @denisesmith9224

      From Seed to Spoon what variety of blueberries did you plant? I heard they are hard to grow in Oklahoma. We are in Guthrie. Love your garden, mine did not do well. Something is eating everything. :(

    • @mariaavery5004
      @mariaavery5004 4 года назад

      @@denisesmith9224I'm in utah. it's a Baby Cake BlackBerry. I was told that blueberry are had to grow. It's a dwarf thornless BlackBerry. I was told this variety will stay in one place. I hadn't thought about trellising.
      Makes sense to start in smart pots for now. That helps you figure out where you want everything to go.

    • @DonnaRatliff1
      @DonnaRatliff1 2 года назад

      @Denise Smith I actually use spray when I need to for bugs, mainly worms. For aphids I use cheap dish soap diluted with water. I absolutely squash bugs and worms. I refuse to lose cantaloupes and squashes because of bugs. Though, I've noticed since doing the no till Back to Eden garden method for 6 years now, that theres a lot less bad bugs and way more beneficial.
      I do use liquid sevin when absolutely needed. I know its not all organic but when our garden is our survival food, we do what we need to. Plus, if spray is needed, done late at dusk, doesn't harm as much the beneficial insects if any. But good news is once pests are knocked down a couple years straight in a row, I notice theres way less in future growing seasons. Least that's what I've experienced. I hope you're growing a garden this season. 😀

    • @DonnaRatliff1
      @DonnaRatliff1 2 года назад +1

      I started with 1 baby cake raspberry bare root, those short thornless kind. It took 3 years but that 1 plant has multiplied like crazy into 25 bushes. I bought it as a mark down at Tractor Supply. I thought I'd never see a berry. Lol, now there's a ton.
