Da Immortalz are basically a riff on The Immortals. The Black Orcs saw how mean the Chaos Dwarf Immortals were and wanted to emulate them after they broke free of their Chaos Dwarf slavemasters
Huh, thought it was because no matter how many died there would always be more to fill in.
So they give the appearance of being immune to death or attrition
@@Drazhoath1 Probably not really. Herodotus named the royal guard unit that. Which was permanently maintained at a strength of 10,000 men, though that was also the size of Persian units/divisions in general. But as far as anyone can tell they were probably just called something like "companions" or possibly "apple-bearers" (I think from a decorative pommel on their spears). As far as the always exactly 10,000 men thing goes, that's probably just that unit always being maintained at full strength whereas other units would be raised and formed on more of an ad-hoc basis.
Later Byzantine writers again used the name to refer to the household cavalry of the later Sassanid Persian empire, which they also claim was 10,000 strong, though again as far as we're aware the this was not a name or allusion used by the Persians.
Then later on an actual Byzantine unit of 10,000 was known by that name and probbly used it since themselves, since they were actually drawing upon the literary tradition that had invented the name.

Lovely battle! About the Immortals, it's a fun bit of lore there. Grimgor called his elite The Immortulz exactly because of The Immortals of the Chaos Dwarfs. It was both a source of inspiration, and a wish to mock them.
Yeah, and while not visible in-game, Grimgor's Immortulz have skull masks painted on their helms. Which you can see are inspired by the skull faced helms of the Chaos Dwarf Immortals.

And, this is probably obvious, but since the Chorfs are heavily inspired by ancient middle eastern cultures and Perzian especially, the Immortals is where that came from.
Is there a source on this? I've heard it several times but not actually seen a source on it

Glad to hear Chaos Dwarves are more versatile and synergistic, can't wait to see what the sweaty tournament players will do with them.

ChDorfs are everything vanilla Dawi want to be but couldn't.
Grimgor's Immortulz Black Orcs were probably based on the Chaos Dwarf Immortals, lorewise.
You gotta remember that Black Orcs and Grimgor are closely tied to the Chaos Dwarfs and were involved in a major greenskin slave revolt that nearly wiped out the Dawi'Zharr back in the day.
So in essence, Grimgor's Black Orc elite is probably called the Immortulz because they knew about the Chaos Dwarf Immortals and basically wanted to be the same thing, but for Black Orcs instead.
*Labour revolt. Actually it was a workers strike back when Grimgor was chairman of the trade union.

You didn't really mention it but this was one of the most brutal battle I've seen in this game. Barely any ranged skirmish just a brawl

I love how synergistic the daemonsmith is with the constructs. Not only does he get the explicit heal, but then he also gets that pistol that imbues flammable, and you can go fire magic for even more synergy. It feels way better than the necrotect imo.
So hyped for chaos dwarfs, honestly will watch anything with them CA has done such amazing job making roster unique and really fun to watch!

Looking fantastic. The campaign side of things already looked bonkers good, great to see that the units on the field are also interesting and fun.
I love the CD's, but my one nit pick that was bothering me that whole battle was seeing that the K'daai Destroyer only had 90 armor. CA is trying to tell me that the big daemon in chaos armor has so little armor?
That actually makes sense with the lore. The armour on K'daai is not meant to protect them from attacks, it's to keep them bound. K'daai burn so hot they melt any physical form they're bound to, including their metal bodies (any K'daai active long enough will eventually die even if nobody attacks it). As such that kind of metal shouldn't offer that much protection.
Its probably been balanced around Demonsmiths, a 0.8%hp/sec heal with high armor would just make it nearly unkillable in some situations.
10/10 video cause its got my two favorite WH content creators Turin and Okoii

High Elves should have a great match up against Chaos Dwarfs with all their fire resistant units.
Will that help them against 500 ap damage artillery? Dont think so.
All of their "fire resistant units" only amount to Imrik, Tyrion, Dragon Princes and Pheonixes.
2 out of those deal fire dmg themselves and run into the CDs own fire resistance, while the Dragon Princes won't trade well with their low ap values.
Sisters of Avelorn also deal fire dmg, so they won't do alot either.

Fitting that Grimgor fights the Dawi-zharr given that he was once one of their slaves.
Greenskins: have the artillery advantage, immediately charge in and engage the entire enemy army in melee. Very in character.
I know this is early days and Turin wasn't sweating, but nether was the Orc player. The Chaos Dwarfs... Don't look super OP? A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one
Yeah, the Chaos Dwarfs really do seem to be a faction with poor low cost infantry but valuable high cost units. Which makes sense with their lore.
Look pretty OP to me. None of Turin's main pieces died. The only unit that gave him trouble at all was Grimgor.
@@brianlevor6295 As long as you focus fire on the strong units with decent armor piercing units, the Chaos Dwarfs don't really have an answer for it. The issue with Grimgor's army was that it was stretched thin and had too few elite units to deal with the Chaos Dwarf elites.
Rusty arrows would have gone a long way in that fight. Also Big Uns for anti-large against the constructs

grimgor was one of the original black orcs created by the chaos dwarfs so he got that idea of calling his best literally from them

I have yet to see a fight where the Chaos Dwarfs gets absolutely dominated. They either beat the breaks off their opponent or it comes down to the wire.

How does a K'daai destroyer only have 90 armor? i know it may be for balance reasons, but grimgor having more armor than a demon in a suit of armor seems weird to me...
It is kinda crazy that the destroyer only has 90 armor when Astragoth has 130 fucking armor lol. As if astragoth was the one completely made of armor instead of the dwarf on stilts he is. Still got a squishy chest and face at least. Even if his legs and right arm is made of stone.
The armor probably isn't very thick. It'd make sense that they wouldn't be able to make the armor for something that big too heavy without massively weighing it down

Don't forget ash storm also gives weakness to fire. so you could stack up to 100% weakness (I think)
Apparently there is also "the vial of hashut" item giving another 60% fire weakness for 50s on a single unit.

Based on what I can see here, I am guessing Chaos Dwarfs are going to be great at taking points in Domination with the leadership nukes and speedy infantry-blending sweeper units, but bad at holding them given how fragile their basic infantry is.
The dwarf infantry is extremely tanky though so you can use them to hold them.
Not really. I would argue that chdorfs infantry is even outright better than vanilla dwarfs with their damage output potential with fire weakness.
@@muaddoubledips I think he's talking about the chaff. Proper Chorfs are good, but expensive. Their orcs and goblins wouldn't be able to hold a point on their own.
@@screamingcactus1753 After seeing more gameplay I think CA did a great job with the balancing. Many of CHdorf units are stupid good on paper but not that bad in execution.

Personally i think the destroyer should cost a little bit more as it offers probably the best distraction piece in the game as it’s so hard to kill against quite a few factions, but really loving the Chaos dwarfs as a whole

Not sure how viable could be, but u could bring a fire caster hero maybe on foot and another hero or lord caster of hashut. So you can use cheap spells to get kindle flame on your army and hashut caster use ash storm spell for 20 or whatever it is fire weakness.
I think caster gun also does flammable debuff for 20% more..so overall be like a 22+20+20% fire damage buff and debuff. Guess theoretically around 60% fire damge buff which is insane
Grimgor and all black orcs were originally slaves to the Dawi Zharr. During his rebellion, he was actually impressed by the prowess of the Dawi Zharr Immortals, enough that he created a unit with the same name.

Pretty sure multiple factions have a .8% heal and it’s only on the constructs anyways. Still definitely good though!!

The only reason to give you new stuff earlier is to help CA to rebalance things out before releasing it. But CA don't utilize such advantages, so i don't understand why particularly you get that such earlier.
Is "You" in this case Turin, and "new stuff" the Chaos Dwarfs? If so, the answer is that he is given early access because CA believes it will help promote the product to potential customers.

Nah, the GS army was just bad, they didn't even have a caster. Trolls vs an army that pretty much has fire attacks across the board? Nah. Plus he brought a bunch of anti-infantry stuff. The GS player also should have sat back and let his lobbers wear down the immortals instead of charging forward.
Do chaos dwarves just get everything? No weaknesses/gaps in their roster? Before their first dlc? I mean I guess they don't have a life caster, but other than that...

That Grimgor loadout has got to be the weirdest thing I've seen in a while? Why bring Blood-Forged armour (which is almost pointless as AP is abundant and Grimgor has good base armour anyways), but not You're Next, which would have been perfect to help cut those characters down to size... well, *further down* to size?
You're Next is basically the main reason why anyone would bring Grimgor in the first place.
So, Main question is, are CD imba or not?
They're balanced. Their core units are very good, but their price matches their quality. Their chaff is very cheap, but you get what you pay for. I think they're going to struggle against other gunpowder factions due to their most valuable units' heavy reliance on armor for survivability. Their monsters and war machines in particular are going to be very vulnerable to canons.
Seems that things like trolls and skinwolves are just a non-starter against this faction
