The only way to properly enjoy music is to interact with it; music is made for the performer to share with the audience, not for the performer to show off. This man has made the song feel like a glass sculpture; delicate, precious, created with care and crafted out of so much pain and skill.

He barely hits the keys to get exactly the sound he wants. So difficult to do. He is really good at playing Bach, but he is just amazing at playing Schubert.
Shocking, yes, he will look as bad as Glenn Gould over the years, terrible for him. And he will have a lot of pain, even virtuoso have backs that will complain sooner or later. No reason for this. It doesn't look good, either.

It's a simple little piece but what a jewel! And with David Fray's interpretation, from playful, it becomes spiritual, meditative. I just can't stop listening to this. I have the feeling David Fray is an intrinsically spiritual person. He gets the meditative juice from Bach and here well, Schubert!

I agree, and after watching him play a couple of other times, I think he's sitting back in the chair as a way of keeping back from the instrument, as in those other performances he was quite hunched over.
@@OldSixDu Je les aime aussi beaucoup et les écoute souvent. Et quelques autres aussi, mais je ne me lasse jamais de Schubert et de son génie de la mélodie.
My favorite version, perfectly played. I wonder, what kind of emotions and thoughts that Schubert felt when he composed this. I am so lucky to find this in a cold winter day. I tasted my coffee then closed my eyes and listened this. I stripped away the concept of memory, time and place for 2 minutes and 11 seconds. Thank you David Fray.

David Fray is the genuine article. You could never teach this posture, or recommend using such a chair, but this pianist knows exactly what works for him. Glenn Gould was the same way, as other comments have suggested. The proof is in the music. This is marvelous Schubert, worth hearing again and again. Like GG, M. Fray has wonderful control.

i know what you are saying...i think thats the same case with everybody who has ever played piano, but like somobody said - that`s why i dont have problems with my back
Yes, look at Glenn Gould who also sat with a bad posture, and listen to how much pain he felt and he looked awful. Eventually it will affect playing, too, besides the pain.
He's so casual and so nonchalant in his appearance with that posture and the ruffled hair. I love it. He just always impresses me like he has very special talent...like a genius. I took up piano again as an adult and we'll see how it goes since life keeps interrupting. I'm hoping that when i finish learning this piece it will sound as good as his.
At first sight, this piece might seem easy. However it requires a great deal of practice and a soft touch to be able to play it as well as David can. But in piano playing, it is recommended to sit up straight. All in all, this is a great piece performed fantastically!
Aw thanks :) I'm currently playing some of Schubert's Impromptus and Moments musicaux, and I'm always amazed by Fray's sensitive and musical renditions...phenomenal!

I simply feel that some people have more than their fair share of blessings...looks and talent in one individual is just WRONG haha!
I’ve listened to this piece hundreds of times in the past year (not an exaggeration). I leave it on repeat especially when I struggle to sleep or feel overwhelmed with thoughts and emotions, it works like magic. Hands down the best rendition of this piece - I know it’s a matter of personal preference but imho, when I hear Horowitz and Seong Jin Cho play this, it just sounds like a fun piece to listen to. But David Fray transforms it into a meditative and soothing experience, “spiritual” even as someone has mentioned in another comment. I find the way David’s playing makes me feel quite similar to how Tiffany Poon playing Humoresque by Dvorak does.

A beautiful piece composed by a beautiful composer, played on a beautiful piano by a beautiful man.
Beautiful Schubert. Such wonderful music out of so much pain. What might have been had he lived another thirty years.
This guy's posture is wild!!!
True

A charming rendition that makes the piece seem more melancholy and pensive, rather than a children's march, which is how many others make it seem!
I remember the first time I heard him playing this piece, and then I was listening to other performers. Nobody was even close
Very agreeable assessment!! I'm with you.
