Finally a man's man who talks with sense and respects deals and contracts.
My father is a military man and has given more time to his work than what he give to us his family. He always tells us a few more years and I am all yours. He planned his life years in into the future. And then get blind sided the government who he gave so much to is going to double screw him over. It's unfair and I feel bad for my father.

Not true. The DOF is proposing that the CURRENT system be retained for all retirees just to reduce the opposition from them. No one forced anyone to become a AFP, PNP, NAMRIA, PCG, BFP MUP so no justification why they should not contribute to their retirement and for national government to shoulder 100% their retirement benefits.

What's sad with military people is they really belong to their work, and not to anyone, including their family. Like what I've said, when it's all said and done and finally my father comes home for good, he will be coming home to an empty nest because us kids will be moving on with our own life journey.
Military life is a sad lonely man's journey. Your destiny is to walk with your buddies when you're younger and then walk solo when you're older. Reason why i didn't want to follow my dad's footsteps.l

Thanks for the interesting insights as always! Again, as he mentioned, the martial law years were where our economy started underperforming and dictatorship did not work for us. People in the economic sector know of the mismanagement the country faced which resulted in an economic crisis in 1983-1984. Maraming inutang, maraming pinamigay na kumpanya sa mga kaibigan, tapos walang economic benefits na nakuha. Kaya napunta sa puntong di mabayaran ng gobyerno ang mga inutang. There was still mismanagement post-EDSA but because of reforms made in the BSP (formerly Central Bank) and financial sector since 1986, we have a better defense mechanism for ecojomic downturns.

It seems like it is now too late in the game to be competitive with our neighbors who are "poor and backward" in the 80s. That's what private corporations and international organizations do with their pension plans, they change the policies for the new hires for better sustainability. I agree, for fairness and better pension plan sustainability, the military should adjust the pension policies for those who are just about to enter the force so that those who are already serving will not feel that they are short-changed.

When comparing the performance of graduates from other countries, we should consider that some of our graduates, who possess talent and skills, prefer to work in other countries rather than in the Philippines. I believe this is one of the reasons why we are lagging behind. Our skilled and talented workers opt for opportunities abroad in search of a better life.

Stephen showed us previously his valued knowledge and experience in investment management when asked about the Maharlika Investment Fund and how bad an idea it was. This time he now shows us his expertise is not limited to his technical skills and shows his humanity and sense of fairness on this MUP issue. Makes you wonder why this sense of fairness was never part of the discussion. Makes you wonder how poorly our government officials think when proposing this change. Let’s hope they watch this and do better in doing this. At the end of the day, while money is the issue here, it is not the only issue. Stephen I am based in Australia and here we have what’s called superannuation which a fund contributed by your employer for your retirement. Traditionally, these where defined benefit funds where employers aside from making their contributions were required to cover any shortfalls in fund earnings to meet the expected pension. In the 1990s employers both public and private found them expensive to maintain started to close these funds to new employees and started offering instead accumulated contributions funds for their superannuation needs. This approach enabled employers to honour their commitments to provide for existing employees with defined benefit funds while at the same time reducing future contributions for new employees using accumulated contributions funds. Let’s hope a similar approach be considered in regards to the MUP issue. Thanks.
