  • Multiplex Pilatus PC-6 Turbo Porter - Unbox and "Assembly"
    I have to give a big shout out to Cam at Go Go Hobbies. Ever since I heard about this plane I couldn't wait to get my hands on one. It drove me crazy that they have been flying them all over Europe for the past several months and it seems we are the last little corner on earth to get some. I was especially keen to get one of these because I never met a Multiplex that I didn't like! Cam said he would hold one for me and good to his word; he called and gave me the first one off the truck. The shipment he received won't last long!
    It's no secret that I'm a sucker for Super Cubs and de Havilland Beavers and pretty much any plane that works the back country for a living. The Pilatus Porter is high on my list of favorites thanks to its STOL capabilities and utility.
    The Pilatus Porter is or was in the inventory of many military operations and is a favorite workhorse for sky dive operators. We see a lot of them on floats around here as they move people and freight up and down the coast and to the islands of British Columbia.
    I hope you enjoy the Unbox (if that's even humanly possible!) and as far as the assembly goes, it would be insulting to drag out the video by making you watch me put it together. This plane goes together as fast as you can get the pieces out of the box. Most of the time will be spent getting the radio dialed in.
    If you're from the Lower Mainland of BC, I urge you to drop by Go Go Hobbies in Coquitlam to meet Cam and to say hi for me.
    The Model:
    Product Description
    Designed to emulate the full-scale, single-engine, seven-seat STOL (Short Take-Off and Landing) Pilatus PC-6, the radio control version boasts Multiplex's signature Elapor foam construction and comes with 6 servos, high performance brushless motor and efficient speed control that are all preinstalled. Its realistic design elements include internal control linkages, simulated rivets and panel lines, aerials, glazed cockpit, a scale sprung undercarriage and attractive painted finish. With detachable wings and tailplane and large control surfaces, the Pilatus PC-6 is easy to assemble and transport and is amazingly agile in the air. This attractive model is capable of performing dazzling aerobatic maneuvers including vertical climbs, knife-edge passes, torque rolls and extremely short takeoff s and landings. Add the optional float set and extend your missions to snow and water! The Pilatus PC-6 also makes an awesome tow plane for extended enjoyment with your favorite mid-size gliders.

    A very nice video Bob, and a very nice plane too, the PC-6 is very cool modell...a friend of mine flys the same bird, and its a really good flyer...love how it looks in the air..only one odd thing about this one, the joints for the landing gear (at the fuselage) seem a bit weak, because his broke (both of them) after a tough but not really hard landing which was a bit weird, so maybe check those out or reinforce them somehow...happy flying bob, and thanks for sharing, cheers :)

    • @SubToTripleThreatRC
      @SubToTripleThreatRC  10 лет назад

      Thanks as always for the great comments my friend. I have heard about the weakness of the landing gear and fortunately, one of the fellows on rgcroups has come up with a mod to make the gear bullet proof using a bit of brass tubing and some carbon fiber tubing. It will also be helpful to reinforce the inside of the fuse to create a hardpoint where the struts attach. If my gear fails too, I will do the mod and upload a video on it. Here is the link, the mod can be found on Post 247: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2090079&page=17
      Cheers,
      Bob

    Great Vid Bob well done, I may be the only one but I think it is an ugly looking plane but I bet it will fly like a dream, looking forward to the maiden.

    • @SubToTripleThreatRC
      @SubToTripleThreatRC  10 лет назад

      Thanks for the view and the kind comments Mike.
      As for your opinion that the plane is ugly, this is probably where it is appropriate to toss out the old phrase: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." I grant you that she's not a runway model (no pun intended) but I appreciate planes that are designed to do a job with no compromises. It is all business and is strictly about function and capabilities. The customers that bought the full scale version only cared about what she could do. I happen to think she looks awesome and I love her rugged good looks. I hope the model flies half as good as the real one!
      Cheers, Bob

    Nice video. Those gears have a long stroke. you should be able to slam it down hard and not hurt anything..

    • @SubToTripleThreatRC
      @SubToTripleThreatRC  10 лет назад

      Thanks Pat. You should be absolutely right but I''m told the plastic gear is a weak link and they will snap on a bad landing. There is a mod that I'll be doing even though I never do bad landings lol! Thanks for watching buddy :-)

    Could you share some pictures how far back in the battery compartment you installed the battery pack? Thanks, great videos as allways

    • @SubToTripleThreatRC
      @SubToTripleThreatRC  9 лет назад

      Andres Delgado Hi Andres, thank you for the kind comments. Sorry but I can't take any pictures because I have sold the plane. But I can tell you that the battery was pushed back deep into the fuselage in order to get the correct CG. I attached the battery to a little sliding tray with velcro so that I could get it back far enough. I made the tray out of coroplast but anything thin and lightweight will do. I then used more velcro to secure the tray. It was an awkward arrangement but it worked and it was the only way I could get the battery back far enough and have it somewhat secured.
      Thanks for watching and happy flying! Cheers, Bob

    • @andresdelgado6778
      @andresdelgado6778 9 лет назад

      Thanks Bob. Yep, I am having trouble setting the CG. I will use your idea. Thanks a lot

    • @SubToTripleThreatRC
      @SubToTripleThreatRC  9 лет назад

      Andres Delgado I ended up making a hinge (with tape) at the front of the tray so I could maneuver the battery (and the tray) back easier. The front hinged part is where I used velcro to attach the tray to the floor of the fuse. Between you and me, I don't think this was a great design from Multiplex and I was a little disappointed that they didn't make it easier to put in a battery.

    hi: are you able to peel any of those stickers off?

    • @SubToTripleThreatRC
      @SubToTripleThreatRC  10 лет назад

      Well, they're just decals so they will come off for sure but they might take a bit of paint with them.
